Pages NoGo Fullscreen...

I use pages (from the iWork disk) on both a MacBook and a MacBook Pro. I updated both machines to Lion. Now, the MacBook allows me to go fullscreen via the two arrows in the upper right hand of the window. However, my MacBook Pro does not give me this option. I use Pages a lot, on my MacBook Pro and would love the functionality of swiping back and forth like I would any other fullscreen app. Why would I have the option on one machine but not the other?

It is working for me, so perhaps a restart to see if that helps?
But like many, I am sticking with the old Pages for now.

Ebook is frozen, can only view new pages when fullscreening

So I bought a study guide and I can access all the pages but the problem is that I can't scroll, when i scroll down or up I can see the page number moving but on the screen the same page remains, the only way I change the display page is if I switch between fullscreen and not fullscreen. Can anyone help me please?

There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0 (and 2.0.1).
One of them is that page scrolling sometimes does not work for people.
Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
(You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.

Some people have found ADE trying to upgrade automatically.
It appears (not 100% sure) that if you install ADE2.0 as a new install (not as an upgrade) that your 1.7.2 will continue to run.
Probably best to say no if 2.0.x installation asks if you want to migrate your library.

Favorite new Pages and iWork '09 features?

What do you think, guys?
I will get us started. My favorite new feature is the interface with EndNote, although I have noticed one bug that has to do with formatting Book citations (it won't make the titles italic). I think Pages' iteration of CWYW is much more user-friendly and much more intuitive and workflow friendly than Word's. There is no acknowledgment on Endnote's page that it works with Pages. Did Apple go at this alone? Or did they work with Thomson Research?
The full-screen and outlining features seem to work as advertised and are long overdue. I wish that Apple would have allowed you to changed the background of the page in fullscreen rather than just the gutter.
Has anyone noticed any unadvertised new features? So far, I've noticed that:
1. You can now reduce file size from the File menu which hopefully means there will no longer be 18 MB Pages files using the original images instead of the edited ones,
2. Word count is in the status bar (which is much more intuitive and works much better than word count in the inspector),
3. There's a scroll widget that allows you to designate what you want to scroll through,
4. Export... is gone,
5. You can now insert Auto page numbers and filenames.
Also, in Numbers, you can finally Freeze columns or rows, which should have been included in the 1.0 release.
Anything else?
Overall, I'm very happy with this update. Pages is now only missing a few things for me (split pane and multiple orientations within a document), and those few things are easily done without. I've been using it since Pages 1.0, and it seems that Pages 4.0 finally gets it (mostly) right. Although I said goodbye to Microsoft Word a few years back, with 4.0 I don't even miss it anymore (actually that happened with 3.0). This version of Pages reminds me of Keynote 3.0, when PowerPoint became a distant memory.

In so far as Apple does not provide access to drawing glyph designs with Private Use Area 'characters' supplied by the Adobe Type Library and the Linotype Type Library in so-called OpenType, then the public source character string stays intact in Pages, as it should.
(Unhappy the Word users who have Adobe and Linotype products since the intention of Adobe and Linotype is to 'help' them bastardize their public character strings.)
Meanwhile, in PDF the source characters for anything in the font file that is not directly drawn as a character code - ligature reshaping which is automatic, reshaping which is specified selectively by the user e.g. small capitals - is unsafe for searching.
Obviously, Al Gore interchanges PDF. There are probably not that many people Al Gore might be working with who interchange the source Pages file format. Especially since there seem to be many, many, many users who have had trouble with that.
Perhaps, while on the subject of denial, the problem of PDF, the problem of PDF from PostScript, the problem of Type 1, the problem of 'OpenType' and the general problem of the place of the configurable name space model introduced in PostScript in 1985 is deserving of discussion. Because if you begin by corrupting or clipping your character string, you are left guessing.
At this point, the person who has the contract to develop the PDF/X validation and the PDF/A validation for Adobe is Olaf Drümmer of Callas in Berlin. And the person who provides the patented heuristics for synthesising character strings from glyph identifiers is Thomas Merz of PDFLib in München. This is the technology sold in Adobe Acrobat Professional. The project is applying pressure where pressure should be applied offline and online. And if you want to apply pressure, now you know where.

