Paint Chipping off macbook pro keys?

I bought my macbook pro in August of 2012, recently over time the paint has begun to chip on 3 of my keys, I was wondering if apple will replace theys keys, I have the additional apple care, but I am willing to pay to get the keys fixed.
Does anyone know if apple will fix this and how much it will cost?
Thanks!

What service/repair plan will they likely to give me?

Help! My MacBook Pro keys Q-O aren't not working. I've tried doing a Pram restart, but it won't work as keys P & R aren't working, and I can't login as my password contains broken keys. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

  • Paint chipping off?

So, my Macbook is just over a year old and I've had some problems all year long. First, my enterkey didn't function all of a sudden, and they replaced the entire keyboard and lower encasing.
Then, the lights on my macbook didn't function, lights like the battery-indicator, the shift-key-light... Again they replaced the entire lower part of my computer. This was all under waranty.
Now my MBP just fell out of the waranty-zone, and it seems like the edge near the trackpad is starting to chip off? I didn't even know the MBP are painted, aren't they supposed to be made out of one solid block of aluminium?
It's like black tiny dots, and it feels kind of rough too.
    What should I do?

    Thomas A Reed wrote:
How exactly do you sand pits out of a piece of aluminum?
Don't sand the pits out, just the rough edges so when one's hand or finger brushes over it so it's smooth to the touch.
There's nothing you can to do remove scratches or pits without affecting the finish of the surrounding area
The pits can be filled and any rough edges can be buffed without affecting the surrounding area with the proper tool and attachments.
Color matching with fill material will be the hardest part.
Just because you tend to think it can't doesn't make it so.  Put a buffing head on one of these.

  • Macbook Pro Key issue

I have a 13 inches macbook pro which is still under warranty.
Unfortunately one of the keys came out and when i took it to the service centre i got a reply that the outer part of the key is damaged and cannot be replaced.
I was told that it's a "physical damage" and will not be covered warranty.
The solution, according to the service center, is to get the entire key board replaced...
I am disappointed and shocked to know that apple does not provide us with spare key caps.
Just to point out, the inside hinges are undamaged so effectively its the key cap that needs replacement.
If i have to shell out a handsome amount of money just to get a minor thing fixed then i am better off without a mac....
    Really disappointed

  • Macbook Pro Key repeat problem

I've had my MacBook Pro for almost 2 years now but it's recently started to have keyboard repeat issues. The keys are not physically stuck but behave like they are, in a totally random manner - including the delete key and the space bar. Messages will end up lookinggggggg a bittttttt like thissssssssssssss. Very annoying.
This tends to be accompanied by a sluggish trackpad too. Then after a while - it behaves normally again.
I have nothing else attached - anyone any ideas?
    Thanks
    curlydog

I've been having an occasional key repeat problem for a while, I'd say for a year. I'll be typing, and then I'll stop, and the last key I pressed starts repeating and keeps going until I press another key. I've also seen it miss characters sometimes. This happens more often than a key repeating by itself. I'll be sure I pressed a key, but I get "wrds like ths." Maybe I'm just not pressing a key "deep" enough. Sometimes I've tried typing a bit slower and that seems to help.
I regret not bringing my laptop in for someone to look at earlier, but I've been very busy for the last couple years. The problem hasn't occurred often enough to make it a problem that I felt compelled to solve right away. It just feels like an annoyance, like, "Come on. This shouldn't have made it off the line like this!" I don't want to start a "war", but I had a Windows laptop before my Mac and I never had these problems with the keyboard. There are other attributes I like about my Mac, so it's annoying but not a big deal for me.
I usually run VMWare Fusion 2.0, and I've suspected that it's a culprit. The problem doesn't just occur on web pages, though that's where I usually notice it when it happens. I've seen it in TextEdit as well. What I notice is it happens when I've got something else running in the background taking up CPU time. Maybe the computer is swapping to/from disk. Sometimes I've seen it happen on a web page with some slow Javascript on it, again taking up CPU time. It seems to me it's a matter of the hardware or software missing the signal from the keyboard. Perhaps it's related to the "keyboard sleep" problem, which I've also seen, where the keyboard and trackpad just go dead. In this case I put the computer to sleep for a bit and then wake it back up. That brings both back for a bit, but it usually reoccurs, in which case I reboot it.
I've been hoping that Apple would come out with a patch for the key repeat problem. So far I haven't seen it. Would an upgrade to Snow Leopard fix it?

  • Help! Cannot restart of switch off Macbook Pro

Hi All! An idiot's guide is needed to resolve the following problem:
I cannot switch off or restart my Macbook Pro. The only command that works is "sleep". Even after updates requiring a restart clicking "restart" does not result in anactual restart. The only way to turn off is using the power button. What could this be? Sharing does not have any effect. The problem us there whether or not any type of sharing is on.
I installed MacTuneUp software not long ago and there could be a connection. What did I do wrong?
    Thanks!
    Nicholas
P.S. Changed from a PC, but very easily and already months ago, so that is not an issue.

