Pages keeps dropping photos

I recently bought pages thinking I could layout a simple photo yearbook for my son's class with it. Everything was fine and after a small learning curve me and two mothers had the book pretty much finished. That was when the problems started happening. One of the mothers after saving and closing her file, on re-opening it found all her photos had been replaced by question marks. After numerous hours with mac support (here in Hong Kong) no solution was found. So she rebuilt her pages and after about six pages it happened again. This time half the pages showed photos and some only showed some photos. Again mac support no help and rebuild. This time she rebuilt page by page and then exported to pdf. That worked but through the whole process we ended up losing about 3 days. Finally the book goes to the printer and again four pages of the 60 page book (which all have been exported to pdf) are missing photos. This time they are from the pages I created. I open the originals and I can see the photos but then I look at the thumbnails and they show empty boxes with question marks in them. I am completely confused!!!!!! I have tried to rebuild the pages but either get the boxes with question marks or get can not import photo because they are corrupt (just for you information I am importing via iphoto). Can anyone please help. I am seriously about to burn this program (ie pour copious amounts of kersone on the disk and light it on fire). It has caused us endless headaches and no one seems to know what the problem is.

Were the photographs placed from files or from your media inspector using iphoto?
Were they from a shared iphoto library, by chance?
If we can track down where they originated from, we may be able to determine where they went.

I use iWork Pages '09 to create my images. I normally drag and drop photos from iPhoto directly to Pages.
With iPhoto 9.4.3 I now get an error: " The media can't be used because you don't have access privileges or because it has no content or is corrupt". This doesn't happen with every photo from the same event and doesn't get corrected after running 'Repar Permissions'. I can Export to desktop then drag to Pages but that is stupid. What's up???

This looks like previews of some of your photos are missing or corrupted. Did you run a cleaning application, like "clean my mac" or move your iPhoto Library? Where do you store your iPhoto Library?
I'd try to repair the database or rebuild the iPhoto Library in addition to repairing permissions with the iPhoto Library First Aid Tools. Launch iPhoto with the command and options-key ⌥⌘ held down at the same time to get to the First Aid Tools.
Back up the iPhoto Library before you try rebuilding.

Re wifi:
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)

    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

Drag drop photo import to aperture folder why auto new project folder appear .

i do import photos from desktop to folder that i want in the aperture libary . as soon as i drag and drop photos automatically new peoject folder appear in the libabry as name untitled project.. why? i dont want that new project folder. i try to delete that folder and my picture all automatically deleted from library.
also if i try to delete photos from preject folder .. it completely deleted from master library .. picture will be lost.. why?
i drag and move pictures to brand new album or folder .. then try to delete wanted project folder - master picture are all gone.
now i have at least 30-40 of untitled project folder in the library ... pictrure are not movable i meant you can move but u still have to keep old project folder to avoid master picture can not be deleted ...
someone help me? did i make myself clear?

You might read the manual or the Help as this is all covered there.
If you want to import to a specific project use the File -> Import option. You can select your destination there.
Every photo in a Library is in a project. Projects are the basic building block of the Library. That's why.
Folders don't contain photos. They can contain Projects or Albums. These contain photos. Albums don't contain the actual photos, just links to them. So if you add a photo to an Album and then delete the project... you delete the photo.
Remember: you don't move photos to an Album, you add them.

My mac mini keeps dropping wifi connectivity

Hi Folks,
My new Mini keeps dropping wifi connectivity so I lose the connection to Apple TV and even just browsing on Safari seems painful hoping a page will load before losing connectivity. I reset my router, restart the mini and it intermittently keeps happening. Has anyone come up with a workable solution?

System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

HT4623 I lost my apps and iTunes after a restore, but it says there isn't enough space on the iPhone 4. How do I know how much space needs to be freed up? I keep deleting photos and videos, but I'm still getting the same message.

I did an iphone 4 software update. It then asked me to do a "restore" in order for me to be able to use the latest iTunes. I did a "restore" to "factory settings" (this was the only option listed) thinking I'd be able to sync later and get everything back and ended up losing all my purchased apps and iTunes. When I open iTunes, "Welcome to your new iphone" and it says I can re-do the "restore" and choose my lastest update. I assume this will give me back my apps and iTunes. When i choose to do this, it says there isn't enough space on the iPhone. How do I know how much space needs to be freed up? Thanks but I think it has something to do with the 'restore'. in the newest iTunes 11, when I click on the tab "iphone", it redirects me to the "welcome to your new iphone" page and asks about doing a 'restore'. I already did a 'restore', but it went to the original factory settings and I want to 'restore' to my lastest back up as of April 12. When I choose that option, it says my iphone doesn't have enough space. I don't know how much I need to delete in order to make it work. I've deleted lots, but it only has 4.1 GB available. I'm not sure why this isn't enough to do a 'restore'. I don't want to delete all my photos and videos, but maybe I will have to?...7.7GB is used up for that. I can't sync or do ANYTHING...

