Pages opened but no window appeared

Hello,
I have problems with Pages 5.1
I tried to launch the program. It is opened but no window appears. when I clicked on the Pages icon on the dock, the menubar on top of the sceen is well the menubar of Pages. I also tried to open some documents of mine and start new document but no window comes up. When I looked in the menubar >Window I can see list of documents I tried to open + untitled documents. Even if I tried to click Bring all windows to front, nothing happen.
Does somebody have any solution to this?
Apparently it's not only Pages but also Keynote that manifests this behavior.

How many displays do you have?
Are they all turned on?
Are your documents minimised to your Dock?

Compressor opens but no windows appear, then hangs

hi, i just used compressor, went back into it for a second job and the compressor load pop up appeared and the menu appeared at the top but none of the windows appear, happens on opening from the menu or from sending a clip to open in compressor. never had a problem with it in the past. I have followed some advice found here including trashing prefs, trashing a bunch of files in an apple support document, even reinstalling compressor and motion but the problem persists. Any ideas?

I should add that the destinations/settings window does appear when i activate it from the windows menu, but absolutely nothing else activates. Compressor then hangs and always requires a force quit (which doesnt always work)

FCP X opens but no window appears?

Upon clicking FCP X, the icon jumps up and down, but then stops, but then no windows appear? Not even the little start up one. Any help?

Facetime opens but the window doesn't appear. I am capable of accessing the setting a preferences from the top bar but the window is still not there. The green light for the camera also turns on. I am running mountain lion with the latest updates on a macbook pro with retina display.

Yeah. Apparently there was a hardware malfunction. I took it too the apple store and they replaced the top clamshell. The repairs would have cost around $750 if it wasn't under warranty. I recommend buying AppleCare when you can.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

Safari launches but no window appears

recently, but i can't exactly track since when, safari launches regularely but no window appears, or after a reboot it opens and disappears after a little while. has anybody been affected and know a reason and solution?

I have the exact problem! In fact when this happens, and it just started this week, I can File Open New Window...then when nothing happens, and I Quit Safari, it will ask if I want to close 2 (or 3 or however many times I've tried to open a new window). Also, there was audio playing on a website last night and the audio continued, but the windows disappeared.. So, there is something that's making the window disappear, but not actually close the windows. Only a full Restart fixes this, and then it happens again.
(it may have something to do with a flash or other plugin, but I haven't been able to isolate this yet)

You appear to have the wrong end of the stick as they say.
Just starting your computer needs certain Fonts to be present to display the text you are likely to see.
Most of those needed to do this are in the Hard Drive icon/System/Library/Fonts.
Some apps require different Fonts and in the case of Messages this is AppleGothic (all one word) and is found in Hard Drive/Library/Fonts.
You would normally use the Apple App called Font Book to check these Fonts are working properly.
Prior to the Yosemite version of Messages (still called Messages 8 like th Mavericks version) you could change the Font use in the actual Messages in the app.
On a Character or word or Sentence basis there was the Format Menu.
There was also a Pane in th Preferences called Messages that let you choice the Font, the colour of the text and the colour of the balloons for Out going Messages and also Overriding the incoming ones.
You can no longer do this as the Preferences Pane and the Format Menu have gone.

I think we'd better see if some other application (other than QuickTime itself) has dropped old QuickTime componentry in the system files on the PC. (If there's a version mismatch between the old componentry and the "QuickTime proper" componentry, that can create those symptoms.)
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view options on the PC.
1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
2. In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
3. Click the View tab.
4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
5. Click OK.
Now in My Computer, open your C drive.
Open the "Windows" folder.
Open the "system32" folder.
What files and/or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file/folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

Trying to have pages open in same window

Hello! Total newbie here just getting my feet wet in iWeb.
Every time I publish, my pages after the home page open in new windows or tabs! How can I have each subsequent page open in the same window? Even "home" on other pages opens a new window! Obviously, this is not how I perceive a website to properly work.
I do see where you have the option to open a new window when selecting an "External Page" in the Link Inspector. However, I don't see the opposite option when selecting "One of My Pages". Also, I'm not using Mac.com if that has anything to do with it.

No. The little green button in the upper left-hand corner. BTW, whether you can control the initial window's size is application-specific. Some, like Word 2004 remember when launching a new window; however, you might have to open each previously saved document, resize it, and save it. If an application doesn't offer that feature, then you'll have to take it up with the creator.

Safari 5 Opens but no window comes up? Even after I click open new window.

So i downloaded Safari 5 form the update and then from the full download install.
My problem is...
Safari opens.
but no window opens.
I go to the top I click safari and go down to "Open new window"
Still nothing.
I click to quit safari.
It says "0,1,2,3 windows are open in safari do you want to quit anyway?"
(depending on how many times I clicked to open a new window)
but even tho it is sayign windows are open my computer doesnt show them anywhere.
any help people?

Hi,
Try launching Safari from your Applicatioms folder instead of the Dock.
If that doesn't help ...
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues

IPhoto opens but the window doesn't!

Latest version of iPhoto and it opens but the window doesn't. I've reinstalled and my photos are all there in the library but there is no window? Any ideas?

Yes the files does recreate itself immeadiately. This is new information:
The Rainbow BOD happens and I can only force quit the app.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Mail app appears to open but no windows will open in ML

I updated ML last night and my mail app will not open the main reading pane window , I get the menu bar and I can get the compose window to open but not my inbox or my mailbox folders window , not sure if the update has anything to do with it but worked fine before that.I also saw a new or different option on one of the dropdown menus that I have not seen before "rebuild mailbox database" If I remember correctly. As I said earlier the only window I can get to open is my compose window , I have restarted and even turned completley off and restarted with no success , I have not tried deleting the .plist yet because I was hoping no to have to. Any help would be appreciated.......Thanks in advance

Which app icon is missing?
Are you sure it wasn't moved?
Have you checked on another page or in folders?
Does it show in spotlight search? (Swipe down from the center if the screen)
Check your restrictions:
Settings > General > Restrictions
You can also try resetting your Home Screen Layout:
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout
Delete it:
Settings > General > Usage > select the app > Delete
and redownload:
Open the App Store > Updates > Purchased

ICal opens on the dock, but no window appears

For the last few days my iCal (which is in the start-up disk) will bounce on the dock but then no window appears. The icon stops bouncing, but when it finishes, all that appears is the date but it is clear, there is no calander picture in the background. The only way to quit iCal is to force quit. When I click on the icon on the dock, no window appears and iCal's menu does not appear on the top bar like in other apps. Every now and then my isync tries to sync my iCal with my .mac account, but it comes up with the following message
|(null)| iCal application is not available for sync. Please quit iCal.
Can't synchronize calendars and To Do items to iCal: device is not available
I have tried to run Virex several times but no viruses have come up. any suggestions?

Does running Firefox in Safe mode help?
Did you at least try to disable hardware acceleration if it works in safe-mode?
Such a test only takes a short time and can easily be undone. 
Testing for misbehaving extensions takes a lot more time with all the restart involved.
If you have many extensions then first enable half of the extensions to test which half has the problem. 
Continue to divide the bad half that still has the issue until you find which one is causing it.
We only can do some guesses if you post a list of your installed extensions and themes.

Just updated to Maverick and now I cannot open any of my applications on my Airbook. It shows the program running but no windows appear on the screen. Help!!!

Any ideas as to why the applications do not open in a window?

Is an external display connected and turned off? If not, open Mission Control. Do you see the window(s) in any other spaces?
