Will pages import a pdf file created in MS publisher or a native MS publisher template?

    also, if you're using an outside web host like me (so that all my movies will LOAD QUICKLY), don't forget when FTP'ing (file transfer protocol'ing) your iWeb changes to your web host from your original MAC HD folder....remember to also send to the FTP/outside web host your MEDIA folder inside your SITE
    (which i only realized a couple hours ago, and which totally was a revelation, so i'm passing it along to you guys)....
    if you'd like to know exactly what i do here in nyc, i video the poetry scene, now for 20 years, and create educational poetry DVDs.... and my website is today's equivalant of operating a virtual business.....
    ....oh-oh, since I video poetry in NYC and go direct into a standalone DVD recorder to make single tracks of each poem...and then through Popcorn's mp4 program, I can make a movie file
    then..through QuickTime Pro's streaming compression system, reduce that file size to under 5 MBs,
    well, after lots of headaches, i am able to have 200 streaming video clips on an iWeb site, which apple itself said was impossible, that iWeb was only geared for less ambitious projects
    okay, so that is cool..until yesterday, when i began the whole process again with completely new poetry video clips....
    first, the iWeb pages were designed correctly...that took time....then i published the new pages to .mac, and only some of the movies showed up on the published pages, some had a big bright Q (which means the browser identifies the movie and will within 20 seconds load that movie), but what wracked my brain all day and night yesterday, why were there areas where the browser only showed the faint Q/Question mark inside (meaning the browser cannot find the movie)
    so what the.....!
    also i'm going from an iWed Folder to an FTP so I can use an outside web host and bypass THE MUCH SLOWER .mac browser (too slow when using movie clips for visitor to your site having to wait valuable seconds for **** movie to appear...with outside web host process almost immediate)
    .....any similar experiences?

    I am having the same problem.
    Now I am using iWeb 2.03. So when I uploaded the site to my server I see the Media folder you were talking about, and the videos are there. But when I go to the website I still get the faint Q with the question mark.

    The videos are supposed to be in the Athletics page, then go to football highlights.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Variations - how to make page get published automatically ?

    Hello guys,
    I am working with multi-lingual publishing site (English and Arabic).
    I have created Variations and set automatic creation of page of English
    Version to Arabic Version.
    Issue : When English Version Page is created and Published,
    Arabic Version is also created but Arabic Version of page is in checkout mode and it is not published.
    I want to make all arabic versions of the page in publish mode. 
    Is there any configuration or something so all the pages of arabic gets published automatically whenever it gets created ?

  • How to check whether a page is published?

    Hi
         I have a requirement where i need to check a page and print its published date only if the page is published and active. How can i acheive this exactly? What properties in the CRX exactly will tell me if the page is in published state or not?

    Hi Veena,
    On the Publish server you can run the below query to see what Pages where activated during the dateTime range you need. Change the xs:dateTime values based on the date range that you need.
    ====
    /jcr:root/content//*[@jcr:created >= xs:dateTime('2013-04-09T00:00:00.000+02:00') and @jcr:created<= xs:dateTime('2013-04-11T00:00:00.000+02:00') and jcr:primaryType='cq:PageContent']
    ====
    Please note the filter - jcr:rimaryType='cq:PageContent' - in the query. Use this if you only want to check for the pages that got activated. You can remove this filter if you want to check for all content (like images, etc) that got activated.
    The results of this query should give you a list of everything that is currently residing on the Publish within a date range when they were activated.

  • Using pages to publish on Kindle

    I would like to create an ebook on pages and publish it for Kindle on Amazon.  Is is possible to preview the book on my kindle BEFORE I publish?  The amazon site makes it sound like the only way to do this (for Mac users) is to know HTML and use Kindle Gen.  I hope that is not true!

