Pages- Recipients can't open

I just purchased a new MacBook Air and downloaded the Free version of pages to my decktop, I can use the templates just fine but when I save it and email them to a recipient they can not open the document.  Am I not saving it correctly or do I need to purchase one that cost $ in order to to email Pages?

THe trial is the full application, but turns off the ability to Save (or print) at the end of the thirty day period.
Export is found in the File menu and in the Share menu. The menu item opens a dialogue where you can choose the file format for the exported file.
PDF documents may also be produced via the Print dialogue. Press command-P to open the dialogue, then click the PDF button at the bottom left, and choose one of the options. One advantage of using Print is the ability to create a file including only one or a series of pages, rather that the whole document.

Barry

  • Email attachments - recipients can't open them

    Hi
    Can anyone help me?
No matter which format my pages attachments are in - recipients can't open them.
I use a gmail account to send them.
Had an appointment at a Genius Bar the staff took no notice of my presence in store!
    I am not happy!!!
    Help??????????

If you go for help in the Apple Store you have to make your presence known to the person organising the Genius Bar appointments. Don't just hang around.
Also whilst you may be unhappy and having a gripe, it doesn't get us very far.
Start with looking under the  menu. What does it say in About this Mac? Under Mac OSX is the version.
    Next switch to Pages.
What does it say under About Pages?
When you say no matter what formats your pages attachments are in, what formats are they?
Most people will not be able to read .pages documents unless they also have Pages and the same version of Pages running on a Mac because there is no Windows version.
Most people however will be able to read Text (.txt), Word (.doc/x) or PDF (.pdf) files.
If you are more comfortable with Windows and possibly Microsoft Office have you tried Word for Mac?

  • Pages? Can I open really old Claris Works documents with it? I don't want to spend $20 to find out.

Pages? Can I open really old Claris Works documents with it? I don't want to spend $20 to find out. I saved a bunch of stuff back in 1996, and now i need to open it.

Pages opens strictly word processing AppleWorks v6 files.
The problem with ClarisWorks files were they could contain all sorts of objects from databases to spreadsheets, drawings and paint. the iWork suite is not that versatile.
But you really have little choice as ClarisWorks and AppleWorks are both history. If you are going to switch, the sooner the better.
Just keep in mind what Apple did to ClarisWorks/AppleWorks along with many other of their appliactions and technologies theywill ultimately do to Pages.

  • Problem with Pages.  I have recently been unable to open Pages, or any documents from Pages on my iMac.  Pages seems to be in the Cloud and can open a list of the documents in Pages, but can't open any of those documents.

Recently unable to open Pages or any documents therein.  It seems to be stuck in the Cloud.  Although I can open a list of the documents I can not open any of the documents.

The answer is simple...  If you want to remedy this, then don't save them as PDFs.
Word opens Word and text documents.  Not PDFs.
Also note that this forum is for troubleshooting Apple Software Update for Windows, a software package for Windows designed to update Apple products that run on Windows, and not related to Microsoft Office or your question in any way. If you have issues or questions about Office, it's probably best you post Office related questions on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products.

  • Pages: How can I open a pages doc without having pages on a computer?

I use my laptop (pages) for everything but I have a presentation that is due for a class and I cannot open my docs from a windows computer at school. Can someone please help me? Thanks tons.

    Em,
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
You need Pages in order to save a file that's been saved in Pages' native format. But you can export Pages documents to Word or PDF so that they can be opened on Windows computers. From within Pages, click on File > Export > Word (or PDF).

  • After updating Pages, I can't open my files.

I've updated Pages and now I'm not able to open my Pages' files. The app says that the re are 63 files to update, but the update never ends and so the files are totally unusable!
    Please help me!

I don't have the option to put Mavericks on the internal disk.  The late OS was on the internal disk but last year when I tried to update to Mavericks there was not enough space to do it.  The program offered the opportunity to download it on the external disk and I do it.  Big mistake, it took me a couple of months to find someone to help me fix it, (to redirect the applications and recover my music).  I just didn't learn and updated again. :(.
Can I  just go back to the late Maverick version?  And how?

  • Help!!! Have corrupted pages file, can't open

Can someone help me open this file? I've looked through the forum and google and can't find any way of recovering this document! Pages crashes "unexpectedly" whenever I try to open it
FYI, it happened when I had to manually force a shut down with the power button after my Desktop Manager application froze the system (before I could save my previous few minutes of work)

nevermind, just going to copy and reformat all the text out of the index.xml file. what a drag

  • Pages Update can't open older document

Last week I updated Pages on my iPad, I am now only able to open documents that were created after the update.  When I select older documents, a window pops up and says "Document can't be imported.  The file format is invalid."

