PAINFULLY slow cover flow....this can't be right.

Is coverflow really supposed to be so slow it looks like I'm running this on a pentium 1? I've got a Dell XPS M1530 with 2 ghz dual core processor, 4 gig of ram, a 320 gig hard drive, a Geforce 8600 video card & directX 10. Everything else on the computer runs perfectly fine, even everything else in iTunes...but coverflow is just ridiculously slow. What gives? I tried searching, found others having the problem but no resolutions. Any ideas?

I can only add my XPS M1530 to the list of computers having the problem. I have seen posts back to the beginning of the year, so I suspect it is a problem Apple isn't interested in and it is likely a problem with their DirectX or other video routines gone bad.
Maybe they'll consider taking this as a formal bug and getting it fixed, because coverflow ***** as is while it is dreamy on the iPhone.

I have to select each address individually. This can't be right. With 10.6.8 I used to be able to double click on the name of the group and they would all be selected. Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
    b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
     Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
     COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
     computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
     screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
     Reinstall the 10.9.4 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update (Combo).
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
     Reinstall the 10.9.4 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update (Combo).

Address lookup (painfully) slow in Calendar (Mavericks)- can I disable it?

This new features seams really neat, but in reality it takes so long to find an address that I can barely type something into the event location field. As I start typing it starst hunting, and… I… have… to… wait… to… type… the… next… letter.
I don't really need this feature anyway since I use Mynd on the iPhone and that finds addresses just fine.
Short of speeding this up incredibly, is there a way to disable this?

Illustrator CC 2014 running EXTREMELY slow on brand new 6 Core Mac Pro with 64Gbs of Ram. This can't be right :(

I've just picked up a brand new 6 core Mac Pro and I am having some serious lag issues with Illustrator CC 2014. I am just trying to select relatively simple objects (an illustration of the side of a coin) and there is a massive delay between when I click on an object and when it actually becomes selected.
Someone please tell me they know how to fix this? Please

20 seconds from screen-shut to Sleep... Surely this can't be right?

On my MBA, it takes approx 20 seconds for the hard disk to spin down & the computer to go to sleep after closing the lid, even if I've already logged out. This seems extremely long, particularly compared to my Powerbook G4 which sleeps/HD spins down after 3 seconds! Surely this is something that needs to be looked at by Apple?
Just wondering what other people are experiencing on this point. It's not a huge problem, but does mean it's not a good idea to pick up your MBA & put in your bag having only just shut the lid...

The delay is due to the Safe Sleep/Hibernate mode employed by default on your Air. The contents of RAM are saved to the HD in a file /private/var/vm/sleepimage
On the Air's rather slow 1.8" (same as in the iPod) HD, that can take a few seconds. You can speed up the process as outlined here:

There are some trade offs to doing this, but I find it useful.

I have a table with one DATE field. It wasn't displaying times with the date,
so I searched and found a post telling how to change my NLS settings
in the Preferences.
I did this and it didn't change, so I thought, OK, I'll shut it down and restart.
Still no. So, I shut it down again, deleted all the records form my table, reinserted
them and then restarted SQLDeveloper.
Despite the fact that it has retained the change in NLS settings, it STILL*
doesn't display the time.
There is no problem in SQL*Plus. Quite frankly, this is poor.

I have two tables Sysstat_ext and Sysstat - both have fields M_Time (Measurement time),
which is VARCHAR2(15) in Sysstat_ext and DATE in Sysstat.
Sysstat_ext is an external table pointing at a .csv file where the dates are strings (obviously) in
the format DD-MM HH24:MM:SI (i.e. 01-09 13:55:02).
I then insert the data from Sysstat_ext into Sysstat - the conversion being performed thus:

SELECT ROUND(TO_DATE (Sysstat_ext.M_Time, 'DD-MM HH24:MI:SS'), 'MI') AS "Measurement Time",

So, I redid the whole procedure removing the ROUND and also the AS "Measurement Time" (in case of artefacts)

Still the same result - Sysstat_ext shows the time and Sysstat doesn't. I would have expected the

This is definitely a bug IMHO. Can I report it anywhere? As an aside, I originally thought that 3rd party tool
manufacturers such as Quest and Allroundautomations would be quaking in their boots with a
tool like SQLDeveloper (for free*) coming from the manufacturer of Oracle itself - I see now that
at the moment, they have little to worry about.

Building libraries and samples....this can't be right, is it?

I realize that I can simply check out built SWC files from here, but this doesn't help me build the samples. I feel like I've missed some corner of the documentation, because my procedure for building Cairngorm 3 libraries and samples seems like it can't possibly be right.
I've tried creating a new workspace and checking out the entire contents of this repository into it:

That seems to succeed, although I get errors like this every time:

configuration variable 'compiler.library-path' value contains unknown token 'M2_REPO'    ContractTest        Unknown    Flex Problem
I've fixed that problem by getting http://opensource.adobe.com/svn/opensource/cairngorm3/maven-repository to my C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4 Plug-in folder and setting M2_REPO in my workspace's Linked Resources to point to that.
Having done all that, everything seems to build except for IntegrationDMS and IntegrationTest.
Is this the right way to do it, or is there a simpler way?

