Pages inserted  image "placement" greyed

Using Pages '09, version 4.0 (727)
I started with a blank document, added a table, added a photo (shift-command-V). The photo cannot be altered from "Inline (Moves with text)". Why?
I had this happen a year ago, and got a solution, but I have lost my notes (I am usually diligent at making my own "Help" notes). I make several Pages documents each day, often with photos inserted, and have only had this happen once before, so it is something truly rare. I have tried a new document using a different template (the default "Blank" word processing template), same issue.
I am forced to use MS Word now, because the document is needed tomorrow. This sort of insanity should be eliminated. No reason to lock an image in place.

The better explanation is that you paste the image outside the table, set it as floating, and then move it to the cell area. This is a clumsy business, as one should first add a break before making the table, or there is no place to paste.
This method of dragging the image into the cell after setting it to float is a bit unpredictable when shared as a Word document. The images shifts position, even when grouped with the table. As a test, I duplicated the document, deleted the image, and pasted it directly iunto the cell. That kept the images in position after export as Word. I hope Apple can improve on this shabby design soon. Setting the image to float AFTER pasting directly into the cell would be the best of both worlds, and the way a proper layout app should function.

  • Inserting image in Pages footer

    Hi, I'm new to a mac and iWork '09.
    I am trying to create a landscape formatted ebook. Only problem is, I can't figure out how to create a footer which has both an image and a page number (which would start on page 2 - as page 1 is the cover page).
    I've searched Google and video tutorials to figure this out and have yet to. Can somebody point me in the right direction?
    Thank you.

    idg,
    You should have no trouble inserting a graphic and a page number into a footer. What happens when you try?
    To begin your footers on the second page, go to the Layout Inspector, Section tab, and click the box labeled First Page is Different.
    You will have more flexibility in object placement if you use Section Master objects rather than the Footer field. You can put the page number in a Text Box and format it to Section Master status along with the graphic. To start on the second page, insert a section break at the end of the first page.

  • How do I show multiple rollover images on a page inserted dynamically (pulled out of a sql database

    How do I show multiple rollover images on a page inserted dynamically (pulled out of a sql database table) using Dreamweaver’s Repeat Region. Example: I have different products each one associated (through their productID) with two images (one that’s showing in the page and one for the rollover effect) that are pulled from a database using Dreamweaver’s Recordset. So I want to end up with a page containing row after row of images(one for every product).When moused over each image will reveal the second (rollover) image for the same product which in turn can be a link(the image itself ) that when clicked leads to a detailed page with more information about the product the image is associated with. To show row after row with images for the different products in the database table I am using Dreamweaver’s Insert Rollover Image command and then the  Repeat Region – I have no problem to complete the steps, to insert the image and the rollover one at once and set the paths so they are pulled dynamically depending on the productID they are associated with .I have also no problem to apply the Repeat Region so not only the first image associated with the first product in the table is shown but all of them-a routine and standard procedure when using the Repeat Region to dynamically generate and display multiple rows of data. However, when I preview the page the rollover effect is lost –the images are shown but when moused over the second  image does not  show. The problem is caused when the Repeat Region is applied-once again I am allowed to apply it but the rollover stops working, a kind of interference. ANY SOLLUTION PLEASE, ANY WORK AROUND.

    I gotta tell you, using multiple images for rollover effects is going to be a big challenge in your dynamic scenario.
    If this were my product page, I would use thumbnails with a bit of CSS opacity or filters to desaturate and make them full opacity/color on mouse over.  Nice effect with much less bandwidth. Easily done globally with CSS code.

  • When searching Google Images with FireFox, the first page of images are visible in thumbnails but all subsequent pages are greyed out.

    This happens every time on a Google search. Greyed-out thumbnails will show individually if double-clicked. Every page of images after page 1 experiences the same problem. Reload does not help.
    Is this a Google problem or a Firefox problem?

