Pages to Doc Compatibility Issues

Why can't Apple/Pages fix its compatibility issues w. Word? It let's U save a file as doc. but many changes made in doc. do not take (e.g. tables, indentations, and page brakes). Why does not Pages default to the folder I open a document in when I re-save the document? Even when opening a document and making a simple change and hitting Save, Pages takes me back to the root directory.  That makes no sense.  Arghhh!!

Given what you described, I'm quite sure that you didn't exported the document as a .doc file where it was stored the first time.
I repeat : when you open a .doc file to edit it, it's a foreign document and the app doesn't take care of its original location. What is meaningful for it is location of files using its native format.
From my point of view, the best scheme is to work always on the native Pages document (don't re-open a file exported as .doc). If changes are required, apply them in the Pages document, save it then (and only when it's saved as Pages) export it as .doc.
When I'm forced to create a Word document from Pages, I don't use File > Export …
I don't use Share > Export.
I use Save As the way you may see on this Screenshot:
This way the default location is the one where the Pages document was saved.
The changes in the layout aren't bugs but the results of deliberate design choices.
As I wrote, the goal was not to reproduce exactly in Word the layout of the Pages document.
It was just to give something readable.
The User Guide clearly states that differences may occur.
As far as I know, when you open on a PC a document created in Word on a mac, you are not sure that it will match exactly the original design.
During the export process, documents created in Pages will loose several of the features which make Pages an interesting tool. I hate M…Soft products but, if someone is forced to exchange on regular basis with Office users, iWork isn't the tool to use. Better work with Office or with one of its free clones.

  • HT202879 Newest version of pages and .doc compatibility

Will the newest version of pages in Mavericks open .doc documents created in Microsoft Office 2004? I was about to update my MacBook to Mavericks, and it says that Mavericks will no longer be compatible with Microsoft Office 2004. So instead, I was just going to buy Pages and open all of my .doc documents using that. Will this work?

In another post, I mentioned that I tested Pages v5.0.1 opening Word documents created from August 1998, but not earlier.
I work in an office space with mixed Macs and Windows machines. The Macs all use Office for Mac 2011. No Pages application is installed.

  • Localhosted HTML Page Windows7-XP compatibility issue

Hello everyone It's my first time doing a webpage, so I'm quite the noob, and I'm having a very difficult problem, i've made a webpage using Dreamweaver CS4 on Windows 7, lots of images, audio, backgrounds, etc. The thing is... If i send it  (the whole folder with the images, sounds, etc) to people which are using XP, they only see the text, nothing else, if i send it to people who use Win7, they can load the whole page, so, the problem resides in the image code, i know the locations are different between Xp and 7, so , is there a way to make the webpage independent from the operating system? i can't even edit the img src code, it's like <img src="Dreamweaver.png"/> and if I inspect it with opera, it's more  like  "file://localhost/C:/Users/Administrator/Desktop/Steluta/Dreamweaver.png". Is there any way to fix this without starting from scrap again?  I've tried moving them to C:\ drive and no luck after saving them.... I know xp is more like C:\documents and settings\user\desktop\steluta\dreamweaver.png   but,  i do want the webpage to be compatible with both xp and 7, it's a homework i have to do and i have no idea which operating system that highschool has.  I would deeply appreciate a solution , i want also to run the webpage from a CD.... Thanks a lot in advance xD !

i can post the entire code here... actually i have more pages  but i'll post the primary page

  • Pages '09 docs with imbedded images crash app after OS 10.6 upgrade

I'm unable to open Pages '09 docs with imbedded images (JPG, GIF, TIF, etc) since upgrading to 10.6. I have not seen the same behavior from Pages docs w/o imbedded images. Permission repair lists no errors; can re-install iWork '09 if needed. Below are portions of the report the OS sends back to Apple:
    PlugIn Path: /Library/Application Support/iWork '09/Frameworks/SFWordProcessing.framework/Versions/A/SFWordProcessing
    PlugIn Identifier: SFWordProcessing
    PlugIn Version: ??? (???)
    Exception Type: EXCBADACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: KERNINVALIDADDRESS at 0x0000000018ef5004
Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated!
    Thanks.

After further investigation, I need to refine my evaluation of the problem. I'm able to insert JPG, GIF, and TIF files taken from WWW or CS.
The issue is not with Pages, but with MakeMusic's Finale. You are able to export score/part examples as graphic files (TIF in v2008). As a music teacher, I'm importing those TIFs into pre-existing Pages documents for student assessment.
I've now been unable to open those TIFs directly in Preview or Finder Quick Look. It seems the expected information about a TIF in SN is no being produced by Finale.
I have consulted MakeMusic's forums and currently, there are no official statements from MakeMusic on the compatibility of 2008-2010 versions with SN.
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I'll have to wait out an update from MakeMusic.

  • Pages 09 docs don't play well with iPhone or Quick Look?

