Pages freezes my mac
new pages is continually causing my mac to freeze. any feedback please.
Thanks. After it restarts, does a dialog box resembling the following appear?
If it does, click the Report... button, copy the entire text of the report, and paste it in a reply.
If it does not, read the following:
Next time it freezes note the time in your Mac's menu bar or some other accurate timepiece. Then, force it to shut down as you have been doing.
Then, start the Mac the way you normally start it.
Then, find the Console app - it is in your Utilities folder and looks like this
You can find it by selecting Utilities from the Finder's Go menu.
Open Console.
If the log list column on the left is not already displayed, show the log list by selecting Show Log List from Console's View menu.
Locate system.log in the list and select it. Many date and time-stamped entries will appear, hundreds of them, and you must find the entries relevant to your Mac's problem.
To do that type the words bootlog in the Filter field at the upper right of the Console window:
That will cause all log entries to be hidden, except for the entries containing those words. The last entry in the list will correspond to the last time you started the Mac. It will have a time stamp in the form hh:mm:ss later than the time you noted in the Mac's menu bar prior to shutdown.
Make note of that exact time in hours, minutes, and seconds.
Next: Clear the filter field by clicking the x in the above screenshot. It should then look like this:
All previously displayed log entries will reappear.
Next: Find the log entry that corresponds exactly to the time you noted in hours, minutes, and seconds containing the words"BOOT_TIME". You may have to scroll up or down a considerable distance. When you find that line, select it and drag your cursor up and prior to the entry corresponding to the approximate time you noted before shutting down the Mac. This will result in a selection of perhaps 100 to 200 lines or so.
One or more of them, along with their time stamps, may reveal the reason for the problem you describe.
Copy and paste those log entries in a reply. If hundreds of the same repetitive messages appear, please edit them before posting. There should be no need for more than 100 or so total log entries.
Most of the entries will be cryptic but will contain information you might consider personal such as your Mac's name. If you do not want that information to appear, delete or obscure it when posting your reply. Leave enough information so that the entries can be deciphered.

Before I start, thanks to everybody here - this forum is very helpful. Have found many answers.
However, no I am stucked. I have found other topics talking about it but none helped. So that is the story:
Pages freezes the whole iMac Core Duo. Nothing works anymore - not even the keyboard combination of force quit. This is very frustrating and it happens a lot. Unfortunately can I not figure out when and why, seems to be totally random. There is no crash log or at least I can not find it using console
Hope somebody can help me out
JacquesSounds like it might be the lookupd daemon bug:
The symptoms of this problem are as follows:
Applications (apparently all of them) then to launch, first bouncing in
the dock for up to a minute and then simply having a stationary, inactive
icon in the dock
After that, the system becomes completely unresponsive; switching between
open applications works, but finder functions are unavailable (the dock
doesn't work, menus are inaccessible, force quit key command does not
respond).
You can not log out, restart or shut down.
Eventually, you are left with a spinning cursor and must shut down the
machine using the power button.
These symptoms indicate that a low-level component of Mac OS
X, lookupd, has hung. Since lookupd is used by many other parts of Mac OS
X, it effectively hangs Mac OS X itself.
The Quick Fix
If you find yourself in this situation, the quick fix that has worked for me
has been to disconnect the ethernet cable from the system for about five to
ten seconds and then plug it back in. You may also have luck turning off the
hub, router or access point for five to ten seconds and then turning it back
on. This forces the system to kill and restart lookupd, thereby freeing up
Mac OS X, until the next time it hangs...
If you're accessing the net at all (which, if you're on broadband, your mac is doing most of the time), lookupd will eventually hang, freezing the OS.
More info here: http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20050921061826456
There's a fixit, which polls lookupd and restarts it if hung, available here:

iMac G5 1.8 Ghz Mac OS X (10.4.5) -
I have a late 2008 unibody MacBook running at 2GHz with 4 GB of memory. OSX 10.9.5.
My problem is, every time I open iTunes 12.1.2, I get the spinning colorwheel before I can even click on anything. It freezes my mac to the point where no force quit commands work, and I have to manually reboot it. When restarting, I get a message that pops up "Your computer restarted because of a problem." I have found no solutions to this problem, and all other discussions I've found differ slightly from my issue. Help!!!These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the BOOT_TIME log message that corresponds to the last boot time when you had the problem. Now clear the search box to reveal all messages. Select the ones logged before the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
For example, if the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down for three minutes before you forced a restart, post the messages timestamped within three minutes before the boot time, not after. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract—not at the beginning.
If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Step 2
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". A shutdown stall report has a name that ends in ".shutdownstall". Select the most recent of each, if any. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. It's possible that none of these reports exists.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.
When you post the log extract or the crash report, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created. -
Since installing Maverick, Pages freezes when saving
Since I installed Maverick, I can no longer use pages because there is no way to save my documents. Every time I try to save one, Pages freezes. The little wheel goes round and round indefinitely. When I check Pages on the activity monitor, it says Pages is not responding. I have send data to Apple every time this happens but have gotten no response. So, how do I get Pages back to operating properly?
Also, I thought I read that Apple gave a free update to iWorks at the same time they introduced Maverick. I can't find it in the App Store. Where can I find it? Perhaps that will get Pages working again.Hi pstrelliott,
Welcome to the Support Communities!

Pages on iPad keeps freezing since recent update. Has also crashed several times.
I've been having the same trouble since iOS 7 and the latest version of Pages. I wish I had some kind of solution to offer, but I haven't found one. I wanted to chime in and let others know that it's not just a few people having the issue. Pages has become unusable on my iPad 2 and iPhone 4S (and my wife's iPad 2, also).
It used to be my go-to app for anything that required text with any kind of formatting. Now it's very slow and it's impossible to get any kind of rhythm or flow going when working in it. This is especially true when selecting text. I used to be able to select a word, then drag the selection over additional words/paragraphs, without a hitch. Now I have to select a word, then wait 3 or 4 seconds for the "copy, paste, etc." bar to appear, then I can drag the selection over additional words. It always takes me a few tries to remember this, because text selection in every other app is fast and responsive, which is the norm.
There are times when using Pages that it just becomes unresponsive and seems to freeze up for long durations. Closing the app (swiping it up after double-tap on the home button) and re-opening it doesn't help anything. Sometimes I can't even double-tap the home button while in pages. It completely takes over the whole iPad and my only option is to just wait it out, or do a hard reset (hold the home button and power button).
I haven't tried using Pages in airplane mode or with iCloud turned off. Having to do so would negate what I'm attempting to get out of my experience.
I'm forced to use Pages on my Mac Mini now, where it seems to behave just fine. The problem is I used to enjoy using Pages frequently on my iPhone 4S while on the road and enjoyed the freedom of using my iPad 2 and Pages around the house.
Pages used to be, in my opinion, a very usable, powerful word processing app. I loved that I could do amazing things in it right on my iPhone 4S. Totally bummed that this app has become basically dead weight on my iPhone and iPad!
I'm hoping that Apple is working on resolving these issues. It took 6 additional months after releasing iOS 7 to finally get it working better with iOS 7.1. Perhaps the same will soon be true with Pages? Crossing my fingers, but not holding my breath.
On a more positive note, there are some decent alternative word processing apps such as Polaris Office, Kingsoft Office and Google Drive. None of them compare to Pages (when Pages *used* to work well), but they're usable, responsive, and offer a much better user experience for now. -
For my Mac Pro, after I downloaded the new Mavericks OS, I downloaded the new pages. However, I still can't open iCloud pages from iPad. Says that I need a new version of Pages on my Mac.
Please help.It appears that you are launching the old version, probably using an icon in your Dock. That icon is an alias & is not updated. You will need to go to your Applications folder & find the new Pages 5 icon & double-click it. Once it is launched, you can right-click on the icon & choose Options > keep in Dock from the contextual menu.
-
When I start up Bridge CC I get a error message instructing me to purge cache in preferences which I do but it doesn't work and freezes my mac. I cannot curretnly use Bridge CC. PLease help as this is costing me time and money - thank you in advance....
Hold down the Option key as you launch Bridge, keep it down until you see a dialog box, then click all three options in the re-set box that comes up.
If you don't see that re-set box, you're doing it wrong, i.e., you're not holding the Option key down fast enough. -
Pages App on Mac won't open documents created on iPad
My pages app on my mac wouldn't open documents created on my iPad, it said that I needed to down load the newest version which I belive I had. So I put it in the trash hoping I could re install but now I can't open it at all :-(
You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

