Pages is not responding.  Showing a blank grey screen?

Any suggestions?

Sounds more like your Mac is showing a blank grey screen. Is anything else working? Have you tried rebooting?
btw I helps to actually provide some details, we are just appaulingly bad guessers here and a quick look around you will confirm that we are not looking over your shoulder at what is going on.
No Pages version. No OSX version. No background to what lead up to this. No description of how you installed Pages. No description of what you were trying to open. So a full house of non-description.

  • Okular presentation mode shows only blank grey screen (using Xmonad)

I have a problem getting the presentation mode of Okular to work. When I select presentation mode, the screen is covered by a grey window with nothing in it. The only way to get rid of this window is by killing it from the window manager (i.e. the normal "exit presentation mode" shortcut (esc) doesn't work).
I am using Xmonad as a window manager (using the KDEWM environment variable).
It has been working before, but I don't know which update broke it.
I am running KDE 4.5.2 and Xmonad 0.9.1.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,

I haven't found a way to make it stop doing that, but when the grey screen appears, pressing "B" twice seems to solve it, and make the normal presentation mode appear. (B is bound to "Switch to blackscreen mode").
This makes okular usable for presentations for me...
    Thanks!

  • Lab Manager console is disconnected and shows a blank grey screen

    Hello,
I am trying to solve an issue in Lab Manager v4.0 (no update 1) that is perplexing me.  I am simply trying to show or view an open console in Lab manager using IE6. I am prompted to install the MKS add-on (quickMksAx.dll) and I can that no problem.  When I try to "show" the console view it pauses for a few seconds and then displays "The console is disconnected" wiht a bland grey background.  I have spent several hours searching for a solution on google but to no avail.  I have tried these documented workarounds on the VMware website but again to no avail.  Any help would be much appreciated.  There are several users in our company that will access Lab Manager via IE6 exclusively.  I need to know what settings to change in IE to get around this problem.  One important note, this only happens when I connect to Lab Manager 4.0.  Works fine on Lab Manager v3.
I attached a jpg showing the error screen.
    Thank you in advance!

I'm running LabManager 4.04 with IE9 and Firefox 10.x. The Black Windows Screen is sometimes there sometimes not.
The Browsers more or less doenst react when connecting and then the Console Window through mks-plugin is there and sometimes
    the black window appears.
I first thought some problems with a local firewall and checked the logfile but none of the ports and ip destinations show up as blocked.
Then i checked the system with the process explorer. The mks plugin exe doesnt seem to start when the black window appears.
When the Console is visible the vmware plugin starts up and is availabe in the process monitor.
The Plugin writes logfiles in the logged in users Appdata\Local\vmware....\vmware-%username%-xxxx.txt but first when it could be started.
I havent checked by now the following possible reasons
    - Identical Systemtime
    - DNS Resolution of ESX-Hosts
    - Webconsole Interface vCenter
But why does it work sometimes and sometimes not the possible reasons doesnt fit to Identical Systemetime, DNS-Resolution and Webconsole..
If these reseans are responsible it shouldnt work at all and not the sometimes it does and sometimes it dont

  • Safari is repeatedly crashing and web pages are not responding

So, my safari is constantly freezing (the spinning wheel of death shows up) and then I'm told that the web-pages are not responding and I need to force reload them all. And this can repeat a number of times; a full system re-start is the only fix.
Any fixes, solutions would be appreciated.
    I'm using Safari 5.1.9; and Mac OS X 10.6.8

MIght be third party plugins causing Safari to freeze.
Try the troubleshooting help here >  Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
And see if you can do this before Safari freezes.
Launch Safari and immediately press Command ,  (comma) to open the Safari Preferences pane then select the Extentions tab.
If there are any extensions installed, turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If Safari doesn't freeze, uninstall one extension at a time, quit and relaunch Safari to test again.

  • My MacBook pro will not startup.  I get a blank grey screen no logo appears so I can't chooseadiffer t drive nor boot from DVD.  Safe mode and verbose mode also don't change blank screen.

It was running slow with the colored spining appearing often.  This started happening weeks ago with Yosemite so I formatted the disk with the DVDs that came with the mid 2011 MacBook pro, 10.6.8.  I then installed Yosemite on an external drive and this morning i was booted from the external hd with Yosemite and it stopped recognizong mouse clicks so I forced a restart and now I'm stuck with the blank grey screen.  Safe mode and verbose mode also do not work.

    Lao Bo,
yes, you can locate and copy a file from your HD to a USB key using UNIX commands. If you know the exact name of the file which you’re trying to locate, try this:
    find / -iname filename -print
This command will search your entire internal disk for the particular filename. If you know that it’s within a particular user account, then you can save search time with this variation:
    find /Users/username -iname filename -print
Either variation of this command will print all files found which have the given filename. Presuming that you’re able to identify the correct file, you can copy it to a USB key using the command
    cp -p filename_returned_by_find /Volumes/USB_volume
If you’re not sure which volume name your USB key has, this command will show you what the possibilities are:
    ls /Volumes
Please let me know if you have any trouble with these commands.

    Try:

    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Every time I open Firefox or open a page in a new tab, I get the error message that a script on this page is not responding or has quit working. This has only happened since I upgraded to 5.0.

Even when I start firefox I have to sit here and wait for it to tell me a script on this page is not responding or has quit working. Once that happens which takes a while, I can say stop script and it moves on. I've always liked using firefox and have never had a problem in the past, however if I can't get this particular problem fixed, and I've tried many ways to do this, I may have to change to another browser. I would hope that you could find out why this is happening to me before I make that decision. One other thing, I am using the dreaded Vista OS.