Hi - My friend emailed me to documents in Pages 09 format.
My iphone shows a sad little question mark that I have to zoom way in to see.
Quick Look on my mac shows me a pretty icon.
Are there any options short of finding a computer with iLife 09 installed to have a look at these?
    Cheers,
    Mike

Peggy - Thanks for researching this! If anyone knows of a publicly published list of issues (KBase article) - that would be a great thing to see so we can just wait for a fix.
Can you confirm the wording on the "package option" in Pages 09. I'm going to try to get my documents re-sent in a format my phone will see. Pages 08 is not an option (unless someone that purchased 09 can download the last version for compatibility issues such as this.) I looked at the user manual and it is pretty clear that by default - Pages 09 docs should work in preview mode.
    On Page 37...
<pre>5 If you don’t want the document to display a Quick Look in the Finder in
Mac OS X version 10.5 or later, deselect “Include preview in document.” </pre>
    Cheers and thanks again!

  • OSX 10.9.1 Compatibility issue with Sharp Aquos PN-L702B and PN-L802B

I have Mac Mini's connected to the Sharp Aquos PN-L702B and PN-L802B touch screens and after updating to 10.9.1 am experiencing what appears to be a compatibility issue with the Sharp TPM driver and the OSX 10.9.1.
Everything works perfectly previously on 10.8.4 and 10.8.5.  I did not test on 10.9.0 as I went straight to 10.9.1.  Anyone else having this problem?  Any thoughts on resolution?

OK so perserverance seems to have helped here - i used the cmd R function on start up to get to the page where i can re install OS X Lion - Safari now working.
However i have Office 2011 for MAC and now Excel wont start so i will post on another thread for help with this
Hope this helps if anyone has a similar issue

  • Mac / Adobe Compatibility Issues with Reader X1 & Acrobat X1

    I'm using Acrobat X1  11.0.10 and Reader 11.0.10 with Mac OS X ( 10.8.5).
In Reader, when I click the "show next page" down arrow, it takes around 5 seconds to jump to the next page. (scrolling to the next page via the scroll bar works fine).
In Acrobat, when I use the text edit tools, it can take up to 10 seconds before I can edit a word (remove or add a letter).Oftentimes, Acrobat will highlight the whole paragraph rather than just the word I select. (I think this is due to the lag time.) When I backspace to remove a word, nothing happens ... for several seconds. Then letters begin disappearing.
I reverted from Mavericks and Yosemite back to Lion (or Mountain Lion - I forget what they called 10.8.5) in the hopes of fixing this issue. When I say reverted back. I did a full install. Wiped the hard drive, loaded 10.8.5 and started this Mac as if it were new.
Is there a version of Reader and Acrobat that work with Mac OS X ( 10.8.5)?

    Hi,
Acrobat 11 is compatible with MAC 10.8.5. So, there are no compatibility issues.
Please let me know if this happens with every PDF or some specific one?
If specific, then please tell me what is the size of your PDF file.
You might also try repairing Acrobat from the Help menu.

  • Browser compatibility issues with different versions of IE

I'm looking for an online resource or book on identifying/troubleshooting JSP browser compatiblility issues focusing on recent versions of IE (5.0 - 6.0).
    Any sugguestions?

A JSP runs on a server. It is actually a servlet that merely outputs HTML (usually) to the browser. Your browser does not (really) know the difference between a JSP and a static HTML page and PERL cgi generated page. There is no interaction what-so-ever between the JSP portion and your browser. There will not be any books about compatibility issues between JSP and browsers since its a non-issue.
The previous reply suggesting JavaScript conflicts is entirely true. If you want a flipping nightmare job, write javascript that is compatible on NN 3.0 and above and IE 4.0 and above. It's a godd**ned mess.

  • 42SL417 Connection or Compatibility Issue with Explorer Cable Box 8642HDC

I have the TV listed above and recently switched to Brighthouse cable.  Intermittently my TV loses the connection to the cable box and the input information (1080i, 720p, etc) comes up across the top of the TV and the picture resets.  I had the cable guy out and he said that there was a compatibility issue between the TV and the cable box.  I didn't get all the information since he talked to my wife, I was at work.  I don't believe that this is the issue, but wanted to check to see if this was a known problem or if anyone has had a similar experience.  My firmware is 2.2.2, which I believe is the most current.  Any thoughts or ideas?  The best I could get from my wife was that the box was trying to communicate with the TV to maximize resolution and the delay creates the connection problem.  Before I call the cable company back, I wanted to get some opinions.  My thought is that there is a signal problem since the internet had connectivity problems as well.  He changed the cable on the internet connection and said that would fix that, but I can't believe they aren't related.

That is indeed the latest firmware.
You may want to perform a factory reset, as described on page 44 of your user's guide. After the reset, ensure your TV is off and unplug it for a few minutes. All your settings will be reset, so you will have to set up the TV again.
You might also want to try disabling CEC (page 39) or auto aspect ratio feature (page 47).
I don't know for sure that any of this will help, but these are your best bets. Unfortunately, if none of this helps, I'm out of ideas.

