Have some photos of a warehouse fire in Plymouth Indiana.  Files were saved as .jpg  Can't get them to open.
One message is "

Help Please

As has been suggested above, I would explore Opening the files in another program first, and if successful, just doing a Save_As from that program.
I do not know how sensitive Paint might be, but Ps really wants the JPEG header info to be well-formed. I often encounter JPEG errors in Ps, and my first stop is to IrfanView (free), or ThumbsPlus (commercial), as both seem much more lenient with JPEG's. I have only had a few files, that nothing on my computer would open. I assume that they were just too corrupt.
With either my IrfanView, or ThumbsPlus, when Opened, I do a Save_As, and choose a low compression/high-quality JPEG. If you other program supports Save_As PSD, that would be my # 1 choice, and keep JPEG out of the mix from that point on.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Itunes cannot read contents of this phone

I updated my iphone 6 to the ios 8.1.3. it rebooted the phone while still connected to the computer and itunes and now all of a sudden, itunes says "it cannot read contents of this phone" and the only option it's giving me is to restore to factory settings. unfortunately, i didn't back up first before updating. HELP! I'm going nuts here.

This solution worked for me:  http://youtu.be/TeHiwRZbcho
Before doing it, though, I updated my Time Machine backup manually, just in case.  I also added one step not in the video.  The file I was told to delete I first copied to my desktop and confirmed that it could be put back on my device.  It literally took one minute.  As I type this, my phone is doing its first backup in two months and iTunes didn't give me any heartache.
FYI:  I don't know why iTunes doesn't seem to allow multiple backups anymore but once I finished my phone's initial setup I backed it up to the cloud as a safety precaution so I would never have to start from scratch again.  I do regular backups to my computer so that if one becomes corrupt, I can turn to the other.
I've had this same problem since the last update (12/15/15 -- almost two months ago) and was hoping this latest would fix it.  It didn't.  Factory reset was not a viable option.  Finally, this morning I did one final search before piecing together what backups I could (photos, exporting from what few apps offer exports, etc) and tried one last search.  Using the exact wording in the iTunes warning led me to the video.

Sorry, I am out of ideas. Unless anyone else can help I suggest you need to contact support directly. It’s usually possible to start a live chat, if an Adobe agent is free, and often to get problems fixed right away.

  • TS3212 i downloaded itunes on my windows 7 computer, but when i try running the setup file, it says it's not a valid win32 file. how do i fix this?

i just bought a brand new HP computer with the windows 7 and i'm trying to download itunes on my computer. I've used the email and a new one for the download. it'll go through the process of downloading the itunes setup, but when i go to the downloads folder in my computer and click on the file, it says it's not a valid Win32 file and won't open.  I've tried downloading the 64 bit version to se if that was the problem, but even that won't work.  please help!

Perhaps try downloading and saving a copy of the installer to a different PC. (If you're on a 32-bit Windows system, try to download on a different 32-bit Windows system.) Copy the iTunesSetup.exe installer to an external hard-drive, or a large-enough thumb drive or burn it to a CD-R. Carry the installer back to your PC, copy the installer to your hard drive. (Don't run the install from the ExHD, thumb or CD-R.) Start the install by doubleclicking the iTunesSetup.exe file.

Adobe 10 worked fine on my computer, when I did the update for Adobe XI I got this error.  I tried a couple of times to redownload and install with no success.  Adobe Reader 10 wouldn't work either.  I did a restore on my computer back before the Reader update and that did not get Adober Reader back to working.
I have been through the Adobe Help & Support, and  Community.  I have used the uninstaller programs and checked anything and everything I found in those two places.  I even tried to install Reader 9 to no avail.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • Infopath 2013 SOAP Web Service Data Connection - Error: The file is not a valid XML file

