Pages hangs when trying to print

Since a few days it isn't possible to print any new document with pages (OS 10.4.11). Opening and printing older documents still works. And there also no problems with printing using other applications. Very frustrating!
Any hints?

Being an old Quark XPress hand I can only suggest the techniques I used on bad Quark documents.
Look for suspects. Change something. Clean up. Transfer. Simplify.
What is different in the bad document? Remove and/or reimport graphics one by one. See if that changes anything.
Push some text up or down over page breaks. Sometimes the problem lies in the "Edges" of the postscript ie the page limits or some buried and invisible formatting.
Do a search and replace on multiple spaces etc in the text, clean up what you can by copying the text from the document and running it through TextSoap to get rid of stray formatting or invisible characters.
Create a brand new document with the same layout, copy the content out of the damaged file and paste it into the new file.
Last but not least. Try and simplify the document, reduce any special effects, fancy outlines, drop shadows etc.
If everything new fails to print, then there is a problem with Pages itself. Trash iWork along with all its preferences and reinstall from scratch along with upgrades.
Without seeing the job that's all I can offer.

I am using Adobe Reader XI and Windows 7. When I try to print a pdf I get "No Pages Selected". I have updated everything, tried to print as an image and I do not have the option to "enable protected mode". I was printing fine until a reader update. I need to print PDFs. How can I do this.

First thing to try: disable Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
Someone solved the same problem this way. If that doesn't resolve it, tell us your operating system and Reader version.

Pages Crashes when trying to print to network printer

Everytime I try to print from my Intel iMac to a network printer (HP Deskjet 5550) hooked up to a dual 1.8 G5 Power mac, the program crashes. Does anybody know what to do in this situation?

What format of graphics are you using? Some have complained that tiffs are causing problems in their docs.
Hold down the option key and drag the file to create a copy. Remove all graphics and see if the doc prints. If it does then one of your graphics may be corrupt. If they are try opening the graphics with Preview and save them as jpegs. Put them back in the doc and then see if the file prints.

I have a problem when trying to print contents fro either Email's or from web pages, the problem started after i opened Google earth and it down loaded Google Chrome i do not like Google chrome so i removed it from my pc via add and remove programmes since then when i try to print an email i get what looks like the computer settings for writing the email and not the text same for web pages, as anyone come across this problem before i can print any word or spreadsheet documents but problem is with email's and web pages.

Something changed on your system, possibly when Google Chrome installed. It could be many things, but what it boils down to, is it needs to go back to the way it was. Either by removing whatever else might still be left from the install, or maybe by reinstalling the printer itself.

Firefox crashes when trying to print a certain page

I process orders placed on our web site. As soon as I updated to v6.0 and then V6.0.1 at a particular page when I need to print out invoices (and only on this page - I print two other pages as well during the processing) firefox crashes when trying to print all, print one page or print preview. It is not every single time but most times. I never had this problem in any earlier version.
It happened in safe mode as well.
If it wasn't for the group tabs which I love in v6 I would go back to v5.0 as it is quite inconvenient and costs me extra time to have this happen. I have to display each of the invoices individiually and print them which never causes a crash.

The crash IDs that you posted are a crash with the Flash plugin.

FireFox keep saying "unexpected error" when trying to print web pages. The print preview works OK, but when you try to print that "unexpected error" jumps up.
Please email me on what to do to get FireFox to work.

Please also try this setting: Windows start menu or Control Panel > '''Devices and Printers''', right-click the printer > '''Printer properties''' > '''Advanced''', and select '''Start printing after the last page is spooled'''. In this case you can also close Firefox after spooling is over (usually much faster than direct printing), and printing will continue.
Also as a general case, if you have security software (antivirus, firewall etc.) installed, you can try deleting all existing instances of Firefox and its related processes/files in all the different configuration modules/areas of the security software like process monitoring, sub/spawned process control, virtualization, HIPS etc., in addition to the security software's main configuration panel. Instead create new fully allowed/trusted rules for Firefox + its related processes in all the different modules/panels - a genuine/original Firefox installer as well as all the installed EXEs (Application) and DLLs (Application extension) are digitally signed by Mozilla Corporation (right-click > Properties > Digital Signatures). Even otherwise, some security software may also ask again when Firefox and/or its sub processes are started, and you may be able to allow/trust at that time. When trying to print from my computer, it says it cannot connect or find the printer. I tried downloading the most updated software from HP website but it doesn't appear to be helping.