As you know by now Cairngorm3 build is leveraging maven and flex-mojos.
To ease the developper workflow, to make things more consistent, to lower the maintenance cost, we decided :
* to stop copying the dependencies in the flashbuilder projects libs folder
* to leveraged the maven repository in the eclipse/flasbuilder projects configurations.
Furthermore, to avoid hard coded path and allow proper sharing of these flasbuilder configurations files, we use linked-resources when appropriate.
M2_REPO is used as such: it is the root of your maven repository.
As for IntegrationDMS it offers some "flex plumbing" to ease the integration with Adobe LCDS (http://www.adobe.com/products/livecycle/dataservices/) especially its Data Management features, hence its name.
In order to build it from the source you need to compile it against 3 SWCs provided in Adobe LCDS. As found in the build file

Because of this, flexMojos cannot host this artifact. To build from source, you will need to install this artifact into your own private repo:

Another one here who has just climbed up from windows onto the mac wagon.
Anyways I've recently went and got me the 2014 top spec macbook pro (15", 2.5ghz, 16gb , NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 2GB GDDR5),
and decided to install Steam for the odd game here and there. First thing i installed was The Binding of Isaac, not expecting any performance issues since it's a 2D, very basic game, however I am getting serious lag and frame rate drop. Not sure what is going on here considering my specs, and the simplicity of the game and its very low minimum requirements. It is very frustrating when this is a £2000 laptop.
Any suggestions/reasoning would be greatly appreciated.

I've deleted apps, pic, vids and virtually every app I've got and my memory is still showing I'm at 10gb on apps. Ive no games just facebook instagram and so on. has anyone else had this problem?

The amount of space taken by an app depends on the app's purpose; complex or graphically intense apps usually take more space than simpler apps.

How can I omit albums from Cover Flow?

I have a long list of Music I want on my iPod but would like to omit several entire albums from the Cover Flow. Can someone please advise me on how to do this.

There's no provided way of omitting selected items from cover flow however if you don't need to use the Audiobooks feature for it's intended purpose you could tell iTunes that the selected albums are Audiobooks. A drawback however is that the Audiobooks section on the iPod hasn't been updated to reflect the changes that make multi-track audiobooks much easier to work with in iTunes 8.x. The iPod will jumble all the tracks of the albums up in ascending track name order. The workaround for this is to ignore the Audiobooks section of the iPod and create playlists to access these albums that you've hidden from the Cover flow. This approach would also hide these albums from the general Artist & Album menus which may not be what you want...

Cover Flow mode crashes on iOS 5.0.1

Hi,
I've just upgraded my iPod touch 4 to iOS 5.0.1. As a result, I can't use Cover Flow at all because it causes 'Low Memory' error and, as a result, stops playing, shows a rotating progress bar and 'Enter Passcode' screen at the end. (BTW, I have only a few albums on the device not, not hundreds or more)
Thus, the only way I fixed it now - locked screen rotation in Portrait mode preventing Cover Flow. But it's not a best option, I'm sure.
Could anybody suggest how to reduce overall RAM consumption? I've turned off such things as FaceTime etc, disabled most of notifications. It didn't help. I've read here only about slow Cover Flow, but not about crashing.
In addition, I'd be glad to be able to downgrade back to iOS 4.3.5. But seems I can't do it legally, can I?
BTW, why iTunes doesn't give me a chance to decide to do upgrade or not? For example, it can display a requirements of new OS version, compared with device hardware I have, therefore I can see that 256 MB RAM is not enough. It would be fair. But now I'm at 'trap' - iTunes didn't prevent updating which actually makes things worse, but doesn't allow to downgrade back...

Hey was looking for an article about these cover flow errors finally. As for my itouch 4.3 no errors, but after upgrading to 5.0 I am experienceing the crashes.I got my earlies itouch replaced for this error but the new one I recieved 3 days ago also had the same problems.I believe its the firmware.Pls let me know if you find anything.

From Cover Flow repeat / play album only?

Is there a way to have iTunes play/repeat just an album when selected via Cover Flow?
(It's probably just me not seeing the option.)
When one selects an album via 'Grid View -> Albums' only that album and its songs get selected. That's exactly what I'd like to have when selecting the album via Cover Flow.
However if that an album is selected via Cover Flow, this album and all songs following are listed.
Playing the album ends up playing everything... Yet I'd only like to repeat-play that album.
Checking/Unchecking all songs individually (even via shift-cmd) to select just the album songs for play is not my idea of a good solution.

There are two ways I know, but one is clunky and the other could be very time-consuming to set up.
1) Make sure all the tracks in your library are unchecked. Then, check only the tracks in the album you want to play. You can use Uncheck All to do the first part, and then select the album tracks, right-click on one of them and click Check Selected. Or you can click the checkmarks on individually. Then, if you select the first album track and click Play iTunes will play through all the tracks that are checked and then stop. I haven't tried doing this with repeat, but it should repeatedly play the album tracks in sequence.
2) You could build a playlist for every album you want to play through. Then, to play the album play the playlist.
Unfortunately, iTunes does not provide a "play album" control. Perhaps Apple sees playing albums through in this manner like CDs or (worse) vinyl LPs as hopelessly 20th Century and something to be discouraged?
