Pages transition in a catalogue with 5 pages

Hi everyone,
I have just creating a digital book with 5 pages. My doubt is reference to apply a pages transition and convert file in swf. When I open it, it appear first new blank page before my presentation. What can I do for avoing this extra page! Thanks!

Creating a large catalogue with InDesign CC

I am attempting to create a large catalogue with Adobe InDesign CC, and presume that the data-merge function is the way to do this? If i use the data merge function, will the template I create adjust to varying amounts of data within the data file - eg some items will take up a quarter of a page, other items may take up a full page. Also, if I use the data merge function, can I manipulate the data manually afterwards - eg for mistakes, alignments, etc? Thanks

How large is large?
You can use data merge. I would be tempted to run it one record per page and run one of the scripts that will connect each frame to flow into each other. Then make the needed frame adjustments on each page. Not as onerous as it sounds. A script can be had on this site:

Like Gert writes, edits in the merge file will require a new merge unless you purchase one of the commercial plug-ins.
Set up paragraph and character styles in a sample of the data so when laying out for the merge you can handle most all (or all) of the styles you need.
If you want a healthy learning curve, and you can obtain the data as an XML file, you can also go that route. Same procedure, make a smaller XML file, create the needed styles, map them and import the XML. Your frames will be whole page already and the data will flow from frame to frame without "stitching" the frames back together.

Integrating the punchout catalogue with the SRM procurement system

I am a supplier working on a project to integrate my punchout catalogue with my client's SRM procurement system.
- Where can I find technical information on OCI punchout in general?
- Where can I find documentation on the PurchaseOrderRequest SAP-XML document (eg. a description of the xml tags)?
- Specifically I would like to know how the XML tags in the PurchaseOrderRequest relate back to the OCIReturnFromCatalog form, ie., Is it possible to match up a PurchaseOrderRequest with the shopping trolley data that I previously sent back to the SRM system?

In short, you need to implement the *Ops interfaces (NodeOps, ObjectClassOps, SearchOps) as well as the Repository connection interfaces.
Create a jar with your integration classes, then place it in the system classpath. It may also work in the application classpath. After this is complete, you should be able to connect to by creating a Repository Configuration via the WLP admin tools.

Transitions don't work with tracks

For some reason transitions don't work for me when I have them on tracks. For instance, Ive set a "dissolve" transition to occur at the end of Track 1 as it moves to Track 2. Instead, it simply jumps to the next track with no transition. Transitions seem to work with menus no problem, but once a track is involved, they stop. Im using DVDSP 4.
Anyone have any insight?

Hmm... you \can do this if you really need to... but you have to do a bit of jiggery pokery.
Take the last frame of your footage in the first track and open it in photoshop. Export it as a still image and take it back in to DVDSP, and add it to the very end of the video in the track. Adjust the length of it to be about 3 seconds and highlight it, and now add the transition you want.
The length is critical - the transition needs to take place using some of this image as the material. If you use a short transition you can use a short span for the image. If you don't, you need to extend the image. What this means is that your user will see the still for longer than necessary if you get this wrong.

How do I save my catalogue, with only fotos without videos ?

CS4 When default transition will not insert with Ctrl-d

I've hit a snag today I hadn't seen before.
With two clips on the timeline, clip1 has the end trimed back 1 second, clip 2 has the beginning trimmed forward 1 second, so there is plenty of 'fat'.
Now with time head on the joint of those two clips, Ctrl-d will simply not insert a default transition.
In the past when this has happened its [b] ALWAYS [/b] been because 1 or the other side was not trimmed enough to accomodate the transition.
None of that is true this time. Default trans is set to 47 frames and I have 60 frames trimed (in all), and it is evenly trimmed.
What else might cause inserting the default trans to fail?
Oh, by the way the default audio transition inserts as expected with C-Shift-d.
I thought to check the short-cuts and make sure I hadn't set Ctrl-d to something else but since we do NOT have any way to quickly search with that dialog, I gave up after a few minutes... it would take 3 days of 12 hrs shifts to find it. But I'm nearly certain I haven't done that.

