Pages Freeze

I have a MacBook running system 10.7.5 and Safari 6.1.6.
When I try to load any page that has Flash content it freezes and becomes unresponsive to scrolling, etc.
I have uninstalled Flash, the page loads OK but where the Flash content is supposed to be there is a box that says it can't play the content without the player.
Reinstall the player (17.xxx) and then get the same result. All of the system requirements are exceeded. This is happening on websites from Weather Underground to the New York Times so it's not the site.
All runs fine on my MinniMac desktop computer.
What gives???

Wasn't using Adblock or any other ad-blocking plug ins.
However, I "Reset Safari" and restarted the computer the problem cleaned up for the time being.
Thanks for responding.

  • Pages freezing up

    Hi,
I create documents in pages Layouts with many images. I have had on-going problems with the pages freezing up and not being able to manipulate images or move around the document. Ball starts spinning and application can not keep up with commands. I have been instructed to re-install my operating system twice now by apple (which allowed pages to work for a few weeks then back to same problem). I have been on the phone countless hours with techs taking me through various hopeful fixes. Still doesn't work. I have removed pages 09, and Apple sent me new Iworks 09 software. The problem is worse. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY CLUE AS TO FIXING THIS PROBLEM?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    Thanks for the welcome!
The images I use are normally jpegs that I either copy/paste or drag into pages. the images are normally 1-2 mb in size.
Large numbers take up resources. Depending on compression method, 1-2mb could be large files. The final size needs to be 300dpi and no more.
Sometimes smaller. I usually just mask the images and I do use Alpha to take backgrounds out.
Alpha masked images will especially tax the system. Better to prepare images "deep etched" ie background removed in Photoshop or the like.
I add text boxes to the pages with limited text. Apple has said that Pages should be able to handle docs that have higher mbs and that I should not be having this issue. But I agree it has to do with the images. I am now breaking up and doing single pages but even then it is freezing up. It is odd but I find that the problems get gradually worse. I can create a page with images and manipulate it just fine and then 2 weeks later open the same page and nothing responds. Very frustrating. I am now told by apple that I need more RAM but the fact that I sent a 7 mb doc to a MACPRO user with much more power and she had the exact same issue makes me question that.
Thoughts? I am brain dead from this.
Trim and simplify. 20 years of experience. The computer has only limited resources.

  • When i first open firefox homepage (opens with google) after 3 seconds page freezes and cannoct be closed. i have to open seconed homepage to shot pc down. this has only happened since i installed firfox 4. what do i do to fix this

when i first open firefox homepage (opens with google as set by firefox) after about 3 seconds the page freezes and cannot be closed or minimised. i have to open second homepage to shut pc down or continue to use pc. this has only happened since i installed firefox 4. what do i do to fix this

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • Pages Freezes On Scrolling

This on the Intel MacMini (2009)
When quickly scrolling through documents with more than a few pages, Pages simply freezes up. Scrolling halts and menu items become unresponsive. The only way to bring Pages back to life is to click on the desktop or another application's window and then click on the Pages window. This is extremely annoying.
However, this only seems to happen when another user is logged on via Fast User Switching.
This problem does not happen with Open Office, Neo Office or Text Edit when editing the very same documents.
Is Pages somehow not compatible with Fast User Switching?

I should add that when Pages freezes the system.log contains items like this:
Jul 8 08:21:33 Bleach /usr/sbin/spindump[1452]: process 716 is being monitored
Jul 8 08:21:57 Bleach /usr/sbin/spindump[1452]: process 716 is being no longer being monitored
Jul 8 08:22:49 Bleach /usr/sbin/spindump[1458]: process 716 is being monitored
Jul 8 08:33:04 Bleach /usr/sbin/spindump[1605]: process 716 is being monitored
Jul 8 08:34:12 Bleach /usr/sbin/spindump[1605]: process 716 is being no longer being monitored
Jul 8 08:34:53 Bleach /usr/sbin/spindump[1608]: process 716 is being monitored
Jul 8 08:35:17 Bleach /usr/sbin/spindump[1608]: process 716 is being no longer being monitored
    Process #716 is Pages.