    Hello Nicholas,
Have you tried booting from your restore disk(s) to check the hard disk for errors? ? If not...
follow these instructions to verify the hard disk for errors:
Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.
Select your disk, and click First Aid.
    Click Verify Disk.
If the disk needs repairs, do one of the following:
Insert your Mac OS X Install disc in your computer’s optical drive or an optical drive connected to your computer, and then restart your computer. When you hear the startup tone, hold down the C key until you see the progress indicator, which looks like a spinning gear.
Follow the onscreen instructions until the menu bar appears with the Utilities menu in it, choose Utilities > Disk Utility, click First Aid, and then click Repair Disk. When Disk Utility is finished, from the Menu Bar select Utilities/Startup Disk. Select MacintoshHD 10.5 in the window and click: Restart
If you don’t have a Mac OS X Install disc, restart your computer while holding down the Shift key. As your computer starts up, it performs a disk check similar to the one Disk Utility performs.

  • Finish coming off Macbook Pro around bottom of keyboard

I just purchased my Macbook Pro about a year ago now and there's a spot where the finish is coming off. The little strip below the bottom row of keys has a little spot where the finish is rubbing off.
What should I do about this.. is it fixable? Also my Warranty just ran out.. will this be costly?
    Cheers,
    Andy

When it happened to my PowerBook after about six months, I was quoted a couple of hundred dollars to replace the top. I decided just to live with it, and when I bought a MBP to replace it, my first accessory was some surface protectors from http://apeelz.com.
Warranty wouldn't have covered it anyway, unless you managed to find a particularly sympathetic customer support representative-- AppleCare doesn't generally cover cosmetic issues.

  • Yosemite: Turning off Macbook Pro screen (lid open) with external monitor connected

Here we go again, this worked pre-Yosemite. Now it seems this trick no longer works. After following these steps again the screen on my Macbook Pro now turns on after logging in and opening the clam shell.
Anyone figure out/know a way to turn off the screen on the Macbook Pro with external monitors plugged in? (yes, closing the clam shell–but I'm referring to keeping the clam shell open with the display turned off)
    http://gizmodo.com/5938452/a-trick-to-make-using-an-external-monitor-with-your-m acbook-way-better
    To execute in Terminal:
    sudo nvram boot-args="iog=0x0"
    To undo in Terminal:
    sudo nvram -d boot-args
Once you type it into terminal I believe you need to enter your password. I then restart my machine. Now the TRICK is to either restart your machine with the lid already closed (hit restart then slam the lid!) OR turn the machine on for the first time (then quickly slam the lid!) once you are past the login screen you can open the lid.

Has anyone experimented with tip 2 (active corners)?  Perhaps it still works.

  • Upgraded macbook pros key board lights wont work after 10.7 upgrade

I have a macBook Pro model A1260. The Hard drive was replaced along with a super drive. This is a new experience but have finally gotten it up and running with Mountain lion. After a restart the keyboard lights stopped working. They had been functioning after the hard drive install but sadly remain dark after the new X upgrade. Hitting the illumination key for the keys shows a circle with a line through it on the screen. The keys still function. Did I fry something? Joeza

  • Running a Wacom Cintiq 22HD off MacBook Pro 13"?

    Hey guys,
Just to clear things up i dont know much and computers but anyway, I want to buy a Wacom Cintiq 22HD and I have MacBook Pro 13" and ill be running the Cintiq off the MBP if i were to buy it, I'll be running software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign (All CS6) on it, but mainly Photoshop. I just want to know if it will run fine, no lagging or anything like that. I was told that it will lag due to my MBP's Graphics card, so i just want to confirm. I've contacted Apple and they couldn't exactly help, all i got was that they dont know of any problems from their side. I'm also in the process of getting and answer from Wacom, so far they have said check the minimum requirments for the software, but all the software work fine on my MBP.
The specifations for my MBP are:
Processor  2.9 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8.4 (12E55)
    Regards, Peter

Assuming their system requirements are met, these drivers will be needed.  From the sounds of it, you just need a free USB port.   You may need it to be wall powered though as sometimes Apple has a low powered USB port, or one that doesn't provide enough power after the machine goes to sleep.

  • Firewire Chip - New Macbook Pro

    Hi,
I was wondering what kind of chip is used for the firewire interface in
the new Macbook Pro? I hope it still is a Texas Instrument one ...
otherwise I´ll probably have troubles with my audio interfaces.
    Thanks for the help!

    handar76 wrote:
The manufacturer is Deltaco I think. Just a cable including converter (or maybe even not). I'm gonna buy an adapter right away and try.
No conversion necessary, just a different connector, but the interface should downshift to the slower speed automatically. Perhaps you can confirm via System Profiler that the device is connected and at slower speed? Are you familiar with System Profiler utility?
You did say that a FW400 HD also did not work with your cable, right? I heard elsewhere on this topic that audio devices are somewhat suspect due to the FW chipset on the late 2008 MBP. I don't know if the M-Audio was the device mentioned.
Did you actually try a FW800 device? If you have a device (LaCie Big Disk) with multiple interfaces(FW400 & FW800) that would be ideal to try. I know from reading that 'target mode' will no longer work, so that's out. Just brainstorm to find some device that should work at FW800 directly or call Apple Support to confirm which FW400 devices/cables/adapters should work before you spend big $$.
    My 2¢.
