Pages Will NOT Import Appleworks v6 Word Processing Files

I've seen a number of posts in the community section that state that Pages will open AppleWorks 6 Word Processing files. That has not been my experience. I have the latest version of Pages and use OS 10.8. When attempting to open files such as "xms2002newsletter [v6.0].cwk" I get import error messages that "xms2002newsletter [v6.0] is not a word processing document." But it was. Same for all other version 6 AppleWorks docs. Tried keynote just for grins. Don't know if others have a similar experience, but Pages will not open AppleWorks v6 Word Processing documents for me.

As fruhulda said, it was an AppleWorks 6 draw document.
The only program other than AppleWorks that can open those files is an expensive version of EazyDraw & I'm not sure it could handle such a complex (& busy) document.
Have a Merry Christmas & enjoy the rare Christmas snow we're expecting tomorrow.

  • Acrobat 9 will not import bookmarks from Word 2000

I have a customer who creates sophisticated Word 2000 documents including bookmarks. When converting to Acrobat using 8 professional, the bookmarks convert fine. They are there and point to the correct locations. She insisted that she needed 9 Professional because it handles creating text and check boxes much more efficiently, but 9 will not bring over the bookmarks from the very same document. Our current solution is to have 8 and 9 on the pc simultaneously, create the document in 8, then open it again in 9 to modify all the input fields.
This happens for all users, local admin or not. I have uninstalled, cleaned out the registry, installed, upgraded, used different profiles, etc. and the result is always the same.
What could possibly be causing this? I have checked all the bookmark settings from within Word, and they are all correct. I've searched everywhere, and apparently no one else on Earth is experiencing this issue.

Acrobat 9 does not work with MS Office 2000, Acrobat PDF-capable web browsers and PDFMaker-compatible applications (Acrobat 6.x - 9.x on Windows and Mac OS) .

  • Refreshing page will not update the content referred JavaScript file of html in WebKit on Mac OS X 10.10.2

In our project, we use WebKit framework to visit a local HTML file which contains reference to JavaScript file. Our users can modify the JavaScript file and then refresh the page to see the change which works fine until we come up to Mac OS X 10.10.2. It seems that the referred JavaScript file is cached and can be never updated except restarting application. We have already set cache policy to “NSURLRequestReloadIgnoringLocalCacheData”. However it didn’t work.
Besides there is a similar issue on Safari of Mac OS X 10.10.2. I find that refreshing the HTML in Safari will not renew the content of referred JavaScript file after modifying it. I have tried to check "disable caches" option, but it still didn't work. The behavior is different from OS X 10.10.1. Maybe it is a defect on OS X 10.10.2. Did anyone meet such issue? Is there any solution?

  • Will not show headers of word doc files

I format Word doc files into pdf files to print paperback books. I set the files up with headers and footers. When I am finished I do a print preview and both the headers and footers show up fine but when I convert to pdf the headers aren't there. I am assuming that this is a configuration issue but can't figure out how to fix it. Any suggestions? I would appreciate some help??

I am using Word 2007.  I create the header by clicking on headers and footers and filling out the information. I know that I am getting the header in there securely because when I do a print preview it shows up just fine. It just doesn’t travel over to the pdf version. (though the footers make it just fine) I go to Acrobat, click on the create pdf version button and I get a nice pdf version (minus the header)
Thank you for responding. I hope you can help!

  • Pages will not open some MS Word files!!!! Frustrated

    Hi there,
This could be something really simple but I am getting really annoyed at it not working. I have Pages 08 and am trying to import documents from Microsoft Word 2003. The documents have .doc extensions, which Apple says are fully supported. I have managed to open a few very simple documents of this type, that contain only one or two words, so I don't think that it is an unsupported version of MS Word. When I try to import files, Pages comes up with this:
Import Error: The file format is invalid
The documents are NOT large, only a few kb's.
Thanks, I really hope someone may be able to help me!!!

