PAGES unwanted inserts

Is something wrong with my Pages software?
It inserts letters into my documents. Like if I have a person who's first initial is 'L', Pages takes the 'L' away from his last name, places the L on the left, and will not let me erase it. Then it puts LI on the next line, and LII on the next. This is weird! Can I turn this function off? I do not want anything like this, ever. It also does this with the letter M.

This "broke" with the last maintenance. So did display of some posts if you check "My Posts." The Hosts are aware of it. You can probably come back & give Dennis his solved star (& points) after it's fixed.

Set your columns back to one for the moment. In layout mode, insert a Text box. Place it in the upper left corner of your document, and drag down and right to the size of the container for your two columns. Click inside the Text Box, and now bump up your columns to 2. Your two columns are now contained in this resizable Text Box.

Not on my document. I have a 7 page document open. The "flashing vertical bar" is at the top of page 3. I have the thumbnail view showing. I click page break and two blank pages are added to the end of my document. I have to scrool thru the pages to see that the 2 pages were added as they do not appear in the layout view... I'm not sure if it is inserting a "section" as it adds two blank pages.. But I am clicking on "INSERT PAGE BREAK".. So guess there are still a lot of bugs to fix..

Pages is inserting 2011 instead of 2012.

I JUST noticed this but when I tell Pages to insert the date it inserts the correct day, month, and time but the wrong year! 2011 instead of 2012.
I have it set up in services (I forgot how I did it as it was a while ago) and I usually hit Command-Shift-5 to input the date. It works but wrong year.
Any ideas?

Check what the year is in the little sample calendar.
Is Set date and time automatically checked?

Embed an Exported Muse Page Using "Insert HTML"?

Hello All,
I'd like to export a Muse page to HTML, then embed that entire page into another Muse page using Insert HTML. I've done some experimenting and haven't yet gotten it to work.
I'm familiar with embedding html in Muse, including the linking of external css stylesheets and js libraries, and I'm also reasonably skilled in post-editing my Muse pages in Dreamweaver. But this has me stumped.
Anyone have any experience to share? Thanks!

Hi Bart,
I am not sure why you want to first export the page and then embed it as HTML in another Muse page. However, you can copy all the content from a page and use the "paste in place" option from Edit menu and all the content will be placed as it is on the source page.

Solving this requirement on a modern Windows system is going to be problematic too, as the autorun mechanisms are increasingly being locked down over there, if not by the end-user or the system installer, then by the usual anti-malware tools that are installed.
Given this is one of the most vulnerable populations here in terms of operational security, you'll probably want to target online distribution, or to distribute a signed application that can be installed on the target (akin to a managed system) and that then accesses your data on external storage. All that app might do is access the disk, verify that the contents of the device are trusted and valid, and launch the browser.
I'd likely target online distribution or pre-loaded distributions and iOS, as that's where all of the older folks I'm dealing with are headed, too. If not a native app, then maybe a web-app here, and download the contents into the HTML5 local storage.

now, while displaying the form generate some random number, or take the current time in millis or whatever. Put that number in a hidden field. Insert that unique number along with the real data into the database, but before you do check if the number already exists. If it does you can be pretty sure this is a resubmit of the same data, so don't allow it. This is one way of many to prevent resubmission of existing data.
A good way to prevent a refresh from resubmitting altogether is to do a redirect to a result page right after you deal with the POST request. When the user presses refresh then, he/she will refresh the redirect and not the form submit.

I have tried this many times using different techniques and it just refuses to do it. Can anyone help?

To see how Pages works:
Menu > View > Page Thumbnails
When you click on the thumbnails each Section is outlined in yellow.
Click where you want a new page > Menu > Insert > Section Break
But then to have a new page all you need to do is add content to fill the page or Insert > Page Break to force the insertion point over onto a new page.

Creation of new button on same page after insert command

I have an application running on apex.oracle.com where my workspace name is shruti_work,username is [email protected] and password is buwigi. The application name inside this is "app2"
I am trying to achieve one functionality there but unable to get it so felt like seeking an help from experts here. I have two forms there one page1 form which is simplly made on an html region with go button which is navigating the page 1 items value to page 2 but simply passing their address witout updting the database table.
In Page 2 i created page on a table or view, which made some extra buttons which i dont want like applychanges ,delete button, cancel button. I created a create button even which is updating my database with insert sql command. What i am seeing is after my create button is pressed i got navigated to same page 2 which i want to but the applychange button, cancel and delete button got appeared. I dont get the idea why it is so. i have checked the buttons even i didnt found anything there.
All i want is when i press create button in page 2, my database get update and at the same page (2) a new button get appears which i have to use for other things. Approaching to this solution i created a button with giving databse action update and condition to this button "value of item in expression 1 is not null" and in expression 1 i passed p2_id...... but my new button is not getting created.
Any help on this?

