Pages keeps crashing!

Question

If I have edited a document then come out to the start screen in Pages (where it shows all the documents) my app will often crash. I then close it and reopen it and everything I've done in the past 5-10 minutes is gone. It has happened with various documents so I am quite sure it isn't a corrupt document. It's annoying as my university work is done on Pages and it keeps losing half my files. Please help!

One problem that's been mentioned several times regarding Pages crashing (especially when printing) has to do with a footnote that hasn't been completely deleted.
If you've deleted the text of the footnote itself, including the footnote mark character, but the reference in the main text still exists, then you may be running into this problem.
You might try manually looking for a stray footnote in the main text, then deleting it. Unfortunately, there's no straightforward way to use Pages' find feature to search for footnotes.
Here's a workaround:
At some obvious, easy to spot location (like the very start of the document) insert another footnote.
Select it, then use Use Selection for Find, ⌘E to designate the footnote character as the search text.
Find Next, ⌘G to find the next footnote. If you double-click the footnote reference, it will take you to the footnote itself. If the footnote has a valid footnote mark (e.g., ²), go back to the main text, and click after the footnote reference. Repeat until you find a footnote which doesn't have a proper mark character.
If you find one, select the reference (the footnote character that's in the main text) and delete it. Note that you may have more than one problematic footnote.