When I try to open up a page file, I am told to download a newer version, but when I go to Apps it tells me I am already instaled. So now I can not open any page files. Please HELP!
You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5/5.01 can not open Pages 5.1 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.1 sometimes can not open its own files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has not only managed to confuse all its users, but also itself.
Note: Apple has removed over 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

How do I print a configuration page from a Mac with Snowleopard?
How do I print a configuration page from a Mac with Snowleopard? Printer is workinhg fine, but I just put in a new cartridge and I'd like to know how many pages I'm printing.
DaveHi there Dave, aka @dewanio , welcome back
I saw that you are looking to print off a configuration page.
The printer itself will print a test page however, the model depends on how it will print. Let me know which printer you have and I will get back to you!
Thanks!

Hi,
I create documents in pages Layouts with many images. I have had on-going problems with the pages freezing up and not being able to manipulate images or move around the document. Ball starts spinning and application can not keep up with commands. I have been instructed to re-install my operating system twice now by apple (which allowed pages to work for a few weeks then back to same problem). I have been on the phone countless hours with techs taking me through various hopeful fixes. Still doesn't work. I have removed pages 09, and Apple sent me new Iworks 09 software. The problem is worse. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY CLUE AS TO FIXING THIS PROBLEM?
Thanks!gabmhart wrote:
Hi,
Thanks for the welcome!
The images I use are normally jpegs that I either copy/paste or drag into pages. the images are normally 1-2 mb in size.
Large numbers take up resources. Depending on compression method, 1-2mb could be large files. The final size needs to be 300dpi and no more.
Sometimes smaller. I usually just mask the images and I do use Alpha to take backgrounds out.
Alpha masked images will especially tax the system. Better to prepare images "deep etched" ie background removed in Photoshop or the like.
I add text boxes to the pages with limited text. Apple has said that Pages should be able to handle docs that have higher mbs and that I should not be having this issue. But I agree it has to do with the images. I am now breaking up and doing single pages but even then it is freezing up. It is odd but I find that the problems get gradually worse. I can create a page with images and manipulate it just fine and then 2 weeks later open the same page and nothing responds. Very frustrating. I am now told by apple that I need more RAM but the fact that I sent a 7 mb doc to a MACPRO user with much more power and she had the exact same issue makes me question that.
Thoughts? I am brain dead from this.

How do you transfer Pages files from Mac to ipad?
How do you transfer Pages documents from Mac to Ipad?
If you have iOS 5 on the iPad and enabled iCloud in Pages, you can go on your Mac and go to http://icloud.com, then click iWork, then click the gear icon and upload the document. It should appear on your iPad.
If you have an older OS on the iPad, you will need to plug in to the Mac and launch iTunes. Click on the iPad under DEVICES. Then click on the Apps tab up top. Scroll down until you see a File Sharing section. Click on Pages, then click on the "Add" button. -
Is there any way to get the prior version of Pages (4x) for MAC? So many critical features are missing now I cannot use Pages any longer unless I can get the old version?
MikeWith Mavericks the answer is maybe. It really depends on whether they ship a disc with Pages 4.0 or Pages 4.3. It is hard to figure out which one is the one that you will actually receive. If you have a virtual machine and purchased these from the Mac App store then if you run Mountain Lion you should be able to download them again on that system. This is the method I used to re-install.
I'm lucky in that I have the retail version of iWork 09. I re-installed it using the following method.
1. Reinstall from DVD. This installed a version that is too out of date to run on Mavericks so I had to do step 2.
2. Ran a virtual machine with Mountain Lion, installed iWork 09, ran software update and copied the latest versions over to my main machine. This works and now I have iWork 09 back on my machine. Hopefully Apple can fix this latest iWork and bring it back to feature parity with iWork 09. -

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

To delete the pics from your MBP, just drag to Trash and empty Trash.
