Pages won't allow me to type in a new document

I have Pages '09 version 4.3. When I went to open a new document today, the blank new document will not allow me to type in it. I can insert a table and type in that fine, but if I try to just type a list or document, it won't allow me to do anything. The cursor doesn't even appear when I try to click in the document itself. I have restarted and shut down the computer already with no resolution of the problem. Suggestions?

You opened a blank Layout template.
Go back to the Template Chooser and choose a Word Processor template instead. They are listed in the sidebar.

I opened a new document in Pages 5.2 and a Pop up message appears; "the document could not be autosaved." First time I have seen this. Went to manually save the docement and another message appears; "the document "Untitled" could not be saved as "Project Portfolio" [my document title]. Then, Pages would not let me duplicate the document.
I suspect something may be missing and I need to reload Pages. Is there another way?

Iworks pages is not allowing my to type in a new blank document.

I am currently a college student who has reports to write ALL the time. I am use my MacBook Pro for all my school assignments, until recently Iworks Pages has been giving me problems. I click on pages then on blank document and I try to type and nothing shows up. If someone can PLEASEE help me with this problem I would greatly appreciate it. If I am unable to get to another computer to do my assignment I must open a previous assignment and type over it. Thank you guys for your time, I hope someone has an answer for me.

Are you aware of that there are two types of blank documents? Word Processing and Page Layout. You have click on the latter which uses text Boxes for text. Set in the Pages Preferences to automatically open the WP blank template!

If it has letters it is not a serial number. It is likely a redemption code.

Pages won't allow me to save document, can't gain permission to documetns

Pages won't allow me to save documents, as it claims I don't have permission to access Documents or any other folder I try save anything in. I have gone to file info, made sure documents and all other folders are unlocked, and on the file I have permissions to read and write. Yet despite this, Pages keeps insisting I don't have permission. What can I do?

I have also tried the Disk utility repair function but that did nothing.

ok, i've just run a specific test.
1 - Online, ensure that mail is sync'd
2 - Disable network connection, confirm that mail has moved to offline mode
3 - Delete 20 messages in a folder
4 - Conifm they have been deleted (whilst still offline)
5 - Re-enable network connection, leave machine alone for 5 minutes
6 - Confirm that messages haven't been deleted and are still in the folder untouched
7 - Whilst still online, try to delete one or more of the messages, they vanish for a moment, then re-appear
8 - ***
Can replicate this at will......surely this isn't just me?

Saved documents showing up blank/can't type on a new document

I went to open up a previously saved document and the error message popped up like when a file contains fonts not available on your computer, only the font on it was one I do have downloaded and had been using. The entire document was then blank and I assumed it was a font issue but then when I went to open a new document it wouldn't let me type on it or even show a cursor. Trying to open other documents containing standard fonts showed up blank as well. I'm not sure if the incidents are related but that is when I recall the problem starting. Another interesting thing is when I click throughout the document, the font/size/etc. changes at the top to show what font WOULD be there, as if the text is there, invisible. HELP, I'm in a composition class this semester.

Restart you computer with Shift key pressed to do a safe start. Try Pages. Didn't help?
Then restart and log into another user account. Can be created in the System Preferences > Account. Does Pages work here?
Delete the com.apple.iwork.pages.plist. To find it hold down the Option key when clicking on Go in the Finder menu, then click on Library > Preferences to find the file.

Why can't I type in a new document?

When ever I start a new document recently, I'm not able to write on it. The indicator for writing doesn't show up and the outline icon isn't cliackable. I have to use a text box everytime I have to write something. Help!!

You have opened a page layout document rather than a word processing document. A page layout document is a completely blank space & you need to insert a container for your text. That can be a text box, a table or an object.

HT1338 My MacBook Pro (running Leopard 10.5.8) won't allow keyboard to type an upper case 'C' using the shift key...works fine with caps lock, or, with my Typinator workaround using double-typed lower case c (not always best). Any ideas?

