Pages in Dual Monitor

Is it true that the new Inspector panel in Pages cannot be moved from the right side of the document window?
I work on a dual monitor setup, and the point is to have only the documuent on the right screen - no clutter - and park the tools on the left screen.
Also, the very reason I ever started using Pages was the advent of the Ribbon in MS Word.
Is there any solution that allows me to stop wasting inches of real estate on the right side of my right monitor? Has anyone found a magic way of detaching the panel from the document window, as many other programs enable?
What are left-handed people supposed to do?

Firefox doesn't always play well with a multiple monitor setup and hardware acceleration.
Try to disable hardware acceleration.

  • How to set up dual monitors with a Mac Mini

The Mac Mini has only one video output port. I very nearly didn't buy a Mac Mini system because I need to work with two monitors. I use the second monitor to display information in Web pages, PDFs, and Word documents while I am working in the main window.
However, I discovered after quite a bit of Googling that it is possible to set up dual monitors using an inexpensive USB video adapter (about $70).
So I bought my Mini (1.83Ghz, 2GB RAM, 200GB 7200rpm Seagate Momentus), and I also bought a USB video adapter called the EVGA Plus.
I've installed this system and used it now for a week, and I am quite pleased with it. So I thought I'd pass this information along to anyone who's interested. Please note that, although this is my first post to this forum, this isn't spam -- I have no financial relationship with any of the companies mentioned here, other than as a customer.
    LINKS
    EVGA Plus:
    http://www.evga.com/articles/409.asp
Their literature does not mention Mac OS X compatibility. However, the underlying technology is made by Display Link. You can download beta Mac OS X drivers from their site:
Go to Display Link to download the beta Mac OS support -- see
    http://www.displaylink.com/macbetadrivers.html
The disk image includes a very well written PDF document that explains the driver's status and limitations.

    NOTES
    * The DisplayLink driver is beta. It doesn't support 2D or 3D accelerated graphics. You can't use it to display iPhoto slide shows, for example. However, I need to be able to display a Web page, document, or PDF in the second monitor while I am working in the first. I've found this solution to be quite acceptable for this purpose.
    * Several other companies make USB video units that use the same DisplayLink support, so they should work, too. However, they are more expensive -- largely because they're set up to function as port expanders, I believe. The EVGA Plus was the only unit priced under $100 when I did my search.
    * USB does not have very much bandwidth, so you might be surprised that to hear that it's possible to use USB to drive a monitor! You'll find that the display isn't as fast as DVI, but for my purposes, I've found it quite acceptable.
    * The EVGA Plus comes with a terrible USB to mini USB cable that will cause all sorts of display problems. Replace it with the type of cable that is used to hook up digital cameras to a USB port.
    * Once everything is installed, you can use the Displays in System Preferences (or just click the icon on the menu bar) to adjust the second monitor. You can choose display resolutions (depending on your monitor's ability, of course). Rotation works. You can also right-click the second monitor and choose a different background color or graphic.
Don't expect miracles. Don't go this route if you want to run videos or games in the second monitor. And if you get an EVGA Plus, replace that horrible cable!
I hope this information is helpful.
    Bryan

There has been quite a lot of discussion here about driving twin displays with the mini, and more recently about the potential for USB video adapters to facilitate this, particularly in the light of several vendors claiming they have suitable MacOS devices and drivers 'almost ready'.
The DisplayLink solution seems to be the one most suggested as viable, though it's a pity they have not yet been able to move their drivers from beta - I suspect that puts a few people off. It's therefore good to hear of a real-world experience that should help others decide whether or not to go this route!

  • How do I setup a dual monitor (ATI fglrx with KDE)?

Hi, I'm trying to setup a dual monitor.. I connected with DVI to DVI and after restarting X the second monitor becomes a mirror/clone of the first (original laptop screen). However, I don't want it to be mirrored. I only want to have windows I drag over to it on the second monitor. How do I do that? In Control Center>Display, I can only choose settings for screen 1, I don't know why it can't find my 2. screen (even though X does).
Here's xorg.conf (I would appreciate if I could stick to only configuring it in Control Center though):
    # xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
    # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
    # values from the debconf database.
    # Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page.
    # (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
    # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
    # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
    # package.
    # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
    # again, run the following command:

  • [SOLVED] Help with dual monitors (second monitor won't wake up)

Hi.  I'm trying to set up dual monitors, but I can't seem to get it to work.
I've got an ASUS P8H67-M EVO motherboard, and I'm using the xf86-video-intel driver.  I'm using one VGA and one HDMI.
    xrandr gives this

So it looks to me like both displays are being detected.  The geometry looks such that one display is on top of the other, but I can change that using an xorg.conf.d config file (e.g. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mu … xorg.conf).  I also tried using arandr.
The real problem is that the display on HDMI3 just isn't "waking up".  The power is on, but it just sits there in sleep mode.
Any help would be great.  I might just be missing something simple.  Thanks.
Edit:  I just saw a short list of window managers near the bottom of the Arch Multihead page (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mu … _xorg.conf).  I don't see openbox on that list.  Does that mean I'm SOL if I want to use openbox with multiple monitors?  This page seems to imply that it should work fine with openbox http://magnatecha.com/dual-monitors-wit … nd-xrandr/.