    Doc: I've had a similar experience, and here are the details, investigation, and a workaround. My printer is a Brother MFC-645CN, and I'm using Snow Leopard (10.6.8) on a 2010 iMac quad i5 connected to the printer over my ethernet LAN. Are you using a Brother printer?
    Firefox has shown this kind of nasty issue for the past six months or so. It seems to be related to the imaging algorithms in Preview when dealing with Firefox (now at v.12) and the Brother printer -- the screwy second page (and beyond) show up skewed and up-sized when doing a print preview also. No such problem seen in Safari or anything else. I am not currently using any other Mozilla apps on this Mac besides Firefox.
    A few months ago I tested printing from my administrator account and  a different user account. Firefox printing was completely normal and as expected. When I went back to my main user account, back came the funky second page.I went through extensive troubleshooting to try to chase it down, systematically removing and replacing apps and preferences and many other Library files related to printing, Brother drivers, Firefox, and Preview. Nothing helped. Solution was to migrate my user files to an account where the printing problem wasn't happening. I deleted the problem user account.
    Everything was fine for about three weeks, and then with no warning, printing was back to the bad second page, just as before. I am stumped, and I'll let smarter people try to figure it out. I use Firefox a lot, and it's possible that some add-on setting is interfering, or a web page I visited turned the printing funky again. I just don't know.
    Also checked on a Mac G4 running Leopard (10.5.8) and Firefox 3.6.28. No printing/preview problems there.
    Now, for the work-around I am currently using -- print each page separately, one at a time. Page 1, then page 2, etc. Preview and printing looks completely normal. Hope this works for you until the bug is located and squashed for good.

  • SCN document: 'Insert Image' greyed out at a certain stage/size

    I noticed  a similar issue likeTammy has reported in discussion/thread .Cannot insert or upload an image
    After having inserted text and several images to a draft document, the 'Insert Image' icon became greyed out at a certain stage/size.
    I did some tests following document Solution for Error: Cannot Insert Images on SCN Content, but the the behavior remained the same. Only after having deleted the last inserted image in the document > Save Draft > Edit again the 'Insert Image' icon was not greyed out anymore which is argueing for a size restriction.
    The same html coding as in the document put into a blog does not grey out the ‘Insert Image’ icon. But I found out that after clicking on the ‘Insert Image’ icon > ‘From your Computer’  tab ‘Browse’ is greyed out. Strange and argueing against a size limit is, when I choose ‘Uploaded Images’ I can select images and still  insert them into the blog.
    Does someone have similar experiences / can assist.

  • Problem in insert image function

    Hi there...I'm brand, spanking new to Dreamweaver CS3, and I
    just started working through tutorials to try to learn the
    software. I'm having a little issue with something that is problem
    very easily fixable to the gurus here.
    When I tell Dreamweaver to "insert image" through the Common
    Bar, it takes me straight to the accessibility dialog. When I click
    OK, it then puts a small box with no image on the page. I then have
    to double click the box to tell it what image to place into the
    image holder. This doesn't seem correct to me as I'm duplicating
    steps. It's becoming annoying when I'm working with several images.
    The tutorial I'm using shows another dialog box asking for the
    image BEFORE the accessibility dialog box. It's not working this
    way for me.
    Can you help?
    Thanks!
    Kym

    This is definitely an odd issue. Have you tried installing
    any extensions to DW? If so, uninstall them and see if the function
    works.
    If not try just try inserting an image by clicking the
    drop-down arrow next to the insert image button and then click to
    insert an image and see if it takes you to the right screen.
    If that doesn't work you may need to try re-installing the
    program. I would suggest some other OS specific things you can do
    such as trashing the preferences file from the Mac OSX library, but
    I don't know what OS you are using so it wouldn't help to tell you
    these steps as at this point it might just be more beneficial to do
    a re-install.

  • Inserted images leave ghost outline in PDF

    I have never had this problem but am in the middle of producing a large document with multiple inserted images. When I output as a PDF, some - but not all - of the images show a very faint gray outline - almost as if I had created a pencil thin frame in gray. I have tried inserting both JPEG and PDF files of the same images but with the result is the same. The images are predominantly charts and graphs with white back grounds so the unintended frame is a problem.
    Thanks for any suggestions of solutions.

    Chris
    I examined the .pdf structure in Illustrator and the hairline is actually the revealed edge of a grey background behind the graph where the trimbox appears.
    The structure is a little complicated. Basically the whole of the .pdf of the table which you created from Numbers has the grey background, which is then masked by the trimbox you created in Preview when you cropped it.
    You need to go back to the original Numbers' tables to see what the grey background is there that could be causing the masked grey object.
    Alternately, don't trim the table in Preview. Just bring the whole untrimmed graph into Pages into an image box, which you then mask to trim out the unwanted elements.

  • Inserting images in dreamweaver

    HELP! :)
    when I insert images on my page, large grey box with a grey X
    appears...does anyone know how to fix this?