It sounds like you do have adequate Handles (that's the "fat"), and Jeff has probably nailed the issue - Track not Targeted, but another little glitch can be if the two Clips to not quite butt up to each other, i.e. a tiny gap between them. If, when you do Target that Track, you still cannot do Ctrl+D, check for a gap between the two Clips.

Making a catalogue with many products.

I'm currently working on a project for a 32-page catalogue.
I do not have any experience making a catalogue so I'd like to know if there's any particular plugins/features to aid me in this.
These products covering roughly 30 pages will have descriptions so I'd like to know any important things I need to know to make my life easier.
This catalogue is as you guessed - for Christmas, so I really don't have much time.
I'm an experienced designer and use InDesign a lot, but most of the features I don't use so I was wondering how good it was at making such a catalogue or if I should use a different program.

The above link is a google search for catalog plugins. There are quite a few, but they may be expensive, or useless, depending on how you are working. Most big catalogs are made from databases, and this is what the plugins are intended to use.
You should also investigate Data Merge. You certainly can add images that way, and you may also be able to add your product descriptions and pricing. This may not be quite as elegant, at least not initially, but it is built-in. You can create a merged document and a starting point, then tweak it to get the look you want, for example.
Post back with more questions or details, and I'm sure you will get a lot of help.

How to open Lightroom2 catalogues with Lightroom4.3?

Attempting to open a catalogue constructed with Lightroom2 causes both Lightroom4 & Bridge to crash; leaving Lightroom4 inoperable.

There is a hidden configuration setting for how the middle click should behave. Yours must have been changed somehow. Try these steps to change it back to normal:

# Type <code>about:config</code> into the Location bar.
# Type <code>browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick</code> into the Filter text box on that page. There should then only be one preference listed, and yours should be set to false.
# Right-click on the preference and choose the Reset option.
Once you've done that, middle-clicking on a link should open it in a new tab. Hope that helps.

Online catalogue with shopping basket functionality

We have an online shop in our company with shopping basket functionality that's running on a burning platform. They're asking if we can build a similar catalogue in newScale.
The way the online shop works right now is similar to many online shops: The customer searches for the good(s) -> selects the good(s) -> indicates quantity -> adds to 'shopping basket' -> submits order. The order is then sent to the backend system, which in this case is SAP.
Is newScale capable of this kind of catalogue? If yes, how and what's needed.

The short answer to your question is "yes".
If you are asking whether there is an ability to have RequestCenter function as the front-end for other systems, such as SAP, the anwser to this is "yes". This is typically done via task-level integration using ServiceLink. Depending upon your version of SAP, you might also be able to do this using a Web Services integration.
If you are asking whether there is an ability to have RequestCenter users of RequestCenter add more than one item to a Requisition, the anwser to this is also "yes".
If you can give us a bit more information about what you want to do, we can steer you in the best direction.

Problem importing catalogue with Windows 7

Hi,
I recently upgraded my PC from XP to Windows 7.
After I had installed Lightroom 2 I tried to import my old catalogue. This failed with the message " Lightroom cannot use the catalogue named "Lightroom 2 Catalog" because it is not writable and cannot be opened"
I re-tried with earlier backups of the catalog and has the same problem.
I noticed that during this process a similar file with the type .lock appears shortly and then disappears.
The error message looked like this:
Can anybody help me out please?

Check permission on the folder and the catalog file. Make sure that you are 'Owner'.

How to work on the same catalogue with 2 different HDD's

Hi,
This must have been asked many times but I have no idea how to search for it because I don't think I can articulate my question well enough but I'll try it here.
The case is that I have my laptop with LR4, I'm using an external HDD to store the RAW data from my camera. This HDD is fed by an external power line so it's not as portable (WD My Book3.5")
So the setup is that LR4 is linked to the external HDD. Whenever I download photos from my CF card, I tell LR4 to copy the images to the external HDD because I don't want my laptop to be filled with RAW. I only export the JPG's to my laptop.
Now here is the tricky part. When I travel, I take my laptop and my lighter external HDD (WD My passport 2.5") because it's portable and needs only USB power.
While traveling I import my photos using LR4 to the secondary HDD (my passport) and I edit them. When I get back home, I would like to "merge" my edited images from the portable HDD (my passport) to the primary HDD (my book).
So essentially I would like to streamline my work as if I'm managing one catalogue on two separate HDD.
I hope I was clear about my question

