Pages with lots of images "jam" Firefox

Whenever I try to open a page that has lots of images, it only load partially before Firefox becomes completely unable to load webpages until I restart Firefox. I have already created a clean profile and reinstalled Firefox.

I haven't gotten around to installing antivirus (or anything else, for that matter).
If I watch in Task Manager, Firefox.exe goes to 100% as soon as I load the page.
And no, that guide didn't help much. I don't have any addons or plugins yet, this is a new install.
I got a huge slowdown a bit ago, it's because it was using almost 1.5GB of RAM o_o

    I just installed XP, and when I load pages with a ton of images, say, tumblr, Firefox uses ALL CPU time until it finishes loading.
    But because of the slowdown, it takes forever to download all the images.
    It's not related to my connection, I've got 15mbit downstream.
    I have Win7 on a different partition, and I have never had this problem.
    As far as I know, all my drivers and XP are up to date.
    I could have an old driver lurking, should I be looking at something specific?
    I've tried to find something on Google, but I've not found anything really helpful...

    I encountered the same type of problem. Firefox running terribly slowly and slowing down my entire machine (Core i5 with 256GB SSD). Searching the forums, I found a couple of things about troubleshooting performance issues, one of which was to use '''hardware acceleration''', that is on by default. It was turned on on my PC, '''so I tried deactivating it, and it worked!'''
    So doing the exact opposite as Mozilla support said solved the problem. It is really a pain now to work with Firefox. I'm using it because I have no choice, but I'd recommend IE and Chrome over Firefox... Whatever, the market will decide once Firefox has become to crappy...

  • How to fill an 8x10 page with the same image for making buttons?

    How do you make a button template using the grid?  How do you import the image onto that, and how do you fill an entire page with the same image ie-  1" circles

    I'm trying to do the same thing but I want 1" squares.  I just upgraded from Elements 6 and I did this
    quite often for pendant necklaces.  I used to go and print individual prints, but the previous options are not there.  ;(
    And the picture package is only showing 20 (2x2) as being the smallest size.  I don't see a custom button.
    Can anyone tell me how to do this?  We're doing these for a fundraiser and I can't even print anymore.

    1) I want to create a contact sheet type of web page of multiple photo thumbnails.
    2) When you click the photo it opens into a small window or "blow-up" version of the thumbnail. (Clicking the thumbnail does NOT take you to a new page with the full size image).
    3) The blow-up photo has a circle and X that will close the blow-up window.
    I've already figured out how create pages of thumbnails that will take you to a new page with the full size image. I'm trying to create the effect where you never leave the main page, the thumbnails just blow-up into small windows that can be closed again.
    Apple uses this effect a lot with photos and movie clips on their page. An example of what I am trying to do can be found on the iLife/iPhoto/MobileMeGallery info page at Apple.
    If you look to the right just under the main large banner images, there is a grey box titled "iPhoto Showcase." If you click one of the thumbnails there, the picture blows out to a larger size of the image, but doesn't take you to another page. The blow-up image has a little circle and X at the top left to close the window. Main page is still visible behind the blow-up window.
    I'm using a fairly new MacBook with OS 10.5, iPhoto and iWeb '08. I also have Aperture 2.0. I don't have a .Mac or MobileMe account yet. I'm a recent convert from the Darkside, so right now I use google's Picasa Web Albums and google's website creator for my site. If I can get this to work, I'll make the switch MobileMe once the early .Mac conversion kinks get worked out.

But I'm afraid I'm still a bit of a novice with website creation and editing. I liked your iWeb examples, so I have a few follow-up questions about how to integrate this with iWeb.
    1) Do you use iWeb and .Mac/MobileMe to publish your site? I already own a domain and have been using google's online page creator tools to create some very basic pages. For picture pages, I just put up links to my Picasa web albums. But the google user interface and options (no FTP upload) are even more limited than iWeb and .Mac. With 20GB of storage, plus the other features and ability for integration, MobileMe sounds enticing for the price.
    2) At what point do you add the code to the pages in the edit and publish process? What are the exact steps you use to publish? (Create and edit in iWeb, add html code, publish to folder or publish straight to .Mac/MobileMe, etc.)
    3) If you make changes to pages in iWeb, do you have to keep adding the code to the pages and repeat the steps from above question?
    4) What app do you use to edit the html code? No html edit function in iWeb, so I tried opening the "page.html" files in TextEdit but the page just looked like a web page. No code. How do I get the text of the html code to open in TextEdit or another app?
    5) Do the lines of code (2 lines in "head" and 1 line in "body") need to be added to every page that I want to use the effect?
    6) How do you upload the two FancyZoom folders to a .Mac/MobileMe account site? And where exactly do they need to be placed?

  • Photo Page with lots of pix - any way to jump to the last page?