Try resetting the printing system.

If you have the printers IP address open Terminal (applications/Utilities) and at the prompt type: ping {printerIP}. You will get a reply or failure.

I keep getting an error message when trying to print.

When trying to print a pop up box keeps telling me I need to purchase Pages. I already have purchased it. I did have the trial version does it need to be deleted? The 30 day trial has been long gone and I purchased Pages months ago. Never had a problem until tonight. I do notice when I go into launchpad there are 2 pages icons??? Any help??? Thanks!

Acrobat 9 very slow when trying to print

Need to know if anybody has a solution to my printing problem. We just bought and installed Acrobat 9. When trying to print a file in the program, it takes a very long time for the file to be spooled to the printer. Of course a multi page document is even worse. We are printing to a printer that is networked, it's a Canon high speed printer with a PCL driver. We have tried a PostScript driver as well. I have tried changing the resolution to 300dpi and not print as an image. We can transfer the file to a PC with just a reader, and it spools much faster to the same printer.
Are we missing a setting somewhere? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

You have a file.pdf open in Acrobat 9.0
You go to File > Print and choose your networked Canon Printer.
That's the one that spools slow???
Then you say... you take the very same file.pdf and open it in Reader (to a different PC) go to File > Print to the very same networked Canon printer and it spools fast?
How about gettiing the free Adobe Reader on the PC that spools slow, open your file.pdf in Reader and print that to the networked printer to compare spooling speeds? That would be a true comparison to see if it's just Acrobat or the PC.

Hi, Chris. Thanks for giving this query a look. I have the same problem. All documents print on my HP Deskjet 932C except Photoshop files since I updated to Mavericks.
My CS5 version is 9.0 x64. Mavericks is 10.9.4.
I checked the HP drivers and HP doesn't have one for OS X newer than 10.4.
I tried printing out the detailed report (very long!) and this page rejected the reply as spam. Can we provide the text as an attachment?

Applications crashes when trying to print

A number of applications such as iwork,PDF, etc. crashes when trying to print, I can print test pages and use other printer utilities functions on my HP 970 CXI.
Creating new printer queue had no effect can any one suggest a solution. Thanks

This may sound elementary but I turn off all print spoolers - print monitoring, background printing, etc. - as the very first test. This eliminates a whole class of issues, including some memory related questions.
The version of the operating system can also be a factor. If you turn off the printer, delete laserwriter 8 preferences, turn on the printer, select the printer in chooser and try printing again you may solve some problems.
You posted your question in the old folks home. Are you using an old computer? An iBook G4 processor is as new as a Mac Mini so I am assuming that this is a question that predates OS X. If this is an OS X printing problem, we need to shift mental gears or you may want to post your query again in a more modern forum. Post back will more details and we will try and help out.

As i said to leonie i have solved it by deleting all the previously saved photos and then it worked.
After which i formatted the card as per your suggestion and everything seems okay.
It was all overdue. Leaving that many photos on one card was stupid.

LaserJet 1320tn Pausing When Trying To Print - Won't Print When Resumed

Hello Everyone,
Until about a week ago users in my office who print to a networked LaserJet 1320tn were able to print to it. Now, when trying to print a document, the printer pauses itself, and continues to pause itself when I try to resume printing. Can you show us the new error_log?
I'm starting to think you may need to reinstall OS X using the Archive and Install option.

how much free space on your boot drive?
