Pages File Won't Print

I created a flier that won't print as a pages or PDF file. I redid it with a new template, and then it printed. Problem is, I really like the old one and want to use that one instead. Help?!
Thanks

Man am I glad I found this reply... I was was cursing and ready to throw my powerbook into the road. Well, not quite that bad but I was really getting ******. What is the deal with this? Gloss paper, plain paper... who cares. Why does it matter for just a simple page print?

  • Using Adobe 8.1.2 some PDF files won't print

Since we've upgraded to the latest version of Reader, 8.1.2, some of the files won't print. For example, this morning I got two PDF files in the same email, they both opened in Reader, but only one of them prints--sending to a Canon ImageRunner 5570 printer/copier/fax machine. I'm not getting any error messages on my computer, it just doesn't print?
If I save a copy of the unprintable PDF to my desktop, then open in Acrobat 6.0 Standard (older version I know), it prints fine to the same printer.
Does anyone know what's going on here? Best, David.

We've been having the same problems printing to a Canon ImageRunner 4570, 8.1.2 won't print but 6 will. We can print to our other HP printer fine from 8.1.2, so it seems to be specific to the Canon. Tried printing from a shallow folder structure, but that hasn't seemed to have helped. Anyone heard if this is unique to the Canon printers? Thanks - Mike

  • Pages file won't open

One of my pages files won't open. It has been fine, but all of a sudden a message comes up saying the file cannot be opened. There is no information as to whether it has been corrupted or not. When I try to open it in the mac-Microsoft office program it says the file is too large.
Either it is just too large at 669MB and I need to reduce the size? or perhaps it is corrupted. I can open a preview version from its folder, by going to file and 'Quick Look "file name." But I can't copy any of it from there to paste into a new file...
Could someone tell me how to reduce the file size? Or increase the memory of the Pages application? Or some other way of opening it.
And no, I haven't backed it up like a fool.
    Thanks guys

    Yvan,
Thanks for the tip on Activity Monitor, I did not know about that! I have a similar problem, and I hope you can help me. I have a MacBook with 2GB mem and early Intel Chip (see SN provided).
I am writing a book with MANY pictures. They are all .JPGs and are fairly big. I have to keep the book in a single file if I want the Table of Contents (TOC) to work (I think... TOC is quirky). The file is 165.4 MB on disk and loads in Activity Monitor as 173.5 MB. With Preview Open and Safari Open, the system memory report says Free 161MB, Wired 296 MB, Active 1.06GB, Inactive 497.4 MB, Used 1.84 GB, Swap used, 41.8 MB. Pages loads the book slowly and functions okay with major hesitations from time to time; but it does take a VERY long time to save and will freeze with a wheel of death from time to time.
The obvious answer is to divide the book; but that would defeat the TOC advantage I'm enjoying.
    Advice?

  • Indesign-generated .pdf files won't print

I realize this question is vague to the point of being unanswerable, but here I go anyway.
Our department's publication person sent me a number of chapters of our book in progress so that I could print an uncorrected proof to show to our funding source. She emailed me .pdf files generated by InDesign CS2, probably, although it might have been CS3.
She also emailed me the indesign file for the frontmatter because I had some things to add, so the .pdf for that I generated myself.
I took everything to a local printer we regularly use. To print this job he was using a large commercial Canon setup I think. None of the .pdfs would print on it. He ended up having to print them all as images for the purposes of creating a proof for me.
Now, I printed all of them myself on our networked postscript printer, both from a Mac and a Windows machine, no problem.
Since the files had been emailed to me, and then to him, we thought maybe they got corrupted, so I brought them over on a disk, but that didn't help, not even the one file whose .pdf I generated myself would print.
So is this an issue that has come up--indesign-generated .pdf files being unprintable on a commercial printer but printable on a postscript machine.

    Dov and Al,
Yes, I'm sorry, I do realize that this isn't enough to diagnose a problem. I was hoping that this might be something that has come up before and someone would recognize.
As far as I could tell, he was opening up the print jobs in Acrobat and sending them to his printer, which had its own job monitor. When he consulted that monitor he just said, no, it won't print.
He's a smart guy and I've done a number of jobs with him that were generated in indesign, so I'm really at a loss to explain what has gone wrong with this one.

  • Pages & TextEdit won't print on HP D4300

Just bought the iWork 09 CD 'cause TextEdit was unreliable (file savings problems galore). Trying to print text saved under .pages or .doc (=TextEdit), my HP Deskjet gets started as usual, then always quits with these messages: "Impression of page one 14% effected" (loosely translated from the French), then "Imprimante ready" (still in French) above "/Library/Printers/hp/cups/Deskjet.driver/Contents/MacOS/Deskjet failed". Other details: screenshots from Aperçu (Preview), texts saved under .html (Safari) and .pdf (Adobe Reader) do get printed, and then I had no problems with Pages/TextEdit when using my other printer, a Canon Pixma ip2600.
So I suppose it's purely an issue between the D4300 driver and either iWork 09 and/or OS 10.5.8 which I downloaded yesterday too. Shall I try updating the driver first or look for a Permissions problem?