How does the last paragraph differ from the second?
The second paragraph describes how you would work while travelling, if you wanted to keep separate catalogs. The last paragraph describes what steps you would do when you returned.
If I'm connecting both HDD's and while in LR4 I drag the folder from My Passport to My Book, I not only change the physical location of the RAW data, I also make LR4 keep my entire edit info and metadata changes so I can revert whenever I want, much as if I have always used the same HDD all along.
Correct. The information that LR holds about a given image (including keywords, editing, etc) - is a completely separate consideration, than where the file is physically located. Changing LR's addressing of the image does not affect the image metadata, current edits, or the editing History.
Whilst using the "import from catalog" I get the same result, isn't it? Or if I choose this option, LR4 essentially create a new catalog?
Import from Catalog is used when you have already made a separate Catalog, and now want to merge (copy) its contents into the main one (and then delete the separate one).. It depends how you want to work.
I think the 2nd paragraph provides the best solution to this scenario.
It does have the adavantage that you can still see ALL of your pictures (at least, in Library). And while you are travelling, you can organise your new pictures into the same kinds of collections, keywords etc... those aspects can be immediately integrated (apart from the physical file locations, which in this scenario have to happen on your return).
I would tend to take a copy of my main Catalog with me just for reference, but put the new images into a new separate one - a question of personal preference only. The end result is, as you say, the same.

Seemless transition between similar clips with missing frames?

I am working with a long clip of someone talking and I am trying to remove certain words/sentences from the speech. Does anyone know of a transition that works better than Cross Dissolve for making it seem like nothing has been removed from the original clip? When I use cross dissolve, it blends the cut together and looks okay, but I just wanted to check to see if FCP has something better that I might want to use.

Do you ever watch those "World's Greatest Explosions/Car Crashes/Natural Disasters..."? You know, the shows that package a 7 minute segment using two :10 sec. shots of the same action?
They'll zoom in slow, then cut back to normal frame size, or cut to the same shot, only scaled up 30%, or pan n scan the image, or 'flop/flip' the image so it looks like a different camera angle...(drives me nuts watching this, but pretty creative use of limited material.)
Obviously, your content may not look natural with this type of binga, banga, boom...zip, zoom, flash type effects...but sutble use of the effects might give you what you're looking for.
Jump cuts are a challenge when you don't have cover footage. But done with some thought and attention to what style fits your interview piece, you might get something that works.
The scaling might be the primary issue, depending on your format. HD will scale alot better than DV/SD. But if you're working with HD for SD delivery, you'll have a bunch of leeway for scaling and pan n scan.

Transitions glitches on export with GPU activated

First of all, I'm fairly new to PP as I just switched from the FCP suite in the recent wind of change.
In PP CS5.5.1 I experience glitches on some of my film dissolves when I export with the Mercury Playback Engine GPU activated.
The source footage is AVHCD 1080 in a 720p timeline as I need the reframing possibilties and I export to H.264 720p.
If I export the same sequence many times, the glitches does not happen systematically on the same transitions all the time. If I turn the GPU acceleration off, it seems to resolve the issue but if it is an accepted practice in the PP community or if I encounter a bug due to my setup.
Any of you guys experienced this or know if there is a fix for that? I searched the forums but could not find an answer apart from "turning MPE off should resolve the issue".
Here's my set up:
PP 5.5.1 on OSX 10.7
GTX460
i7 2600
16GB RAM

I do have a hacked GPU and it could be a factor but I don't think so since everything is performing flawlessly and enjoying the GPU Boost! I read on the forum that there's some incompatibility between GPU accelerated MPE and the new 32 bits linear color processing: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3939400#3939400 but it involves more cross-fades transparency to 0.
So I'm still wondering if anybody else is experiencing these type of glitches...?!

Transitions don't work with Motion track

I'm putting a demo together with a cople of motion graphic clips 2 of which are done in Live Type & 1 done in Motion. All 3 are QT files but I can only use transitions with the first two which were done in LT. an anyone help?
