Pages Text Box Question

Can I create a text box in Pages that can automatically scale vertically to fit the text inside?
I'm trying to create a modular element for a template that someone can paste any amount of text into without having to manually change the vertical scale of the text box.

Answered my own question.
Instead of creating a text box, create a table cell.

Scrolling Text Box question

I'm changing a site for a friend. She wants to add a scrolling text box with a bio of herself on the grid we're already using on her page. The problems I'm having are it's difficult to resize the box once on the grid (you can't) and I keep missing anything that looks like the ability to scroll up and down on the text box. I'm sure I'm missing something which is why I'm here. :-)

check out the overflow:scroll command in the css - I'm not sure how this works with grids, however - but it could be a starting point....

LOCK Text Box Question

Hi guys,
Is it possible to lock a text box but be able to edit the text? I don't want the position of the text to change but since we are using this page as a template I would like the text to be editable.

Locking a text box disable the edit function.
No way to change this behavior.

Pages text boxes

I just wanted to have a plain sheet of paper to type a letter with drag and drop icons. I chose Pages, word processing, blank sheet. I now have little boxes with plus signs, I can't move the text, I can't control the cursor. I am using Pages '08 on a MBP 10.6.8. Thank you for help. Arudi

I have all objects, no text, four objects per line, four lines per page.
I started putting words under the objects with the text boxes, then deleting the text boxes. Then the small boxes with the plus sign (⊞) appeared. They seem to be connected with the larger text box.
I can delete them if I put them in a box and click delete. The problem is, I can't get the boxes off the text, and if I click delete, it also deletes the text.
I would like to get rid of the boxes all together.
I watched the Pages tutorial but it didn't mention the box problem. I looked through many discussions, but saw nothing about this.
I looked for help on 'HELP' but nothing.
For the last year I have used Pages for a 150 page project and had no boxes, so I must have done something different.
If I click on the blank page, the cursor is not there unless I click in a certain spot. I have to click around before I find the spot, or the boxes come up in certain spots.
I copy and pasted all the objects onto a new 'pages layout' to see if it was different. I can't get a cursor or box anywhere. The objects pasted okay but no cursor so I can add text.
I unclicked 'object causes wrap' but it changed nothing. I never put anything on top of anything esle.

Overset text box question

All,
I upgraded to CS6 from CS5.5 (windows 7-64)
After opening a indesign 5.5 document in 6. Many of the text boxes become 'overset' when trying to alter the text with in the cells etc etc.
Also, deleting or find and replacing the text also changes the box to overset.
Just as strange, even trying to re-size the box creates the overset.
all I did here was drag the corner
Has anyone else run accross this?
any ideas on how to fix or work around?
PS: tried the file on multiple machines with same results.

This isn't terribly surprising. The text engine usually changes from version to version so text flow won't be exactly the same. When you open an old file in a new version, though, ID will not recompose the story until you actually try to work with it in some way, hence the change when you altered the frame.

How to link a text box to an anchor frame in the master pages?

Ok, as the title states, we are trying to figure out if it is possible to link a text box to an anchor frame in the master page. When you look at our Master Page layout, we have a text box in the upper left hand corner of the left hand page, this is used for our machine serial numbers. Then we have an anchor frame that automatically fills out the figure number. Let's say I have pages 2 & 3 (left & right), they have a S/N at the top of the page for the machine, then pages 4 & 5 have a different S/N. If I have to add more pages in between pages 2 & 3 (bumping the current 4 & 5 to 6 & 7), the anchor frame bumps to the next page, but the S/N text box doesn't. Is there a way to fix it so that they both move to the next page? Thanks for the help.
P.S. I can include images and other info if needed.

Master Page:
This is the master page set up, the "Page Text Box" has the flow set to "B" while the S/N text box has the flow set to "A". This setup is for our parts manuals, the left page is usually an illustration while the right page is usually a parts list. The text box, anchored frame & paragraph tag are empty in the master page set up. The "page text box" has a flow of "B" and the "S/N text box" has a master flow of "A".
Body Page 1:
When we create new pages, the paragraph tag automatically fills in the figure title on the left page, then we add an anchor frame within the text box to hold the illustration. You will notice that I added in a "test" serial number at the top of the page. Now if I need to go back and add two pages before this, the anchor frame, illustration and parts list will move to a new page, but the S/N text box will not. The "Before S/N TBD" would stay on the original page.
This is what happens, the text box containing the illustration and the parts list "bump" to the next page, but the S/N text box does not. So the question we have is there a way to link that text box to the page so when we create new pages the S/N text box moves with the illustration.

Overset text will not go into the text box that is part of the master for the next page

I am trying to (first time user) set up a simple trade-paperback sized book with some photos. Have set up several masters for chapter title pages, chapter inner pages, etc. When I copy text out of Word into InDesign, (copy/paste) the text overset box appears. I load it, then go to the next page, which I have already formatted using one of the masters. But when I select the desired text box ((Ctrl/shft) and click, the overset text forms a new text box, What am I doing wrong? thanks

I have done, this did work right for at least the left side of the spread, but never for the right side -
Make sure the left and right page master page text frames are threaded View>Extras>Show Text Threads. Here I have left and right page text boxes threaded on my A-master spread:
Checking Smart Text Reflow can make adding long text to master frames easier:
With Smart Text Reflow enabled I've released the master page text box on page 1, note the released frame has a solid border, while the unreleased master page frames on subsequent pages are dotted indicating they are still master page items and not page items.