Preview pdf full screen shows double pages after page 1

How can I get Preview to show single pages in fullscreen mode? It keeps showing the 2nd and 3rd page (and so on) of any pdf side by side on the screen. Single page display in a window works fine, but when swithcing to full screen it always displays it as a two-page layout.

I don't have CS4 but in CS3 I could get the same results as "use software rendering" as when I clicked on "restore down" (middle symbol in upper rt corner of windows screen) even though I enlarged the window to full screen.
In maximize window mode I had several problems with the preview without software rendering, and knew my video card was weak point. I know this is not the same issue but does not cost anything to try it. Don't know why it worked either.

How to close a fullscreen Weboverlay with a MSO

Hi there,
for our Client we've developed a Fullscreen Overlay which replaces the Default Navigation (which works great). But we've the Problem that we can't Close the overlay completley.
We Show the overlay wih a MSO state, which works fine. Underneath in the state, which shows the fullscreen navigiation, is a button which acts as Close... it's purpose is to switch back to the default state with the overlay gone (which works if we disable user interaction on the Navigation overlay). The user should - and surley expects to - click anywhere on a empty Region in the Navigation to Close it again.
But the overlay is blocking the interaction with the underlying Close button in indesign.
We tried also with just an empty page covering Fullscreen - it is also blocking the complete underlying indesign objects from any interaction also the closing button
Javascript interaction with Indesign Obejcts?
Is it possible to call the state object from within the weboverlay with JavaScript? To call a different state in the MSO which disables the Fullscreen overlay and unblocks the indesign objects?

There is no way to communication from JavaScript over to other interactive elements from InDesign such as a MSO.

Why won't pages go full screen

When ever I try to make Pages go fullscreen it wont and the application stops working. I have a Retina MBP with lion and am using Pages 09 version4.2. Does anyone know how to fix this or why it is happening? Thanks. By the way full screen works fine on keynote.

You say that you created your .mp4 (photos and videos) in Windows Movie Maker. However, please verify that since Windows Movie Maker does not appear to offer a .mp4 export choice...they all seem to be .wmv or dv.avi. If you miswrote on this point, the discussion of .mp4 and Premiere Elements becomes a non issue.
(The above seems to be true if you are using the Windows Live Movie Maker instead of Windows Movie Maker, but in the case of Windows Live Movie Maker there is no longer an option for dv.avi, just .wmv.)
When creating a Premiere Elements project for export to file saved to the computer hard drive or burn to disc,
a. Determine the properties of your source media (video and audio compression, frame size, frame rate, file extension, pixel aspect ratio, etc)
b. Set the Premiere Elements project preset (new project dialog) to match the properties of those source media.
c. Check...does my source media fill the space provided in the Edit Mode Monitor for editing purposes.
d. When exporting, if workflow is for 16:9 Widescreen, then be sure to set for a preset for Widescreen burn to or, if workflow is 4:3 standard, then a preset for Standard burn to.
I suspect that your problems are in regard to set up of your project rather than .mp4 versus other wrapper formats.
But let us see by looking at the details revisited.

I cant Fullscreen "IworkPages" on my External

When I hit the fullscreen button on Iworks Pages, it fullscreens back onto my SMALL MACBOOK PRO SCREEN!
How do I get it so i can fullscreen onto my 27" EXTERNAL MONITOR!?

This isn't a notebook forum, but I wonder if you make your 27" to be t he main display it will? of course if that screen is not present...

When i press the green button, it goes to full screen. How can i just go back to it making the screen just a little bigger and not fullscreen?

I recently upgraded to Mavericks and i hate that every time i press the +/green button on the top left, the page goes fullscreen. How can i go back to it just making the window bigger instead of fullscreen.

Hold down Option key and click the Green button. It will change from the Full Screen button back to a Zoom button.
You can also double-click the empty area in the window frame (title bar) if you don’t have it set to minimize when double-clicking.

Connecting a 2nd Palette monitor to iMac

I have an iMac 24" 28Ghz (1Mac,8.1) and want to connect a second palette monitor to the mini DVI port, using a mini DVI to VGA connector.
A search of the forum shows issues with cursor jumping and wrong resolutions.
I really want to run my Adobe CS4 suite with the tabbed palettes on the second monitor to my right.
Is anyone doing this without issues?