    First of all, I'm starting with regular Kindle.  Not for Kindle Fire yet.  So these are for the basic Kindle that most people have.  Kindle Fire has other options, like the use of color and such that I might take advantage of.  But this book is not printed in color so I didn't utilize color.
    I did not reset my side margins.  I removed the top and bottom margins, setting them to 0 because Kindle defines them, not the document.
    Tiffs are fine BUT are huge in file size.  The image files cannot be huge because they will not load properly and could crash the Kindle.  My book, printed, is 8x10x440 pages with 27 full page b&w images and THOUSANDS of links with 954 anchors.  That's a lot of book.  That's even MORE ebook.  So concession must be made for the sake of the ebook on any non Kindle Fire ebook.  And remember too, that it seems that all the different readers have different specs.  I'm starting with Kindle and working my way out.  It's a major p.i.t.a. in general but not nearly as painful as I thought in Pages.  Actually, Pages simplifies the process a LOT.
    Considering that the images are b&w (mine are to start with) and you know how to convert a color image into a great b&w image in Photoshop by doing more than simply desaturating it (I know how to do that...simply desaturating will turn a color such as red to black so it looks awful.  There is a simple process to convert, but desaturating is not it.) Why use a huge file like a tif for a b&w graphic?  It is simply ego and not common sense.  A gif that is set for 16 shades of grey, dithered and then saved at 300 dpi then resized down will look utterly amazing.  AND and the file size is quite small in comparison to a tiff.  AND a jpg isn't even as clear.  Other images will work...but they weigh down the file.  And my file data, alone is huge.  And the images are simply iimages....for looks not information.  That part is up to the writer.  You experiment.  This is what works for my book.
    I insert the image at 300 dpi, into Pages...it's big.  I resize it manually from there.  Especially for the smaller images like fancy drop caps, that after I look at the document on my Kindle itself, I may want to adjust a bit.  Which is easily done in the original document, rather than having to redo the image, etc.
    I have examined my Kindle ebook by downloading the converted file from KDP and installing it on my Kindle and I fudge around with it from there.  It looks amazing.  the links all work (which is what I was stressing over) and I can't believe it was SOOOO much easier using Pages than other apps that I tried on the Mac and on the PC's (which make me crazy). 
    I've been fortunate to not have to do a lot of fixing in the HTML file that must be downloaded from KDP because the Pages HTML file is pathetic, so I don't even mess with that ever.
    KDP is NOT converting and fixing my formatting.  There is nothing to fix.  The book looked the same when I put the document on my Kindle BEFORE I uploaded it to KDP.  After I loaded it onto KDP.  After I downloaded it as a book from Kindle.  I'm quite impressed.  I'm ready to do my others now.  That was the MOST complex of the books, and the largest.
    The others are novels, poetry.  Such and such.  But the real challenge with Kindle now, and I will also publish it on iPad, etc. will be a young child's book that is in color, will have media and all that for Kindle Fire and other such devices.  I have yet to take on that challenge.  It's an entirely different animal. 
    When I was first starting my project (back when I had began it in Appleworks and then moved it to Pages midway) I was reading all the negativity and began to panic.  I almost bought Word.  But then I experimented with Word on one of the kid's PC's and it was so complicated and I thought this isn't going to be any better.  I tried NeoOffice and it could not handle the size of my document with all it's links.  I tried some other wp program Abi something or another and it was so slow with such a large document it could barely scroll to the bottom of a page.  Taking it up into Calibre was a joke.  Etc., etc. 
    I am still using Pages 1 for crying out loud!  My computer is so obsolete and my memory is limited.  I need a new machine badly.  But it was all handled quite well. 
    The one big problem that I had with this particular document is that because my memory is so low, I have 768MB of Ram (which is laughable) and cannot add more because I have a Powerbook 13" and it cannot go up more than that.  I could not export into a PDF file for Create Space.  I freAKeD!  I called Create Space and they told me to download their template, which is a Word template and use that.  So I did.  I downloaded their template, opened it in Pages, copy pasted my entire book into it from my original Pages document and then if you cannot, for any reason, convert to a PDF you simply upload THAT document made in the template to Create Space and it automatically converts to a PDF within their system.  Like magic.  Whew!  One really good thing about that template is that it has a TOC box that I used and it worked better than the Pages TOC did.  So I copied pasted that box into other documents and my goto TOC :-D
    You gotta' do whatcha' gotta' do.  Thank goodness there are work arounds when needed.  However, I've found that MANY folks will tell you how to build a clock when you ask for the time.
    This book was an education.  From there on it will be easy.

    According to my understanding, you want users to be redirected to pages in the current site instead of the source page of the search results in a Content Search Web
    Part.
    By default, the hyperlinks of the search results in a Content Search Web Part will point to the source page where the data comes from, when the hyperlink of each result
    is clicked, user will be redirected to the corresponding source page.
    If the data comes from other sites, what page do you want to display when user clicks a search result in the Content Search Web Part?
    Property Mappings can help to control the content of each part of a display template, however, there seems no such property in the search result can help to redirect
    to the pages of the current site, thus, it might not be able to meet your requirement.

