Paired wireless keyboard can't type

my original wireless keyboard died after several years of use and I just purchased a replacement. I am paired and the function keys work but the alpha-numeric, and symbol keys do not. I was able to use the number keys to type in the pairing code but after that the number keys do not generate a response. Is this operator error or faulty keyboard?
Thank you
Simon

Is this an Apple keyboard? If no, who is manufacturer? Did you install their software?

  • Why is my Apple Wireless Keyboard connected and paired, but I can't type anything?

    Hey,
I’ve been using Apple Wireless Keyboard (A1314) for a year now. Yesterday it stopped working. I can see it’s connected and paired, but I can't type. I tried unparing and pairing it again and sometimes it helps - I have no idea why, but once in ten attempts it works. When it works, though, some strange happen - like my Mac increases it’s volume level like I hit F12 on the keyboard.
When I go to Bluetooth menu battery level is hardly ever shown up. Also, when my keyboard is connected it takes a few seconds to open forementioned bluetooth menu.
So, it there change I will be able to repair it? It’s not like it costs $5. :c

    Hello:
    Try resetting the SMC.

Thanks, I'm typing this message from an external keyboard borrowed from one of my schools iMac. It is working fine so could this be a serious hardware issue? I upgraded the RAM from 4 gb to 16 gb thinking that would solve the slowness/beachball issue but it didn't. Could it possibly be a faulty SATA cable or time to upgrade my hard drive as well?
I'm feeling like this is beyond my reach and do not want to damage my MBP further. I'll shut it down and take it to the tech store on campus and hope they have mercy on my wallet. Thanks for the help.

  • Wireless keyboard is paired, but i can't type on it

hello. i just paired my new wireless keyboard to my ibook G4, but it won't let me type!
under bluetooth in system prefs it shows it as paired, configured, and connected. the top buttons work, like dashboard, brightness, volume, etc. but nothing else works. no numbers, letters, even the caps light won't come on.
can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong? i've paired it twice now, turned it on and off, updated all the software and still the same thing. please help!
    thanks!

    Hello,
    Try deleting this file. com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your Mac. See if that helps.

  • "found" Apple keyboard can't type to enter pairing code onto screen?

Our Apple TV update completed successfully, and we proceeded to pair one of our Apple wireless keyboards to our Apple TV via bluetooth.
We followed instructions and our Apple TV found our Apple Keyboard, but we ran into a snag when typing on our keyboard to enter the pairing code wouldn't produce numbers on the screen.  Typing had no effect at all.
My husband went around and un-paired that keyboard to his computer and to mine, in case that was the issue.  No improvement.
While I'm asking, will we be able to leave a keyboard paired with both a computer and the AppleTV if not using both at the same time?
What can we do to get beyond this impasse?
    Thnx!

Is this an Apple keyboard? If no, who is manufacturer? Did you install their software?

  • The bluetooth keyboards pairs, but I can't type.

The blue tooth keyboards do pair, but after that no keystrokes are recognized by the Mac.I have tried with three different bluetooth keyboards with the same results, so it's not the keyboard itself. Mouse works though. I have tried to pair the keyboard again, but with the same results. I am currently on iOS Mountain Lion. Also Mouse Keys are disabled, so that's not the issue. Anyone experienced the same and found a solution?

    Hello:
I reread your post.  OS X 10.8 and iOS are different.  What are you trying to pair the KB with?  I also did not ask if the keyboards are Apple devices......
Since tyou said you have tried with three keyboards, it obviously is not a faulty KB.  One other thing I can think of to try requires a working KB (reset the PRAM).
You might also trash a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restart.
Is one of the keyboards new (and Apple branded)?  If so, I would take it to an Apple store and talk to someone at the genius bar.

  • Help!  Wireless Keyboard will not type!

    Hi to all!
Long time existing problem. My wireless keyboard from time to time unresponsive. I cannot type anymore (Right now I type with the keyboard viewer). Reported to Apple before and got new keyboard but problem still existing. Very frustrating. I'm living on an island and it would be a huge effort to carry the unit back to the dealer.
I cannot type, caps lock and space bar not working. Other keys like delete, command, shift and upper line are working.
I repaired permission, restart and shut down several times already, but it won't work. Earlier times it was working after a restart but not now. It is indicated that keyboard and mouse is paired and on.
I have a mid 2009 Mac Pro model. I'm running on Snow Leopard with latest updates.
Now also my pointer didn't respond anymore and had to shut down by pressing the power button.
Finally now after starting again everything is back to normal.
Has anybody similar problems? What can I do? If cannot do my editing work, my computer is worthless for me. I had times i was even unable to save all my work because of that.
I hope some insider can help me, please.
    Michael

hi again, i just found a solution to my problem so i hope it helps you.

  • Problems pairing wireless keyboard with Mac mini

    Hi,
I just bought a new Mac mini with wireless keyboard and mouse and cannot pair the wireless keyboard during the initial set up. Took out the batteries, turned off the mini, still doesn't work. I'm looking into borrowing a regular USB keyboard an running through the set up with this so I can get started. Is there another solution?
    Thanks.

Isn't it great when you solve your own problems. The USB keyboard allowed me to get up an running. When I went to the bluetooth preferences, I set up the wireless keyboard and haven't had a problem since.

  • Bluetooth wireless keyboard can't be recognized by my mac.