Well given the huge response, I figured I'd just go ahead and warn all the vendors that they could have their stuff back promptly if it didn't work as advertised.
I bought a dead cheap 2-for at OfficeWorks. 2 Philips 160EI TFT 40cm monitors, only A$186 for both. I also got an Apple mini-DVI to VGA adaptor which has dropped in price from Apple's previous rip-off rate to A$25.
Installation was quite straight forward although the monitor looks like a dwarf next to the 24" iMac.
I installed under OSX 10.5.8 and then switched to OSX 10.6.3. Under both it was recognised immediately but defaulted for some reason to a non-native resolution, easily fixed.
I didn't need to *color manage,* that's not what it's for, but both Apple's color calibration and the on monitor controls only screwed it up so I went back to the default settings just playing a little bit with the on monitor contrast and color to try and crisp up the Finder text which still seems too soft. Apple's color calibration lead it to be way too dark. The monitor controls way too light, so factory settings is where it stays.
Visually the monitor is a tad unsharp with a visible vertical banding a little like thin corrugation. Colors are pale, about max 70-80% tint to my eye.
I was able to set separate screen backgrounds, so that I could have a pleasing black & white background to my palettes.
I tested several applications running simultaneously along with movies on both monitors. All work flawlessly so far.
I can now run tutorial DVDs on the 2nd monitor whilst keeping the application to which it refers open on the main monitor. Nice!!
*Testing palettes with Adobe CS4:* They cleverly snap to whichever of the 2nd monitors edges they are dragged to and work perfectly even sensing the real estate available on the monitor. I have set them to snap to the inside (left edge of the 2nd monitor, which is to my right). This means that for the first time the optional sub-palettes pop out to the right in reading order.
All remember their position between re-startups. No sign of flickering or any of the problems reported in the forums. That is in both Leopard and Snow Leopard.
Flicking between fullscreen view using the tab keyboard shortcut and the toolbar options has different results. Sometimes the palettes stay with the main screen in full screen view, sometimes they disappear, I'm trying to work out what combination of actions sets off what.
*Testing palettes with iWork:* They have none of Adobe's smarts but can be stacked a little awkwardly to fit. Awkward because Apple hasn't worked out how to sensibly do this and made them different sizes. However they do remember their sizes (sort of) and positions between restarts.
Pages' Outline/Fullscreen view unfortunately blacks out both monitors. I was hoping I could keep my palettes visible on the 2nd.
Overall I am very happy. I worked with 2 monitors for almost 2 decades until Apple made it both expensive and extremely awkward on several occasions. It feels very liberating to have my full workspace clear again.
OSX is one clumsy design for handling windows, despite/because of all Apple's efforts.
There is no substitute for more/separate screen real estate. So far I am one happy camper.

IPad Web App full screen mode Network Connectivity Retry Option

Hi,
I have developed a web application in HTML5 for iPad (full screen mode). Now I am testing the application on iPad for connectivity scenario i.e. to see how the app behaves when the connectivity is lost and then resumed after some time.
Steps -
Launch the web application in full screen mode from home screen (connected to a wifi network).
Click on any button to submit the form and at the same time turn off external wifi modem.
A pop-up message appears with the options to close or retry.
Now turn on the modem and click on retry.
The expectation is that on clicking retry the data in the web form should be sent to the web server, but instead of POST request, a GET request is being sent. Because of this, the data filled in the form is lost as the page is simply refreshed.
Can anyone please help me in resolving this issue.

This is more of a feature of the browser already.
With iOS6, Mobile Safari on the iPhone introduced full-screen browsing support in landscape mode.

One isn't able to take advantage of this feature in portrait mode though. However, the meta tag you're referring to in order to hide Safari UI Components requires the webapp to be added to the Homescreen; then when you launch the site through the icon on the Homescreen, you would find the UI components hidden.
Also, the latest version of Chrome for iOS released a couple of days ago includes the ability to view pages in fullscreen as well (for both landscape and portrait modes) with scrolling gestures enabling the hiding and showing of the omnibox and toolbar while navigating down a page.