Here are the steps to replicate the issue I’m having when adding lists.asmx or any other SharePoint web service in InfoPath 2013. This web service opens fine in the browser from my desktop. My account is a farm administrator and is added to the
web application’s User Policy.  I can use these services just fine using Nintex 2013 Workflow.
    Open InfoPath Designer 2013.
Select Blank Form and click Design Form button.
    Click “Data” tab.
Click “From Web Service” and select “From SOAP Web Service”
Enter https://mysiteurl.com/_vti_bin/lists.asmx?WSDL for the web service definition.
    Click Next.
    Windows Security window pops up.
Enter a credential. I tried both my account and the farm account. My account is a farm admin and is added to the web application’s User Policy with Full Control.
Click OK. It prompts for credential multiple times.
I get below this error messages:
    Sorry, we couldn't open https://mysiteurl.com/_vti_bin/lists.asmx?WSDL
InfoPath cannot find or cannot access the specified Web Service description.
The file is not a valid XML file.
Not enough storage is available to process this command.
We have a project that is in need of these services using InfoPath so any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Brian_TX,
For your issue, try to the following methods:
Change your service binding in web.config to:binding="basicHttpBinding". It seems in VS it defaults to wsHttpBinding.
Replace all instances of "parameters" from the web service wsdl with the name "parameter"
There are some similar articles about the issue, you can have a look at them:

  • IMP-00010: not a valid export file (downward from 10.2.0.1 to 8.1.7.0)

    Hi,
We have requirement to transfer User's all tables from 10.2.0.1 database to 8.1.7.0 database
I have successfully exported user along with all tables and its data from the 10.2.0.1 database,
now when i am doing import into 8.1.7.0, i am getting the following error :
IMP-00010: not a valid export file, header failed verification
    IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully
when i searched the internet, in the one blog it mentions as below :
Oracle's exp/imp utilities are not downward compatible.
you must use 9.02.1 exp to extract from instance 9.02.03 and then you are able to imp into 9.02.1
so as per above, i will have to use 8.1.7.0 exp to extract from instance 10.2.0.1 database.
So, how it can be done ?????
where i have done mistake ???
    With Regards

It seem you quoted me out of context. I was trying to point out that why read some blog entry of the 'net when the basic rules are clearly documented.
    fbortel wrote:
Well in that very same piece of documentation it becomes clear you cannot export 10G, and import into 8i.Which section says this?
The table (if that's it) gives a few exampes: "Table 19-7 shows some examples "
I'm pretty sure that anything after Oracle8 should work. As long as you are using the right version of 'exp'.
But there is a Metalink Note that goes into more detail. (and should be more correct than my memory allows me)

  • ITunesHelper.Resources is not a valid short file name - help!

Just purchased a new PC - running Vista, itunes loaded 4 days ago and worked but since yesterday wont run, and I cant uninstall it - always comes up with 'iTunesHelper.Resources is not a valid short file name' cant get into itunes at all to do anything...any suggestions!

+But still cannot "uninstall" from the control panel.+
Okay. In that case, let's try using the Windows Installer CleanUp utility to remove the installation configuration information.
download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now launch Windows Installer CleanUp ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"), find any iTunes entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those iTunes entries, and click “remove”.
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC, and try another install.
If it doesn't go through, let us know what error message you get this time. (Fot example, is it now saying *Invalid drive* J?)

Disclaimer: Apple does not necessarily endorse any suggestions, solutions, or third-party software products that may be mentioned in the topic below. Apple encourages you to first seek a solution at Apple Support. The following links are provided as is, with no guarantee of the effectiveness or reliability of the information. Apple does not guarantee that these links will be maintained or functional at any given time. Use the information below at your own discretion.
    Symptoms
While upgrading or uninstalling a Windows software application (such as iTunes for Windows or QuickTime for Windows), you may receive one of the following error messages:
file name is not a valid short file name
The folder path 'folder name' contains an invalid character.
... where file name could be the name of any file, and folder name could be the name of any folder.
In the case of software that uses advertised shortcuts (such as recent versions of iTunes for Windows or Safari for Windows), the messages may also appear when attempting to launch software that has already been installed.
    Resolution
The error messages are usually caused by damage to the installation database for the application. Clearing the installation database for the application by using the Windows Installer CleanUp utility can usually get you past the error message.
    (1) Click [here|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301] first, and read the important information about the utility.
    (2) Click the *Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility package now* link on that page to download a file titled msicuu2.exe.
    (3) Open the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install it.
    (4) In your Start menu click *All Programs* and then click *Windows Install Clean Up.* The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (5) Select the software you're getting the "not a valid short file name" or "invalid character" message for from the list and click Remove.
    (6) Click OK in the confirmation dialog that appears.
    (7) If you have multiple entries for the software you're getting the "not a valid short file name" or "invalid character" message for, repeat steps 5 and 6 for the other entries for the software.
    (8) Click Exit.
    (9) Restart the computer.
If you were getting the "not a valid short file name" or "invalid character" message when trying to upgrade or launch software, now try reinstalling the latest version of the software.
If you were getting the "not a valid short file name" or "invalid character" message when just trying to uninstall software, program files for the software in question will remain on the PC after it has been removed by the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. If you want to remove leftover program files, check in at the appropriate forum at [Apple Discussions|http://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa?categoryID=1] and ask which files can be safely removed.

