Pages won't spell check after page 15?!?!

I have a pages document that will only underline or spell check words before page 15. After that, nothing is underlined or spell checked when right clicked on. Any ideas whats going on or how to fix it?

I have the same dilemma. The spell checker on pages seriously lacks.
Also i don't think my proofreader works. When I highlight a word and click proof read, it automatically skips to the next underlined word.
I'm about to go back to Word.

  • Won't Spell Check In Pages

Today when I was typing a report in Pages the spell check mysteriously stopped working. It was working earlier but now it won't work. I checked the preferences and it was turned on. Someone help me quickly

This is a problem that I have also had for about a year now. Generally, after I deleted com.apple.iwork.pages.plist and recreated my preferences file for Pages it went away. (See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8287348&#8287348)
I also noticed this problem decreased after downloading the latest updates. If you haven't updated pages lately, you might also try that.

  • Pages 5.5 Spell check

Why doesn't the spell check in Pages 5.5 work at all?  Anyone else having this problem?
(God, I wish they'd bring back AppleWorks...)

I'm having the exact same problem as you, Bmartinak, and don't use spelling corrections while I'm typing for very similar reasons.
Using: MacBook Pro June 2011, Yosemite, Pages 5.5. Spellcheck stopped working after I installed Yosemite and upgraded to the new pages, so I presume it's a bug. Wondering if anyone has found a Terminal fix or some other workaround. And Tom Gewecke, your reference to the "afterwards feature" rather dates you and me (and maybe Bmartiniak)...  this "feature" is how things used to happen back in the day: we wrote something as correctly as possible the first time, and checked it for mistakes afterwards, then fixed them. Typewriter ribbon with white-out was an innovation. God I'm old. I just want to be able to write on a clean page and then hit a button to perform a spell check. How complicated is that?

  • Hi, can someone please tell me why the spell check in pages doesn't work. I went to preferences and enabled this auto spell checker and have set the language to british english. But still it doesn't work while it works perfectly in TextEdit.

    Inspector > Text > More > Language
Only applies to selected text, like making it a particular font.
It is not a setting that sticks. If you continue to paste in text from elsewhere particularly the Internet it will have a different or None language set to it. You need to select it and make it B.E.

  • Spell checker in Pages for iOS - other than english

    Hello,
I'm trying to get spell checking in Pages for iOS working in another language besides english. My question is- is spell checker in Pages for iOS evailable in any other language besides english? Because it doesn't seem to be- once I change keyboard to another language (even matching system language), Pages stops underlying errors in that keyboard language.
    Thanks.

Spellcheck/autocorrect follows the keyboard (system language is irrelevant).  Please tell us what language exactly is not working for you.

  • Spell Check All Pages in Dreamweaver CS4

With a new converted web site of over 150 pages I need to spell check the pages.
Is there any extension or method to spell check all of the pages at once?
    Thanks

Unfortunately, you can’t do it.  As I have noted before, Adobe should be ashamed of itself that I have to import my entire site into FrontPage 98 in order to get an effective spell-check.  I get laughed at for using FrontPage, but it's a far better program, sadly.

  • Sluggish Spell Check in Pages

I tried to do a full-document spell check in Pages (300-page doc), but it was s-o-o-o-o-o sluggish that I copied the whole document into AppleWorks and did the spell check there in a fraction of the time. (I prefer not to use the spellcheck-as-you type feature.) Any thoughts?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Just answered my own question: When I get out of layout mode, the spell-check moves at a normal (quick) rate.

  • Can you add a word or name to the spell checker in pages for iPad?

I'm looking for a way to add a word, alternate spelling or proper name to the spell checker for the newest version of pages for iPad so they won't keep showing up as "misspelled".
    Can you help?

No, the ability to add a word to spell check dictionary is not a current feature.

  • Answer to Spell check on Pages!

This is an answer to the problem some people have been having with Apples Pages app not functioning with the spell check . I went to my ipad Settings and General click the tab for nationality ,tick just English. Not British English . Job done worked for ...

My version of Pages does this too. Sometimes, the software can be a bit fiesty.
Open the preferences window for Pages (command comma), and go to the autocorrection tab. You can turn off auto correction altogether by unchecking "automatically use spellchecker suggestions." However, this will disable all autocorrections.
To only disable the hadn't/hand't correction, click the little plus sign (in the Autocorrection tab) to add a spellchecker suggestion. In the "replace" column, type "hand't". In the "with" column, type "hadn't". Now, every time you type "hadn' ", Pages will replace that with "hand' ". Then, after you type "t", Pages will replace "hand't" with "hadn't".

  • Using Spell Check makes Pages crash

Since upgrading to Mavericks and the latest version of iPages, it crashes every time I try to use spell check. This is beyond frustrating. Has this happened to anyone else and do you know of any fixes?
    thanks!
    WG

Others have reported the issue, but not everyone is getting it.
Pages 5 has so many bugs and missing features you are better off just going back to any older version of Pages which should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
    http://www.freeforum101.com/iworktipsntrick/viewforum.php?f=22&mforum=iworktipsn trick
Trash/Archive Pages 5 after exporting any Pages 5 files back to Pages '09 format.
Then rate/review Pages 5 in the App Store.

  • No Spell Checker in Pages 3.0.2

I am running Pages 3.0.2 in Leopard 10.5.2 on a Dual 1.8 Ghz PowerMac with 1.5 Gig of RAM.
I do not have any external Spell Checkers installed.
I have been completely unable to run any Spelling Checks.
I always get "Cannot Contact Spell Checker"
If I have Check Spelling as you Type selected, I get that message about every 10 seconds.
    What is UPPPP????
    Any Solutions or Work Arounds??
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
    Ted

    Theodore,
You may not have any external spell checkers installed now, but I wouldn't be surprised if you once did. And when you disabled and trashed it, it left behind some remnants. I'll bet that's what Pages is finding.

  • Pages IWORK'08 spell check doesn't work--here's the fix

Pages stopped spell checking. Some suggested deleting com.apple.iwork.pages.plist off the HD in case Pages was corrupted so it could rebuild the spell check feature but that was not necessary in my case.  Here is the painless fix.
    -Open a pages document
-Go to Edit and SELECT ALL
-Then go to INSPECTOR  text  (blue T) MORE and be sure language is set to English, then close out of Inspector
-Go to EDIT, SPELLING and set “check spelling as you type”  or "Check spelling"
Just remember that PAGES needs to know what you want to do so you have to SELECT ALL for it to check everything on the document.

That is not sufficient if you have not also corrected your Text Styles to the appropriate language.
Text is styled with a language, usually the default, just as it is with a font or color.
Unless you update all your styles and use them, every time you reintroduce new text or use those like Free Form you will have text with either the wrong language or no language.