Unreliable is just what it says: no matter what I do, saving with CTRL-S before leaving the Mac unattended, relying on the automatic saving feature or saying Yes to "Save Changes?" when closing the file, I can never be sure changes are saved. Usually it's what's just been written after the last saving move that 's missing, sometimes it's the whole work session, and, at other times, most damning, little bits and pieces here and there, which go unnoticed at first glance. I've found a way around it:
1: Copy file contents, 2: Save and Close file as usual, 3: (Optional) Reopen file and check if all changes were saved 4: Anyway, open a new .rtf or .doc file and Paste the contents of the old one onto it. 5: The text is intact all right, so just save that file as .html document. 6: The next time you work on that job, you'll first have to Copy/Paste the text from the .html file to a fresh TextEdit file.
The preemptive Copy/Paste move proved crucial in the case of changes involving the appending of large chunks of text, so as to deliver, say, a 900-page book as a .doc file TextEdit flatly refused to reopen. (This was obvious as soon as the file icon turned blank on the Finder.) So I had to split the book into two .doc files.
Oddly, now, when you save a Page file as .doc file, this is done by TextEdit, not Pages, and I haven't tested yet the file-length limits of such files – or straight Pages files either. And then I still have to use TextEdit to open old AppleWorks files saved on my external HD when I was using my iBook, which ran on Mac OS 9.2. (For short files, I add a .txt or .doc ending, then do the above routine, knocking off some stray artefact-like characters & spaces in the process; for whole books, I use a USB key and transfer them back to the ageing iBook, where I open the file under AppleWorks and save it as .rtf file – which I should have done in the first place of course, but then it was not at all clear that Appleworks files were dead in a Mac OS X environment. If you ask: yes, my TextEdit and/or my iMac behave in a strange way, but I already have a CleanInstall behind me (worse TextEdit and Permissions problem) in the 90-day free telephone assistance period about 9 months ago. My local Apple salesman suggests I buy both the SnowLeopard update and the AppleCare pack. But I'll try that other forum you mention when I have the time. The fact that my OS and applications are French-localized doesn't make things easier with English-speaking forums or German-speaking service hotlines, Apple Centers and Internet providers (the iMac was bought and registered in Austria, and I had a French keyboard shipped from France).

  • File won't print, no image selected

I am running into a wierd problem with Acrobat x. I am running Acrobat X on a mac using mac os 10.6.8.. When I go to print I often get an error message stating "cannot print" and then another saying "no image selected". I have tried printing it as an image but nothing seems to help. Does anyone know what might be causing this? The file is only one page so on page range to be printed  I can only select all or current view. I have tried both. This is a pretty big issue since I am a digital printer and printing from Acrobat is constant requirement for the job.

First let me state that this is my solution on a Macintosh running 10.7.5 and Acrobat Pro X (with all the latest updates).
This problem started for me just this last weekend. I have been to every so-called solution that I could find via a Google search and NONE of these "solutions" even by the self-tagged "experts" work. PERIOD!
I decided to follow one suggestion to install Acrobat Pro 9. However, instead of uninstalling Acrobat Pro X first, I left it installed.
During the initial startup of Acrobat 9 after installation I was offered the option of installing an Extra feature called Adobe PDF Printer which allows me to "Create Adobe PDF files from any application by printing to Adobe PDF Printer". I opted in to that extra.
Once Acrobat Pro 9 had started I tested it using one of the PDF files that had failed to print with the dreaded "No pages selected......" error messages. THE FILE PRINTED AS EXPECTED!
I then decided I would uninstall Acrobat Pro X, but on a whim decided to try to print the same PDF file that had just printed using Acrobat Pro 9 one more time. IT PRINTED!
All I can figure out is that somehow selecting the option to have Acrobat Pro 9 install the option for allowing other applications to create a PDF repaired something within the Mac operating system. Just a guess.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • Filemaker Pro 9 file won't print p 4  pdf issue?  Good Filemaker Pro site?

Today is one of those print file from hades days. A 77 page file in Filemaker Pro 9 will print until it gets to page four. Then the printer times out and drops the file. What printer you ask? Well, the first ten tries were on a Laserwriter Pro 16/600 PS. It prints any other page just fine. So, I tried saving the file as a pdf. Preview will display the page but not print either. So I export the records on that page into a new database with just the records on page four. Still will not print page one of only one page. I add a new record by duplicating one record. That spills one record onto page two. Page two prints just fine. Could one of the records have a bitter code pill that corrupts the print file?
I copy the pdf to a thumb drive and take it to a different computer. The second 16/600 PS does not print the page. The LED flashes several times then goes solid without printing. Then the HP 4500 does not print it.
Can anyone recommend a good public forum for Filemaker issues? Sites I have found so far are commercial in nature. I have used Filemaker with great satisfaction since 1985 and Filemaker Plus. No major complaints until Filemaker Pro 9. Version 2 was great. Still use it once a week. Pro 3 was also problem free as was Pro 4. Any ideas would be appreciated. I am usually in the legacy products discussions but new software requires OS X.
    Thanx in advance.