    Josie is right - sounds like you are not working in a defined
    site within Dreamweaver.
    The cross mark means the image is not linked correctly.
    If you are working in a defined site, then maybe post a link
    to the problem page or post the code to
    the probelm area.

  • Correct workflow when inserting images into text, InDesign CS4

    Hi,
    I am new to InDesign and I have a problem regarding a really basic thing and I would be very grateful for help.
    I am writing an article which is about 10 pages long. It consists mostly of text. I have finished writing and now I want to add some illustrations with descriptions. I've already figured out it's best to insert images into the text frame so they behave as "anchored objects" and they move together with text when I add or delete something on previous pages. Now I would like to place TWO OR MORE images, one next to each other, in a line. This is a bit tricky but I created an object style with Position: Custom in "Anchored object options" and it works more or less fine. This works great but now it would be hard to add descriptions to these images that would still be anchored.
    So I created something different. I made an empty rectangle frame, a small text frame under it and grouped them. Then I placed it in my master text frame and basically did the same thing as for previously described images. Now I place the newly loaded image in the empty rectangular frame and add text in the empty text frame. BUT now I have problems with frame size for different-size images.
    What if I have a REALLY LONG article and want to add LOTS of images with decriptions that would be anchored in the text so I can edit previous pages? I can do this my way, but it's extremely uncomfortable and takes ages. Is there any comfortable, non-destructive workflow for doing such things?
    Sorry for my English.

    Hi,
    I would recommend following steps:
    Place one or more images
    Don't anchor them yet.
    Arange them (the images) relatively to each other, add a text frame and arrange them correct relatively to the images.
    Group images and text
    Copy (or cut) them into the clippboard
    Set the curser into the text where it should flow
    Paste it
    Adjust the anchored object (the group)
    You need to group several objects to anchor them together as one anchor.
    Further recommendation:
    For the images I would specify an object style for fitting, stroke, corner optione.
    For text frames I would specify an object style for text object options, like text offset, and used paragraph style, no boarder, etc.
    For the group I would spcify an object style which leaves above mentioned settings undefined (option field is grea or has a dash). But the anchored position of the whole group and text wrapping should be specified.

  • Inserting image at position of xmlelement

    To insert an image at the location of an xml tag's content, I tried using code similar to how one does it using a text frame's insertion point:
    var myGraphic = myXMLElement.insertionPoints.item(0).place ( myFile );
    This does not work. Tom77 posted a related question on October 10th that remains unanswered, here:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bbf275d.59b6b5ad
    Does anyone know how to either
    - access the insertion point of an xml element, or what might be limitations
    - or, use an alternate, simple method to find the correct insertion point after placing xml content using an xml rule
    Thanks

    Hi eLearning Developer,
    re: "...but the insertion points will not exist until the content is placed in the document on something other than an xml layer."
    It's true that you can't place a graphic into an insertion point in an unplaced XML text element, but the insertion points *do* exist--take a look at the XMLStory.jsx example script.
    In any case, you can place graphics in uplaced content by adding an href attribute, as shown in the following:
    //PlaceXMLGraphic.jsx
    //An InDesign CS4 JavaScript
    //Shows how to place a graphic in unplaced XML content.
    main();
    function main(){
        mySetup();
        mySnippet();
    function mySetup(){
    function mySnippet(){
    var myDocument = app.documents.add();
    var myRootXMLElement = myDocument.xmlElements.item(0);
    var myXMLTag = myDocument.xmlTags.add("xml_element");
    var myXMLGraphicTag = myDocument.xmlTags.add("xml_graphic");
    var myXMLElementA = myRootXMLElement.xmlElements.add(myXMLTag);
    myXMLElementA.contents = "This is a paragraph in an XML story.";
    var myXMLGraphicElement = myRootXMLElement.xmlElements.add(myDocument.xmlTags.item("xml_graphic"));
    var myGraphicAttribute = myXMLGraphicElement.xmlAttributes.add("href", "file:///C:/test.jpg");
    var myTextFrame = myDocument.pages.item(0).textFrames.add({geometricBounds:myGetBounds(myDocument, myDocument.pages.item(0))});
    //Place the XML element in the layout to see the result.
    myDocument.xmlElements.item(0).placeXML(myDocument.pages.item(0).textFrames.item(0));
    function myGetBounds(myDocument, myPage){
    var myPageWidth = myDocument.documentPreferences.pageWidth;
    var myPageHeight = myDocument.documentPreferences.pageHeight
    if(myPage.side == PageSideOptions.leftHand){
      var myX2 = myPage.marginPreferences.left;
      var myX1 = myPage.marginPreferences.right;
    else{
      var myX1 = myPage.marginPreferences.left;
      var myX2 = myPage.marginPreferences.right;
    var myY1 = myPage.marginPreferences.top;
    var myX2 = myPageWidth - myX2;
    var myY2 = myPageHeight - myPage.marginPreferences.bottom;
    return [myY1, myX1, myY2, myX2];

