Pages is being updated won't open on Mavericks

Hello everyone
I have a MacBook Pro and just updated to mavericks.
everything works accept Pages, it give me a nice error message saying
"Pages can not be opened while it is being updated"
that's all fine but it's been like that for weeks (since I don't use it often)
but I have a need for it and now I'm stuck.
the error box has the App logo on it -but in the ap store there is no sign up updating or need thereof
I bought it installed whil the computer along with numbers and keynote
numbers launches and Keynote Does the Same Thing!
I just discovered that.
and here is a strange happening:in the iWork Folder there are 3 programs: Keynote Pages and Numbers.
in the icons they show that little X in the top left corner like I could delete them from my iphone
and in the list form it has its size as a load bar where the size of numbers is 89.4 mb
ok that's a lot
anyone have any ideas?
thanks ASC! or AppleHeads?
Billy

Glad that fix worked for you, but I'm in a bit more of a pickle. Pages isn't paused, it's "installed" but with an "error" (see screenshot: http://cl.ly/image/0a1M3L0E0I1q).
The App Store says the app is installed, and there's no obvious option to uninstall it. I'm off to start manually removing bits and pieces. Seriously, Mavericks and the Apple suite of "work" apps is the biggest joke since Windows 95.
I'll update and reply once I've muddled thru a fix.

Well, standard things to try include testing: (1) in a different User account (e.g., Guest), (2) after starting up in Safe Mode.

You aren't likely to get an answer with that type of attitude. BTW, you are not contacting Apple on these forums. We are all volunteer end users just like you. If you want support, then call AppleCare and you can get one-on-one assistance.

  • Pages 5.0.1 won't open .pages!

    Hi!
My Pages 5.0.1 won't open some .pages file... created few days ago in this same app!
    Couldn't open file 'Arabski ćwiczenia.pages'
    OK
Of course also pages 09 doesn't open, this is pages 5 format.

One thing Pages does which Pages '09 doesn't do is Right to Left text such as Arabic.

  • Internet Connect crash/Software Update won't open

    I have a 500mhz G3 slot loading iMac running 10.3.9
About 2 weeks ago, after waking FrankenMac up from sleep mode, I noticed the Airport status symbol failed to appear in the menu bar (next to the volume/date&time etc).
Looking into my Network settings revealed that I was indeed still connected to the internet, via my Airport, all systems go. However, I noticed that "show airport status in menu bar" was unchecked, so I checked the box. Which apparently did jack squat b/c there's still no icon.
For the last couple weeks, as long as I've been connected to the internet, I could really give a flying flip about whether the airport status icon is there or not. I mean, seriously. I know this computer is a little old so why rock the boat on something trivial?
Until today. Today I was determined to figure out where the icon is, why it went away and if there are any other underlying problems.
I started first with Internet connect. Applications->Internet Connect, clicked on the purple IC button, only to have it launch in the dock, bounce once, then quit.

I attempted to open Software Update next to see if there was something critical (ha!) I might be missing. Apple menu->software update and it was a repeat performance of Internet Connect, except this time I wouldn't even get so much as the Software Update icon in the dock. The dock would move everything to the left, as if it was going to open, then....nothing.
*Software update was working as of 6/14*, when I updated (perhaps foolishly) to Quicktime 7.5.

This ridiculously long post boils down to 2 questions, really.
    • Any ideas why Internet Connect and Software Update won't open and how to fix?
    • Where in the world is my Airport status icon? (not that it matters since I'm connected to the internet, but doggone it!)
I've run Disk Utility, repaired permissions and the HD checks out fine. I'm just at a loss (not surprising, given my limited amount of fix-it-yerself knowledge)
Should I just put up, shut up and be grateful that these problems, while aggravating, aren't majorly disrupting my life?

  • Photos update won't open past the "preparing library" page

iPhoto just updated to Photo 2015.  I can't get to my pictures because the app won't open past the "preparing library" page.

    Hi wolfey_j
    Welcome to apple discussions.
Drag and drop the plist for iDvd to the trash followed by a full restart of your mac and then repair permissions from apple's disc utility (application > utilities > disc utility)
The plist for iDvd looks like this:
    com.apple.iDvd.plist
If that fails to resolve this issue then delete iDvd using this free download from apple's web site:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/appdelete.html
You'll need to re-install iDvd again (custom install from the software that shipped with your mac or any retail copy of iLife'09). And lastly run apple's software updater from system preferences so all is up to date again. (not a bad idea to repair permissions one more time after updating all apps.)
Hope this resolves the issue/s but if not just come on back.
    Good luck.

  • Latest Keynote update won't open file. Says I need Keynote update! Why?

I'm working on an urgent Keynote presentation for work (yes, on Sat night!) from my boss's MacBook at home ... or, rather, I'm trying to. Keynote just won't open the Keynote file I created yesterday on a different MacBook (reading from USB key). It says I need the newer version of Keynote in order to open this file. I checked ... the version installed was the latest version, but just for good measure, I've just re-installed the update from the Apple site (with boss's permission, lol). No joy ... still returning the same error message. Insists the file version is newer than the version of Keynote I'm running.
    Help, anyone?

You are alternating between the two versions of Pages:
    Pages 5 and Pages '09.
Pages '09 can not open Pages 5, and Pages 5 alters/damages Pages '09 files.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09 is in your Applications/iWork folder.