    I have a photo album with 112 pix in it, and it's set to display 21 photos per page w/ 3 columns. This makes for a total of 6 pages.
    The way the page navigation shows up, at least in Safari, is as follows:
    < 1 2 3 4 >
    Oddly, in iWeb it shows:
    < 1 2 3 4 5>
    I continually am adding photos to this album, but I think that people may not realize that there are more than 4 pages. The only clue is that the right arrow is not grayed out, which is too subtle.
    If you click on the "4", and then click the right arrow, it now displays 1-5 like in iWeb. Clicking on it one more time then displays 2-6.
    If all of the pages can't be displayed for space reasons, some indication of how many pages total would be helpful, and/or a "last" link to jump to the last page.
    On this discussions site, for example, doing a search with multiple pages of results brings up the following:
    Pages: 12 *| 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 | Next |*
    This makes it obvious how much content there is, and how far you have to go to get to the end. Is there any way to get something similar on an iWeb page? I think people are missing my latest additions because they don't know they're there, and there's no easy way to get to the newest stuff.

    I couldn't get the other "jump to the last page" script to work at all; it winds up screwing up the display to where it shows two pages at a time slightly offset from one another.
    It's more likely that you web host servers take time to serve the page and its element, I ran into similar problem while helping out another person in this forum.
    But, while I'm finally seeing the page count directly above the page navigation numbers, it's indicating that there are 7 pages when in fact there are 8, and I'm wondering why it disappears after changing to any other page (it doesn't reappear even on the first page without doing a refresh). I've tried this with the same results in Safari 3.1.2 & Firefox 3.01.
    My bad, all these computing have concept of zero , I messed up with that
    I also found that the bottom paginate navigation cause problem, so I added more code to handle that.
    The result may not be desired but cause the page count flashed when you go from one page to the next, quite annoying. Give this a try:

    is it possible to have a code in java that creates an HTML page,
    reads an image file and embeds this to the HTML page?

    Just tried this out, and it doesn't do what I was hoping: embed the image into the HTML document as a byte stream, so that the HTML document will display the image, without a seperate file.

    I'm sometimes so plagued by this problem that I have to switch to other browsers (I have Chrome, Safari and IE installed) and have not experienced any similar problem with those.

  • Converting PDF to EPUB with lots of images

    Greetings everyone,
    I am rather new to indesign and e-publishing and trying to get a handle on how to do this properly. I am a professional photographer with years of work and have decided to create a few photo e-books. Not actually how to, but beauty, something like a coffe table photo essay, photo story book. You get the idea,  mainly photos and very little text. So here I am looking to make a ebook without lots of text. I guess mainly the opposite of what most ebooks are? I have created a few of them in indesign cs6 as a pdf and they look great ! I have tried to convert them to epub and what text I do have and or backgrounds go all over the place! obviously i'm doing something wrong! Looking for some  guidence on how to make this work? I have worked with photoshop, premier, after effects since day one of their creation so i do have somewhat of  knowledge in adobe but not for this... thanks !!!

  • Page with MM_editAction wont work in Firefox on form submit..

    Hi Guys,
    I have a form that adds a record to my database and the user
    uses this to apply for membership.. there are some scripts that
    check usernames ect... This all works in IE
    But In firefox it fails when the Jacascript tries to submit
    the form after it checks the fields are OK and it does nothing??
    If i fill the form in with errors in my application my
    javascript is running and picking up the errorrs and tells the user
    and I have alerts in there now and I can see the javascript is fine
    right up to the last line and its just the usuall way to submit a
    form I guess??

    I have an Intel GMA 945 and I'm using x586-video-intel and intel-dri.
    It is interesting to see that these crashes happen as soon as the total memory used by Linux approaches/reaches my physical memory size of 2 GB. I should note that I have an SSD - so I do not use swap. With total memory used I mean memory that programs use plus cached memory, so my memory isn't actually "full" since the kernel could just free some cached memory to accommodate the memory Firefox needs. But this is not what happens: as soon as all of the memory is used, Xorg crashes in this scenario. I can prolong the time of crash by manually freeing the cached memory before, but again, as soon as the memory that "free -m" reports as used approaches my physical limit of 2 GB, I get a crash.
    Note that this is not an OOM Killer issue. OOM Killer doesn't do anything (and it shouldn't: the cached memory is available to the system, after all).
    I'm willing to test out any suggestions. My guess is that there is a bug in the intel driver but I rather be sure beforehand.

    I´ve got a html page with a flash image viewer file inn it. Preview in a browser is ok, but I don´t get it right on the server. Is it something spesial with the swf file?

    I have a jsp page with lots of ADF and JSF components. I have a CoreTable component that gets it values from a DB thru Toplink. On this page I have a CoreSelectOneChoice component with a ValueChangedListener. When the user makes a selection from the CoreSelectOneChoice component I want the CoreTable to update its value based on code in the ValueChangeListener.
    My problem is that when the user makes its selection on the CoreSelectOneChoice component my CoreTable dont renders out from the new values I set in the ValueChangedListener.
    So how can I render (re-post) my CoreTable component or my whole page after the code in my ValueChangedListener has run? Or what code should I put in the ValueChangedListener to get the wanted behavior.
    Hope that sombody can help a stuck developer :-)

    Hello, I am writing as I am experiencing some issues with my favorite web browser after updating to Windows 8.1. Here are some details. I updated from Windows 8.0 to Windows 8.1 and ever since Firefox has run somewhat strangely. In particular when on sites with a lot of images like Facebook. It is like there is some kind of Flikr effect between the desktop and the images and between the images and the browser (almost like old 16 bit video games flikering). It is not too bad but it is an issue. I have tried resetting firefox and restarting the computer. I haven't tried a repair, and I haven't done an uninstall yet.