There are such a lot of things that could go wrong in MS Word that it is impossible to tell what goes wrong in yours.
May I guess that they all come from the same source and perhaps use the same original template? They may have the same author, who uses an unusual kind of logo in the header, which makes Pages choke.
To get them into Pages, try opening them in another application first and then save them from that application. You could try TextEdit, NeoOffice or AbiWord for example. They are all free and TextEdit is already on your harddisk.

  • Organizer will not import TIF copy of NEF file

When I copy a NEF file to a TIF file, it says the file already exists when I try to import to the Organizer.

I suppose you did use the ACR plugin in PSE to convert the NEF into a TIFF format file : open in ACR, edit, and save as 'tif' from PSE ? In the Save As dialog, was the checkbox 'Include in the organizer' checked ?
If the file is already in the organizer, you should find it easily with the menu Find/by filename.

  • IPhoto 6.06 Will Not Import RAW CR2 files Taken Through an Uncoupled Lens

If I use adapters to couple my Canon 20D to a telescope (which is an electronically uncoupled lens and has no lens-related exif data), iPhoto freezes and will not import a RAW Canon CR2 file taken through any telescope. It imports such jpegs just fine, and Preview can open either. iPhoto, however, must be forced to quit under the Apple menu.
It doesn't matter where the RAW file is...in the camera, on the desktop, in a card reader, or on a CD.
This is an obvious bug in iPhoto.

Do you have access to an Apple store, or a friend
with Aperture? It would be interesting to see if
    Aperture has the same problem.
Not that it really matters, but a bug in both
iPhoto and Aperture is more likely to be fixed!
I don't know anybody who uses Aperture, and my nearest Apple Store is 120 miles away in Cincinnati.
I'm able to work around the problem since Canon's Digital Photo Professional, working with Canon's EOS Utilty, imports and processes these images just fine, as does Photoshop CS.
However, I miss the premise that iPhoto should be the central organizer and storage vessel for all of one's digital photos, making naming, finding, and backing them up a snap, even though a different program may be used for processsing them.
As an aside, Canon's download site warns that EOS Utility 1.1.1 will not work on Intel Macs; it does...with full functionality.
    Thanks for your response.

  • AME CS6 will not import Avid QT Ref files

It says they're corrupt. CS5.5 worked fine. We just updated to CS6 (finally) because Adobe Encore wouldn't work with our new HP Z820 systems. Fixed one problem, now we have another. No matter what I do, Quicktime Reference files out of Avid Version 6.5.2 on Z820 will not import or encode a reference file. This is our workflow. Takes way too long to create self-contained QT files. All applications are updated to current version.

No, no luck. There is no black in my sequence, and if there was - I tell Avid to fill blank space with black. This was never an issue before, still saying files are corrupt. I took all updates, no help. I don't think they're addressing this. I remember in CS5, I had to beg them to get the audio to work in AME with QT reference files from Avid. They finally fixed it, maybe someone can address this?  I saw another post a while back on this forum for the same issue.

  • Appleworks word processing files to page files

I've got many hundreds of AppleWorks files merged onto my new iMac from my G5 OS 10.3.
For now 10.5 is allowing me to create Page files of them (not perfectly copied in some cases). Is there a way for the computer to search for all of them and to save them in Page in one operation? Or must I do each one separately?
    Thanks,
    Stacy

Pages will open AppleWorks 6 Word Processing documents directly. Just select a number of them in the Finder and drag them onto the Pages icon in the Dock.

  • For some reason my 09' pages will not view documents created in Word 10'  any suggestions?

For some reason my 09' Pages will not open any documents from 10' Word.  It simply opens up blank.  Any suggestions?

I updated my pages and os.  I am currently running 09' pages and os 10.6.7.  The link I gave you earlier was not correct.  I have attached one I just opened up with microsoft word on another computer.  My pages opens up but is blank.  The link is below:
    https://www.vendorportal.ecms.va.gov/FBODocumentServer/DocumentServer.aspx?Docum entId=191194&FileName=VA-255-11-RP-0197-0004000.doc
The only other thing is that word opened it up in compatibility mode and said that the document originated from the internet.  Could this be something that is causing pages to not open?  Thanks for all of your help.