  • Pages file from iPad won't open on Mac

My iPad has Pages version 2.0 (1058). It uses iCloud and runs iOS 7.0.3.
My Mac has iWorks 09, bought as a hard package with disc, not from AppStore. The Pages included in that says it's version 4.3. Running under Mavericks on an iMac.
Wrote a file on the iPad today. Trying to open it on the Mac yields a message "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document". So I looked at the support pages and found a recommendation to download an update of iWorks to version 9.3. The support page said "iWork Update 9.3 adds support for iWork for iOS 1.7 apps." Whatever that is.
Did this and installed. My Pages still claims to be version 4.3 and will not open the document in iCloud, written on the iPad. Same error message. This is a bit annoying. Does it mean I need to buy a new iWorks version for the Mac in order to get it to work with the iPad version?
    Åke

iWork 9.3 includes Pages 4.3, but Pages 2.0 for iOS requires Pages 5.0 on a Mac. Pages 5.0 needs OS X Mavericks, so you have to upgrade Mac OS X.
Open the Mac App Store and download OS X Mavericks. Make a backup of your files with Time Machine and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com
After upgrading, open the Mac App Store, go to Updates tab and download the most recent Pages version free of charge

  • Pages 5.0 update - documents not opening

Pages has been updated to 5.0.  Previous documents had information removed and then will not open saying that a higher version of Pages is required.  New documents I have created since the update will also not open saying that I need a higher version

No, Pages hasn't been updated. Pages has been upgraded, that is there is an entirely new version of Pages named Pages 5.0
Pages 5.0 can open Pages 09 documents but not vice versa. I suspect that you are trying to open a Pages 5.0 document in Pages 09.
Pages 09 is in the Applications > iWork 09 folder.
Pages 5.0 is in the Application folder. The icons for Pages 09 in the Dock or the Launch Pad ins't updated though. You have to do that yourself.

  • New iTunes update won't open.  First it said Apple Mobil Device failed to start.  So I Stopped then Started Apple Mobil Device.  Now iTunes still won't load.  Tells me MSVCR80.dll was not found.  Wants me to reinstall app.  Will I lose all my music?

Current iTunes update won't load.  Tells me MSVCR80.dll was not found.  Wants me to reboot.  If I reboot, will I lose my music?

    Hi DDay@55,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
To resolve this error, I recommend completely removing and reinstalling iTunes and all of its related components using these steps:
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
You can find the article with these steps and more information here:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
This process should not affect any music or content on your computer, but you may want to
back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive.
    Best,
    Jeremy

  • Keynote 6.5.2 update won't open with Yosemite 10.10.2

Keynote 6.5 won't open even though I've updated it from 6.2.2.  My OS X version is Yosemite 10.10.2.  I get the error: Install the latest version of OS X, then download the latest version of Keynote from the Mac App Store.  I have done all possible updates and restarted my computer and still this error happens.  On my other computer with OS X 10.10 Keynote 6.5 opens just fine.  How do I fix the problem with it not opening in 10.10.2?

    Hello gradinc,
It is hard to say what this could be. If you are still getting prompts to upgrade Keynote, it may be trying to open an older version. I would try and delete Keynote and then download it again. I would also try to open it within Launchpad or opening it directly from the Mac App Store to see if the error comes up again. If it does let me know.

My mail application crashes as soon as I open it. Notification centre is non-existent now and Messages app won't open at all. Other apps such as iBooks, Mail, After Affects, Quick Time Player, Maps, App Store, and a few others won't open at all on this new system. I'm soo angry with Apple as I've never had so many problems with a new OS X. .. I would love to downgrade back to Mountain Lion OS. Anyone with helpful info, please respond. Thanks.

  • CS6 updater won't open

I just upgraded from Production Premium CS5 to CS6.  The updater icon at the top of my screen shows 6 updates available.  However, when I click on it to open the Adobe Updater, the Updater just bounces in the dock and won't open.  How can I get the updater to work?  I'm on an Intel Mac Pro running Lion 10.7.4.

I’m still experiencing this problem. I submitted a bug report to Adobe just now, but I recieved no trouble ticket number or email confirmation. I’ll post an update here if I hear anything from them.
In the mean time, I have found a pretty reliable workaround. The update check seems to run when you first start up your computer for the day. If it runs and shows updates in your menu bar, you can get the updates to run if you:
    Restart your computer
Launch one of your CS suite applications like Photoshop
Select Help > Updates ... from the menu.
The updater should run and you should be able to install the applications.
This trick has been working well for me for the past few months. Good luck!

  • Pages 8 launches but won't open files

I've purchased the family pack iWorks 8 and installed it on 3 of my macs. Two work flawlessly but my older G4 desktop is a problem. Numbers and Keynote work so far, but Pages doesn't. When I launch the program, it won't open a new file or any existing files; the "open" dialog box appears for a split second, then closes. It just sits there looking at me--useless and taunting. Any ideas?
I have a 1.4 GHz Sonnet processor upgrade: Might that be the problem?
After looking through more than 60 pages of topics without seeing anything similar, I'm not holding out much hope.

I just opened Console.app and then tried again to open Pages 8. One of the many strings of info regarding the opening of Pages reads: 12/7/07 2:30:20 PM Pages[614] * +[NSString stringWithCString:]: NULL cString .
This is clearly a problem and one for which I haven't the technical skills to manage. Any suggestions?