My MacBook Pro keyboard won't type an upper case 'C' using the shift key... only with caps lock. Workaround has been to use Typinator by typing a double lower case c, not always the best solution. Mac is a refurbished model, which initially was fine. Apple tech helped me correct the quirk when it first appeared, but now it has returned and refuses fixes. Any ideas?

I'm willing to bet that this has something to do with iCloud. I've been facing a frozen computer nearly every time I go into it.
In Activity Monitor I have seen two programs associate with iCloud that take up about 2.5 GB of memory (I only have 4 in the computer) -- causing everything to freeze. One of these is called "iCloud Helper" and the other one is something like "Address Book Sync helper" -- I see parts of these names in the stuff you have posted.
I am at my wits' end with these and have written to Apple asking them to do away with these or fix them. To get rid of the Address book sync thing I have gone into system preferences for iCloud and unchecked Contacts -- but then spontaneously it gets rechecked. And oftentimes after I Force Quit the iCloud helper, it spontaneously turns on again. My conclusion --- the iCloud is basically unusable. It turns a Mac into the most useless, clogged, sluggish PC. If this is happening to a lot of people's computers -- and I see no reason why yours or mine should be an exception -- these programs just might destroy Apple itself.
So -- I'm about to completely give up on iCloud, and I suspect that others will too unless this gets fixed.

Pages won't load when I type addresses

Firefox just updated itself to 10.0.1 and it has changed this. I used to just type twitter.com or amazon.com and the page loads. When I do this now, absolutely nothing happens. Even if I type the full address: https://twitter.com nothing happens. There isn't even an error message. If I go to google search, and then click on the page, it goes to it with no problem.
What is a pain is that it still has my history of frequently visited pages, but I can't use it now.
I'm sure there must be a setting which changed on Firefox, because this still works perfectly well with Chrome, but I can't find the correct setting.

Do you have the AVG Safe Search add-on?? If so, disable this extension in the Firefox Add-ons Manager. Ref:

Safari won't allow me to type into fields on certain websites

I'd like to log into www.CAMREO.com I need to type my email and password to login, but I can't "click" that field to type stuff. Safari and Firefox won't let me, but Internet Explorer will. Can you go to this site and see if it works for you? What can I do to fix this? Thank you!

If both browsers do not work, the problem is almost certainly the site's problem. Some (few, fortunately) web programmers do not code to standards or, worse yet, code to Microsoft-specific protocols. E-mail the web site and ask them when (or if) they are going to correct their code.

Every now and then it won't allow me to type.

The browser works fine its just every now and then it gets to were i can not type or copy and paste. Its like its frozen and it make this sound. the only way to solve it is to shut down the tab and start all over again. its really bad then i type something long and it freezes

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

PDFs from Pages - Won't allow backgrounds to be added in Acrobat

It seems when I print a Pages document to PDF, I cannot add a background to the PDF in Adobe Acrobat. I noticed that there is an unresolved post about the exact same problem with iWork Pages 06 so it seems, this has never been addressed. Does anyone know how to fix this? I have a PDF of my letterhead that I use as a background and now I cannot.

I tried doing this in Acrobat Pro 8 for PC and 9 for Mac using Document > Background without success. Acrobat does not even recognise that there is a background, and a new background I add is not shown. I went through Document > Examine document without finding anything suspicious. I also tried the Preflight to see if that would reveal anything unusual in the PDF, but did not find anything.
To me this is a real limitation, even if it does not apply to many users. If you for some reason want to use some of the advanced Background options in Acrobat, I cannot see how you could.

Pages won't allow me to create a table with just one row.

I'm trying to create a one row, two colum table in Pages. I have no problem with the columns. But I cannot create the table with just one row. Two rows apppears to be the minimum. Any ideas??

In Pages 5.2, click the equal sign at bottom-left of table and reduce the row count to one.
