Pages just deleted!! Help!

I have a large document, 78 pages, that I have been working on. All of a sudden, I scrolled to the end and many of my pages are now blank. The page is still there but all of my work is deleted. I did a "save as" of the document, closed it, and opened my original and the pages are still blank. I have no idea what happened. It is about 1/3 of my pages, randomly thoughout the document, but mostly at the end. Any ideas? Any way to restore my document to the one I had 30 minutes ago??

why do files get corrupt?
I would answer somewhat differently than Peter. While it's true that neutrinos or random subatomic particles can cause corruption, that path is extremely rare, and there are mechanisms that try to detect those bit-errors (checksums).
The primary cause of corruption is software bugs. Somehow the document acquires some state that doesn't make sense. For instance, say, paragraph is supposed to have 200 characters but really only has 100, so in reading the 200 characters for the paragraph InDesign reads the next paragraph as well and everything is off-by-one (this is a contrived example and not really how it works).
These bugs typically arise when a programmer has screwed up and didn't realize the effect some unanticipated case can produce. Sometimes the effects are visible to us, sometimes they aren't. Sometimes one little damaged piece will cause other assumptions to fail and a document to get further damaged. Sometimes the damage may be isolated and not affect anything.
You yourself encountered one:
I got an error message that said indesign isn't working and needs to shut down.
This is InDesign detecting something is inconsistent. If you poke around at the ProtectiveShutdownLog (see http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/329/329853.html), you can find out why it thought so -- or a one-line potentially-inscrutable summary thereof, maybe.
What do I need to do to make sure this doesn't happen again?
Well, Peter's certainly right that you should keep backups.
The other thing, of course, is to try to keep careful track of anything you do that causes a clear manifestation of a bug, and to document them and report such bugs to Adobe and get them fixed (at http://adobe.com/go/support or http://adobe.com/go/wish). This is, of course, fairly challenging, and to some extent a problem that does not scale easily. Still, if everyone did it, especially for bugs of the reproducible variety, it would be much better for everyone. This is true of all software, of course.

    You need to restore the folder using the (Put back) selection (CTRL click).

  • TouchUp Reading Order tool moves or just deletes page content!?

    Using Acrobat X to make documents 508 compliant. I've had a number of issues when trying to tag a figure, it ends up moving the figure to a different page or deleting it altogether. Also I've has issues when trying to adjust the reading order, content is moved or deleted.
    How can adjusting structure completely delete content? Really bad bug. Is anyone else seeing this? Thanks.

    My structure in the tags panel is ordered correctly, and the document exported from inDesign is tagged and ordered correctly. However, when I look at the reading order tab the reading order is wrong. I need to use the reading order tab to reorganize the order in which items are read by screen readers (this is as according to Adobe training, e.g. http://tv.adobe.com/watch/accessibility-adobe/preparing-indesign-files-for-accessibility/). Is there another tool that will allow me to organize the reading/tab order (without deleting some of the content in my tables)?
    I am also having the additional problem that sometimes, not always, when I use the reading order panel to reorganize reading order, my tables lose their tagging as tables - I am worried that this will mean screen readers will not recognize the data as a table and will not read it accordingly (by header cell and then content cell).
    Can you provide any help?

    The instructions in HT4236 are as follows:
    To delete synced photos and videos
    In iTunes, select the device icon in the Devices list on the left. Click the Photos tab in the resulting window.

    On a Windows PC, choose Photoshop Album or Photoshop Elements from the pop-up menu.

    No where does it say anything about a "photo pop up option". When you click on your device icon a panel with many tabs appears. One of these tabs is "Photos". You are supposed to click on the "Photos" tab.

    Clear Safari and Restart your iPad. Deleting the history isn't absolutely essential, but delete the cookies and data.
    Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

    My iphone 4 version 5.0.1 has just deleted all my contacts without any explanation. Suddently my girlfriend called and I could only see her number, not her name.
    I went to contacts and there was nobody in there!!! Even more, there are also no contacts on my ipad mini!!!! That's weird. What's happening?
    I have gone to www.icloud.com and although there are some contacts, contacts are not synced with the latest updates, I also don't know why.
    The most important thing in a phone are its contacts! I thought that apple was providing a complete backup solution, but I am afraid it is not reliable.
    What can I do? What can Apple offer to me?
    Is there a way of restoring an icloud copy directly from the iphone? I have thought on restoring and updating to ios7 and ask for icloud to put my backup copy of today in the morning, but it is possible that icloud does another copy and rewrites the 7am working copy. I have disconnected wifi in order to avoid a copy on icloud without contacts.

