Pages Template issues on my Macbook

I was wondering if anyone can help me with an issue I am having with Pages '09
When I go to load up any of the multipage templates only the first page will open. It is very frustrating especially when the layout I want to cribb off of is one of the later pages. I can't seem to find where the actual files live on my hard drive that pages is pulling these templates from and I am fairly new to the iWork suite (finally gave up the ghost on Appleworks)

Chances are you did something different. From what I recall, my templates load up only the first page. That's how they were designed and saved. I just now tried some of Pages' built-in report templates. Only the first page is included in the document. I have to insert as per above for other pages.
I also noticed you can click the "Sections" icon in the toolbar: that will pop up a list of all templated sections as well, that you can select and insert into the document.
So with these templates, Apple's own, and even a set of third party ones I have, only the first page is displayed in the document on all of the ones I have used and tested. I checked the preferences but I don't see anything there for template settings that would help here.
Therefore, I think you have done something different, like maybe opened up different templates? Remember, you can create your own templates: just save the document as a template. For example, open up a template for a book, then insert all the sections, then save it as a template. When you open that template, all those pages will show up in the document without you having to insert them manually.
However, I like the fact that only one page is inserted when I first open a template, because I often don't use all of the templated pages in a report or book template, for instance. And I certainly don't use them in the order in which they are listed...

Copy/Send a blank pages file in the template styles you wish to transfer. Open the documents in pages on your MBA, then select 'Save as Template' under File in pages.

Adding Saved Searches task flow to a Page Template

I am trying to add the Spaces "Saved Searches" task flow to my custom page template. I have tried a few different approaches and none seem to be working.
First, I tried simply dragging and dropping the task flow from JDeveloper's Resource Palette into my template. JDeveloper created added the following to my template source code:

After uploading the changes to Spaces, there seemed to be no change to the rendered template.
Second, I tried to simply add the task flow to a page in my test space via composer. However, as soon as I click the "Add" button next to the Saved Searches task flow, the page goes blank (white screen of death) and the following message shows up in the spaces error logs:
javax.servlet.ServletException: com.sun.el.parser.ParseException: Encountered "\'" at line 1, column 65.
Finally, I looked at how the out of the box templates implement the saved searches functionality. It appears that the saved searches use a custom folder in the Default Navigation Model. I looked at the source in the Default Navigation Model and found the following node:

I copied the entire node and put it in my navigation model. Upon rendering the template, I can see the new node in the navigation but when I click on it, nothing happens.
Can someone please tell me if I am on the right track with any of these three approaches? Or where to look to diagnose the issues I am running into?

UPDATE: I updated the "activation" property in the page def for the allsavedsearches task flow to be "deferred". Now I am getting an ADF popup menu with two menu items: "My Searches" and "Other Members" but clicking on the items does not trigger anything...
Any thoughts? What additional information would be helpful for analyzing this issue?

I no longer have access to system folders that allow me to remove old or incorrect PAGES templates. Need to find out how to do that. The only way I can do it now is to blank the template and replace the bad template with a blank.

I don't if this issue is before or since installation of 10.8 (a nightmare in my case, which led to significant failure issues). And because I haven't tried to remove templates since finally managing to install 10.8 (now at 10.8.4), I don't know if this is typical of the newer OS or a problem. I've been a Mac user for more than 25 years, but I think I'm nearing the end of the road. By the way, I've never needed to do this before because the manuals always offered an answer... they don't seem to do that anymore. In any case, I don't know how this works... I'd prefer an email reply if that's possible. But that would probably be too easy, and I don't know how to get a reply.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. I think this is one of the problems Apple is creating by changing the OS so often. I had fomer colleagues at [a major aerospace contractor] who told me that so many original files were ultimately lost because of the deadly change in the "Save As" operation that they are now afraid of every OS update. Apple has badly damaged their support base with that very prominent company (they won't update now until they've fully examined and understand changes in the pre-conditioned nature of OS computer functions), and they are a whole lot less enthaled with Mac-related equipment/software. Can't blame them, I too used orginal files that way (as easy-to-use templates), and lost some important files before I realized what was happening (to late to revert). Companies should not have to retrain employees each time an OS gets an update, it's can be very expensive several different ways. They learned a painful lesson with that one. And because I'm now retired and don't use multiple devices, I need iCloud like I need a hole in the head... but I'm told there's no way to keep Apple out of my computer. Fortunately, because of major problems when initially installing Mountain Lion, one hold-over of the hardware/software damage I experienced was that iCloud can no longer access my computer even though everything else is working fine again. That was the only "good luck" I had as a result of that expensive nightmare.

