Pages Locking Up during long periods of use.

I have had this problem a couple times before and have re-installed the app to no avail.
When I run pages for long periods of time it begins to slow down, lockup, and I evenually lose my document. I can run 6 or 7 apps at the same time, but when I start pages, my CPU use spikes, real RSIZE and VSIZE grow until it simply locks up. I have lost several hours of work as a result. I thought the update would resolve it but has not.
Does anyone have any suggestions or have had similar issues and founf a resolution?

In addition to saving periodically, try closing and reopening your document. Like most Cocoa applications, Pages remembers undo information until a document is closed. This might contribute to the memory usage growing and growing.

  • ASCII closes COM port randomly during long periods of unsolicited response monitoring

I have lots of serial ASCII objects monitoring for unsolicited responses (every two seconds, from 20 different COM ports).  Randomly, sometimes a few times a day, sometimes no problem for 2-3 days....but the ASCII object somehow lets the COM ports close or it loses contact with the COM port occasionally.  All I have to do is go into edit mode and "touch" the properties....such as changing the "Retry Attempts" setting and the communication returns.
There are no alarms logged when this happens!

    Ryan,
I currently use 6 Ascii objects from 6 ports and plan to use 2 more.  Unsolicited data arrives every two minutes (as measured by the sending end).  I have a button on the panel for each object that I can press to send a request to the sending end.  Each of the senders connects to a digi portserver II and is delivered to lookout via an ethernet connection (as a virtual com port).  The ethernet connection is routed over various paths including micowave, which could have an occasional traffic interupting fade. One or more of the Ascii objects may fail to respond at any time, but several days may pass without a problem.  When a failure is noticed, you can usually select the properties for that object and the problem clears.  If instead, you send a request to any of the other Ascii objects , Lookout may just hang (permanet hour glass).   When a failure is noticed, if Lookout is then turned off and the offending port is monitored with hyperterminal, the data from the sending port is on time and correctly formatted.  The help file has a section "Ascii alarm and error messages" with a section named "Early temination when parsing the response frame".  There are a bunch of reasons listed there as to why the Ascii object might not function properly.  I've tried everything that I can think of to make this work reliably.  Any ideas?  See the link for response format information. http://jrcamenzind.googlepages.com/lookout

    Hi Buterem,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your MacBook Pro since your recent Yosemite update. I also apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing. If you are having intermittent but persistent responsiveness issues with your mouse or trackpad, you may want to try using Activity Monitor to see if these incidents correspond to occupied system resources, especially system memory or CPU. You may find the following article helpful:
How to use Activity Monitor - Apple Support
If the entire system hangs or locks up (for example, if the system clock freezes and stops counting up), you may also be experiencing some variety of Kernel Panic. If that is the case, you may also find this article useful:

  • RMI Hang after long period of no use

Occaisonally one of our lightly used RMI servers decides to not accept a new connection. This happens after a long period of no use. The last time it happened I captured a thread dump (THREAD DUMP#1) of the RMI server process.
Just for comparison I then started another client and tried to connect again. See THREAD DUMP#2.
Any suggestions where I should start looking in my code? I have checked the Java bugs database without success.
    Thanks.

According to this thread dump the remote object is
quite prepared to accept a new connection (waiting in
PlainSocketImpl.accept()) but some other remote method
implementation is blocked reading the RMI header.
Perhaps this is the one that is stalling? You may need
to check for too much synchronization, i.e. possible
deadlocks, in your remote method implementations.I do have a limited amount of synchronization in my server side code (too much code to post here) but if my code is deadlocking then won't I see my method(s) in the stack trace? None of my remote methods are synchronized, just some of the server side methods they call. Also, if my code is deadlocking won't this tend to happen during busy periods rather than slack periods?
I have reviewed my code for synchronization deadlock potential but the logon code only ever locks one object.
Could you tell me the difference between "waiting for condition" and "waiting for monitor"? I assume the "waiting for monitor" means the thread waiting get the lock on an object.
    Thanks for your suggestions.
By the way, I forgot to mention in my original post that I'm running Java 1.4.2_05.

This method updates the infotype 2002 (Attendances). This works fine for the whole month except during the  payroll run which will be for 3-4 days after 20th of every month.
We have maintained the exception for this when the control record is in the status '1' or '4', by passing a temporary error to the workflow.
    SELECT SINGLE * FROM t569v WHERE abkrs = 'Z0'.
    IF sy-subrc EQ 0 AND ( t569v-state EQ '1' OR
                           t569v-state EQ '4' ).
return-message_v1 = 'Employee Master data locked for Payroll'.
      exit_return 1001 return-message_v1 return-message_v2
                       return-message_v3 return-message_v4.
As i understand the workflows can be restarted after solving the temporary errors. But this Temp error will only be solved after the payroll record is becomes 'Exit Payroll'.
The system attempts for 3 times in the period of 30 minutes and then the tempoarry error becomes a permanent error and this way the workflows goes into a permanent error which cannot be restarted even after the payroll is exit.Due to this may workflows are unable to update the Infotyp 2002 however their trips are approved at all levels.
This counter of 3 times and 30 minutes, I belive the system is taking from the error monitoring program (RSWWERRE / SWWERRE) in SWU3.
I am thinking of putting the workflow into 'Wait' state till the period when the Payroll is locked. This way , we can avoid the workflow even from going into temporary error.
Can anyone help in this regard ? Do we need to add a WAIT step in the WF Definition or control in the method code itself ?
Does WAIT UNTIL (ABAP Keyword) works for 3-4 days of payroll run if we implement in the method code itself?

