Pages icons turning generic with Leopard

My Pages documents previously showed an inkwell icon. Now they show some faint lettering and the word pages at the bottom. If I create a new document in Pages, the proper icon will appear for a split second, then change to the generic type.

Any way to have the "Show Icon Preview" checkbox STAY unselected? Every time I log back in, that box shows up as checked again. Is this just a 10.5.0 release bug, or am I missing something?

  • Weird parts of screen and icons turning black with white bands?

So I've been getting these weird flashes on my screen, mostly when using the internet, but also sometimes icons appear similar to the flashes as pictured below... it should be the calculator app icon but instead it's black with white streaks.
Or here's the link for a better view:
    http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/4ldthLn49zAmGLhSypdgog?feat=directlink
I see it mostly when loading a page on the internet... for a split second the whole frame turns black with white horizontal streaks. I tried to get a screen capture of it but it happens too fast. The whole monitor doesn't turn black, just the window I'm using.
I did a little research and think it might be screen artifacts and maybe my graphics card is going bad... but can someone confirm or deny this? Does it sound like something else? It seems to be getting worse... so I want to get it taken care of.
    Any help would be great.
Here's my graphics card info... *i think*

  • How to sync page icon in TOC with file type of baggage file?

all our pages are linked to baggage files (yes, we're also
using RoboHelp for document archiving). is there any way to set up
the skin such that the page icon in the TOC reflects the type of
the attached baggage file? i.e., shows the acrobat icon when the
baggage file is a .PDF, the MS Word icon when the baggage file is a
    .DOC, and so on.
    thanks much for any help/pointer

When I have created bitmap icons in the past (used to work for a software company) I used to create them with either a icon creator tool (Axialis) or directly in photoshop.
For color depths 24 BPP or less, the transparency is coded by using a fixed color. Each pixel that have this exact color will be converted as transparent when the image is loaded in the toolbar. Usually, the color used is green RGB(0,255,0) or magenta RGB(255,0,255). The problem of this method is that if you use a pixel of that color in your icon image (not the background), it will be converted as transparent. The other issue is the poor quality of the borders (around the icons) because it does not permit smooth transparency. In other words, a pixel is either 100% transparent or 100% opaque, there is no variable transparency. It results in "aliasing" on borders for icons with rounded shapes.
This is an old technique so you will struggle to get the desired results but worth you having a look for "creating bmp icons with transparency" online.

  • Acrobat icons all generic with no preview?

After reinstalling Acrobat 9 pro on a new machine all adobe pdf icons are the generic Adobe icon with no first page preview on them.  Have tried everying from the forum so far but no success.
any help would be greatly appreciated!

Checked those options, and the user had already unchecked it in the hopes of resolving the problem...
I misspoke, it's not the menu bar, it's the toolbar. I'll update the post.
I haven't done an update on it, that was going to be my next step. If that doesn't work, I may just completely uninstall and re-install it.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Turning Red Page Icons to Blue w/ Non .Mac account?

The only time the pages changed from red to blue was when published to a .Mac account. I no longer use .Mac and when I publish to a folder the red page icons remain red, so I have no idea which pages have current changes which need uploaded to the server. If you don't use .Mac, how do you make the red page icons turn blue?

That's kinda my point - publishing to a folder 'should' do the same. It's easy for the app to check and see if there is a .Mac account (which it already does). If no .Mac account, then publishing to a folder should turn the pages from red to blue.

  • How can I get Pages and iWorks installed on Leopard

I'm still on Leopard 10.5.8 on an oldish Mac and have lots of documents in AppleWorks.
I will be buying a new Mac soon and want to make sure that I have "converted" all my important AppleWorks files to Pages and Numbers before I move.
So I want to install Pages on my Mac with Leopard but when I go to the AppleStore site, there is only the iWorks 9 version via the AppStore which isn't supported on my OS.
I had installed a demo of iWorks 08 and could simply activate this with a serial number but I cant seem to purchase this from within the app as it just directs me to the App Store.
So, is there a way to activate my iWorks 08 demo version or to buy a new copy of iWorks that will run on Leopard?
    Thanks

Restart Finder by pressing option +  command + Esc. Select Finder int he window that pops up and click on the Start/restart button.
You could also try deleting the com.apple.finder.plist file from Users > your name > Library > Preferences
Restarting the computer in safe mode , press the Shift key just after you heard the start chime. Keep it pressed until you see the grey apple. See if the folder is gone or can be moved.

  • POP-UP AD ISSUES whenever I access a new Safari page/tab. The usual blue links have turned green with a double underline. Safari is now annoying the S**T out of me, please help.

Was trying to download a torrent app and somehow accidentally installed an app that allows pop up windows to appear whenever I open a new window or tab in Safari. The usual blue links have all turned green with a double underline and whenever I hover nearby them, ads relevant to the words of the link pop up. Whenever I look at online stores like Mr. Porter, there are pop up icons saying "MORE" that link to supposedly similar products. Can anyone help me remove this problem? I've updated to the latest Mavericks, hence Safari was updated, I've deleted the app that I thought was the issue, I've disabled cookies and pop ups and I've also increased my firewall security, but to no avail. With my minimal knowledge of anything other than the day to day running of my laptop, I'm not really sure what's going on here....

You just Ctrl-click it & choose 'Open' assuming that you do wish to trust it.

Have exactly the same problem with my wife's MacBook Air. After restaring in Restore mode and trying to repair the disk (Disk Utility showed errors in the verification), the system tells me to backup as much data as possible (how?), re-format the disk and restore backed-up files. Error comes up when "updating boot support partitions for the volume as required".
Original restart action was done due to software update requesting it, if I remember correctly, iTunes was updated.
I don't want to start a painful back-up procedure (although I do regular back-ups): how should I know, where iPhoto stores it's data or where my mails are (yes, still using local mail)? How can I access the data if I can't boot?
My iMac's disk crashed also a couple of months ago and I'm still recovering. I have four Apple devices, two of them have failed. Can Apple afford such a ratio?

  • Will Lion open Appleworks documents with Pages or Numbers as Snow Leopard does?

Will Lion open Appleworks documents with Pages or Numbers like Snow Leopard does? Or do I have to convert all my Appleworks files before installing Lion?

Functionality of Pages and Numbers has little to do with whether it's runnong on Snow Leopard or Lion.  Either way, if they open an AppleWorks document in SL, they'll open it in Lion.  Of course, you have to understand that certain file types - particularly, AppleWorks databases - cannot be opened with anything other than AppleWorks, so you'll need to convert them with AppleWorks before upgrading to Lion.

I'm using a 16GB iPhone 4S, with the latest version of iOS 8.1.1. Whenever I go to the "Cellular" settings on the main settings page and turn OFF cellular data usage for native apps like mail, app store, contacts, photos etc , the moment I back out and come back in, all the native apps I turned cellular off for are back on again. Kindly help me

Exact same question as ankit1986, specifically with the photos while on cellular-only, and as simple as it sounds, I tried the hard reboot Ingo2711 suggested.  Still experiencing the same error with the native apps reverting to on.  It's killing our shared data-plan (2GB).