Try the Firefox SafeMode. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    # You can open the Firefox 4.0 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    # Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

  • Hi, After I try to load either an existing or new project in Adobe Premier Elements 9 I just get a blank grey screen with none of the timeline, etc. boxes on view. This has suddenly happened, one day OK next not! At the top of the screen I get the normal

Hi, After I try to load either an existing or new project in Adobe Premier Elements 9 I just get a blank grey screen with none of the timeline, etc. boxes on view. This has suddenly happened, one day OK next not! At the top of the screen I get the normal Pre icon, File, Edit, Clip, etc.
I am planning on purchasing Premier Elements 13, would it be better if I bought a new program rather than download an upgrade, just in case the upgrade doesn't load properly due to the error with my existing program?
If I the deleted Premier Elements 9 on my PC would I lose all my existing videos that were produced using Premier Elements 9 or would they be saved so that they can still be worked on in Premier Elements 13?
Does Premier Elements 13 work with Windows 7?
    Thanks
    Terry

Premiere Elements 13 absolutely works with Windows 7!
In fact, I'd highly recommend you download the free trial and give it a test run.
Meantime, go to Windows Update and make sure you have all of the latest Windows updates, including those that don't install automatically. Then go to the nVidia or ATI site and ensure you have the latest driver for your graphics card, and go to Apple.com and ensure you have the latest version of Quicktime, per the program's requirements.

  • Safari has become unusable-it freezes, links are unclickable, then I get Web pages are not responding...

Safari has become unusable—it freezes, links are unclickable, then I get "Web pages are not responding..."
Safari has been my favorite browser for a long time. Nothing against the others but I have found it faster and better. Now I can really no longer use it. This has been going on and getting worse for atr least  few weeks. Anyone know why?

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
If any extensions are installed, disable them and test.

  • Error "web pages are not responding"

What is the cause of this Safari error?  What needs to be done to prevent it?
"Web pages are not responding. To reload this webpage, all pages in other tabs and windows must also be force reloaded. Do you want to reload this page?
Force reloading might cause you to loose information you have entered"
Several threads reference it when it occurs after performing various kinds of actions, and the author's ascribe it to their particular operation, but obviously it is a more general error.

    > look under "User Diagnostic Reports"
No entrys exist in that area.  Looks like the system cleaned itself up earlier today:
11/11/11 1:06:49 PM          SubmitDiagInfo[3887]          Cleaning up expired diagnostic messages database at path: /var/log/DiagnosticMessages/2011.10.12.asl
Using OSX 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1.1
After posting my message I performed the latest Software Update.
But my question is also general -- what are the causes of this error?  I have read assertions that it relates to the newest Flash Plugin, or Java, etc. but I would like an authoritative explanation.  How can something cause ALL tabs to need to be reloaded?  Is it caused by something on a web page, or by something internal like the cache getting too large or corrupted or what?
This error is associated with extremely high % of CPU time being taken up by Safari Web Content.

  • Web pages are not responding

I often get the message that "web pages are not responding".  Safari seems to slow down to a crawl, I've reset Safari and emptied the caches, t may get better for a few minutes but then returns it's slow down. Someone said to quit safari and then trash Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/ folder. That doesn't seem to help. Does anyone have any suggestions how to solve this annoying problem?

Read this whole message before doing anything.
    Back up all data.
Quit Safari if it’s running. Then select
     ▹ Force Quit…
from the menu bar. A small window will open with a list of running applications. Safari may appear in that list, even though you quit it. If so, select it and press return. Close the window.
    Step 1
In the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-A to open the Applications folder. Select the Safari icon in that folder and press the key combination command-I to open the Info window. There’s a checkbox in the Info window labeled Open in 32-bit mode. Uncheck it, if checked. Close the Info window and the Applications folder.
If Adobe Flash Player is installed, select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.
Hold down the option key and select
    Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Delete the following items from the Library folder (some may not exist):
    Caches/com.apple.Safari
    Caches/com.apple.WebKit.PluginProcess
    Caches/Metadata/Safari
    Preferences/com.apple.WebKit.PluginHost.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.WebKit.PluginProcess.plist
    Saved Application State/com.apple.Safari.savedState
Leave the Library folder open. Try Safari again. If it works now, stop here. Close the Library folder. If you still have problems, continue.
    Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
    rm -fr $TMPDIR../C/com.apple.Safari
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Quit Safari again. Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal. Launch Safari and test.
    Step 3
If Safari still doesn’t work right, quit, go back to the Finder and move the following items from the open Library folder to the Desktop (some may not exist):
    Cookies/Cookies.binarycookies
    Internet Plug-Ins
    Preferences/com.apple.Safari.LSSharedFileList.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.WebFoundation.plist
    PubSub/Database
    Safari
(Note: you are not moving the Safari application. You’re moving a folder named “Safari.”)
Try again. This time Safari should perform normally, but your settings and bookmarks will be lost. The default set of bookmarks will be restored. Delete them all.
If the issue is still not resolved, quit Safari again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were, overwriting the newer ones that may have been created in their place. You don’t need to replace the files you deleted in step 1. Stop here and post again.
If Safari is now working normally (apart from the lost settings), look inside the “Safari” folder on the Desktop for a file named “Bookmarks.plist”. Select
    File ▹ Import Bookmarks
from the Safari menu bar. Import from that file. Recreate the rest of your Safari settings. You can then delete the items you moved to the Desktop.
Note: This step will remove your Safari Extensions, if any, and their settings. If you choose to restore them, do so one at a time, testing after each step to make sure you haven’t restored the problem.
If you don’t like the results of step 3, you can undo it completely by quitting Safari and restoring the items you moved or deleted in that step from your backup, overwriting any that were created in their place.
