Pages refuses to open files and export

I have become incredibly agitated as Pages will save a document then refuse to open it without any reason-does notr say it is corrupted, simply comes up with message '(doc name) cannot be opened. Also, when working on pages it has started to refuse to export docs into word and pdfs. Occassionally it will export one type and then refuse to do other, also without reason.
I activated IWork after the trial period ran out so I am confused as to how to reinstall it without it being on a disk, if I need to do so.
Any ideas?

When an application that was working correctly stops doing so the cause is likely corrupt preferences. There are a couple of ways to check this out. Log in as another user on your Mac & see if the behavior continues.
If you have a particular document you want to try to open in the other user, move it to the HD > Users > Shared folder. Unless permissions are set for other users to read & write you may get a message that a copy will be opened.
Quit Pages & then delete the com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist from HD > Users > [your account] > Library > Preferences. Then restart Pages & see what happens. You will have to reset some Pages preferences.
If it were just one document, a trick I learned in the AppleWorks forum & has worked for some Pages users, is to save the document in iWork '05 format (use a different name) & then open it in Pages 2.
You can reinstall iWork from the restore DVD that came with your Mac. Just make sure you have your serial number written down to reenter it. Apple has written an article, Knowledge Base article 61802 on restoring the software than came with your Mac. Reinstalling, though, will not remove the preference files, so they will need to be moved manually as above. There is also one for Keynote in each user's Library as well as the com.apple.iWork06.plist in HD > Library > Preferences which contains the serial number. It is unlikely that this preference file is corrupt.

You cannot have time machine backups on your hard drive if you intend to use it in FCPX.

I'mtrying to upload my photos to shutterfly I've gone to file and export then the window gives me the option of file export webpage quicktime and slideshow . on my macmini I have shutterfly on there also how do I get this on my new mac

I go to file and export then a window appears with file export, webpage,quicktime and slideshow. On my mini I have shutterfly as an option and don't remember how to do it. What do I do to input this info so that shutterfly becomes an option

Are your photos in iPhoto or are you using some other Photo Software?
The latest version of iPhoto is a lot different than iPhoto 6 for example. In iPhoto 06 you could burn the Originals from your User Picture Folder using Finder, while in iPhoto 11 it is best to burn them from within the iPhoto Application.
Open iPhoto and select the Event(s) that you want to burn onto the CD, then select Share on the menu bar and click Burn in the drop down.

To make a new document, go to File > New From Template chooser and choose the type of document you wish to create.
To add a new page to an existing document go to Insert > Sections > Blank.

Proxy Media: Transcode Source File and Export Read File...

Hello, I'm new to FCPX. I have a Panasonic HC-X920. When I shoot things I copy the entire folder tree to my hard drive and import from there, rather than directly from the SD card.
I learned that FCPX "re-wraps" the truly original h.264 MTS files to "Original" h.264 MOV files. Not a huge deal, as there doesn't appear to be quality loss, and the MB/s rate is slightly higher on the MOVs. Ideally I'd be able to use the MTS files but FCP is Quicktime-based and I've decided I'm not worried about it.
Anyway,
My computer can't handle playing back 1080p 60fps h.264 footage. In order to have playback on an FCPX timeline, I have to transcode to either Proxy or Optimized media. Optimized, of course, takes up a ton of space, so I'm curious about using Proxy. But I want more info first.
I'm most curious about question #1, but here are two questions:
1.
Let's say I transcode everything to Proxy Media upon import. When I go to share/export a final file from my timeline, which of the following does FCPX do?
(A) Export the timeline using/reading from the lower-quality Proxy media, ignoring the Originals.
(B) Automatically replace the Proxy media with the Original media files, and export the timeline using/reading the Original media files while ignoring the Proxies.
(And if B is the answer, is it reading the Original MTS or Original MOV? I'd assume MOV, right?)
Does this question make sense?
I'll mostly be editing home movies with this, so it's not imperative that I be able to see what I'm editing in vivid detail and I can use Proxy for that to save disk space. But I DON'T want my final exports to be based on that lower-quality transcoded 422 Proxy Media; I want the proxies to be view-only, and I want the final exported quality to be based on the quality of the Original media.
My other question:
2. (probably not a big deal either way)
When FCPX transcodes to Proxy and/or Optimized, is it reading from (A) the "Original" MOV files it created upon import, or (B) from the "truly original" MTS files?

I don't work for Adobe but it seems to me you might be signing in to Acrobat with the wrong Adobe ID.
Check the Adobe ID you use in Acrobat.
Check this Adobe ID on Adobe's to make sure that it has an active subscription.

