Pages - Double page support

As I understand it this used to be a feature. Any way to get this running in the current version, or anyone know if this feature will be coming back? Alternatives that are cloud based? In case it's not clear I mean having two pages side by side in the layout (in a book like format).

Pages '09 v4 if you have it is two clicks to facing pages. The free LibreOffice is one click to achieve facing pages. MS Word in Office for Mac 2011 probably has it too.

Hmmm ... I see the font in my Font Book and in Suitcase Fusion, but it doesn't appear on the list of fonts in either Word for Mac or Text Edit, no matter what I tried. I attempted quitting all applications, cleaning the cache using Suitcase Fusion, and rebooting the computer, but no dice.
You think this is an installation or configuration problem my local Apple store could help fix ... not an underlying incompatibility? If so, I will take it in.

Hi Joe,
Insert your picture (Insert > Choose, or Edit > Paste, or just drag it into your document. While selected, open Inspector > Wrap and use these settings:
To make the pic faint use Inspector > Graphic > Opacity.
Move the pic to where you want it, then turn off Background objects are selectable.
Now you can type or Paste the poem text over it. I don't have a flower pic, but here is a frill-neck lizard that visited my yard:

FIRST OF ALL:
My HP Pavilion Laptop is about 3 years old.
My
sister's Dell Inspiron laptop is 3 years old.
My HP laptop is well-cared, as opposed to my sister's Inspiron Dell laptop, which is always thrown in dust without caring at all. Also, its battery is always inserted even when it is fully charged while the laptop is plugged in to the main power supply.
However, my laptop is either used on only battery, or on plugin. Also, it is kept from the dust. But, I really found that the battery of the Dell laptop still lasts about three and half hours, and there is no problem cooling fan is not properly properly.
I only remember one thing differently done on my laptop battery which is I charged it fully, then I stored it without using it for about four months, then when I reused it, I found it got worse over time. I.e. first time of using it after storing,I found
it empty, then I charged it again fully, however, then it lasted about 2 hours, then 1 and half hours, next an hour, now it is only lasting about 20 minutes without performance. If there is high performance, then
the computer shuts down suddenly.
My problem is follows:::
First: Whenever I inserted any Containing Data OR Data CD/DVD-RLightScribe discs, I found that HP optical driver was
unable to read them. When clicking on the optical disc drive 'double-click' while disc was inserted, then I found that disc opened as this way(NOTE: With a CD/DVD player is grayed out)
I was told 'I suspect the culprit might be hardware and lightscribe dive might be

I tried running the below command line to fix potential disk issue 'Chkdsk/r /f'
I cleaned the drive, discs, and so on.
I have uninstalled the all third-party data recording software.
I have uninstalled the Cyber DVD suite, lightscribe system software
which came pre-installed with my HP pavilion Notebook.
I have recovered my system from the HP Factory Recovery discs.
I have tried opening all those LightScibe discs not opening on my HP optical drive, on a Dell optical drive, and all of them were opened well, although Dell optical drive did not have a lightscribe feature at all., nor third party disc recording software.
However, the problem is still with opening the discs LIGHT-SCRIBE.
Thus, my questions are:
How to determine if the drive is corrupted and needs to be replaced with another one.
I think there something needed to be done on the BIOS Of my HP laptop[[[A similar problems happened on my Desktop computer's optical drive which is as follows (ALL discs are opened as empty by Optical Drive of My Desktop Computer) ---while
my optical drive of my desktop was connected to the
primary slave IDE, and the HDD was connected to the primary master IDE, the optical drive and hard disk are functioning well. However, I remember that while burning an image with Nero essential V: 5, something went wrong, and
then the Optical Drive of My Desktop Computer (HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22NP20) became NOTrecognised/Installed on
BIOS, although it was still shown on the device manager as a recognised device. Also, it was listed on my computer, however, when entering a disc(blank or with data) into the drive, I found it was not recognised, and it opened empty(no files
at it), although it contains data. Thus, I decided to boot to BIOS, and clicked on 'Autodetection for IDE', then I found that only HDD was still shown as installed on BIOS. However, the optical drive was not. Th I tried clicking on it on BIOS and then
clicking on 'enter' to try to let the device be re-recognized. However, that
made no difference. I had to take part my computer ,and then reconnected the optical drive onto thesecondary slave IDE , and let HDD connected to the same
primary master IDE. Then, I found that the problem solved and all discs were read normally. Aslo, optical drive became installed on BIOS.
What is meant with with double Layer Support.

