I am done formating my book and ready to publish it.
When I export to epub, and open it on the ipad:
-some of the pages (that are suposed to have text) are blank,

-some are missing the headlines, chapter numbers... very ramdomly.
I am not sure what to do! please help!

How does it look on the Mac when you open the document? You can test it in the free Adobe Digital Editions 2.0.app.

  • Windows XP - Missing text when printing to Xerox Docucolor

Currently printing Illustrator CS3 from a Windows XP to a CREO driver running a Xerox Ducucolor 240.
Sent a document and discovered some of the text was missing. It was a label set up 2-up on the page and the missing text occurred in the upper label, but was not missing on the lower label.
I went back to see if I had not duplicated all of the label and discovered that the document was complete.
Without changing the document, I sent it again. This time it printed correctly.
What could make the document lose some of the content?

Something likely happened during the transmission of the job to the printer. It could be a fluke but if it happens again, you should check all your connections, condition of your wires and cables, and your power protection.
Could also have been a blip with Illy and/or whatever other apps you had running at the same time; a slight conflict somewhere occurring at the exact wrong nanosecond.
    ETA:
In other cases (though not in this one), it could be a font issue. Corrupt font, duplicate font on your system or with the printer. It could also be an issue with the Illy file itself; not exactly a bad idea to copy everything and place it in a new file.

  • Pages 5.2 Table missing text when printed

I created a document with several tables.  These tables contain algebra formulas with superscript.  I read in another forum that the issue may be the use of the superscript.  However their problem only occurred when printing the document as a PDF.  I am having the problem printing from both Pages and as a PDF.  Some superscript appears as it should.  Not all missing text is superscript.
Any ideas?  I hate to have to recreate this document in Word.  I took me forever to create.
    Mavericks 10.9.3
    Pages 5.2

Known limitation with Pages v5.2. If you had Pages ’09 installed before the upgrade downgrade to Pages v5.2, it was moved to /Applications/iWork ’09.
You will need to export from Pages v5.2 as Pages ’09 in order to process your work in the older Pages version. You will also need to open the Pages ’09 document either through that Applications file chooser, or via the right-click, contextual menu Open with > Pages (4.3). Double-clicking with both Pages installed will default to using Pages v5.2.
LibreOffice is a free alternative to MS Word, and works better with Mavericks than does OpenOffice.

  • Using Create PDF from Web Page; Resulting PDF is missing text

Trying to create pdf's from various web pages.  Generally process works very well but some pages have missing text and bad formatting.   Specifically; http://www.robinhood.ca/Recipes/Occasions/Spring/Apricot-Tartlets
When I create the PDF; I am missing the text under "directions" and the description is truncated and forced to the far right.
Seems like I am missing a formatting or font setting but I have adjusted everything I can think of and have had no luck.
    Running Acrobat Pro XI.
    Anybody have any thoughts?

yes; looking at the source; seems that <table> is being captured correctly but the part that is missing is a <div>.    I'm not an expert at deciphering the page source but seems like that is the problem.
    Is there a work around?
when I print via the firefox plugin it prints fine.  but i ultimately want to capture several layers on the site if I can get the formatting resolved.

  • PDF missing text when browsing or linking to a page

    Hello,
I have an issue with missing text in a PDF file when I try and browse directly to a page in a PDF. Interestingly, the text is not missing when you open the PDF and navigate to the same page from within the PDF. The first Character(s) of the title are missing.
The title of this page should say Criminal Justice, but the "C" is missing when you visit this link--
    http://www.northeast.edu/Degrees-and-Programs/pdfs/2010-Catalog.pdf#page=103
This only happens if you try to navigate directly to a page. If you use the pagers within the PDF then the text is fine. If you change the link in the url to represent the page you are trying to visit, the characters disappear again.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Derek

    Acrobat 9 (professional)

PDF file is published as compatible with version 6. Original document was published as PDF from Indesign.
Hmmm, I have tested on 4 machines and still get the same results. These machines are all XP/IE machines though. Any other thoughts?

  • Missing text in posts in Archive on Blog page

I am using it as a digital diary of my baby's development so am freaking out a bit. Any idea's on what is going wrong?? Thank you!

Welcome to the discussions. It's a common problem:

Basically iWeb's blog is buggy and, in the end, it comes down to this:

  • Missing Text In Pages 08 Document

I'm having an issue with a Pages 08 document. I recently opened it and seemingly random chunks of text are missing. The document retains the original formatting, so it looks as if the "missing" text was turned to white. But, that is not the case. It is missing altogether. What's even stranger, the missing text shows up in Quick Preview. Can anyone help?

You have to make sure you have the latest update of Pages'08. The version is 3.0.3
Also validate your fonts in the Font book in you Application folder. Delete duplicates.
It is always wise to do Repair Permission when having done a major installation like the system update.
Starts with these advises. There are others thing that can be tried too.

  • Pages 5.1 truncates text in tables

Just discovered that Pages 5.1 truncates text in tables when exported to Pdf's even when created in Numbers and pasted. Superscripts were missing. Sometimes regular text after superscrips were missing. Too bad.

