Paint bucket tool and its barriers

I'm using the paint bucket tool on a graphing calculator image and the -6.67 interferes with the line so the paint bucket tool fills in gray where it isn't supposed to go.  I tried to fill in the line with the freeform pen tool and the line tool, but the paint bucket tool still fills in the gray wrong. Can you help?..The same problem happens at 10 as well.

It does sound like a lot.  I'm not at a computer with PS, so I can't post screen shots, but this is what you do:
create a duplicate copy of your graph layer by pressing ctrl/cmd-J.  Set the blending mode to "Multiply," which is the drop down menu at the top of the layer pallet.  You can turn off this layer for a bit while you do the other steps by clicking on the eye in the layer pattet.
Select the other visible graph layer, and select the brush tool (B) and and a hard edged brush.  Set the foreground color to white (I'm assuming your graph layer is white and black and not black with transparency.)  Paint over the lettering between the line that is broken.
Then set the foreground color to black and reduce the brush size to the size of your line.  Paint in a line to fill the gap (there are other ways to do this such a a stroked path).
Now that the line is filled in, select the magic wand tool (w).  Make sure the check box in the main menu is checked for contiguous, so it just selects the enclosed area and not all the white area.
From the main menu, you can increase the selection size by clicking of Select>Modify>Expand.  Set the value to 1 pixel.  This will help from getting a white line near your black lines.
Create a new layer by clicking on the new layer icon in the layer's pallet (at the bottom) or by pressing ctrl-shift-N.
Now you can fill the selection on the new layer by pressing ctrl-backspace for the current background color, or alt-backspace for the current foreground color.
Press ctrl/cmd-D to deselect the selection and you can then turn on the visibility of your graph layer.

  • Paint Bucket tool and scanned imges

    Hi,
Not a problem this apart from my ability to understand how
things work! - so sorry if this is a really stupid question - but
I'd be grateful if someone could enlighten me
If I draw (using old fashioned pen and paper) an line image
with a fair amount of detail, scan it and open it in Fireworks, I
can use the Paint Bucket tool to fill various parts of the image
with different colours (in other words it recognises the boundaries
between parts of the drawing.) This suits the way I like to work
    perfectly
On the other hand, other packages (including FreeHand) don't
seem to be able to do this.
Am I missing something - or is there something unique about
    the way Fireworks works?
    Thanks
    Roger

    Roger,
Once you select the Paint Bucket Tool look in the Properties
    panel and
make sure the Fill Selection checkbox is unchecked. Play
    around with the
Tolerance setting to get the results you want.

  • The paint bucket tool and patterns in Photoshop CC have stopped working, how to fix?

Suddenly the paint bucket is not filling, and patterns are not filling either with bucket or fx on layer.
I tried resetting patterns to default, but that did not help. I restarted my computer, no help, either. Any suggestions? thanks!

What document? what layer? what tool settings? you need to provide more info. Most likely you have simply changed a setting somewhere.

  • Paint Bucket Tool and Rounded Corners

Hello everyone. First and foremost I have to mention that I am kind of a newbie with PS, so go easy on me.
I have been using the bucket tool in order to fill the background of some images, but after a while the colour I selected resulted in a different shade. For example, black resulted in grey and so on. What can be the source of this? Have I accidentely selected something which does this?
Another problem I have is about creating rounded corners for an image. I used this tutorial http://www.websitemagazine.com/content/blogs/posts/archive/2008/09/03/round-corners-in-pho toshop.aspx and it worked great the first few times, but than the area around the corners became white instead of being transparent. I followed the exact stepts as in that tutorial but with no effect.
Example: it looks ok, but that's because of the white background of the page, move it to some place which is coloured and the white areas appear.
Also, is there another, easier way to create this rounded corners?
    Thank you for your time.