Did you try unsinatalling LightScribe application then checking the status ?

Can anyone help me? I own a macbook with SuperDrive with double-layer support. I want to try to burn a dvd with the dual layer, how does this work? Which applications do i need? I have been searching for info on this subject but havent succeeded so far..

Any standard burning application such as Toast (or OS Xs built in burning) will burn a dual layer disk. You don't need to do anything special... it will just see the disk with double the capacity. What you do need to do is get dual layer DVDs. They're not all that easy to find at many retail stores, but they're pretty easy to find online.

If the system is Unicode no specific settings are necessary, you can enter the language code in the material text of any language and enter the text. If all people have the right fonts installed it will be displayed without problems.

IDVD 5 Pioneer DVR 109 and OS 10.4.3: Double layer support ?

My Pioneer DVR 109 (non Apple firmware) hasn´t been recognized by iDVD as a double layer drive. I heard rumors that from 10.4.3 on many non Apple drives will be supported by the system and indeed when clicking the profiler it now says APPLE SUPPORTED instead of VENDOR SUPPORTED. Unfortunately, when opening iDVD there is still only the 4 GByte option available. Any thoughts or ideas what this means?

If you happened to buy your 109 from MCE Technologies, or some other vendor that provided an installer to provide iDVD native double layer support, use the uninstaller supplied by the vendor (or call their tech support department).
If I understand it properly the file that was modified under these schemes was System/library/frameworks/DiskRecording.frameworks/Version/A/Frameworks /DiscRecordingEngine.framework/Version/A/Resources/
VendorSupport.drprofile. The original should have been renam ed,saved and replaced with one from the vendor.
Now you will need to restore the original.

Multi 8x DVD R/RW double layer support?

I'm a new computer owner with an inherited Presario CQ50-115NR. Please tell me if the Optiarc DVD RW AD-7580 S with FH-02 revision (or, as it was described in the ad, Super Multi 8x DVD R/RW with Double Layer Support) can play and record CDs, too? Thank you.

Your notebook does have a lightscribe supported DVD drive (LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD±R/RW with Double Layer Support). You can validate that from specs on the website over here
There is another way to check that. Slimline drives may not have enough space for a LightScribe logo on the drive tray cover, but a LightScribe logo sticker should be affixed to all LightScribe-enabled notebooks. To make sure, the presence of the disc encoder sensor can verify that a drive is LightScribe-enabled. Looking straight down on the spindle after the drive tray is opened, then look for presence of a LightScribe disc encoder sensor as an indicator of LightScribe capability.
Run the fixit from microsoft to fix dvd drive problems you are facing on the notebook.

Pages support for retina display

Any idea when Pages will be updated to support the retinal display? It looks terrible and is almost unusable compared to Pages on a regular display.

I fully understand about the price. This notebook is to last me the next three years so I fully optioned it up to the max. I know bit of an overkill for someone who only uses pages and writes fiction so I don't even use any pictures or strange layouts... I wanted something though that has a very clear display. The only fonts I use are Andale Mono and Courier so I'm hoping they look pretty good until a Pages Retnia update hits. I can always plug it into my Thunderbolt display till then anyway. I still have about about a month to wait before my MBPr even ships so hopefully all the issues will be resolved by then.

Wifi is on but will not connect once page is selected. The web page support pages work.

Wifi doesn't work on secondary searches. I pull up the page but the next link times out. However if I click on a video or pictures on the same page they will appear

Does the new Pages support right to left?

