Pages quit, lost all work, can I retrieve?

I hit delete to get rid of a text box and Pages quit. Everything I had been working on for four hours was lost. Is there anyway to retrieve the work?

mvh,
I guess there's no really kind way to say this, except to add that it happens a lot. You shouldn't ever work for 4 hours on something without saving every 10 minutes or so. What operating system are you using? Since 10.5, we've had Time Machine, but even that requires that you Save once in a while. 10.7 adds Versions to further safeguard your work, but you must save at least once at the beginning.
Good luck,
Jerry

if i have lost my iphone can i retrieve my pics and contacts using icloud?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Contacts should already be at iCloud.com if you have already set up iCloud sync services. Photos in Photostream can be viewed on a computer using the same iCloud account, but not at iCloud.com.
If you haven't already set up iCloud on your phone you won't be able to do so now you have lost it.

  • Loaded ios 6 onto my i phone and lost all data can it be retrieved

loaded ios6 onto my i phone and lost all data. not too worried about apps but lost contacts, all music downloaded onto i phone and photos, Is there any way it can be retrieved?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can only restore them from a backup. This has occurred because you are sharing an iCloud account. ideally you should each have your own iCloud account, that way you can each manage your own mail, contacts, calendars, documents etc and avoid unintentional deletions and unwanted editing. If there is information you wish to share between you, this can be done with a secondary account.
Having separate iCloud accounts, doesn't mean you have to have separate iTunes accounts, so whilst you keep your personal data separate, you can continue to share music, apps, books, TV shows, movies etc.

  • HT4859 my email account was hacked and ive lost all emails can i restore them from icloud

My email account was hacked and i've lost all my emails can I restore from icloud?

Not if they've been deleted.  You could check your trash folder to see if they're still there.  If not, they're gone.

  • Since my ipad update to iOS 7.0.2 my iPad has lost all sound , can anyone help me ?

Since I updated to ios7.0.2 my iPad 4 has lost all sound. I have no sound on any function or app since I updated. My battery is also draining much faster than before the update. Can anyone help me with a fix for the sound issue?

A number of people have complained of this happening to their iPads. The only recommendation I've seen is to shut down and restart the device. Do this by holding down the power button and "Home" button together for ~ 10 seconds. A red slider will appear asking if you want to shut down. After shutting down the iPad, restart by holding down the power button until you see the Apple logo appear.

  • Saved and published updated website, changes not saved in iweb.  Have lost all work in iweb but correct site is on the internet.  Can I retrieve site from internet and replace to iweb so can continue updating?

Just finished updating web site, saved and published.  Showed up on the internet finr, went back to do a few tweeks and all my days work is gone!  Fine on the net gone in iweb!  I don't want to loose the days work.  Is there any way to get the website from the internet and stuffit back into iweb, without redoing all the work?  Why didn't it save?  Wjat can I do to prevent this happening again?  Where did I go wrong?

Publish you site to a folder on your hard drive and open it locally with your browser.  Check to see if the site is all there.  If not
    Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
launch iWeb and publish to the folder again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • Plugged in iphone to my iMac, it asked me to back my iPhone. Now everything on my iphone is lost. How can I retrieve back all my info?

All my contacts, photos, app information, videos and messages have gone. I don't know where they are on my computer and I want to know how I can restore them back on my iphone. Thanks, looking forward to your reply

In the iCloud preference pane, sign in to the same account you use on the other devices, if you haven't already done that. Then check the box marked Contacts.

  • If you wipe work can you retrieve it

I have spent all day uploading my wedding gifts list in a table on pages including all the addresses (which i paid to get almost£100) and after saving it i have went back into the document and obviously the table must have been highlighted i then clicked on the table icon at the top of the page which then appeared as three empty rows stupidly and x'd out of the document and have now lost everything!!! please some lovely person tell me there is a way of retrieving this work as i am traumatised not just about the time and effort but the money paid to find addresses i must have had 150 names and addresses!! please if any one could help me id be much obliged
i done all this on pages

When something like that happens, the first thing to try is to Command-Z (Edit > Undo) your way back.
If that fails because you have closed the document, then try Browsing your Versions. File > Revert to > Browse.

  • PS CS3 force quit, lost all preferences and actions

I had PS open but no images open, surfing in Safari (downloading some files). Spinning ball of death, so I leave it for a couple of mins. Keeps spinning. Leave it 5 mins. Walk away to have a break and let it sort itself out. Half an hour later, still the spinning ball. Force quit (from dock). Nothing. Cmd/Option/esc to force quit. Nothing. PS is listed in the Force Quit dialogue. Go to PS and spinning ball is there as well..... very strange (Finder is not listed in Force Quit dialogue menu). Try to force quit a few more times. Nothing. So I hold the power button till OSX starts up again and of course, now all my Preferences, Actions etc have gone.
Can anyone help explain what happened?
When I couldn't force quit, anything else I should have done?
I do have my system disc backed up, so is there a simple way to "reset" PS from my backup?
    Many thanks for any help!

    Stupid question time.......
If I've made an Action, it's not "saved" anywhere until I go to the drop-down menu and physically save it to a location on my HD? Even though that Action is there every time I shut down and re-open PS?
    Bugger.......
It looked like the only files to move over (I dragged and dropped the files from my back-up to my working HD) were the preferences file in the Settings folder and the .plist file. That's taken care of anyway.
    Thanks!