It's a bug. Until fixed, you'll have to avoid baseline shift or use an earlier version of Pages. Submit Feedback from the Pages menu to let Apple know you are finding this bug.

  • Randomly Missing Text in PDF Created from FrameMaker

This problem relates to a structured FM document, but I suspect it might be a general issue and have posted it here in the general forum for that reason.
I am generating PDFs that are missing text somewhat randomly throughout. I tried searching the forum for solutions, but none of the suggested fixes worked and none of the posts specifically addressed the issue I am experiencing.
I am working in structured FM. The templates we use were originally created for FM8. We use both FM8 and FM10 in our work group. We are able to duplicate the same problem in both versions and on multiple computers.
I thought I had narrowed the problem down to certain paragraph formatting, since it only ocurs in three or four paragraph formats (a bullet list, table text, etc.) Garden variety formatting. But in most places in the document, these formats appear perfectly. The strangest occurence is a single intance where the page number is missing from the footer.
I thought it might be a font issue, as I've had similar issues in the past. I had a missing font warning in the console, but I am pretty sure that this has nothing to do with it, since they are fonts we are not using and all the other text from the same formats appears.
I tried turning off "Remember Missing Font Names" in preferences. No help.
I checked that the fonts are in the local directory and appear as embedded subsets in the PDF.
I also tried checking and unchecking the "Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts" option in the PDF output settings. Also no help.
The randomness of the missing fonts bewilders me and I've exhausted my own troubleshooting abilities. I would be happy to share a source file if anyone thinks they could help me that way.
    Thanks in advance,
    Douglas

  • Missing text in RoboHelp 7 when previewing/generating Frame files

This is a new issue for me. Until last week, it seemed to work fine. Now, though, whenever I import by reference my frame files I have noticed that, while they look fine in the Design view, when I click Preview it has missing text in parts. In one file, which was all text (no graphics), it was completely in Preview. Then, when I generated the help, that topic was still blank.
This doesn't always happen, though. Sometimes a topic is fine up to a point, then, all the text is gone, leaving only the screenshots. It generates that way also. On the other hand, some files come out fine, with no missing text. (This is only apparent in the Preview and generated help.)
I'm using TCS 1, that has RoboHelp 7, and I generate to WebHelp. I've applied an update that makes it 7.01.001.  I've also applied the "missing space" fix that Peter Grainge suggested (it worked ).
Like I said, TCS worked fine up to last week, then I started seeing these missing chunks of text. I tried creating a new RH project and starting all over, importing only one small file that had all text and no screenshots/graphics. Both the preview and generated help came out blank, although I could see it plainly in the Design view before generating.
Has anyone else had this issue, or know what it might be?

Below is from one topic that didn't show any content at all for Preview or generated output, (taken from RH).  That is, it showed nothing when I opened it in IE9, but in Firefox it displayed just fine. I tried replacing <head> with the one above (in the output), but it didn't seem to do anything. I'll keep trying, though!

  • Missing text after EXPORT from PMD to PDF

    Hi,
I have a document, designed through Adobe pagemaker 70, which I would like converted to PDF. Within Adobe PageMaker 70 I performed a File-->Export-->Adobe PDF, kept all the default options and managed to generate a PDF version of the *.PMD document. However, some of the text in the PDF document is missing. I searched on the internet and discovered one can do Document-->Examine Document within Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro to display any hidden text. Doing this I was able to see the missing text.
There is an image in the source Pagemaker document, but the image is not square but cropped along it's outside edge and the text flows around the edge (hope that makes sense).  What's puzzling is that in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro the generate PDF has the image displayed in a box and some (not all) the text behind this box is shown as hidden, where as in the source document all text flowing around the image is visible.
Can anyone please help with this problem and tell me how I can get the hidden text in my PDF document to display so it's visible in an Acrobat Reader or when printed?... I am still a bit of a newbie with both Pagemaker and Acrobat so your help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Sharon
PS: I have not uploaded the file but do not mind doing so if some one is able to help and requests either the source PMD file or the generated PDF file

    Hi,
The "question mark" displayed may be refereed to the missing font.
Are you trying to convert a public web page? if yes then please share a link so that i can also test it.

  • Missing Text when using CONVERT to PDF

I am using Acrobat Pro 9 in Wnidows 7 and Microsoft Publisher 2003.
When I use the CONVERT command to create a PDF - it is missing all of the text on the master page.
If I create the PDF with the PRINT command - everything is OK.
PS: The same Publisher File on another computer using Acrobat Pro 8 works fine - CONVERT or PRINT and no missing text
I prefer to use convert because sometimes the PRINT command drops some of the hyperlinks.