Try this. It worked for me.
I discovered the same problem.  I had an older version of Pages on my iPad. After updating it to the latest version all my previous documents created in pages for the iPad were rendered unreadable and a message stated that they were an invalid format.  Why for the life of me would a program that was created by Apple and sense updated not be able to read previous versions...well that's a whole other sad story.  Any way I discovered how to fix it but it would require that you had backup your iPad on a computer and not emptied your trash. If this sounds good than here is how you fix it... And it worked for me.
These steps will enable you to reinstall a previous version of the Pages app so you can be able to read and edit older documents.
FIRST: if you did backup your iPad using your computer and did not empty your trash, GOTO the trash and look for PAGES 1.4 (or other number) ipa ( that's the file extension) ie PAGES 1.4 ipa.
SECOND: move that file out of the trash and onto your desktop.  Once you do this, double click on it and a box will come up stating a newer version has been found and do you want to revert back to older version. ANSWER YES. It will than automatically place and overwrite the older version back into the file on iTunes that contains the rest of your backed up apps.
THIRD: and this is where it is important that your backup would have to have been on your computer. I'm not sure if backup on the cloud will work.  iCloud backup at your own risk And here's why. Before you restore you will need to remove the latest version of Pages off your iPad by doing the usual : holding down the home button until the apps wiggle and remove by pressing on X on app.  Removing off your iPad will also delete all your documents but if you have a previous backup on your computer those documents will be stored safely on itunes and will return.
FORTH: plug your iPad into your computer and allow it to sync so iTunes will recognize it. Once iTunes is up and you can see that it recognizes your iPad, GOTO "FILE/DEVICES/RESTORE FROM BACKUP."  ******* DO NOT CLICK ON BACKUP***** click on RESTORE FROM BACKUP. This will reinstall all previous settings and documents that were their when you backuped PLUS the older version of Pages that you placed back from the above steps. Let it run through all the setups ( this could take up to 20 minutes...depending on amount of data and photos and apps).
FIFTH: Once everything is reinstalled a message will popup on your computer stating "to leave iPad plugged in until iTunes recognizes it again" ( it's basically rebooting itself).  Once done (leave iPad plugged in still) GOTO iPad and follow the steps. IMPORTANT:  iPad will ask you if you want to SET IT UP AS A NEW IPAD, BACK UP FROM THE CLOUD or BACK UP FROM ITUNES.....press SET UP AS NEW IPAD. Follow all of the steps required. Once complete GOTO iTunes on computer, look for "IPAD" plus a little arrow ( should be on upper right corner of iTunes window, click on it ( this will safely disconnect your iPad from iTunes) . Now unplug iPad from computer and go to your iPad and look for the older version of Pages. It should be there along with all your old documents ( readable and editable too).
    Hope this helps. Good luck.

  • PAGES 09 CAN'T OPEN FILE FROM PAGES APP IPAD IOS 1.7

    Hi,
This morning I was trying to open a file from the iCloud window of my Pages 0.9 - 4.2  on my iMac (Os 10.8.3) when I did so the window told me that I needed a new version of Pages and it sent my to the appstore, pointing to Pages 09 4.3.
I was shocked...another 17 euro to buy the some software I already have!!! Anyway...I was in a rush so I had to buy it...I tried to do so but the AppStore didn't want to sell it to me! It said: "This app is already istalled on your Mac, check for updates". Of course there were no updates to be downloaded...so I'm here asking for you help!
    Thank you!
PS: the file I was trying to open had been created a few hours erlier on my iPad (updated to the latest IOS, 1.7)

Go to this page http://www.apple.com/support/pages/ and look at the right side. There are links to iWork 9.3. Doenload it and update. Hopefully it will work.

  • Recipients can't open plain text email attachments

I know this should be a no-brainer, and maybe the toddler running around in the background here and my pressing job hunt is preventing me from seeing the obvious, but I'm having trouble sending out my resume as a plain text attachment from my iMac mail account.
I've tried sending it out to my own blackberry to make sure it's not garbled before I blast it to Monster, et al, and the attachments aren't even showing up on my blackberry. When I check my sent mail file on the desktop, it's there, supposedly attached. I've tried compressing it, sending it as a windows-friendly attachment and sending it with a .doc extension file at the end with no luck.
Since I have no way of knowing who will be looking at it, much less what kind of software they'll be using, I can't download programs just to send it out to fit their format. I don't want to send it out as a PDF file because even a single click can be enough reason for someone to skip over my resume...
Any suggestions for the addled mom and job hunter???