  • How can I get back my Word docs now that Pages will not open them?

How can I retrieve my Word docs now that Pages will not open them in Mavericks.  I have a brand new iMac with my evolving manuscript for a book transsferred from my now defunct MacBook Pro by external drive.  Pages tells me that "PowerPC apps are "no longer supported" and Mavericks will not open Microsoft Office, though it is still in Applications.  Would really appreciate ANY help!

You will have to have an app that will open them first, you can upgrade to Office for Mac 2011 which is an Intel based app then open the docs and retry. Your docs were created with extremely old version of Office for Mac, version 2004!
Another possiblity is  using a web based compatible MS Office for Mac app and see if it will open your doc and then save it, then attempt to re-open in Pages.

  • Word 2003 will not import a .PSD file

    Using PSE5
To my surprise, Office/Word 2003 will not import a .PSD file created by PSE5. I am talking about a simple, Insert, Picture, From File... into an existing document.
Is there a way to make .PSD files compatible with Word? If not, what is the best file format to save in from PSE5 to use with Office?
Additionally, does anyone have a URL that explains the pros/cons of the various file formats (like where they are best used, etc.)?
    Thanks!
    Bob

I would be surprised if MS Word could handle proprietary formats like PSD. As Ken says, convert to JPEG's. That works fine. I have written many travelogues in Word with JPEG images.

  • Pages will not open any of my word documents.  The I works documentation states that it will open them.  What don't I know

Pages will not open any of my word documents.  The I works documentation states that it will open them.  I have tries using the open under the file menu and I have tried dragginh the file to the pages 09 icon.  Either way I get the following Message "The document “*****.docx” couldn’t be opened. What do I need to do to open them?

hello, the most likely cause is a firewall/security program preventing firefox from accessing the internet. see [[Firewalls]] for information on how to configure them correctly.
also make sure that firefox is set to directly connect to the internet in firefox > options > advanced > network > connection - settings... in there "no proxy" should be selected for normal use cases.

  • AppleWorks word processing files from PowerPC G4 10.4.11 to new Intel Lion 10.7.5 iMac ?

I have only previously had a PowerPC G4 (still working) and have a number of files on AppleWorks ' word processing '.
I have recently invested in only my second computer ( Intel iMac Lion 10.7.4 ), and have discovered AppleWorks has been defunct since 2006 !
How can I export them from the G4, hopefully in a form they can still be edited and printed, rather than just as inaccessible archives ?

The only program which can actually open AppleWorks word processing documents is Apple's Pages, part of the iWork suite and available singly through the Mac App Store (however it will not open AppleWorks 5 documents, only Appleworks 6). This is the nearest thing available to AppleWorks for drawing and word processing: you can insert pictures and draw objects, and create complex layouts - indeed a number of attractive templates are provided. On the whole it will open AppleWorks word processing documents correctly, even when they embed images and drawings. The text display is better, particularly of small font sizes; and there are more options for handling images, such as shadows and reflections.
    More information here: http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/aw/page2.html
As to the other document types:
Draw Documents can be opened directly only in EazyDraw (the more expensive version from their website, not the cheaper one from the Mac App Store, and you will need v4.0 'Retro' not the most recent version) or Intaglio (though this appears not to be able to handle very complex drawings).
Spreadsheets can be opened directly only in Numbers.
Presentations can be opened directly only in Keynote.
Nothing will open Databases or Paint documents.

  • Opening 2 pages from same word processing file side by side

I am new to Macs and not much of a computer user, however is it possible to have my second page of a word processing file open up beside the first page rather than below. I thought viewing 2 pages at once would be a nice benefit of the 20" display?
    g5isght   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Yes. that's because books, magazines, etc. always begin on a right facing page. There are several ways around this. If you aren't planning to duplex or booklet print your document, the easiest way is to hit return on the first line of the first page, then go to Format>Insert Page Break, to create a new page right away, which will be a left facing page, and then the next page will be a right page so they'll appear side by side. Before printing, put your cursor at the beginning of the first real page and backspace to get rid of the fake first page.