Having issues with 13" MacBook Pro. Running very slow and blank screen and sleep mode.

Bought my MBPro summer 2009. About a month / 6 weeks ago it began to run extremely slow at points. Now it is running poorly and getting very slow on a daily basis, to the point where it will not open applications, documents or even web pages for in excess of 5 minutes. I'm beginning to lose patience!
Also at the exact same time of these performance issues occuring, my MacBook Pro will not awaken from sleep mode when the lid is closed. Showing a blank dark screen and having to hard reset in order to boot up my system again and get it running.
What is the best solution in order to resolve these issues?

How do you store Pages templates in iCloud?

I have a MacBook Pro and an iPad 2 and have made several templates in Pages on my MacBook and now want those to be on my iPad, but it says the file format is not supported. Is there any chance this will be coming to the iCloud or is it a pipedream? It's really useless for me to have Pages now because I need the templates for school and work and it ends up making more work for me that I cannot just use

Create the Template. Go to: File > Save as Template. Select iCloud from the drop down menu. Click Save.

Stretch height in a page Template

jsp includes should be added using the f:subview tag.
However, since the template is meant to be the blueprint for other pages. Why do you use a page fragment and don't add the searchregion directly into it ? Somehow I don't see sense in what you are doing

Bug with page templates

I mentioned this in another thread, which was about something completely different, so I thought I'd raise it separately so that it wasn't missed.
In page templates (not sute if this is introduced in 4 or not) but you cannot have the #TAB_CELL# substitution after #BOX_BODY# as it's not substituted. This can be easily reproduced by editing the page template to move the position of this substitution string.
Is this a known bug?

I'm beginning to doubt there is a point in templates when you have to guess what Oracle believe people will do 99% of the time.
That was two years ago, so hopefully someone will find Carl's notes soon... or see that really templates should allow developers the flexibility to decide how their application should look. :-) I'm sure this could be corrected to allow full flexibility especially when it's clearly a known issue.

How to share pages template with word users?

I made a pages template with placeholder text and need word users to fill in the placeholders, how do I save this template to share it with word users?

The template has colored shapes, therefore upon export it changes the formatting and nothing lines up-of course!
When I export it and open it in on my old macbook(OSX10.6.8) in word for mac 2004 it opens as a document not a template. The export is as a document, not a template, maybe it is not possible-ugh!

Preview Page Templates on Firefox not working if off https domains...

I thought it was me just losing it after a very long day but it has been confirmed with that if you are in BC via the worldsecuresystems domain and choose to preview a page template then it won't dislpay correctly. Previewing pages is fine.
Thanks to the investigations by Abhishek Maurya on the chat support he identified that Firefox is blocking the non secure content on the page, http://prntscr.com/3ezuxr which is knd of important.
The problem does not occur in IE at least.

All your internal stuff like scripts etc should be relative referenced. The issue does occur in IE it just behaves a bit differently Greg.
Cross domain is not a browser thing but a web thing.
Certificates will not validate when you have this sort of thing occur.
If your using 3rd party services like google fonts you should look to use // instead of http:// in front of the URL.