  • Keep getting "lvanlys.dll is not a valid LabVIEW file"

ugh i feel so bad cause i keep posting questions and it seems like i'm not doing anywork. let me start of by saying i spent the last 3 hours searching the forum and google and continually testing and nothing works
basically i used lv's built in application builder to build a .exe file so i can run the program from any computer. so i successfully compile, install lv 8.0 (was compiled on 8.0) RTE onto computer and try to run and keeps giving me "lvanlys.dll is not a valid LabVIEW file". when i create the exec, lvanlys.dll is automatically put in a support folder so i don't know what the problem is
i've tried moving around lvanlys.dll to diff directories including RTE, adding missing files as dynamic VIs, adding separate files into project instead of lib, and combinations of them none work. reinstalled RTE. one build the errors i got was "to fix this error must use full development version". i don't really understand what that means...i have to install the entire VI instead of just the RTE?
another thing, the computer that this doesn't work on originally had 6.1 installed. i just installed the 8.0 RTE engine over it. i have tried replacing lvanlys.dll and didn't work. tested with couple other computers without 6.1 and it worked fine. computer i am on now has 6.1 and 8.0 and it works fine. so i'm stumped
//EDIT: oh i forgot, a lot of threads say "create a installer". is that just using the application builder builtin to create an exec or what exactly does it mean?
Message Edited by unknown00 on 06-07-2007 04:18 PM

    Some questions:
Did you install only the 24MB runtime engine of the 87MB version of RTE 8.0? You need to install the big thing.
Is it possible you are including the 6.1 version of lvanlys.dll instead of 8.0?
In 8.0, Builing an executable and creating an installer is both done on a LabVIEW project.
Building the executable does just that.
If you built an installer, you package everything up for distribution, optionally include the RTE and other support files, etc. Later running the installer, will put  everything in its right location, e.g. the executable in the "program files" hierarchy, a shortcut in the start menu, etc.

  • 'iTunesMiniplayer.Resources' is not a valid short file name

    -deep inhale-
up until about a month ago i'd used my ipod as a hard drive so i could have iTunes wherever i went. i installed it using my brother's PoS computer (i dunno the specs but it's running windows XP)and it was assigned to drive (F:)
as soon as i got my netbook i saw no need to keep the program installed on the ipod so i deleted it. now he has an ipod and wants to eliminate cds from his life, but there's one problem: the computer still says itunes is installed at (F:) and will not uninstall or repair. about 4 minutes into the 'installation', an error window pops up saying "'iTunesMiniplayer.Resources' is not a valid short file name."
six attempts later the installer pops up and asks where to install. as i go to change the location from (E:) another error window tells me that "'(E:)' is not a valid destination. Please choose a new destination." Clicking ok causes the installer to finish and it too warns me of a 'fatal error during installation' and to try again later. i've been stuck at this point for half an hour.
how do i avoid buying an external disk drive for my netbook to upload his music onto his ipod?

See if the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will get rid of itunes.
    Then try the install again.

  • Unable to install Safari 5: "not a valid short file name" error

    Hi all,
Previous thread has been archived, but I thought I'd post an update on this issue, since we finally solved it!
To recap, I was getting an error on trying to install Safari which said "<username> is not a valid short file name", and the installation would fail. If installing under an admin username with a shorter name, the installation would succeed, but the same error message would occur for the original user when trying to launch Safari, during the initial configuration process. The problem also plagued some other installation processes, including (for example) Adobe Acrobat updates.
The problem turned out to be related to our redirection of user's profiles (My Documents, Application Settings etc.) to a fileserver. These are pointed to a file share named users on each office's primary file server, and this works fine for most purposes. However, we did not allow users read access to the "users" folder on the server in which their individual user directories were located (this was so users could not browse a list of employee names in this folder). This turned out to be causing the problem; by allowing read access to the folder, all the issues where cleared up.
Anyway, I hope this helps anyone else who may have experienced the same problem!

    Excellent news, lab.
Many thanks for letting us know the resolution.