How do i enable gestures on my wireless lenovo trackpad

Hi all. I have a Lenovo Wireless Touchpad K5923 that I just picked up for $10. I'm on 10.9.5 with everything working as it should. When I plug in the usb dongle for my multi-finger gesture lenovo trackpad OS X sees it as a keyboard. It works as a mouse, 2 finger scroll, 2 finger tap for right click. It also picks up 3 and 4 finger swipe. 4 finger swipe down in safari pulls up option to save current page to bookmarks, 3 fingers left and right make the cursor jump from word to word in this text i'm currently typing. My point is it is picking up the multi-finger gestures. How do I make this emulate a magic pad? Please, if you're not technical don't reply with "Just buy a magic pad." I don't have the money right now, and even if I did... This is somewhat of a hobby of mine... Making unsupported devices, software etc... work (With the help of the "hacker" community. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

A couple of things I've found (in the five minutes since I got my $10 touchpad too.)
- OS X thinks it's a mouse, so things like tracking speed are controlled by the mouse control panel.
- Mine doesn't support two-finger right click, but it does support right click by clicking on the "R" on the trackpad.
- Mine won't do one or two finger swipes to change pages or fullscreen apps.
- It does do "pinch to zoom" and zooms the whole screen. You might have to turn this on in accessibility.
- Four-finger swipe in Safari does bookmarks like you said.
- "Natural" scrolling is actually inverted.

Domain Cert Badge mixed results.

Hi, i did some guidance regarding my domain certification badge on my website.
I have placed it in the footer of my master page so that it appears on all my pages. I have 3 gallery pages, one fullscreen and two thumbnail slideshows.
The issue is this, in the fullscreen slideshow, when i click the domain certificate badge, my domain certicate is presented in front of the slideshow, but on my thumbnail slide show it appear behind the slideshow. I have tried sending it backwards but it wont allow me too. I have tried changing the position it appears in the layer panel with no luck.
What should happen is that when badge is clicked it appears in front of the slideshow which it does for home page and my fullscreen slideshow but all other pages it behind the page/object. Would appreciate some advise.

Have you tried adding it to a different layer altogether and placing that layer on top of all other layers? Doing so should fix the issue.

How can I make my whole site in fullscreen (API) mode, not just the opening page?

I'm building a site that consists only of static pages, no scrolling, and I want the whole site to be in fullscreen mode. I know it's not good manners on the internet to have a whole site in this mode but it's a site with art and music and I really have a reason to have it this way.
I've been doing a lot of searching and I've got the fullscreen API to work for me, but just on that one particular page. I want it to stay fullscreen even when I go to another page on the site.
Maybe I've been doing this wrong somehow and the script is supposed to work that way but I've not been able to make it work.

The thing is I designed the site and tested it on a lot of different screen resizer plugins and it looked good.
What I did not count on was the space you lose with the dock. The content just gets too small on a 1366x768 for example.
Nancy, with "This allows content to fit the available viewport.", you mean the browser window? I've already built it that way.
Jon, ok so I was right about the API not working on whole sites then but it does have the the opputunity to make a single page fullscreen though.
Though I want the fullscreen mode on IE as well, I don't think the interface elements take that much space on windows computers and
maybe I won't have to use fullscreen there. This site is also not designed to work on mobiles so no issue there.
I have been thinking about some alternatives:
1. Some kind of workaround that you mention Nancy, but I haven't found any.
2. Have the visitors push a key to get into fullscreen but it seems that there is no equivalent to the F11 on mac, just different shortcuts for
different browsers. Or have I missed something here?
3. Make the next page open up in an iframe but it just slows down the loading of the page.

In fullscreen mode, is there a way to prevent the page from shifting down when displaying the menu and tabs?

In fullscreen mode (F11), when moving the mouse toward the top of the screen to display the tabs & stuff, the page displayed is shifted down. This makes it annoying when returning down with the mouse - you want to reach a certain link, for example, but your target gets shifted up once the tabs & stuff is hidden back.
Is there any way to make the tabs & stuff display 'above' the page content, like on another layer?

Is it the web page display that is changing its own position, or is it something
about the toolbars that is pushing the page down? I have the same issue with
my browser using an add-on to show a multiple line bookmark bar.