Here's another way to create the rounded corners image:
    1. Duplicate the background layer
    2. select the rounded rectangle tool set to shape and set your radius in the tool options bar
    3. draw out the rounded rectangle (the color for the rectangle doesn't matter)
    4. move the shape layer below your duplicated layer in the layer stack
    5. click on the shape layer in the layers panel
    6. go to Layer>Create Clipping Mask
    7. Trim the image by going to Image>Trim>Transpaerent Pixels

  • Live paint bucket tool problem.

    hello.
im trying to use my live paint bucket tool and when i choose it i dont get a bucket with 3 color blocks but rather just a bucket with one color block, whats wrong?

The Live Paint Bucket tool lets you paint faces and edges of Live Paint groups with the current fill and stroke attributes. The tool pointer displays as either one or three color squares, which represent the selected fill or stroke color and, if you’re using colors from a swatch library, the two colors adjacent to the selected color in the library. You can access the adjacent colors, as well as the colors next to those, and so on, by pressing the left or right arrow key.

  • Coloring issues with magic wand tool and paint bucket tool, leaves uncolored areas near drawn lines

Photoshop CS6 doesn't color properly.  Whetever I use brush tool or elliptical marquee tool to do the lines (with brush tool I use Hard Round, not soft), it doesn't color the whole area when i fill them with color. This happens with both magic wand tool AND paint bucket tool, there is always a small uncolored area near the lines. I have tolerance on 30,  and anti-alias, contiguous and sample all layers boxes checked. (this setting worked on my old CS3) I have tried tolerance from 0 to 100, no difference. I have also tried unchecking the boxes I just mentioned, still no difference. I hope there is a solution for this, because it is tedious to always go to the Select - Modify - Expand every time I need to color some area. So how do I fix this problem? I use seperate layers for lines and colors, like I have always done with other Photoshop versions. Even in school where they have CS5 those normal settings work.

    Hello Chris,
I don't think this is a "user error". I think Adobe should be able to program a state of the art paint bucket, which is capable to get this done right.
Other applications are able to get this done right.
Please don't fall into a programmer's ignorance ("this is done right by definition") but listen to us artists and improve this unintuitive behavior. Add something like "ignore transparent pixels", because this doesn't even work if you draw on an empty layer.
    Thank you!

  • Live Paint Bucket tool Question

    Hello Illustrators.
Its been a while since I've used this tool. But I'm facing an issue I cannot understand.
I'm seeing some tutorials and as I try to follow along I cannot have the same functions of the tool as demonstrated.
My live paint bucket tool does not have the same options as the tutor. He can swipe his arrow keys and get the colours from the colour pallet, while I only have one colour available.
I have to continuously have to go to my colour pallet and choose a colour in order for my shapes to be filled. But when it comes to colouring a stroke of my shape then no problems I can swipe and get my colour
selection. Id like to be able to use it for my fill colour as well to be swipe my arrow keys and see the colours available if it makes sense.
Top Image is what Id like to achieve.
The bottom image is what I have in my art board document. as seeing only one colour is available, and that I have to click on my colour pallet to get a colour. No swiping with arrow keys is available.
    Thank you.

    Hello Craig!
yes it is! Its the 1st time I'm coming across this problem, I'm getting frustrated not being able to work this issue out...
As you can see everything is checked.
And also as you can see, like I was stating in my original post, the option to swipe with arrow keys only applies to the stroke of the shape, and not the fill.

  • Live Paint Bucket tool Missing in Illustrator CS5

The Live Paint Bucket tool does not appear in the tools palette in Illustrator CS5. I have looked at other threads which suggest removing the preferences file 'Adobe Illustrator CS5 settings'. I did this and it had no effect. There is no blank space in the palette where the button should be, it is just completely absent, like it was never installed (either that or its hidden somewhere- I'm quite new to Illustrator). However, I can still create a 'live paint group' using 'Objects-live paint-make' in the drop down menu at the top of the screen. it is just the button that is absent, so I can't colour the object. I'm not sure if it the button was ever there as I only installed the software a couple of weeks ago. I only needed it now. I have not yet tried re-installing Illustrator. This is really a last resort. I'm using Windows Vista if that helps.
    Any help is much appreciated.