I dont want applychanges button and delete button in my page 2. But when i created form on a table or view this but got created and i cannot delete it even. When i am navigating my page from page 1 to page 2 and filling the fields in page 2 and clicking create button, at that time i want after updating my table and running my plsql process which i have created which you can see in page processing, my button at same page get generate which i will use to navigate to other form. This button which i want to generate after clicking my create button will be meaningful only if my record get inserted in table. so that is why i want it at that time.
I dont want any report so i am not creating form on a table or view

Page numbers inserted as footer in Acrobat print in wrong place (but fine on-screen)

I have used Adobe Acrobat X Pro to create a PDF from a Word 2010 .docx file and a PDF file (originally created in InDesign CS5.5). The Word Document is about 115 pages, and the PDF is about 12. The PDF is inserted after page 100.
I then applied page numbers to all of the pages using the Header/ Footer option in Acrobat. And these display perfectly on screen and when re-opened in Acrobat Reader.
However, when one prints the document, the top and bottom margins seem to shift (the top margin no longer seems to stay put, but sometimes page content (mostly text) shifts down) and the page numbers, instead of being fixed at approx 2cm from the bottom of the page as on-screen, instead seem to float about 2cm below the last line of text on a page. This looks terrible, particularly on pages where text terminates half-way up a page (chapter ends etc.).
I have tried multiple printers and updated all drivers. Still no luck. Please help!

Changing body text is not simple. It's a desperate last resort. You need to buy the exact font. Acrobat will not let you edit in a font you don't own. Even then, it's undertain. Consider preparing an overlay in InDesign.

Display Invoice Page after Insert Record

I am new at this - so my aplogies - I am using Dreamweaver,
ASP and Access - I am doing a form registration page and upon
submit, the submitter is sent to a invoice page which contains some
of the data they just submitted. How do I cherry pick the record
that was just created on the previous registration page in order to
show some of it on the invoice page? I assume I will have to create
a variable from the value of one of the form fields on the
registration page, then use that to call the correct record on the
invoice page, but I have no idea how to do it in Dreamweaver, or
the syntax if I need to code it by hand. Any help would be greatly
appreciated. I have been stuck on this for over a day.

As part of the insert action define something from the form
that is likely
to be unique such as emailaddress, and assign it to a session
variable like
this

%>
Then on your invocie page simply filter the records by the
session variable,
and select the order to be in DESC order.

Navigating to new page after insert

I would like to navigate to a specific page after the user hits insert on a form application component (I still want the insert action to take place). I have wirtten a pl/sql procedure to do this as follows:
create or replace procedure run_in_same_window

If I run this routine independently of the form component, it works fine. However, I have added it to the insert button as follows:
doInsert;
run_in_same_window;
Now the insert works fine, but the navigation to the new window is ignored. I have tried coding in a delay before the call to run_in_same_window, but this doesn't seem to help. Any ideas???

Hi,
You should not use pl/sql proc and javascript to do this. Oracle already provides a functionality to achieve what you are trying to do.
On your portal form, on the "successful submission of form" section, you should call your url in the following way:
go(myurl) ---- where myurl is your url.

Same page for insert/update

Hi there,
Do someone knows about JSF patterns for using the same page/form for inserting and updating the same entities information ?
2 use cases:
1 --> the user browses a list of objects (DataTable), let's say Employees, clicks on one line and gets redirected to the employee details page so he can update the information;
2 --> the user wants to create a new employee and goes to the same page which is empty.
The way I am actually doing it: I have an employeeForm page and an EmployeeForm managed bean (session scope) which contains an instance of Employee. This Employee is initialized when an empty form is needed or sent by DataTable controller when employee details' are requested.
This is not really nice to my point of view since the EmployeeForm controller has to re-initialize it's Employee instance after each usage.
Does someone has a link or can provide a comment for a "best practise" on that topic?

I think you should consider using the request scope of the employee bean, when navigating from dataTable to employeeForm overwrite the bean with the value from datatable
otherwise the bean is created on every request.

Pages 5: Insert File Name

How do I insert the File Name? How do I update an old File Name that was previously inserted?
It's common practice to insert the document name in the footer of document, so people reading the document know what version the file was printed from. This was easily handled in the past version of Pages by going to the "Insert" menu and selecting "File Name". If you later modified a document, you could righ click on the inserted document name and the contextual menu would offer you the option to "Update File Name".
Pages 5 seems to be missing this functionality. The software help instructions offer zero mention of Insert File Name.
Has this been removed? If so, that's crazytown. If not, I'd sure appreciate being explained how to use this important feature.

Tell Apple and Apple's users by rating/reviewing Pages 5 in the App Store.
Apple tries to clear out the bad reviews but with every new version they keep sinking lower and lower.
In the Australian M.A.S. it is getting almost 3/4 saying they don't like it, with almost 3/5ths saying they hate it. Worse than the previous v5.0.
I assume there were some who just quickly looked at it and didn't know what Apple had done. A few bad files and intractable problems later, and they are starting to wake up.
The problem with the reviews is that mostly people do it on first impressions and they can't go back and correct their review in the light of experience, until the next version comes out.