I know the old iWork doesn't support right-to-left languages, but what about the new version?

Well,
I played with all three apps for a while, trying to test it in several RTL support "tests", and my conclusion is that basically, Pages really supports RTL, and you can really control the text writing direction.
On the other hand, there are a couple of weird issues with Numbers and Keynote...
As you said, there is no button for "reverse the direction of text" like there is in Pages, which basically reduces the amount of control you have on the writing direction.
Although this button doesn't exist, it seems that the apps really handle the RTL better, and when you write something, everything "behaves" as you should expect, including puncuation.
While doing so, a major problem in these apps for RTL was the compatibilty to Microsoft Office and the PC environment, and it seems that the new versions still have those comptibilty issues.
in Numbers, you can save the files in xlsx and in xls which support both the new and previous versions of Excel.
In Keynote, you can save your file only in ppt format which implies for less support on the newer versions of Powerpoint.
I don't know if this has to do with anything, but it seems that saving the Numbers file in xlsx made the file really compatible and the Hebrew handling was perfect, but in the Keynote ppt version, opening the file in Powerpoint just ruined the Hebrew support and everything came out reversed...
Hopefully these issues are known to Apple, and they would improve the support for RTL further...
I'm sure that a lot of people don't buy macs because they don't have real productivity apps,
and i'm not really sure these versions solve this problem.

Is "touch to go to next page" supported?

In the desktop version of Reader in full-screen mode a touch/click will advance through a multi-page document.
This feature dosn't appear to be supported in Reader for Android.
Is there a way to emulate this in the currently release of Reader for Android?

I am having the same, or similar, problem, and have a similar question. I have an andriod based tablet computer, and am trying to use an adobe reader app to use the touch and link function that I've utilized on a large book of music scans I created and modified in Adobe Professional. While on the PC or notebook, the links work wonderfully, but the same file/program will absolutely not work on the andriod based tablet. I just wonder if I'm doing something wrong...?

Does Pages support glossary items?

I'm recalling a feature from other word processors that I could use in Pages. In older versions of Word (for Mac), it used to be called glossary, I think. The idea of having a cache of user-defined text items one could call up with a simple user-defined keystroke. E.g., in writing a script, being able to put in an oft-repeated character name with a keystroke or two to save time.
Any comparable feature in Pages (iWork 09)?

If you had set up #n (or whatever) to be substituted by your name and address, why would you want it do something else? And how would you tell it what that soemthing else was without having another shortcut for it?

Objects, including images and text boxes can be inserted into headers and footers only as inline objects.
Text boxes can be placed in front of images only is the text box is a floating object.
Playing with this a bit tonight, I've found two ways of placing a text box into a header and having the text overlap the image.
One is to place the text box in front of (or partly in front of) the image, then group the two objects.
Copy the grouped objects, then Paste into the header. In the image below, the grouped object has been centered in the header:
The other is to set up the text box and the text it is to contain, then Copy it.
Paste the text box into the Header.
Paste the image into the body of the document, then change it to a floating object, set Wrap to 'none', resize it if necessary, and place it in position covering part or all of the text.
With the image selected, go Arrange > Send objects to background. In this case, the text box will be in the header, but the image will be behind the header (not in it), and will not carry to succeeding pages:

Is Pages support higher dpi?

I've been working on Pages for months to make a yearbook and i just find out that output of the pdf file is only 72 dpi. The publisher suggests a higher one (e.g.,300dpi). It really bother me that i can't find a single option to change the dpi. i'm now using the finest quality of pdf output but it's still 72dpi. Although it seems fine on the screen, but it can't be as good as for publishing. This terrible saving function is really driving me CRAZY.
PS, i wonder if is possible to take screenshots for higher dpi?

You are facing a behavior described here many times.
Pages is able to pass 300 dpi pictures. Alas, the filters used by default in the export to PDF process reduce them to 70 dips.