I use XFCE, and when I boot my computer I just run:
    xrandr --output DVI-I-1 --auto --output DVI-I-2 --auto --left-of DVI-I-1
I'm assuming if you modify the names appropriately that it'll work too.  I have had issues before trying to run dual monitors without taking both outputs off of a single video card (which is what I'm doing now).  For example, I had a graphics card with one (VGA) output and a VGA output on my motherboard.  But, connecting the graphics card disabled the on-board VGA.  So it is possible (I'm not an expert here) that two displays coming off the motherboard may not work for hardware reasons.

  • FX5900-TD128 - Dual monitor support?

    ?(
I'm thinking of buy a FX5900-TD128 card, but I want dual monitor support (2 CRTs).  I looked on the product info page, but it doesn't explicitly say the card can actually do this... I don't want to find out the hard way by dropping $400+ on a card and then finding out it can't do something I need  ;(
BTW: I assume this thing will fit fine in a 865PE Neo2-LS mobo... right?
    Thanks

It would be a logical assumption that MSI's designers would get their gfx cards to fit their own mobos  :D
I haven't seen anyone complain so it should be ok.
    Thanks.

  • Dual monitor window missing

i gave dual monitors a try today for the first time. its nice but i dont feel its needed.
i like using the dual monitor if I have to read while working, such as when following a tutorial.
i discoverd that when i unplug the second monitor i lose my photoshop page and i cant get it bakc unless i restart photoshop while pressing shift+cmd+alt
is there another of making it know to reset the window to the main screen?

I don't know the procedure for handling dual monitors/projectors etc with a Mac, but with Win 7 it is doable even if you can't see anything on the screen.  Try toggling through the options to restore the single monitor status.   If you can actually see Photoshop, then just reset your Workspace.  I can't see what version of photoshop you are using, but Workspaces will be on the options bar

Do you need the word monitor in there? I was under the impression you only needed "VGA-1". I'm having a similar problem to you though so don't take my advice too carefully (why didn't I back up my old conf file :'()
    Edit; You do.
Here is my krandrrc from when I used KDE. Could you put something in your autostart as a hack?

  • Remembering SaveAs dialog position on dual-monitor

    Hello,
I'm using Acrobat 9 Standard with dual monitor setup.
How can I get Acrobat to remember the last position of the SaveAs dialog on the other monitor after moving it there?
I'm using a script to automate the extraction of each page and saving each as an individual file.
Every time a page is extracted, the SaveAs dialog will obstruct my view of the content, which I need to move to another screen, before I can type in the appropriate filename.
    Thanks,
    Devin

Can somebody please confirm if you're experiencing the same issue on your dual monitor setup? Thanks.

  • Dual-Monitor Presenter?

I am trying to run a presentation in Keynote on an external monitor, but have the ability to edit the next slide without exiting the presentation, similar to PowerPoint on dual monitors. The computer is an iMac G5. However, it will not allow me to set it up in extended desktop mode, so I am not sure if this setup is possible on this particular computer, or if it could be done using a workaround of some sort. If it helps, it is connected using an S-Video cable. Any help would be appreciated!

Wow. I finally (partly) figured this one out. Although many have said that Keynote will absolutely not work in dual-screen, I found a utility to force at least some of the older Macs into dual-screen extended mode. It's a bit of a risk, so I'd seriously recommend a full clone backup and printed instructions on how to reset the nvram/pram if you try this (if something goes wrong, first do the nvram/pram reset, then restore from the backup if necessary), but http://www.rutemoeller.com/mp/ibook/ibook_e.html has a utility to do this. (Techies can scroll down the page for the principles that make it work.) Before you even download it, BE SURE TO CHECK THE COMPATIBILITY LISTS!!! I am not responsible for any damage this could possibly do, but if you need extended desktop mode on an older Mac that doesn't natively support it, this looks like the only option. Hope this helps someone. It just makes me wonder though, maybe someone could do something similar with Keynote. One can always hope.

