Pages is not meeting my needs

Question

Pages might be good for someone that only needs a M$ Word Processor clone, but I seriously miss the flexibility and creativity that AppleWorks provided with its Draw and Paint tools alone. Starting with a draw document I could create any page layout I wanted, create multiple text fields, use multiple layers, place a paint canvas into a draw document, create a small spreadsheet or table as an object, and virtually do everything that a word processor could do. I even used to create animation frames using Draw and Paint. I have yet to duplicate any of the hundreds of documents created in AppleWorks in Pages or M$ Word which makes me wonder where Apple is headed. Is anyone aware of an application that will allow me to do the aforementioned stuff?

Numbers offer a lot of the features which are available in AppleWorks Draw documents.
In a sheet, we aren't forced to have tables (but of course we may have).
We may have
text blocks,
picture blocks,
shapes ID beziers curves,
songs,
videos…