    Hi,
I just bought a bluetooth keyboard (CMIIT ID: 2009DJ5133. Model: A1314, 2 batteries)
My iMAC can recognize the keyboard but some function keys can't be used. Such as volume control (F10, F11, F12) and I can't read battery volume of the new keyboard. ( I had an old one which is A1225 and can read it in 'System Preferences' and works fine though it has a dirty face ).
I searched on this website and tried some methods but still failed.
    My OS is 10.5.8
I tried to install wireless keyboard update 2.0 which indicates to solve this problem (malfunction of F10,11,12) but NOT work.
I tried to install '2009 Aluminum keyboard firmware update' but the system told me 'No 2009 Aluminum Apple Keyboards were found'
I tried 'disconnect keyboard' -> turn off it -> turn on it (found in this community) --> NOT work again.
    I tried 'command + options + P + R' to reset the PRAM -> NOT work...
I tried on a Macbook too (10.5.8) and failed too
Am I in a dead loop? I try to install update for my 2009 aluminum keyboard but system tells me I don't have one. Or that's why the update 2.0 took no effect.
So far, the problem is still there -> I'm typing with the new keyboard but It's not perfect. One-touch controls -- brightness and volume controls, still NOT WORK! What should I do now? Reinstall the OS or upgrade to 10.6. It seems it's a common issue. Does Apple have a solution? (HT3932 seems to target this problem, but it seems it doesn't work.)
Any way out? Thanks a lot!
    John

    Hi John:
That article is strange.....it is in conflict with the requirements for the KB on this web site.
    1) Can I setup keyboard shortcuts manually for volume control? I've done that for brightness function. But can't find volume control.
I don't know...I don't use KB shortcuts.  If you install OS X 10.7, the keyboard icon/F-keys do it automatically.
    2) Per my hardware configuration above, is it ok to run 10.6? I know my iMac is old but it runs pretty good. I'd like to upgrade but not sure if the hardware is suitable for 10.6 or even 10.7,10.8
I rarely make predictions , but, IMHO, your configuration would support the latest version of OS X just fine. The Apple guidance for OS X 10.7 is here:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
According to what I just read, you need to be on OS X 10.6 to upgrade to OS X 10.7 or OS X 10.8.  OS X 10.6 is still available from the Apple store:

  • New Mac mini & New Wireless Keyboard - can't complete setup

I just picked up a new Mac mini, and a new Apple wireless keyboard. I'm setting up the mini for the first time and i can't complete the setup because the new wireless keyboard doesn't seem to be recognized during the initial mini setup process. Should it be?
I can use the mouse to get me to the point where it requires me to setup an account, but without the keyboard I'm unable to do so.
Is this normal? I don't have a USB keyboard or I would have just plugged it in and finished. I should be able to do this with the new wireless keyboard, right?

I had the same problem with my wife's pre 2009 Intel Mini, had to use a USB KB to do a fresh install of SL, because the BT KB wasn't picked up.
Then on my early 2009 Mini I updated it from L to SL and after SL SW update found several updates, including a bluetooth update. When it came to applying the BT update, it said turn off BT, then proceed. Next came the need for me to enter my password to proceed, but that wasn't possible as the BT KB no longer responded. Fortunately I have a USB KB handy which did the trick.
So my conclusion is you need a USB KB as well as the BT KB, to manage a BT KB Mac. (With the above two examples I used a wired mouse)

  • 10.4.3 and Single User Mode, now Wireless Keyboard can

    Hello all.
IN case you haven't found out which I did, just to let you know, with the latest OS 10.4.3 update, now you can boot into Single User Mode (fsck) with your
    b wireless keyboard
and still at the same time
b continue to complete fsck process with your wireless keyboard!!
No more switching to a regular wired keyboard just to complete the process!
    Cheers

Hi Steven, bit unclear on a couple things.
When I went into single user mode the fans went wild. But I knew this to be normal and proceeded with repairing the disk
Normal for fans to go wild in single user or when repairing the disk?
I replicated the problem – applied the same fix and again every thing was normal.
The problem being screaming fan and the fix being resetting SMU? (unplug for 15secs). So how did you replicate it, and is it really fixed now?

  • Starting mac with new OS and non paired wireless keyboard

h\How do yopu set up an iMac with a new OS installed and with a wireless keyboard?

First make sure the batteries aren't dead and that the keyboard hasn't already been paired with another device. If it hasn't, the keyboard should pair automatically when you reboot. You may have to press and hold the power button on the right side of an Apple keyboard until the LED starts flashing.
    Otherwise see these support articles:
Mac mini (Mid 2011 and later) and iMac (Late 2012): Bluetooth keyboard may not pair during Setup Assistant
Apple Wireless Keyboard: Difficulty during pairing process
If you have a third-party Bluetooth keyboard, you may need a wired keyboard to complete the pairing process. It's a good idea to keep a cheap wired keyboard and mouse or trackball as backups for a desktop Mac anyway, because Bluetooth isn't completely reliable.

  • Cannot press enter after passkey to pair wireless keyboard on restarting iMac as enter was remapped

My wireless keyboard needed new batteries, when I replaced them it wouldn't repair so I rebooted the iMac as it said in another thread. When prompted for passkey I cannot press return/enter as previously it stopped working and I remapped R shift as enter- which I presume only operates if the system is paired?
Any help please to repair keyboard?

Connected a wired keyboard but when trying to pair the wireless keyboard it still wont pair as hitting R shift ( remapped as enter) is not accepted.
Hitting enter/retunt doesnt do anything either
    Any ideas anyone??