    I've done this by dragging files from my user page to her drop box. In Finder, drag the required files and hover over the hard disc icon in the navigation bar on the left. As you hover, it will open another finder window showing the contents. Work your way down these windows into <Her username | Public | Dropbox>. Drop the files into the dropbox. She can then retrieve them from her user page.

  • Too Many Photos? Pages not publishing....

    I have about 120 photos that I imported from iPhoto to iWeb. When I attempted to publish the site it fails. I need all the photos, what can be done?

    Give a try at publishing to a folder on the desktop to see if all pages will publish. If they do then you know it's an issue with access to the iDisk.
    As a work around (if the publish to folder works) you could copy of contents of the folder you published to to the iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb folder and get them published that way until you can get it organized.
    Another way might be to separate each page into a separate domain.sites file with iWebSites and then link them manually with a text based navagation bar at the top. This way you can edit one page at a time and publish only that page.
    I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
    If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process.
    This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want.

    I am trying to create a master page for publishing site. I have downloaded the "StarterBranding - V1.3" from codeplex, and used the "Starter Publishing". Currently it is not showing logo, search box, top navigation, breadcrumbs.

    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to know about the each tags useful in master page.
    In SharePoint 2013 master page, there are some common tags like body tag, head tag and meta tag and some style CSS div tags. For the useful of these tags, I suggest you can refer the articles below:

    In your custom master page, it will have some custom css tags depend on the display style but it is no required for master pages, if you want to know about what tags is required in master page, you can compare the custom master page with the  OOTB master
    page.

  • Contribute thinks page is published but it is not!

    I am new to this software.
    The first time I used it, everything went fine. but now, when I edit a page and publish it, I get the little message saying 'Congratulations! Your page was successfully publsihed!', but in fact the page is not published.
    I've tried viewing the page in both IE and mozilla, and can only view the old, unedited version of the page.
    In the Contribute browser, as soon as the Congratulations message disappears, the page seems to revert back to the un-edited version, and I can only see the edited version when I click on the Edit button.
    Please help, I am fairly computer illiterate and I can't figure this one out!

    If this is happenning to one page only then try to create a copy of current page.
    edit it and then publish it.

  • IWeb publishing questions

    Ok first off, when I put files like pictures or video onto my page and publish it, do I still have to keep those files on my computer or will they operate on the site without a problem?
    Also what is the difference between publishing to a folder and publishing to .mac? When I hit the publish button on the bottom left, what does it publish too?

    Once you have published your website, the files are uploaded to the server. There is no need to keep them on your hard disk if you don't want them.
    The publishing button in iWeb is for uploading your site to .Mac. Obviously, you have to have a .Mac account for this to work.
    The "publish to a folder" option is so that you can upload your files to any other server by FTP.

    Hello - I hope someone can help - I'm very new to iWeb ...  After updating a page  - the following image appears on the published site - but I can't see it on the page before publishing ?

    Whatever browser you use, if an image is missing, then it will be missing with all browsers.
    Anyway, this is missing :

  • Question on forcing the style on main page in publisher

    We have announcement portlet created using publisher. We want to provide rich text editor for the text field of the announcement in the create article pop up page.
    The issue we have is font size and color of the text specified by the user using the rich text editor overwrites the styles that are specified in the presentation templates. The question is how to force the font size and color of the text to the style specified on the presentation template. In other words how to overwrite the font size/color which user specifies using the editor to the font size/color which is specified in the presentation template.

    If you do not want users to be able to style the article text at all then you should change that field to be a plain text field instead of rich text. You can change this on the data entry template for the articles themselves.

    Hi All,
    I am also facing new problem while i am going to register template in following environment:
    Oracle applications version: 11.5.10.2
    XML publisher Version: 5.0.0
    My file size: 65 KB with out image
    363 KB with company logo
    The RTF used English language characters and want to register for English – USA
    My RTF template works fine in preview mode in Word. I go to upload it via XML Publisher Adminstator and I get a screen that just says "You have encountered an unexpected error. Please contact the System Administrator for assistance."
    What? The only option is Log out. Is there a way to validate my template to know what could possibly be wrong with it?
    Please let me know if any other information require about RTF template.