Highlighting text box for multiple choice presentation.

I'm making a multiple choice presentation and need help highlighting the correct answers.
I'm using Keynote v5.3 and here is the format of my slides:
Text box - Question
Text box - (A) Answer A
Text box - (B) Answer B
Text box - (C) Answer C
Text box - (D) Answer D
When I click to advance, the desired effect I'd like is for the correct answer to turn red in order to let the class know that it's the correct answer.
I looked on the Build Inspector tool but the only Effects that appear in the Action section are Move, Opacity, Rotate and Scale. None which I don't want.
Is there a way to animate the correct answer/text box to change color?

builds only work in linear order ( 1, then 2, then 3, then 4 ) they don't run in a random access selection,
( 4, 1, 2, 3 ) which is what would be required in the method you describe.
the way to do this is to use hyperlinks from the first slide to four other slides
on slide 1:
type the question and the multiple choice statements
draw a shape beside each statement and use this as a hyperlink button to the respective slide number
select each shape in turn:
inspector > hyperlink > enable hyperlink > link to slide and select the respective slide number
when you click on button A, it will display the the responce to choice d
by the way, viewers have been taught that colours have certain associations ( country dependant of course)
such as red for danger so
the traditional colour to use for a correct answer is GREEN
the traditional colour to use for an incorrect answer is RED

Indesign tables – alternating fills over multiple text boxes

Here is the issue – I have a document FULL of tables, for a schedule of meetings, with alternating fills of gray and white. Often, the table hits the end of a page/text box and runs over to the next. The header row repeats (contains the time for the meetings, so that's great), but the alternating fills do not reset (the screenshot shows what is happening now).
In other words, if the table splits on a gray cell, the top of the next page/text box has a white cell. I want every text box to begin with the header row and a gray fill. Right now I can only figure how to do it manually, splitting each table at the break point.
The reason this is key is that the schedule changes rapidly up until the print date, so often cells shift around, making a manual series of text boxes, to say the least, frustrating to work with.

Linked Text Boxes

I need to create a linked text box allows text to automatically flow from say the bottom of page 1 to the top of page 2. I created a two page document using the "blank" template. Page 1 is 2-column and Page 2 is single column. Text is not flowing from Page 1 to Page 2.

... does that mean I would literally have to delete Pages' text boxes and add my own in manually, then link them? (If so I find that difficult to believe that a user would have to go through so much manual work for something so simple).
If I have to do this manually, how do I delete Pages' text boxes so I can put my own in the same place?

If you want to flow text from two columns to a single column, you do indeed need to use manual boxes -- there is no way (currently) in Pages to do this with the "default" text boxes. You don't need to delete Pages default boxes (and in fact you can't) -- instead, just stretch a box of the appropriate size on the page, pour all the text into it that you have, and when it overfills, click the small blue "tab" at the right side of the box to create a second text box that is linked to the first. This one can be moved where you like, including to a new page.

How to center Text Box on Web Page? -- Web dev with Word 2013

I'm trying to assist a user who wants to use Word 2013 for simple web page development.
There are many tools but they want to use Word 2013.
Actually have it working by saving the Word 2013 files as web pages... like index.htm, about.htm, etc.
The problem is when we use the "Insert" tab in Word to create a "Text Box" or a "Shape" ...
And align it centered on the page... it looks fine in Word but when we open it with a web browser the "Text Box" or "shape" are no longeer centered.
We thought we had it fixed by making the "Text Box" Layout Options "In Line with Text" but again... looks fine in Word but not in a web browser.
The question: How can we get a "Text Box" in Word 2013 to appear centered on a web page?

For webpage design, I would suggest customized form under develop tab on the Ribbon over insert object directly. I tested from my side, using customized form will lock the object position on the
page.

Text box continuing from one page to the next

I am using LiveCycle Designer ES to create land use application forms. I need to be able to create a text box that will expand with whatever amount of information the user needs to submit. These boxes need to be able to cover anywhere from 5 lines to possibly 2 pages. The information or next question and remaining items in the application need to be able to move down the pages to allow for various amounts of information in the text boxes submitted by the user. The box I created will take any amount of information but it scrolls it so when you print out the application you have a small plus sign (+)in the lower right hand corner but the information within the box does not print out. Is it possible to create such a box?

You need to make sure that your form is saved as a Dynamic XML Form in the save-as dialog.
Next you will need to set the page to a Flowed layout, see Object > Subform palette and change the type from Positioned to Flowed. This will probably mess up your layout. If so click undo and work through your objects, grouping objects that don't grow and placing them in Positioned subforms. Then when you change the page layout to Flowed your form wont be changed too much. You will still probably need to make a few small changes to margins, etc.
The Flowed layout allows Acrobat/Reader to create new instances of the page if object grow beyond the bottom of the page.

Example 3 has an object that can grow in hright, but will not overflow onto a new page (probably what you have now). Example 4 has a diffeent Flowed page layout that will create a new page if the object overflows.
