Pages: Save to Mac by default, instead of iCloud?

In Pages, how can I change the default behavior of the program when saving files? I rarely (but sometimes) want to save my files to iCloud. I wish Pages would remember my last Save destination instead of always going to the iCloud, and always collapsing the detail view of the Save dialog box.
The way it works now requires me to click first on the "expand" arrow, then navigate to my folder containing this year's correspondence (which itself is inside the Documents folder), before I can name the document and save it. Not a step forward, in my opinion.
Any hwlp will be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, there does not appear to be a solution to your problem at this time, if you have any suggestions that you think might enhance iCloud you can send Apple your feedback here.

Your default mail program is set in Mail->Preferences->General. Choose which program you want from the drop-down menu, then quit Mail and restart it.
Of course, you'd be helping yourself if you deleted Entourage or at least removed all your account information from it, so that if you ever launched it by accident, it would not be able to send or receive email.

  • How do I make pages 4.3 default instead of pages 5.0

In the previous version of pages, 09 and 4.3, the first letter of any new paragraph would automatically capatalize as would each succeding first letter of a next sentence.  The pronoun "I" would automatically capatalize also.
I found I couldn't get these features to work and called Apple Tech support and apparently these features are not in the new pages 5.0 which set itself as the default program.
How can I revert to Pages 4.3 as default ?
I have also downloaded OX 10 Mavericks
    Thanks,
    Leonard

Thanks to s_w_i_t_t_e_r_s and Peggy for their responses!  Looks like this is our current situation:
Option 1 – Change every Pages document manually back to defaulting to 4.3. (AllergyDoc)
Option 2 – Uninstall Pages 5.0 – and deal with the recurring update notification. (switters) (This didn't work so well for me – I kept getting messages saying that my old documents wouldn't open in 4.3 anymore and I had to download the 5.0 version again.  The message wasn't the pain; not getting back into my old docs was the issue.)
Option 3 – Peggy's external volume solution, which works if you want to get an external volume, but not if you're cheap.
Would still love to see Option 4 from Apple sometime – make it possible to make 4.3 the default just by hitting that magic button!  But in the meantime, at least we've got a few options …

  • Firefox 3.6.8 won't open local php files. It opens the save as text dialog box instead.

When I try to open a local php file on my MAC hard drive with FF 3.6.8, the save file dialog box opens instead. It says: You have chosen to open index.php which is a TextEdit.app Document. I do not have this problem with Firefox 3.5.11.
    I have tried:
opening the file directly from Firefox as well as
double clicking the file (which is the most common way).
I have also tried changing the file "open with" preference to "open with Firefox." That did not work either.
Any help on this would be appreciated.
    I'm on a MAC OS 10.5.8
    Thnx, Nick

    You have to delete mimeTypes.rdf.
You can find it here (Windows XP): C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Aplication Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default.

  • How do I change my preferences to save downloads to my desktop, instead of a User's download folder?

How do I change my preferences to save downloads to my desktop, instead of an internal User's download folder? I have an older Mac Mini & recently upgraded the operating system to 10.5.8.

I presuming you're using the default Internet Browser, Safari.
    Choose Safari → Preferences
         Alternatively, press Command+, (comma).
Click the General tab; then click the Save Downloaded Files To pop-up menu and choose Other.
Navigate to and select the location where you want the files stored and click Select.
Click the Close button to exit Preferences.

  • Save for Web filetype default in PSE 8 on Windows 7

I just installed PSE 8 on a new Windows 7 system. On my earlier Windows XP system running PSE 6, the Save for Web filetype defaulted to JPEG Medium, which is what I wanted. On this installation, it defaults every time to GIF; I change it and save the file as a JPEG, and the next one defaults again to GIF. Closing PSE, rebooting Windows, nothing changes that. I would like to make the default JPEG Medium; is there a way?

On a MAC it does seem to stick on the last option you saved e.g. Jpeg if it was a Jpeg image.
For windows, this seems to work:
Find the file PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe using explorer (in the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 8.0 folder) right click on that file and choose Run As Administrator.
Go back to the editor, open an image, select Save for Web and choose jpeg; then save that file. The next time you run the editor and use the save for web command the jpeg type should hopefully stick as the default.

  • Why are my web pages appearing in a list format instead of their usual appearance?

When I access my Yahoo home page as well as other pages, the site appears as a menu rather than in it's normal format, I cannot find any function that will allow me to change it back, Internet Explorer does not have this problem so I am fairly certain it is a problem with firefox. Can you help?

Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup chime to boot into Safe Mode. Keep holding the Shift key until you see a progress bar towards the bottom of the screen. You can let go of the Shift key at that point.
OS X asks you to log in (you will get this screen on a Safe Mode boot even if your Mac is set to automatically log in). Let the Mac finish booting to the desktop and then restart normally. This will clear Font Book's database and the cache files of the user account you logged into in Safe Mode.
Next, close all running applications. From an administrator account, open the Terminal app and enter the following command. You can also copy/paste it from here into the Terminal window:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
Terminal will then ask for your admin password. As you type, it will not show anything, so be sure to enter it correctly.
This removes all font cache files. Both for the system and the current user font cache files. After running the command, close Terminal and immediately restart your Mac.

  • Set Appleworks to save as .doc by default?

Hi, is there a way to set Appleworks word processing to save as .doc format and spreadsheets to save as .xls by default? (without having to set the save-as file type manually) Is it illegal for MS Office competing products to do this (ex. Mellel, Appleworks, etc)? I feel like if you're going to compete with MS Office on an enterprise level, you need to adapt your product to save as MS Office file types by default... product dominance.

    Hello Nova.
    I understand your wishes.
BUT Apple made different choices and AppleWorks will not evolve so what are you hoping ?
I can't tell you: me a simple user like you will add the required feature to at our old AppleWorks.
Restoring Neutra's buildings cost much more than the original construction did.
    It's the same for applications.
A serious revamping of AppleWorks would have required a lot of bucks resulting in a probably "not really up to date" product.
Apple choose to leave it and enter a new era with iWork.
At this time, if I remember well, we are not allowed to set Pages's default save format to .doc but as the app is young, you may send a request about this feature to Apple. They are listening and I will not post to them telling: don't do that

  • Pages on my Mac will not open iCloud documents.

I am suddenly unable to open any of my saved documents on iCloud from Pages on my Mac. I can download them via the web app, and I can open them on my iphone. However, when I select the file in Pages on my Mac, then click open. Nothing happens.

    Hey swpinsent,
There's an article that can help you troubleshoot the issue you're experiencing with Pages.
Mac OS X: How to troubleshoot a software issue
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1199
Below is the section for a software issue that occurs in one application only:
For example, one application does not open or unexpectedly quits. Mac OS X v10.4 and later can help with applications that unexpectedly quit by offering to open the application with default settings. If this doesn't help, skip to "Drag the application to the Trash and reinstall it if the issue persists..." below.
Make sure you are using the latest version of the software. Check with the manufacturer if the product is published by a third party.
If the issue only occurs while using a specific document, try creating a new document or replacing your document with a backup. Your document may be damaged. If possible, try testing with either a new file or a known-good file.
Drag the application to the Trash and reinstall it if the issue persists. Some Apple applications that may have been included with your computer can be reinstalled by using the Install, Restore, or iLife disc that came with the computer. See these links for more information:
Mac OS X v10.6 Help: Reinstalling applications that came with your computer
Mac OS X v10.5.5 and later: Installing optional and bundled software
Custom installs in Mac OS X v10.4
    Hope that helps,

  • Save develop settings as default import

Jim Hess wrote in a post the other day
'In my case, I chose to adjust one of my images that closely represents my "normal" shooting style. I adjusted everything until that image looked the way I wanted it to look. Then I saved those settings as my default settings.'
I tried to do this save this morning instead of using the develop preset within the import session
I went up into the Develop menu and clicked on 'Set Default Settings'. An ominous message arrives including the ISO used, camera # type....hmmmm.....I think I have been here before.....and  previously I backed out and went with import presets.
Is this "Set Default Settings' menu choice the procedure for imbedding the basic adjustments desired at import? I have the preferences set to include 'make default specific to the Camera Iso setting' so does the preference setting override the 'make this the default' when I'm on a specific image which happens to have an ISO 400?
    Rose

Save the adjustment to an Image Adjustment Preset.  You can then apply the Preset (even on import, if you want).
Note that for RAW files, you can also alter the settings in the RAW Fine Tuning Brick, and save them as a default that is always applied to files from your camera.
Do you have a hardware-calibrated monitor?  If you are making exposure decisions based on sight, it is important that you are correcting to a standard (calibration calibrates your monitor to a standard) and not wasting your time correcting for out-of-standard devices.

Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.