Looking for a way to move entire pages from one photo book into another photo book.

I haven't found out how to move pages from one photo book into another. Surely this is possible?
Also on the subject of photo books: it seems that it is not possible to enlarge the size of a text box. Or has anyone found a way to accomodate more than 1 line of text on a photo book page?

You can look through some of the different Layouts available.
Select your page.
Click the "Layout" icon on the lower right hand of the application window.
Above it will appear a "BACKGROUND" section and a "LAYOUT" section.
Immediately below the "LAYOUT" is a drop down menu which will show you all the different options.

Can't drag & drop photos

I can't drag and drop about half my library from iPhoto into Pages or Keynote (I get the "springback" action). I've tried using the Media navigator or going directly from the iPhoto window. Dragging those same pics into iMovie or iTunes works fine. No rationale for why some do some don't transfer. Pics from same roll/sequence differ. One "workaround" is if I edit (crop, whatever) in iPhoto, it then usually ebables the pic to be transferred. I've tried disabling and reenabling fonts to no avail.

Thanks for your replies, TD. They are ordinary albums. I haven't made any smart albums yet. It's strange, sometimes when I'm trying to relocate a photo I'll see the cursor flash in another place on the page and the photo will migrate there. Sometimes there are no cursors at all.

Is there a way to create photo page without the larger photo?

I wonder if you can use a photo template page to drop your photos into and then just leave off the slideshow button. I wonder if that will disable the click to enlarge photo function or if it just affects the slideshow stuff.
Otherwise, you could manually make your thumbnails page...like a contact sheet.
1. Use something like iPhoto to export photos scaled down to thumbnail size, like 100x133, into a folder on the desktop
2. Drag and drop thumbnails from this folder into iWeb using blank template page.
3. select all the thumbnails, open up the Inspector ruler tab, click on "Use orignal size".
4. Arrange thumbnails in desired order and position on page.
This is a complete manual job. I don't know if there is any other way besides disabling the slideshow function. I would probably live with the "click to enlarge" function over making a contact sheet by hand.

Keeping Imported photos in a slideshow in order

How do you keep the photos I manually import into a slideshow, in the order that I imported them? I have many photos from several locations from several cameras, and when I add them a slide show in the order that I want them, when I go back through the images they are in a different order. How can you get Aperture to NOT change the order of the images? I know you can move them afterwards but I'd prefer not to do the same thing twice.

Thank you. This works, although you can't choose manual until you actually start a slide show and you move something. So it's best to know your first few slides and move one somewhere and then back again before you seeriously start on importing photos into the slide show Then you can choose manual from the drop down list.

Problems with my new phone (wi-fi, all cell reception keep dropping out)

I recently brought my apple iPhone 3GS (last 2 weeks) and pretty much since day 1 I've the same problem. The phone network I have keeps dropping out for no reason at all, wi-fi connection too (I maintain little or no coverage, but as I've taken the sim card back to the company for inspection, they've said the sim is fine and I shouldnt be having this problem) any ideas on how to resolve this issue???

I'm afraid i'm not familiar with mHotspot but it sounds like it's not providing correct DNS settings over DHCP and that you need to enter them manually in the phone. You can do this under Settings -> WiFi -> [tap and hold the network] -> Modify network -> Show advanced options -> IP settings -> Static. But for information on what settings you should use you need to check with the support for mHotspot. I suspect you should either use the DNS from your ISP or enter the IP of the virtual interface created my mHotspot.

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

How Do I Keep My Photos on an external drive?

I was using an external drive to store my iPhoto Library. When I clicked it to convert it to the Photo app, I started seeing my laptop's hard drive space slowly ticking down. I had no option to keep my photos on my external drive, it seemed they where transferring over to my computer. I don't see where they are saved on my laptops hard drive either? Any recommendations how I can convert my library without bogging down my laptop?
(I won't save them on the Cloud because I have a TON of photos and it will fill that up too)

My iPhoto library was on an external drive. I just dragged and dropped that library onto Photos and Photos then made its own library on the same external drive. Photos does not convert your iPhoto library but makes a whole new library with all your photos. You end up with both libraries and, if drive space is an issue, you may need to trash and empty trash the old iPhoto library.