My hotmail access disappeared from my iPad. When I go to settings and click 'mail, contacts, calendars' the page freezes. It doesn't allow me to the account setting. Anyone have suggestions?

Your Settings app is crashing. Sometimes, the only way to fix this is by restoring the iOS software but hopefully it will not come to that.
    1. Quit the app completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    2. Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    3. You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your app preferences and device settings again.

  • Google Docs page freezes in FF 4.0 and 3.16 versions and it doesn't show the collection or folder names on the left side of the page .

Google Docs page freezes and it shows the files in the main page. However, it doesn't show the collection or folder on the left side of the page. It shows "Loading" on top of the page and it stays with "Loading" display forever. Chrome doesn;t have any such problem. I would like to use FF for google docs if it works. This happened only after I changed to FF 4.0. Now, I went back to 3.16 and it shows the same behavior as 4.0 version. Any help will be appreciated.

I'm replying to my own question in hopes that it'll push my post to the top of any lists to garner some sort of response.
Any help is most appreciated. Thank you.

  • Iphone 4s wifi disconnects randomly and setting page freezes when trying to enter wifi networks

After the Ios 7.0.3 update, this started happening. I'm using wifi then suddenly it disconnects from it, and when I go to scan for wifi, the setting page freezes upon touching the wifi network and it crashes. and when It doesn't lfreeze, I can't see any wifi network although the router is within 5 feet from my location. after some time the wifi comes back again for 10 minutes and then it does the same thing.

Go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings, then try joining again and you should get the password prompt.

  • Pages freezes

Before I start, thanks to everybody here - this forum is very helpful. Have found many answers.
However, no I am stucked. I have found other topics talking about it but none helped. So that is the story:
Pages freezes the whole iMac Core Duo. Nothing works anymore - not even the keyboard combination of force quit. This is very frustrating and it happens a lot. Unfortunately can I not figure out when and why, seems to be totally random. There is no crash log or at least I can not find it using console
Hope somebody can help me out

Sounds like it might be the lookupd daemon bug:
The symptoms of this problem are as follows:
Applications (apparently all of them) then to launch, first bouncing in
the dock for up to a minute and then simply having a stationary, inactive
    icon in the dock
After that, the system becomes completely unresponsive; switching between
open applications works, but finder functions are unavailable (the dock
doesn't work, menus are inaccessible, force quit key command does not
    respond).
You can not log out, restart or shut down.
Eventually, you are left with a spinning cursor and must shut down the
    machine using the power button.
These symptoms indicate that a low-level component of Mac OS
X, lookupd, has hung. Since lookupd is used by many other parts of Mac OS
X, it effectively hangs Mac OS X itself.
    The Quick Fix
If you find yourself in this situation, the quick fix that has worked for me
has been to disconnect the ethernet cable from the system for about five to
ten seconds and then plug it back in. You may also have luck turning off the
hub, router or access point for five to ten seconds and then turning it back
on. This forces the system to kill and restart lookupd, thereby freeing up
Mac OS X, until the next time it hangs...
If you're accessing the net at all (which, if you're on broadband, your mac is doing most of the time), lookupd will eventually hang, freezing the OS.

  • Picture Import - "Pages" freezes

    Hey Dudes,
I'm a 18- years old student from Germany.
Yesterday i bought iWork 06 in order to layout the "Good-bye - Magazine" of my class (We'll have our A- levels next year).
I read the instructions,... ok.. let's say mostly.
I've been trying to create my own template for a few hours now.
After having the same problem a hundred times, I decided to ask you for help.
    My problem.
Each an every time i import a picture via drag 'n drop "Pages" freezes after a fey seconds. Sometimes I have the time to change the size but then: boom, it happens again. That's very annoying and i can't go on like this! You see, there's just one page open and the application freezes because of the first picture I'd like to import in my document. That's unbelievable!
My Computer is definetly not too old for Pages!
I'm working on a iBook G4, 1,2GHz with 768MB RAM. That should be enough for running pages!
Does anyone have a hint or something- I don't know what to do. I tried it about 10 times- every time Pages freezes and I have to force it to quit!
    Thank you for your help!
    Greeting from snowy Germany!