I've tried sending it out to my own blackberry to make sure it's not garbled before I blast it to Monster, et al, and the attachments aren't even showing up on my blackberry.
If your Blackberry isn't designed to show attachments (I don't know, since I don't use one), that would be expected. Did you try just sending it as part of the actual message, instead of an attachment? As for Monster, creating or uploading a resume is done from their web site, so an attachment has no bearing on your using them.
I don't want to send it out as a PDF file because even a single click can be enough reason for someone to skip over my resume...
That's complete nonsense. Even if you send it as a plain text attachment, the recipient would certainly have to double-click to open and read the file; it's no different for a PDF file, except that PDFs can be formatted the way you like and anyone can open it to read it or even print it.

  • Why can I open Word documents with Pages but can't open Pages documents with Pages? Oh, that's right, I have to PAY EVERY TIME I TURN AROUND

    Sorry, this just upsets me.

Heaven knows what you are talking about.
I suppose you might, but probably don't, which is why you are huffing and puffing.
Probably this is about Pages '08 not opening the later Pages '09. Given that Pages '09 introduced many features that Pages '08 didn't have, it is not too surprising.
Remind me what it costs to buy Pages '09 from the M.A.S. to use on as many computers as you want.
Also remind me what it costs for Ms Word, or even lunch. I'm sure you have blown more on a whim than you ever will on something as useful as Pages.

  • Looks like I have pages, but can't open docs

I have pages app in dock but cannot open docs sent as pages from someone else.  Or do I not have Iwork?

The icon on the Dock is just an alias & will remain even if the application it points to has been deleted. Have you looked in your Applications folder for Pages.app? It could be in a folder named iWork '09.

  • Im properly emailing photos in Iphoto 11, but recipients can't open.

Im properly sending photos from Iphoto, it says successfully sent, but some recepients are not  able to see the photos, and some get boxes with question marks, using Iphoto 11 Vs 9.2.1. Inever had this problem before. Im also having a problem opening Iphoto sometimes. This Iphoto11 is problematic, and causing me much grief.

What type of computer do the people having problems have?
One guy has a Mac  --  if that the only person who has had a problem? Has he had the problem multiple times or only once? What e-mail client does he use?
on a given e-mail have you ever had some able to open the photo and others not?
To upgrade to 9.2.3 if you have an older Mac and got software restore disks with it use software update - it you have a newer Mac and get your software from the App store log into to the App store using the Apple ID you registered the computer with and look under purchased apps for updates - download and install from there
    and again
IMHO the best solution is to quity using iPhoto to email photos and use Apple mail - set it as teh iPhoto e-mail client in the iPhoto preferences

  • Can not open page - Safari can not open page because website is invalid

I have this sign coming up when I try to get onto Safari.  I press the OK but it doesn't let me go back or put in anything on safari so basically I have no web access.  Hhow can I reset Safari so it does not remember the site and lets me use the web as usual.  It is a weather site I clicked on through a goodgle search:
    accuweather.com

Hi everyone, I also had the same problem with connecting to the internet at home, with a brand new iPad, but managed to sort it out today with the help of the Genius Bar staff. I figured it was a router/software issue because wifi/internet was working at my university and at the Apple store. As posted in other threads on this forum, your iPad was probably not assigned an IP address.
I am using an Airport Express 802.11n, and this is connected via ethernet to my modem from my internet provider in Switzerland. It seems the problem is with "Bridge Mode", and my modem won't give out an IP address to my iPad. To fix this, I used the "Share a Public IP address" mode instead of Bridge mode. In Airport Utility, I went to Manual Setup - Internet - Internet Connection tab - Connection Sharing - Share a public IP address.
Then in the DHCP tab, DHCP reservation, I added my iPad to this list. it will ask you for your iPad's MAC number, which you can find in your iPad Settings - General - About - Wifi Address. I did not bother adding my Macbook or iPhone and wifi is still working for them so I think this IP address reservation step might be optional.
For those not using Macs or Airport Utility, unfortunately I am not familiar with setting up routers in the browser, so I can't help you there, but hopefully you get the idea.
Internet now works, but I haven't tried it long enough to know whether I have issues with dropping wifi, but at least the IP address is obtained and I can surf.
    Hope this helps others!!!!!!

  • HT4641 I have recently upgraded to Pages 5.1.  I can't open any of my previously created Pages docs because I am told they are too old and have to be saved in Pages'09 first. I don't have Pages '09. How do I open them?

I am technologically challenged senior citizen who recently upgraged to Pages 5.1 from what I think was iWorks '08.  I now find that I am not able to open any of my important previously created Pages documents.  I receive a pop-up that tells me that they are too old and must be saved in Pages'09 first.  I no longer have the disk for iWorks 08 and don't have Pages '09 on my iMac.  Any ideas how I might get these documents open?

You should have the old Pages '08 inside the iWork folder, inside your Applications folder.
Open your old files in Pages '08 > Menu > File > Export > Word
Pages 5 can then open that Word file.