  • Dual monitor and hw accel mutually exclusive (using Awesome WM)

Hi I've been using Arch for some months now and I have laptop (Lenovo x220 with integrated intel graphics) with an occasional dual monitor setup. Things were smooth, but I was having issues with video tearing, so I went trough the intel graphics arch wiki page and I was able to turn on hw acceleration and get rid of the video tearing by putting this in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d
        # /etc/X11/xorc.conf.d/20-intel.conf
        Section "Device"
           Identifier  "Intel Graphics"
           Driver      "intel"
           Option      "AccelMethod"  "sna"
           Option      "TearFree"     "true"
        EndSection
The problem is that I add that file I no longer have proper dual monitor with extended desktop, the second monitor kind of mirrors the main one.
kind of, because I can move the pointer between the two monitors and is not duplicated, but the desktop (widows and awesome menu) is duplicated on the second monitor, but I can only interact with the windows using the mouse from the main monitor.
I usually do `$ xrandr --mode 1920x1080 --output HDMI1 --right-of LVDS1` to output to the second monitor, and it was working allright.
I've been trough arch and gentoo wiki looking for dual monitor/xorg config stuff to no avail yet.

    I found a fix in this thread: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-71 … c9ec76f8b8
Adding `i915.semaphores=1` to my boot params allows me to use the TearFree option in xorg config, without X crashing and with a dual monitor setup.

  • Mobile dual monitor setup

What is the best way to setup up dual monitors with a laptop?  I have different screens at home and at work and would like to be able to switch between them and having no second monitor.
One option I was considering was having multiple xorg.conf files and swapping them as necessary.  Would I need to restart X after the switch or is there some command to get X to re-read the config files?  Is this even a good apporach?

here's a wiki page that tells some basic stuff about dual monitors using a single xorg file...  you will likely have to use your own monitor driver but it will give you the basics.

  • [HELP] MSI 6870 dual monitor problem

    mobo: asrock 970 extreme 4.
    procesor: phenom x4 965.
    PSU: Seasonic 500W SS-500ES 80 Plus Bronze.
    ram: Corsair CML4GX3M2A1600C9B (2x2Gb) DDR3 .
    monitors: benq GL950A.
    VGA: MSI R6870 HAWK Twin-Frozr-II-OC 1gb.
    OS: WINDOWS 7 64bit.
i want to ask, how to dual monitor with this card? the second DVI is not work.. i have the benq GL950 with VGA connector and i use VGA to DVI-I(single link) - ( this is main the display), and the second one is acer x173w, and it has VGA connector too.. then i bought DVI-I(dual link) connector for the acer x173w, so i place benq GL950 with on the top slot, and the acer x173w on the second DVI slot. But the second monitor is no signal, and i tried to detect the monitors on windows 7 64bit, but windows cant detect it.. and the problem is still same.. no signal, and the screen goes blank after it. i have tried reinstall driver but the problm is still same.. help me please.. im so stressed with this..

If you could find a real ADC to DVI-I adapter, it would work, but the Dr. Botts ADC to DVI adapter
    <http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Dr%2E%20Bott/ADCDVII/>
will not work with a DVI to VGA adapter. It does have a dual-link DVI-I connector, but the pins for analog video (and dual link) do not connect to anything. They use this connector because some non-Apple digital displays come with DVI-I and/or dual-link DVI plugs, when they only need DVI-D signals. The Dr; Botts adapter and (all others that I have seen) are only ADC to DVI-D. Even if they connect the dual-link pins from the ADC to the DVI connector, the result will be single-link DVI-D, since no ADC cards provide dual-link signals. There is no reason (other than cost) why an adapter couldn't connect the analog video signals from ADC to a DVI-I connector, but I don't know of any that do.
    From their web-page:
"DVI Extractor II makes an ADC-compatible display out of virtually any third-party flat panel display"
    Note they say "flat panel".
You need an ADC to VGA adapter. They are listed from $40 to $150. Still less than a compatible replacement graphics card, although you can get a card faster than you current one, if you pay enough.

  • Please help with these dual monitor problem

    Ok,
Well i am a final cut pro editor and i have a power mac g5 with 1.6 ghz.Its an older one but it runs great for what i need done. Anyway i wanted to go dual monitors so i went out bought a monitor and set it in place. However my graphics card only had 1 DVI PORT (Which had my main monitor on) and the other one was a ADC port. I bought a ADC to DVI-D and then realized it was the wrong one. Those Adaptors are very hard to fine, so i made up my mind a decided to forget that and get another graphics card. However i am not very good with that stuff and i really dont know which one to buy. Some others gave me a list but they were not the same as mine (slots didnt match)
*Here is my card that i have now*

Can someone point me in the right direction about going to best buy and picking up a new one that will hold dual monitors and still run motion at a good level.
    Thannks

  • Elements 12 - can it use dual monitors?

I've just purchased and installed Elements 12 on my new computer which runs Windows 8.1.
I would like to work on my digital scrapbooking page on one monitor and view the elements and papers from digital kits on the secondary monitor. Does anyone know if this is possible?
    Thanks,