IE (6 and 8) and different page template Body problem

Hi - is that normal that IE don't recognize page template body? I have a structure like this:
page template body 1:
column 1 | column 2
page template body 2:
column 1
everything work fine in firefox and chrome (I'll check also safari and opera) but not in IE.
In IE (6 or 8) I have page template body 2 on the right of page template body 1 (not bottom the region).
Anyone know how to fix this? of course in the easiest way :)

I have had this issue often, and I finally figured out a workaround:
You have to place a hidden REGION right where the breaking/newline (or whatever is happening with the in the template) isn't occuring properly.
This will force a break.
So I created a new region:
Type: HTMLText
Template: Button Region without Title
Region Source:
<br>
& nbsp ;(or something similar)
Condition (optional): Client Browser is Internet Explorer

Is there a parameter (application, export, template, instance level) that we can set to prevent this ?

Hi Patrick,
The version info is: wwv_flow_api.set_version(p_version_yyyy_mm_dd=>'2009.01.12');
This should be wwv_flow_api.set_version(p_version_yyyy_mm_dd=>'2012.01.01');
... but this error is due to a manual modification of the export file.
We parameterise some values, so that the we can use the old-school DEFINE variables in our deploy process via SQL/plus.
One of the developers made a copy-paste error when doing that ...
So there is no bug !

Nesting page templates

Hi!
Can someone explain why it is not recommended to use page tmpletes nested in other pages / page templetes???

Section 17.3 Using Page Templates at the end of section there is very remarkable note:
Note: You cannot nest page templates inside other page templates.
I wonder what does this mean. I succesfuly used page templates nested inside page which already have a sorounding template. Even the nested template has a pageDef for it's own. If everything is properly set in accordance to Dev's Guide, I have no issues at all.
So, as the nesting of page templates is very useful (avoiding the restrictions of fragments/regions and no PPR to parent page), I relly wonder what is the problem here.

there is no problem in fact other than the risk of recursions. The current state though is that the designtime doesn't support template nesting. However, at runtime this works and can be configured.

Urgent: Problems with ALUI 6.5 page template

Hi,
i did a portal using Aqualogic 6.5.
I have 2 page templates, 1 for the homepage and 1 for the content pages.
The homepage page inherit from the homepage template and the content pages inherit from the content page template.
The client asked me to change the layout of the pages.
I changed the homepage template layout but the changes don't affect the homepage page.
Why ?

Page Template Popup with Dynamic Region TaskFlow

I have a Page Template that is used extensively in my application to provide a consistent explorer panel containing tree links to various pages in the application. I'm trying now to enable users to edit configuration via a tree link. I would like to implement this as a Popup in the page template which contains a dynamic region that contains a bounded Task FLow (so I can control the transaction for the edit activity). I'm running into all manner of issues...

When I attempt to use the link to the popup, the popup displays but the region content does not. Is this a scoping issue?

Again, as I'm quite new to ADF I don't know how to overcome or avoid these issues, or whether there is a better method to achieve an edit capability in a popup window from a page template.

Hello again. I've managed to get the dynamic region displaying once I restarted JDeveloper and re-created the Region and backingBean. This has happened before - is JDeveloper known to get "confused" (like me!) in this way?
There are still issues though. The backingBean contains a PopupCanceledListener as follows:
    public void cancelPopup(PopupCanceledEvent pce) {
        System.out.println("CANCEL POPUP - Current Task FLow now empty");
        currentTaskFlowId = emptyTaskFlowId; // where emptyTaskFlowId = ""
        System.out.println("CANCEL currentTaskFlowId = " + currentTaskFlowId);
    }Simple enough, but the dynamicTaskFlowId is not holding its cleared value. Subsequent call to the getter shows a non-null value...?
The Popup has the ContentDelivery="lazyUncached" and ChildCreation="deferred". The TaskFlow Binding has Refresh="default" and activation="deferred". With these property values the Popup is displays the correct value on its first use but then keeps that same value on any subsequent selection. I don't know whether this is because of the TaskFlow not correctly resetting or something else...
Can anyone help me please. This is beyond frustrating. The behaviour of these various property settings is not at all predictable for me... Thanks.