  • From Pages to epub format

On June 2, in a post entitled Pages to ePub, I evoked the challenge of transforming a novel, written in Pages, into epub format for the iPad device. Over the last week, I've succeeded in carrying out this task completely, in an essentially manual way.
Harrison Ainsworth's excellent tutorial on building epubs, which is perfectly sufficient for the basic stuff, can be found at
    http://www.hxa.name/articles/content/epub-guidehxa72412007.html
The first operation consisted of exporting all my Pages files as pure text. Then I used BBEdit (on my iMac) to insert countless pairs of XHTML tags: basically "p" tags. The steepest learning curve for me (as an enthusiastic Flash developer who hasn't touched HTML for years) was getting the knack of how to write a perfect XHTML-oriented Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) file.
Curiously, I was hung up by a trivial obstacle for several days: the necessity of zipping together all my files, to create the final .epub document. Here again, Harrison Ainsworth kindly solved this problem by pointing me to a magic tool (in fact a tiny AppleScript device) that can be found on a MobileRead forum at

While waiting to buy an iPad, I'm using the Adobe Digital Editions tool on my iMac to display my novel. Finally, the most convenient way of validating the end result consists of using the website at
    http://www.threepress.org/document/epub-validate
So, my 318-page novel is now ready (well, almost ready) to be published. I'm awaiting an ISBN number from the French authorities. And maybe I should get a professional graphics artist to produce a first-class cover illustration. For the moment, I haven't looked into the question of whether Apple will be prepared to accept my novel for their iBooks distribution (since I live in France).
I'm now faced by the following tough question: Should I carry on using Pages as a creative-writing tool, or would I be better off using an ebook-oriented environment right from the start? For the moment, there are two or three significant advantages in using Pages for creative writing: (1) There's no technical barrier between the author and his/her output. (2) I can distribute my stuff conveniently to friends and colleagues in the form of PDF files. (3) I can print out pages on A4 paper, for checking.
As much as I'm really fond of Pages, I'm not sure that these advantages justify the messy operations involved in moving to epub format. Consequently, I fear that I might soon be putting Pages in mothballs… alongside Textures, PageMaker and InDesign.

Honestly, at the moment if you are writing fiction, the easiest answer is to use Word or one of the Open Office variants and then use an aggregator and let them hassle with the coding parts (although I must point out that there are some difficulties for the future in terms of the publisher code and the ISBN ownership). Or else get really good at writing CSS/XHTML for yourself, or hire someone to do it for you. There are places where you can get a manuscript formatted for all the major outlets.
For any kind of heavily formatted book, I think the solution is to hunker down and wait a bit. People in the industry are still figuring out how to enforce a lot of formatting (there are some magnificent cookbooks in ibooks right now, for instance, but section headers and captions may not appear in the right place if you tinker with the settings), and it remains to be seen exactly what Steve Jobs meant by including PDFs in ibooks. He didn't say "sell PDFs through the ibookstore", and for material where there's any kind of fixed formatting, PDF is still the best way.
There are some serious bugs in InDesign CS5 for epub creation, although the chapter splitting feature is very tempting. But I think a lot of production shops are waiting to see if Adobe will release a point update before moving to CS5, for all the hassles in CS4.
The other big consideration is the platform wars. If you want maximum readership, you will need separate formatting for Nook, Kindle, ibooks, and now there is a new ereader that is going to be sold in all kinds of general purpose stores like CVS, for example. Formatting for that isn't known yet.
Eventually this will all shake out. They are working on a new standard for epub that should help with a lot of the current problems, but that's probably 18 months away or more.
Another option is to publish your book as an app. I did see a press release last week from someone who is selling a kit to turn a book into an app, but I haven't heard any feedback about whether it's any good or not. Or you can do what the Take Control series has been doing: sell a PDF and recommend GoodReader.
I was pretty excited about that blog post last fall where someone claimed to have found ebook creation embedded in the Pages package, but in reality right now it's a highly complex process, no matter where you start, so it's not surprising this hasn't come to pass. My own ideal would be to be able to lay out a book in Pages and use that as the basis for a PDF or just send a perfect epub straight to the ibookstore, but I'm not sanguine that this will ever be possible.

  • Export pages to epub in ipad

Please  tell about size limitations of images and videos while exporting pages to epub.

Follow Peter's advice. Pages ’09 v4.n can export to RTF.
In Pages v5+, you can press command+A to select all of your body text. Then from the Pages menu, Choose Services > New TextEdit Window Containing Selection.
This exploits the fact that Pages v5+ copies content to the Clipboard as RTF text, and its return to TextEdit is preserved.

  • Random missing text in brochure

I am new to this discussion board but am so happy to have found it.
I am working in XI.  I have two brochures that are missing some text on a few page and is fine on all others. The brochures were created in InDesign. I have opened one of the updated  bochures from last year and it is fine. It is also fine when I view from Acrobat.  Any suggestions on what the issue is or how to fix?
Thank you for any help you can offer.

No missing text in Safe Mode.
First time unchecking hardware acceleration fixed it. I decided to check if it was really that by checking it again and seeing if it disappeared again. It did. Then when I tried to uncheck it again, the text was still missing and I couldn't fix it again. But after some back and forth of switching from safe mode to normal and vice versa with the hardware acceleration unchecked, the text reappeared again. So I decided to leave it since its fixed for now. Thank you so much for your help.