  • Spry accordion browser compatability issues

I am building my first site and was in the process of checking each page for browser compatability. this certain page has spry accordians and I have some error messages that I don't understand.
The first one says Line 48 has 2 errors in SpryAccordian.css.  I don't have any indication of what the problem is and where exactly line 48 is on the page. Is there a way for it to take you to that exact spot to show you where the problem is?
I clicked on get more info. and came to a page that doesn't seem to be addressing what my issue is. Don't understand that part.
How do I fix this and why did it happen?

  • Adobe Flash IDE: Migration/Compatibility issues between Adobe Flash Professional CS3 and CS5

    Hi,
Adobe Flash IDE: Adobe Flash CS3 Professional and Adobe Flash Professional CS5
I am facing some  migration/compatibility issues between Adobe Flash CS3 Professional and Adobe  Flash Professional CS5:
I am working on a project that has  been completely developed in CS3 earlier. When I am using CS5 (Flash Player 9 /  Flash Player 10) to compile the FLA files, it is creating some new issues like  some customized radio buttons are getting disappeared while viewing the SWF on a  web page etc.
So, I would like to  know:
    1) Is there any  migration/compatibility issue between Adobe Flash CS3 Professional and Adobe  Flash Professional CS5?
    2) If yes: Is there any patch  available from Adobe for it?
    3) If no: What could be the causes  and the best possible solutions for it?
Any help and support would be highly  appreciated. Many thanks in advance!

  • Dreamweaver CC may have a compatibility Issue with Dreamweaver CS6?

I installed Dreamweaver CC onto my laptop (Windows 7 OS).  I am able to build new web pages using Fluid Grid Layout.  But when I attempt to open previously designed web pages that were build using Dreamweaver CS6, Dreamweaver CC crashes.
I was told today, in Chat, by Technical Support, that it was a compatibility issue between Dreamweaver CC and Dreamweaver CS6 (for Fluid Grid).  Can this be confirmed?  I have no problems going back and rebuilding previously designed Fluid Grid web pages.  I just want to know that there is no fix/work around available?

    Hi Norv56,
I was alerted of this issue today. Would it be possible for you to send us your files for investigation? It would be difficult for us to investigate without those.
    Thanks,

  • Compatibility Issues with AS3 & 2

This question has a few parts actually. Let me lay down the
groundwork - I'm starting a new project, but I have yet to decide
whether or not I will create it in AS 2 or 3. One thing the swf
will do is load other swfs into it - it also will need to somehow
connect with these loaded SWFs and transfer data back and forth. I
understand the compatability issues associated with loading AS 2
    swfs into AS3 - see here -
    http://livedocs.macromedia.com/flex/2/docs/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=L iveDocs_Parts&file=00001801.html
At the bottom right of the chart, adobe suggests that AS 1.0
and 2.0 can "cross-script" with AS 3 using localconnection. There
are already SWFs developed that need to be loaded into my new
project, and I would like to create new SWFs as well, some of which
may benefit from being coded in AS 3 (as well as possibly being
created in Flex). I also think that overall my project will benefit
from using AS 3. However, there are a few issues that I can't
resolve - here are my problems -
If I create my project in AS 3, and then load SWFs that use
AS 2, the project can access the loaded SWF through a
localconnection - however, can they pass objects, like XMLNodes, to
each other, and each understand the other, even if one uses AS2 and
one uses AS3? Or can they only invoke functions on each other's
    sides...
If they cannot pass objects to each other, what I may
consider doing it creating the project in AS3 and requiring all
SWFs that are to be loaded into the main project to be rewritten in
AS3 - that way the loaded swfs can pass data safely to the loader.
My other question - supposing this is the case, say I want people
to be able to develop SWFs for my project, but they are used to
using the flash IDE - flash 9 wont be out for a few months...they
can create an .fla in flash 8, write actionscript classes in AS3,
then load it all into the flash9 preview and compile...making their
swf compatible with my project...can they use components, which are
coded in AS2? I dont think AS3 differs so much from AS2 that they
couldnt just code normally and then compile in the flash9 preview,
but what problems may arise from developing in this fashion? Would
that mean that people coding in AS2 could simply make a few
adjustments for AS3, load the .fla into the flash9 preview and
compile and make an SWF that is compatible and accesible from my
project? Any help on these issues would be very much appreciated -
    thanks!

I was trying to test this for you in AppleWorks 6 Windows XP in Parallels on my MacBook Pro, but each time I tried to open a draw file I had originally create on my Mac, AppleWorks 6 for Windows crashed.
I tried another, smaller draw document & it opens without problems & I can move the objects around. I'd suggest deleting the AppleWorks preferences, but I don't know where they are in Windows XP.