    Gerry- You are 'da man!
I was trying to describe the same thing in my post but you clarified it and added info I was not aware of.
Placeholders may be the answer to my frustration in my other post. I create music programs, the music changing all the time. With placeholders I could set all the parameters the way I want them and then just drag in the new clips. In addition, your idea for saving object preferences would also help this user. Since the post was rather long here is your answer to me copied out:

Word wrap is not a preference for the Pages program. It is, however, a preference for each template.
Design the template you use for your projects. Within this template, set how you want the inserted graphics to behave for both styles of placed graphics. Fixed to Page and Moves with Text. Yes, you can save two different preferences.
With each graphic selected separately use Format - Advanced - Define default Shape Style.
Do this for placed images as well using Format - Advanced - Define default Shape Style, making sure you set it up for Fixed to Page and Moves with Text.
These are defaults for how graphics will behave in different formats. Save your project and the way you want things to behave as a separate template and whenever you open that template things will behave the way you expect them to.
I can hazard a guess as to why this was done. For some templates you will want images, shapes and other elements to behave in different ways. You may expect them to behave differently for other templates. This gives you more control as a designerr of templates as to how the graphics will behave.

  • Page freeze

Having probs with page freeze when using my USB dongle for 3g. Contacted 3g and they say it is prob with my laptop. Using windows7 upgrade, had no probs when on vista, any help would be grateful

    Hi,
I have the same problem: win 7 on a Portégé M700 freezes while using the 3G connection, irrespective if the SIM card is installed in the internal slot or I use an external USB dongle.
It was working fine, then suddenly yesterday I noticed this behaviour. I recently installed the HDD protection driver (not installed before) e and few other drivers, like the Samsung universal printer driver, but I do not have evidences of a relationship with one of them, up to now.
I have XP installed in the same M700, which is working fine with the same hardware, so that I suspect a software issue.

  • Pages freezes upon opening

Whenever I open Pages and select a document to open, Pages freezes.
The same happens with Numbers and Keynote as well; I just opened them to check.
I'm still using Leopard, as this poor art college student doesn't have $30 to spare at the moment. Could that have something to do with it?
I did do a software update last week, and I can't remember if it included some iWork update that would only work with SL, in which case, I'll just wait until I can buy it.
If that's not the issue, could anyone point out what it really is?

The updates iWork 0901 and 0902, apply on 10.4.11, 10.5.8, 10.6 with no problem.
As the described oddity strikes with the three apps, I assume that it's not linked to a given document.
I assume too that it's not linked to an application's preferences file.
Maybe a problem with a shared cache file.
Try to apply the free maintenance tool named ONY which is compatible with your Leopard.

  • Since installing Maverick, Pages freezes when saving

Since I installed Maverick, I can no longer use pages because there is no way to save my documents. Every time I try to save one, Pages freezes. The little wheel goes round and round indefinitely. When I check Pages on the activity monitor, it says Pages is not responding. I have send data to Apple every time this happens but have gotten no response. So, how do I get Pages back to operating properly?
Also, I thought I read that Apple gave a free update to iWorks at the same time they introduced Maverick. I can't find it in the App Store. Where can I find it? Perhaps that will get Pages working again.

  • RE "Pages" - freezes several times a day, have to turn off/turn on entire ipad. is there a fix, or a patch?

"pages" freezes repeatedly during the day on my iPad. is tgere a patch, a fix?

Try quitting Pages then reset the iPad.
Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app.
Then reset your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