  • Determining which page an image is on

    I am trying to replace all the images in a document with a different image. To do this, I am looping through all images in the document, getting the image bounds, determining which page the image is on, then using that information to create a textframe and place a new image. I am using this code to determine which page an image is on:
    pageImageIsOn = myImages[ imgNum ].parent.parent.parentTextFrames[0].parent.name;
    Sometimes, this gives the opposite page - I am not sure if it is giving the opposite page on the spread, or the wrong number because the textframe is linked to the page opposite on the spread.
    The textframes are created dynamically in earlier parts of the script.
    (the reason I am using this approach is that the original images are inserted in xml elements - they are placeholders - the replacement images are placed directly on the page)
    Thank you.

    Thank you - however, after experimentation, I think I need a different approach. Mixed facing pages is not the only obstacle. This is a toughy!
    What I am trying to do is use placeholder images in xml elements (placed during rule processing of an imported xml doc) to mark locations for other images that will be placed in a second pass. These new images will be chosen based on the tag content.
    I cannot place images based on content the first time through because they end up inside the xml element, and so cannot be floated in the margin.
    My first approach involved looping through all images in the document (myDocument.allGraphics) and replacing them based on the content info I recorded in the initial doc processing - this ALMOST works. Unfortunately, they are not exactly in the right order - sometimes, they are a bit off, especially when content spans multiple pages.
    I tried copying the placeholders into an array the first time through - however, the images in this array do not allow access of the page information via the heirarchy above.
    Is there another approach? Thanks again for helping.

  • I can't insert images anymore. Why?

    Hi,
    I've been building web pages just fine inserting my images by clicking Insert and then Image. I did some messing around in the accessibility pane and I thought I only updated it to prompt me if I wanted to change all links internally (and some other stuff) but now I can't insert images this way. The only way I can is if I go over to the image list on the local files list and drag it over and that's a pain and really inefficient for me.
    What happens when I DO click the Insert button, then the image button is that I get a box that says Image Accessibility Attributes and when I try to select an image I get a grey box.
    Another weird thing that is happening is that I can't create a link by highlighting the text and then clicking Hyperlink from the right hand side under Common Inserts.
    I just got a new keyboard yesterday, the kind that plugs into my laptop. Could this be causing my problem too perhaps? Help!
    Thanks,
    Stephanie

    Ok, I just figured it out. What I did when I was editing my preferences was accidentally uncheck the"show dialog box when inserting objects" box and that caused the problem. The way to solve it is to either check the box again or to hit Ctrl-click when trying to insert an image on a Windows computer or Command-click on a Mac. This resolved the hyperlink problem as well. The problem was that I was getting a # sign and the text would disappear. Hope this helps somebody else.
    Thanks,
    Stephanie

  • Using local/testing server with cs5 inserting images look fine in the split screen but do not show

    Hi
    If I open example: header.php and insert any photo jpeg/.html ecs i can see the images in the split screen but not in the browser if i save then refresh. I am able to make any change to the code ecs. and they are reflected just fine. I have tried this with my fireworks images .html and when that did not work i tried a strait jpeg off the desktop. This all did not work. I have deleted the local server then step by step created a new one via devnet instruction. This did not work! everything looks fine i even tried in 3 sep browsers with 0 luck....There is no remote server connected at this time because i am making a child theme for my current site. After all changes are done we will the ftp the word press files to site and change.
    Ps i even started over from scratch with 0 positive affects....

    After a lot of pain!!!!!!! the issue is fixed lol After 3 weeks I have overlooked the obvious !!! so the simple fix was the path of the image. Yes i feel stupid 10 years in lol....
    Apparently dreamweaver cs 5 will not use the full path when inserting images into the page example: If you drag the image out of your assets folder or however you do it, DW will give you a path like this <img src="images/glass.jpg" width="800" height="729"> This is not the full path and when your pist!!! you cant see things like that ;( so the image path should look like this:
    <img src="wp-content/themes/adszoom/images/glass.jpg" width="800" height="729">
    also in the html files example of bad then good!
