Pages tear when scrolling

I have been having odd things happen when scolling, only starting in the last week or so. When I scroll down the page, I get partway down and then the upper part stops scrolling and the lower part scrolls under it. The opposite thing happens if I scroll up – the lower part stops scrolling and the upper part scrolls under it. Very bizarre, intermittent behavior, only with some pages.
I'm not using CopyPaste, as are folks on another thread. I have not installed any new preference panes or other programs since this has started, at least that I recall.
Any others with this problem? Restarting Safari does not help.

I may have discovered the culprit: I recall I
upgraded Sidetrack to 1.3 and then got the problem.
I just reinstalled it and pages that routinely tore
appear to be OK now. Got a great screen shot off
one, though! I'll keep an eye on this and if it's
solved, I'll close the case.
Allan did you update sidetrack to 1.3 before you reinstalled it,
or had you removed it and ran permissions or something, and
reinstalled now works well.
I just went 2 versiontracker to see what it is, A trackpad driver for PowerBook/iBook, maybe it was a permissions problem did you
get any errors when you ran repairs ?
I would like to see screen shot if you want to sent it.
sent to [email protected] okay?
great that the pages appeaar ok. Might as well
keep a look out till you are sure its resolved.
You know there is also another update to Tiger 10.4.5
when you do it, do the Combo on Apple downloads.
don't forget to run permission, before & after.
keep us posted.
regards, Eme:)

  • Pages tear when scrolling vertically

This is hard to describe, but, with Safari 1.3.1, OS 10.3.9, when I scroll vertically in Safari on SOME web pages (including some Apple pages), the top part of the screen will stay put, while the lower part seems to slide under the upper part. If I scroll far enough, it will suddenly jump into place. On some pages, this happens at different locations across the screen--it may have something to do with frames, dynamic menus, etc. IOW, maybe the center will slide under at a higher (on the screen) location than the right column. It's rather strange. I wondered if it could be some problem with my Kensington trackball with a scroll ring, but I swapped it for the Apple mouse and uninstalled the Kensington software, with no effect. Sometimes, clearing the cache (and, other times, clearing both Java caches) seemed to help, but not always. Also, I found the same problem with my PowerBook, which has never had any non-Apple input device software installed. Also, it happens in Safari and Shiira (which I think uses the same rendering engine as Safari), not in Firefox 1.5 (though the scrolling in Firefox is very jerky, as others seem to have mentioned) nor in iCab. (All except Safari are the latest versions; Safari is the latest version for Panther.)
Here's a page that shows the problem:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mac.html
The problem occurs whether I use the scroll ring on the trackball, the arrows on the vertical scroll bar, or click on the thumb button and move it. In some cases, using the page up and page down buttons will avoid the problem, but not always. Moving the cursor over some parts of the page will cause them to suddenly change, even without clicking/selecting anything.
    Any ideas?

    Hi George
I have had some strange issues like that, including the mouse curser slipping under the top of page. I use an apple mouse. i did not see the problem
when I clicked on the link u posted it took me to quicktime is that the page you meant?
Do you run permission repairs for & after software updates, though I do not know if it has anything to do with this it is a nesscessary maintance that helps things running well. Great L4s & some of their links.( organized by Red Dwarf in User Tips)

  • Fine Tearing when scrolling pages, norm?

    Hi All
Whenever I scroll quickly down web pages, the main directory of all the boards of this forum is a prime example.
The problem is similar to tearing but it more just affects text causing it to appear and to disappear and reappear quickly. It is hard to describe but it doesn't happen on my old laptop or my windows machine.
Normally I would not ask but it hurts my eyes to look at. Wondered if anyone had a similar problem?

  • Firefox Tearing when Scrolling - How to enable Vsync.