    Hi Jordi,
    I have the exact same problem and judging by the other posts we are not alone. The one thing that seems to be lacking is any official word or support from Apple - a "bury the head in teh sand" strategy appears to be the chosen response from one of the worlds biggest brands.
    I took it to my Apple store and they were about as much use as chocolate over gloves and told me "this can happen sometimes"???? Seriously, this from an Apple Genius!!??!?!?
    I have not had any joy with iCloud back up so I'm afraid I cant offer any help.
    I will be going to Twitter and Facebook to try to get some action from Apple so I suggest we all do the same and create a noise that Apple cannot ignore....

    Launch the Console application by entering the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search, and look under "User Diagnostic Reports" for crash logs related to Safari. Select the most recent one and post the contents -- the text, please, not a screenshot.

    I have created Administrator -approved Infopath form template to my site and activated same template in CA.
    I have used this template in one of my Form library and i can able to submit the Form with success to the library.
    when i click "View Item" or "Edit Item" of the form it throws , "One or more field types are not installed properly. Go to the list settings page to delete these fields." error message.

    Hello,
    Is there any other content type on library or check if there is any duplicate column? Could you please also show us your library columns detail? (pic is also fine of lib settings page)
    If you have any ""Property Promotion" column then SP create those columns as site column and associate them with this template so check "Allow management of content types" for that form library as well.

    Firefox 3.6 on Mac - I update as available and last version installed about November. Week before Xmas it just stopped retrieving pages - just says "done" in the message bar but no page. I downloaded latest version to reinstall but it refused to install over the old copy: message said "item XUL in use". I trashed the app file and reinstalled from the new installer, same problem. Trashed the prefs file - now when I try to open firefox the message says "a copy of firefox already open". Have rebooted and tried again but same message. Safari isn't that bad but I like firefox. Help!

    You may have  moved or removed content on your page or  its possible you  used the"Adjust Image" and over sharpeed one or more images.
    I assume  you mean it does not show up of new Chapter pages... have you checked the  template?
    Where you see the  ?    you  need to either reduce teh  box outline size - or drop anther  copy of the original image onto  it, it may  fill the  ? box or sit on top.... delete the ? box.
    If its Chapter page only related, its  better doing this in the template.
    Is you image .jpg or .png?

    Hi,
    I think the issue is related to the internal name of the Expiration Day.
    In the caml query code lines, we should use the right internal field name to retrieve and filter the list items.
    To avoid such mistake, we can use the CAML Designer tool to generate the caml query code.

  • When I have my iTunes library on an external drive, but I forget to connect my external drive before opening iTunes, so then iTunes creates a library taking up room on my MacBook Air, can I just delete the iTunes library folder on my MacBook Air?

    So I have a MacBook Air, but it doesn't have a lot of storage inside of it. So I set iTunes to sort all media files (it copies things as I add them and puts them in the iTunes folder) and I set the iTunes folder to my external ntfs drive. This has been working fine, but I find that sometimes iTunes starts adding stuff to the folder on the Air itself. I don't know if this is me adding files to iTunes when the external wasn't connected, or what, but is it OK to just keep deleting that library on the Air? Otherwise it keeps building up multiple GBs. Or will just deleting it do something bad with my lecture videos and music when I sync an iOS device? I'm really worried about doing something wrong with my large collection and have iTunes delete it or not sync with my iOS device and I won't be able to figure out how to set everything up again.
    Also, should I format my drive to HFS+ rather than ntfs? The ntfs hasn't seem to be causing any problems, but I've always wanted to know. I keep everything on my external and sometimes it needs to interact with friends computers or school computers.

    The ntfs hasn't seem to be causing any problems, but I've always wanted to know.
    in order for your Mac to write to NTFS drives, it needs some help by installing e.g. the NTFS 3G driver. apparently that or something similar is installed on your Mac already. preferably, it would be formatted for Mac but then windows machines would need to have e.g. MacDrive installed to recognize the drive.