  • Appleworks file won't print in Snow Leopard

I recently migrated apps and files from an older iMac to an iMac5,1 (late-2006 model). I use the same HP photosmart 7960 printer. When I send a file to print, one I have printed before with the old iMac, it won't print. I went onto HP's site to download a driver but during installation it says the setup assistant quit unexpectedly. I am trying to print files from Apple Works 6. I can print from Text Edit and from Mail,
    Can you help? Thanks.

Fred, I'm sorry, I mistyped about where I look for "get info" on a selected document. I do look under the File menu. It is grayed out as is "About Appleworks" and right clicking/ctrl click doesn't work.
For instance: I select (in Finder) an AW doc created in 2009. Right click doesn't work. File menu, About Appleworks grayed out. I double click to open it. Right clicking brings up usual editing menu. File menu visible but no "get info," About Appleworks says it's version AW 6.2.9. This doc doesn't preview and doesn't print. Then I change font and type size and save. This time it previews (content creator AppleWorks 6, creation date Jan. 10, 2011. AND it prints. I close it and select it again. Right click doesn't work, File menu and About Appleworks still grayed out and the "last opened" says 12/7/09.
glaucous, are you certain you are in Finder when you do this?
If you are in Finder, the Application menu (first to the right of the Apple menu) should be "Finder", and its first item should be "About Finder," not "About AppleWorks."
The only time you will see "About AppleWorks" in the Application menu is when you are 'in' AppleWorks.
It will be greyed when you have a dialogue box (for example, the Open dialogue, or the Save dialogue) open. Under this condition Hide AppleWorks and Hide Others will be the only active items in the Application menu. All items in the File menu will be greyed, as will be all items in Edit and Window menus. Help will show AppleWorks Help as an active item. And, as you note, right-clicking the file name or icon will have no effect (other than selecting the file), and double-clicking the file will open it (in the Open dialogue).

    Barry

  • Please help... Pages file won't load, PhD dissertation data!

(Unfortunately, I hit the "problem solved" button last question and for some reason it can't be undone!! I'm going insane trying to solve this problem... I don't know what to do, I can't download on iWork's site either, and I don't know where to find the raw data! Please Help!)
Dear Apple forum users and Apple,
I'm writing you about a fairly serious problem. I have an iPad that I use Pages on it to write notes for my research and my PhD dissertation when I study in a cafe. I found today that one document that I finished up last night is not opening, stating that it cannot be opened. I've had trouble with Pages before, especially with iCloud but this time it is much more serious.
Please, this is an extremely important document and I need to know what my options are. I have a PC at home and I am considering trying to break into the files of the iPad but there has to be another way.
(I'm in Japan, and no where near an Apple store, and don't feel I should even have to, so I need a way to access my file to salvage what I can...)

It works OK for me in Firefox.  Which browser(s) have you tested it on?
Flash form scripts may be conflicting with banner scripts.  I don't know.  Also, you have some validation errors on the page.  Start by fixing those.

  • Half-page, 2 per page layout won't print

Brother HL-4070CDW stopped printing Half-page or 2 per page layout after installing Snow Leopard 10.6.2 (with Brother driver update of 11/9/09). Anyone else have this problem, solution?

That did fix it, thanks so very, very much! I went to the " prints to a small portion of the page" and changed the paper size to A4 like it said and it worked immediately. This was the first time that I found this particular information listed on Firefox after looking at numerous questions/answers. Again, thanks so very much!!!!!!

  • InDesign CS2 file won't print after placing an image

Every once in a while, I can't get a file to print after I place an image. The file would print fine prior to adding the image. This doesn't happen with all images - and I have investigated (trying to save the images with different extensions), but haven't found the problem.

You have provided us exactly zero information that would allow us to help you with your problem.
You could provide a sample available for us to download and test. Or you could give more information if you could list some replicable information. But you've given us neither. Sorry.

  • Pages files won't open.

Hello. I am running Pages 09 (4.3) on my MacBook Air OS X 10.8.5 and cannot open any files. They are saved and I can open them in Preview but when I try to open in Pages they don't appear (even if Pages lists them in my files). Thanks in advance for help.

Where have you saved your files?
How many have you tried opening?
Have you tried creating new clean simple files and saving them somewhere you can easily find to check if they open?