    Peace ppl!
I'm experiencing firefox tearing issues/visual artifacts when smooth scrolling is enabled on aur/firefox-pgo 3.6.6-1.
One way to solve this is to enable vsync. Simply enable desktop effects on kde4 and enable vsync.
    $ glxgears
Running synchronized to the vertical refresh.  The framerate should be
approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
    263 frames in 5.0 seconds = 52.432 FPS
The fps is close to the monitor refresh rate of 60Hz.
The weird thing is if I disable desktop effects thereafter, the vsync setting still stands!
Is there a way to enable vsync without going through all this?
Perhaps through an xorg.conf setting. (Don't have one now; not required)
    Thanks in advance!

  • Page jumps when scrolling in adobe reader 9 on a Sunray pc

When viewing a pdf on the sunray machines the pdf jumps when being scrolled.  It appears to break up into sections as you scroll. but can be viewed fine on a general pc.  Can we fix this

    I also have this problem. 2 gig ram / athlon 2400+ @ 2.0 GHz. Adobe reader 9.0.0.0
Save yourself the headache and dump adobe. Since they haven't responded i'd give up hope on them. I'm using an alternative open source alternative. sumatra pdf. Initially opening a pdf it's quite slow but after that it's infinitely better than scrolling h311 with adobe's reader.

  • New iMac late 2012 judders when scrolling up and down

new iMac 27" i7 quad core late 2012 the web pages judders when scrolling up and down

    Hi,
The judder was up and down when scrolling, I think that I have resolved the issue regarding the juddering, I looked at what software I had recently installed, first I removed the software that I think was causing the juddering problem! it was a bit better but did not remove it completely, AutoCAD 2013 was the software that seems to be the culprit which must have messed up the graphics diver someway.
In the end I erased the hard drive and set the OS back to it's factory settings, which has resolved this juddering issue.
NB: when restoring the OS I lost ilife.

  • Only in FF, Not Mac OS folder windows, when scrolling arrows are held at length scrollbar keeps scrolling to the top or bottom of long web pages with no way to stop this action.

When ever I single click the up or down ARROWS on my Firefox browser windows, they respond just as they are set to in my Mac OS 10.4.10/System Preferences/Appearance menu. They Jump to few lines up or down the Browser Page. Smooth Scrolling is not checked On. But, even when it was checked On, this same anomaly is Repeatable.
    - Holding either Arrow Button longer than a second or 2 will result in the page scrolling All The Way in the direction of the selected arrow.
The Arrow button that was selected stays highlighted until the scroll bar reaches its end.
This anomaly does not happen in any other Mac App on my computer. Each time I select and Hold either scroll Arrow Button on any other app. or any folder on my desktop, as soon as I release the button the scrolling action stops immediately.

You need to reset your default settings. This just happened to me recently!
Exit out of all fire fox programs the go to
    Start>Run> (firefox -safe-mode)
a box will come up and press reset default settings

  • Ripple effect in Safari browser when scrolling pages

When scrolling through a web page in safari using my new iMac Core Duo 17" there is a "ripple" effect in the middle of the page I'm scrolling through. This happens when I use the mouse to drag the scroll bar on Safari. Happens no matter what web page I'm on. This didn't happen on my iMac G5.
    Any else have this problem?

The threads I saw on this are locked... I had no problems with anything UNTIL the 10.4.5. update - now I have the Safari "ripple effect" on almost every web page. I have to select / highlight the "rippled" portion of the page in order to view it properly...Wonder why this happened to my machine after the update? The update seems to have fixed this problem for others...

  • Pages break up when scrolling

When I scroll pages in Safari, they 'fracture' - i.e. graphics break up, lines of text split, yet when I try to capture the screen to illustrate the problem it fixes itself. What's going on?? Only noticed this since upgrading to 10.5.4 and Safari 3.1.2.

Hi There, Also having breakup lines whilst scrolling in Safari. Doesn't do it on Firefox. Also when scrolling in "Events" in iPhoto Library, the thumbnails break up with white flashing rectangles. Doesn't look so good! Any ideas? Looks like the display doesn't like it somehow.