The the Shape Builder TLive Paint Bucket tool lives together with the Shape Builder Tool and the Live Paint Selection Tool in one toolgroup. To reach either of them without using a shortcut simply press the tool shown and hold and you will see the other tools and can choose them. That's the method with all tools that have a small black arrow in the bottom righthand corner of its toolbutton., more tools hide in the same group.

  • How do you connect lines for a drawing in order to use the live paint bucket tool?

Hello! Im fairly new (okay not really) to using adobe illustrator
I used the Image trace tool to outline this drawing of Captain America but unfortunately the lines arent connected and therefore
messes up my colouring completely when I use the Live Paint Bucket tool.
Is there a way to connect the lines so they are closed when I colour it? Or is there another way to color this drawing?
    Help would be greatly appreciated!

Those gaps are very wide. Draw some paths and apply no fill, no stroke to them.
Then make the live paint. In case the live paint already exists, you can go into isolation mode and then draw the paths. Or draw them and use Object > Live paint > Merge

  • X on bottom of Live Paint Bucket tool

Thanks guys for helping me find the Paint bucket tool.
All I have is a simple cartoon face that I have drawn, scanned and brought over and using Live Paint.
I can get the paint to fill the face area, but it won't let me do one of the ears. It gives me an X on the bottom of the paint bucket.
What can I do to get that X to go away and let me fill that ear with a colour?
    Thanks
    Bob

Select the repsective object, convert it to a Live Paint group first from the Object menu. If that option is not available, you may need to expand the object first and release any clipping masks or nested compound paths.

  • AI5 Live Paint Bucket Tool

I am totally a newbie to Adobe Illustrator. I'm using the trial version of AI5.
I have scanned and created an artboard with my drawing.
I have switched over to Live Paint mode, but cannot find the Live Paint Bucket Tool.
According to their instructions, it is suppose to be with the Eyedropper Tool.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong or where the tool could be?
Thanks so much for your help.
    Bob

Scott misunderstood the query the Live Paint Bucket is underneath the shape builder tool and above the perspective grid tool in the tool bar and below the Free Transform tool.
    Cross posting.

  • Paint bucket tool after drawing with brush tool

    Hi,
I am just wondering if there is anyway to paint using the paint bucket tool properly after drawing something using the brush tool. Although I have no gaps anywhere within the outline , there are times where the paint bucket tool doesn't paint.  Another issue I encounter is whenever I try to adjust the shape with the selection tool it either fills a portion of the shape with color and even sometimes makes the shape itself disappear.  Is there a way to only select a small portion of the drawing (like the way it is with pencil tool) as the shapes were done using a couple of strokes instead of just one.

    Hi,
You can use use paint bucket tool to change the color of lines drawn with brush. And to be sure that there are no gaps select the line with subselection tool because visually you cannot make out as the gaps are defined in pixels. Also you can select parts of fill region with selection tool if the painting with brush is done in shape mode not object drawing mode.Hope this helps.
    Thanks,

Ok - I'm new to photoshop (I just got cs4) and can't seem to get the paint bucket tool to paint the background.  I've started out with a new canvas, selected paint bucket and color from color menu on right side.  Foreground is selected and the paint bucket tool is showing on my cursor - when I click on it over my canvas I expected it to change to the color I selected and it does nothing.  Help??

I am having the same problem and have checked the mode.  Normal.  Still not working- I have tried eve
rything includig unlocking the layer- checking the opacity and tolerance.
using it with other photos and still nothing.

The paint bucket tool is not working properly. The colors does not change, any suggestion?

    Maybe on the wrong layer.
It would be more beneficial if you capture your screen with the layers panel open and any layers that are collapsed, expand them.

  • Where can I find the paint bucket tool

where can I find the paint bucket tool

Which version of photoshop and operating system are you using?
Generally the Paint Bucket Tool is grouped in the same tool slot as the Gradient Tool in the tool box.
You can click and hold on the tool icons in the tool box to see the hidden tools.
(hidden tools are preset if there is a small black or white triangle to the lower right of the tool icon in the tool box)