Numbers and Pages don't open files on iCloud

In the open dialogue window, I have two spaces: the iCloud space and the 'On my Mac' space. I can't open any document stored in iCloud. I can move them on the desktop of the Mac (so removed from iCloud) and THEN I can open them (… & edit & save). I can put them back in iCloud. However, again, I can't edit them if stored in iCloud. OS X is updated to 10.9.2, Pages is 5.1, Numbers is 3.1, all in French. Also, there is no problems with these documents on my iOs devices.
Am I the only one to have this trouble?

Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Note: Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

When clicking File on top of this page a dropdown box shows Open File and when doing so many old downloads are there. How can I delete the entire batch at once.

When I click on Filed(in upper left hand corner of screen) a drop down box appears which includes several choices including Open File. When I click on Open File it shows many old downloads which I don't want or need to save. I can delete them individually but there are many many of them. Can someone give me guidance on how to deleter them all at one time. Thanks my friends.

hello cardavfl, i think in the open file dialog in the windows file picker you only can select one item at a time.
it would be better to look at the top of the file dialog ("look in:") where this folder is located on your harddrive & then use windows explorer & go to this path - then you can press ctrl+a to select all items at once (or use the mouse to select them all) and to delete them ...

GarageBand file crashes entire application, every time. How can I undo my last action so I can open it and export what I have?

I have an ENTIRE song that I just finished, thought I would add a drum loop track just to see what it sounded like with my natrual acoustics.
Apparently that was an awful idea! Adding the track crashed the whole program, and no matter what actions I take I can't get that single file to reopen. I've checked all over the web for possible answers, but no one has ever gotten this particular problem figured out (from what I can find).
I don't want to overload you guys with all the raw error report data unless you need it, so just let me know if that's something I should bother to post!
Really, I just want a way to get rid of that one track, or "undo" my last action so that I can reopen the file and salvage the rest of my perfect song.

That is very typical for corrupted media files. Is the last track you added a real-instrument track and you made an audio recording? Then it might help to remove the last added audio file from your GarageBand project.
Or do you have a TimeMachine backup, so that you could restore the last version of your project from the backup?
To remove an audio file from your GarageBand project ctrl-click the "xxxx.band" file of the song and select "Show Package Contents". Inside your package should be a folder called "Media" and it will contain your recordings as ".aiff" files, named like the tracks. Drag the newest ".aiff" to the Desktop and try to launch GB. You will probably get a warning about missing media - ignore it. Canyou launch GB this way?

Pages won't open files on desk top

I have a Pages document on desktop. It will not open and the following message appears. However I have the latest version of Pages, if I use ctrl click I can choose the application and work on the document, I can save and close the doc but still can't open it again fron desk top.
Is this a problem unique to me or is it an Apple bug? If so is it being fixed?

Pages can´t open files saved in iCloud

I can´t open any file save to iCloud
I tried a workaraound:
I couldn´t open a file save to iCloud from my iPad.
I opened it from icloud.com and downloaded it to my iMac.
Opened the downloaded file, and everything semed ok.
I then closed the dokument and opened the file on my ipad again. Made som editing before I closed the dokument.
Then I tried to open it again in Pages on my iMac, but couldent open it.
Translated: Couldn´t open the file ".... ..."
I also tried to open a file saved to icloud (without opening it on other machines and devises). Pages couldn´t open those files either...
Can sombody help me?

When I bought my macbook pro, I deleted the app in the dock that complies all your open files together. When you click on the app it fans all the icons out. What is that app called and how do I find it again/get it back??

okay... got that...but before I deleted it, it would "fan" all my open web pages, or open PDF files. So they were in a little folder as opposed to lined up beside my trash bin?

2. Select "Tools" from right top corner of the document windows
3. Select " Manipulate Pages"

I scanned some large documents, which were two sided. Because they were printed on glossy paper, I could not scan the pages double sided. So I made two files, one file containing all the even pages and one file containing all the odd pages. Now I have two problems: 1. the pages in the even pages file are in the reversed order, so I need to reverse the order of all the pages in this file. Then I need to combine these two files (collate) so that all the odd and even pages are combined into one single file and all the pages are in the correct order.
In older acrobat pro programs (windows) I found a javascript file that could fix all this. However now I have Acrobat XI and I have a macbook pro, so now I'm completely lost. Can anyone help me with this problem?

If you have a script that does it then you should use it... Open the console and run this command:
app.getPath("app", "javascript");
It will print out the location you need to use for the .js file you have. Then restart Acrobat and you should be good to go.