  • Display ripples when scrolling ANY types of pages

This is driving me nuts. And giving me headaches. And making my head spin.
My MBPro 2.4Ghz with infamous Nvidia 8600M GT 256MB graphics card is the culprit. A real letdown compared to all the Macs in general, and the portables in particular, that I've used over the last 20 years.
As others have reported here, there is a MAJOR issue with "rippling" lines of text when scrolling web pages. But I am getting the same thing when scrolling ALL types of pages: web, text, spreadsheets, etc.
It happens both on the MBPro screen and on an external monitor.
It happens when scrolling with the trackpad or with a USB mouse.
    It happens at all times.
And, if this is possible, it seems to be getting worse. It's almost at the point where I have to TAKE MY EYES OFF THE SCREEN if I have to do any scrolling. If not, by the end of the work day, my head is spinning, my eyes are dead tired, I'm going cross-eyed and, more times than not, I've got a headache from all the "visual effects".
I took my MBPro to an Authorized Apple Technician, to see if it had the defective Nvidia graphics card. I'd done a reformat and fresh install of 10.5.7 the night before.
The Nvidia test software, on an external HD, showed that I don't have a defective card.
Not a bid deal in the end, as they would have just installed the SAME type of graphics card and logic board.
I convinced the Apple Tech to use my MBPro for a few minutes, just to show him what I meant. He said he was surprised to see the ripples, that he'd never really focused on that in the past. But they were definitely there, and he wasn't able to say that it was "normal", as he really wanted to do.
He said he thought it might be a problem with the NVIDIA DRIVERS.
He then went onto his 24" iMac with Nvidia graphics card and, lo and behold, he had THE SAME RIPPLING while scrolling longer web and text pages.
This made him more convinced that it must be "imperfect" Nvidia drivers in Mac OS 10.5. And he said the only thing to do was hope that Apple and Nvidia get these drivers perfected and thoroughly tested in the near future, either by specific update or IN SNOW LEOPARD.
What's frustrating is that I have NEVER had this problem with either our iMac 20" Core Duo, which has an ATI graphics card, or our Macbook Core 2 Duo with GMA 950 Intel chipset. That is, with much older, less powerful Intel Macs, but ones that DON'T HAVE NVIDIA graphics cards.

I call it more of a flicker, but I also experience this issue with a MBP (led backlight). It is not browser dependant, but as Safari scrolls smoothly, it is much more apparent with this than other browsers.
Here is a perfect example, watch the sidebars on this page while scrolling :
    http://www.theautochannel.com
It's also particularly bad with this site (apple discussion board), and others with high contrast text, the text flickers/ripples very badly This never happened with my Powerbook display. Is this an issue or simply inherent with these displays. Personally, it is giving me headaches when scrolling through large amounts of text (which I often do for work), and rendering this laptop virtually unusable for me.
I'm surprised to find very few others complaining about this phenomenon, perhaps I'm not describing the issue well with my search terms. Has anyone heard of a solution?
    Thanks

  • 100% cpu when scrolling over 2 pages

When I scroll down or up in a PDF document and that two pages appears at the same time ( the bottom of page 1 and the top of page 2 ), the scrolling become very slow, and the cpu pop to 100%. I noticed that on all computers. If you want to see an extreme case, ask me to send you one of the PDF of a laboratory. In this one the scrolling go down to something like 2-3fps, that's incredible. In other pdf if slow down but not so much, but it still slow down.
I have a very recent computer with a x1400 inside, so it's not the tnt2 thing. I'm running on XP, and the version of the reader is 8.1.2. I already disabled all the "smooth" things to see if there is a difference, but none was noticed. Oh by the way it's not very huge documents, something around 16 pages.
I wonder if I can change something in the options to allow the reader to scroll softly and fast thruout an entire document? It's so disturbing that I found more usable to print the document than to review it in the reader.

I have exactly the same problem with version 8.1.2. I can read this document better on my old computer running version 5.1