    Hi Sameer,
But , Can you pls put some more information on why we need to avoid WAIT UNTIL in Tthe ABAP ?
Wait Steps are only used where you have 1 event which the workflow would expect ...moreover this would require more effort in terms of implementation...( you will have to create an event manually after your payroll is open).
I would suggest create an virtual attrubute of the BO  which will populate a whetherr the Payroll is locked or unlocked... then use this attribute as a start condition in the conditions tab of your step. this would stop the workflow until the payrol is open...

  • Hello. How can I make it so firefox remembers which links I've visited as on the music singles pages for longer periods of time and more links?

I frequently use the singles pages on wikipedia, for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:2012_singles&from=D
So I had already clicked on the links some months ago on the 2012 singles pages, but firefox forgot that I had clicked on the links there. How can I make it so it remembers for longer periods of time without causing problems to firefox? Also, I want it to remember what links I've clicked on the 2013 singles pages, because I am also keeping up with that. Can I tell firefox to remember all history for these pages, such as 2012 singles, or 2013 singles specifically? I just want firefox to remember what links I've visited, as in, the songs in the 2012/2013 singles pages, and not forget those, because I have already downloaded those so I want firefox to keep track. What are my options? Please let me know, and I hope you understand the problem I am describing.

My Firefox remembers history from over a year ago, and unless you are using a setting or external tool to clear it, or load huge numbers of pages/download huge numbers of files, Firefox should pretty easily remember links you've accessed in recent months.
To see what Firefox has computed as the number of URLs to remember, you can check here:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''.hist''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Look for '''places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages'''
Mine's set to 104858. I don't know how that was determined.

You should be able to use the battery if you get a car type charger which recharges mobile devices.
The full size iPads use a 10-12W charger, whereas the mini uses a 5W charger. Many car chargers only supply 5W. But at 5W, the car charger should give you some extra time on your iPad. It would be best to use a 10-12W car charger.

Discharge it to around 50-60% then completely shut it off. Store at around room temperature. When you return connect the charger and let the battery fully charge.

Can you fix , the fact that If you leave the firefox UPDATE window open for a long period (say 20 minutes in the background), then close all other windows, then choose to download update, it uses this extra time to estimate the download? (Mine said, 12 Hours to start with, but took under 2 minutes!)
    == This happened ==
    Not sure how often
== When you install update to 3.6.4 (Possibly for every update?)

The download should happen in the background (before you get an update window). I wonder why that didn't happen for you...\
Did you manually check for updates?

  • My iphone4 keeps shutting off on its own every 24-36 hours and I can't switch it back on unless I plug it into the charger n charge it. I didn't charge the iPhone for a long period the first time I used it and I charge it every night for at least 7 hours.

My iPhone 4 shuts down automatically and I can't turn it back on unless I plug it into charger and charge it. This happens spontaneously. I didn't charge it for a long time before using it for the first time and I charge it nightly for at least 7 hours. What is the problem?

  • IPhone locks up during update/sync

I have synched my prior iPhone for several months so everything was set up fine, but it no longer will allow downloads. Last week, I tried to download the update for iPhone, and it locked up. When I disconnected, the iPhone was ruined, would only accept a download, but then would not complete the download. I got a new iPhone. Now, I have reloaded from a backup, I have the latest version of iTunes, and when I tried to download the latest iPhone update FIVE hours ago, it looked like it was working, but iTunes and the phone are stuck in "Updating iPhone Software." I will have to disconnect again; I cannot stay connected indefinitely. The telephone support is not available (I don't know what their limited hours are), but when I called last Sunday with the same problem, they could only help me redownload iTunes - and that didn't fix my phone. Help!!

I just bought the iPhone and when I brought it home, my phone and computer both locked up during teh software update. I spent an hour on the phone with a very nice lady, but she couldn't help me. She transferred me to a product specialist, and through conversation, we realized that I was the problem. I had my phone plugged into a powered USB hub, and it just would not work that way. I figured that since the hub was 2.0 and was getting power from my outlet, it would be fine. Guess not... As soon as I plugged it directly into my computer USB port and reset everything, it worked fine. I think you said you were using a laptop to sync, so maybe your USB port is just not cutting it. Good luck w/ the fix.