  • ITunes/Quicktime installation went off quite smoothly//All works fine

    Hi Friends,
A few days back I had posted a query wanting to know if iTunes v9 works fine on Win XP SP2 or not. 1 guy said that it may or may not work. But guess what, everything went perfect and smooth, which was totally unexpected. I was on iTunes v6.0.2.23 and was apprehensive about upgrading directly to v9. I tried upgrading to v8 long time back but that failed miserably. But v9 installation went smooth, heres how :
I had Quicktime in my PC and I figured out that it was corrupted. Quicktime wont open (eventhough iTunes v6 did). So I thought of fixing the existing version of Quicktime first. I had Quicktime version 7.0.4 installed in my computer. Somehow it never showed up in Add/Remove programs so I wasnt able to remove it. So I went to www.oldversion.com and downloaded the old version (i.e. 7.0.4) of Quicktime. This installer file first allowed me to uninstall the corrupted version and then let me install the good version of 7.0.4 Quicktime.
After this, I found that Quicktime now worked perfectly on my computer. So I went ahead and downloaded the latest version of iTunes + Quicktime and installed it. And guess what, my 5 yr old Windows XP [ Pentium 4 - 384 MB of Ram] now runs iTunes v9.0.0.70 and Quicktime v7.6.4.
    My Review :
    Quicktime :
Though the player looks sleek, it is still incompatible in playing most video file formats. It does not recognize a simple 'wmv' file, does not play 'avi' file, though it suggested me to download some codecs to play 'avi' files. But why would I do that anyways..? I have VLC which plays almost everything. All audio files work good in Quicktime and MPEG-4 video playbacks are awesome.

    iTunes :
Wow, this latest version of iTunes is a complete boon. There is so much to do with this new version. I am totally amazed with its added Grid view and CoverFlow view. iTunes DJ is another added advantage. Who needs a professional DJ when you have iTunes with you ? iTunes v9 was quick enough to retrieve the entire Library and my playlists from v6 and within minutes I was back to my music and videos with an all look on my new iTunes. Both audio files and video files work perfectly fine in this new version, just like it did with my old version. All good things bring some bad things with them too. This new version is too much bothered about Album Artworks and asks me to update them which is irritating. And the Genius function does not work for me since I am in India and India does not have an online iTunes store yet.

*P.S.:*I am not an Apple marketing expert or an Apple employee, the review I mentioned is totally original and my personal opinion about iTunes and Quicktime. I just though of sharing my personal experience with you guys. So please dont kill me over it. Thanks and cheers !

  • When I am done with Pages, Quit doesn't work

After I am finished working on a Pages document, saving, printing, etc.  I choose either command-q or File--> quit, Pages just highlights file and doesn't quit.
This is rather annoying, I let the software do this for a while thinking that it might be just running slow, but it just will not  quit.  So, I choose force, either from the menu or command-option-esc.  Pages is listed, it is not listed as not responding, I force quit, but this could lead to serious problems.
Pages will start back okay the next time I need it, but still not a good way to bring Pages down.
Has anyone seen this or had it happen to them.  I have seen it on a couple of identical MacBook Pros.

  • I exported my bookmarks to do a clean install, but now my exported file is nothing but pages of text. How can i retrieve my bookmarks?

I backed up my firefox bookmars, and the file that came out of it is no specific file type. Even in the properties, it just says "File type: File".
So now i'm trying to restore my bookmarks, but I can't open that file. If i try opening the file itself with firefox or any other browser for that matter, I get long pages of text. It does contain my bookmarks, but it's really hard to read. What can i do to fix this?

    That is a JSON backup.<br />
You need to rename the file and add a .json (lowercase) file extension to make Firefox recognize the file as a JSON backup.
*Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Restore > Choose File
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Backing_up_and_restoring_bookmarks_-_Firefox
Note that restoring a JSON backup will replace all existing bookmarks.

  • Iphoto lost all photos - can i copy photos back from ipod to mac?

Had an issue with corrupt files in my iphoto library. Did a bunch of stuff and upgraded etc....now iphoto is running fine...
lost a bunch of photos.. basically all corrupt and/or missing
I do have them all on my 5th gen ipod... is there anyway i can transfer photos FROM my ipod TO my mac????

Yes and no. If you had the iPod set to copy the photos as originals, then you will get the "original" photographs back (turn on disk mode and you will find them easily enough). If however, you didn't have this preference set then you will not have the "proper" photographs on there. You will just have the small scaled images which you can see on the iPod. However, if you enable disk mode you should balso be able to get these if you so wish. After all, the thumbnails will be better than nothing if the photos were important.

  • Address Book - "Forced Quit" lost all data

I had a significant problem with Address Book (4.0.6) and its back-up. I am running 10.4.11 on a Power Mac (Dual 450 MHz PowerPC G4).
While in Address Book, it did not respond so I did a Force Quit. Upon reopening Address Book, all of my data (over 1000 items) was gone and only two addresses existed. In checking my account>Library>Application Support>Address Book, all that existed in the main address was 16 KB. A version of the Address Book from 2005 existed but not the current one.
In checking my back-up drive (backed up once a day), backed up by Retrospect (Destination = Replaced Corresponding Files, Selecting = Users Folders and Prefs (OS X), the only Address Book file was from 2005, probably when I first used Retrospect. In other words, the daily back-up was not capturing the most recent file.
One, what happened to the Address Book file when I did Forced Quit? Is it still on my hard drive under some other name? If so, how can I find it and can I use it?
FYI, I did run Apple’s Disk Utility and Verified the Hard drive which was OK.

    Try this:
    Quit Address Book.
In folder ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook drag file AddressBook.data to the desktop. Rename AddressBook.data.previous to AddressBook.data and restart AB. If your contacts are not back quit AB again and repeat the drag/rename process, this time with AddressBook.data.beforesave.
If you get your contacts back, now is probably a good time to use the AB menu item File/Back up Address Book.

When was the last time you did a backup with iTunes?  If your latest backup has all of the material you have been using you can recover by connecting to the computer you sync with and restore the content via iTunes.  Attach to your computer, open iTunes and do a backup restore.
