PAL 32mhz and still only right channel audio

hi
i have captured first tape of 32mhz audio mini dv ape, and the auio playback is fine. It plays through both speakers on macbook.
I started to capture the 2nd tape, which was a continuation of the first tape, and the audio only plays back through the right speaker...
any suggestions?
thanks

Open the clip in the Viewer.
Select the audio Tab and dial the PAN to 0 (zero).
This will give you sound from both Speakers.

  • Noob.. GB '08 on MBP Won't Record Right Channel Audio

Hi, I'm a noob to Macs so please forgive me if I've missed something obvious.
I wanted to do some light, goofing around with GB '08 V 4.1.2 with my Roland V-Drums. The Roland V-Drum module output uses two, 1/4" jacks (a "Left" and "Right" channel) which I have coming together in a "Y"-shaped stereo adapter, plugged into my MBP (Latest Leopard - bought new last week - 4 gigs of RAM, updated all OS & GB files 3 days ago) and for the life of me, I cannot get anything to play in the right-channel audio *but only when recording in GB* - otherwise both audio channels work fine.
My Roland V-Drum unit can do mono by simply using one of the two designated Output channels; then I use a mono plug instead of a stereo. Even then I only get my drums recorded on the left side!
I've gone into every obvious configuration setting I can find - both in System Preferences>Sounds and those within GB '08, but for the life of me, cannot find where I've set something wrong. I've swapped cables and adapters. I've also tried speaking into a microphone plugged in and the same thing happens when recording in Garageband - only the left channel gets any sound. If you pan the result to the right, all the sound just goes away.
Anyone have any suggestions to try? Is this a bug? TIA...

Thanks to all. - But Matt, I know you just solved the "built-in stuff not working problem"! You certainly win whatever Grand Prize goes along with diagnosing "Drummer Dysfunctional Disorder". Your suggestion most certainly works with the built-in stuff - Thank you!
Your welcome and... I'm pretty sure the award for curing Drummer Dysfunctional Disorder is a combination Nobel Prize + sneakers with the Nobel logo embroidered onto it, which is really great since I could use a new pair. I'm only grateful that this didn't occur last year because I would feel terribly guilty if my own award interfered with Al Gore's since, as I have read, he is also thrilled by the complementary sneakers.
Now see if Apple was really smart, they'd have the *opening screen* of GB ask: "Are you a drummer?" and if you answer "Yes", well that would take us to a much simpler version! Hmm... Perhaps I could design it for them - or be the "Test Monkey". But I digress...
I'm guessing your humility is not exactly warranted... but perhaps an even easier version could be developed and named something like, I don't know, iTunes?
I'm happy to report that, thanks to you Matt, my stream of obscenities is not only causing the LED to register but... I can *record them in stereo* too! I'll try your final suggestion after I sleep on it. Today, the built-in mic... tomorrow, the world!
Words to the wise! (particularly when recorded in stereo and including obscenities)
(I still hope it's ok to leave this as "unanswered" until I try recording my drums instead of the built-in mic, tomorrow)
I suppose there's a sort of philosophical appeal to leaving all questions unanswered: for what is knowledge, and what can we truly know? But now I digress...
    So back to your Garagebanding.
The thing is, if you can get your internal mic to work just fine, stereo and everything, that lets you know that at least your system is working, and that there isn't a bug that's crawled into it and is messing things up. Knowing that, you can narrow down your search for the culprit. If the internal mic works just fine, and the software works just fine, what is it about your original setup that's broken?
I would go back to the notion that the computer never received both channels of your output (its input) to begin with, and that perhaps the physical plug is either mono or, by virtue of its shape, not able to properly seat itself in order to make contact on both channels. That's just a guess, but at least the search for the culprit has been narrowed down to likely suspects.
(One possibly helpful distinction: a mono signal can record to both channels through a stereo minijack, but perhaps if the minjack itself is mono - or not connecting to both channels of the input - the signal (stereo or otherwise) might be restricted to one side?)

  • Mythtv right channel audio squeel

I'm having a problem with mythtv and audio. For some reason, when I view TV in myth or record it, I get an high pitched alternating squeal which spurts for about a second and then stops for a second and so on.
I'm using a old bt878 card patched into my sound cards audio in jack. I have tried patching into both the mic and line in jack and both produce the squeal. However, I don't think it is a hardware problem. When I test the system using kdetv, there is no squeal at all. When I unmute line in using alsamixer so that I can hear both the live audio and myth's recorded audio, only mythtv's audio has the squeal. Using alsamixer to turn the master volume down to 0 in the right channel removes the squeal (but also right channel sound). However, using alsamixer to turn the recording device down two 0 in the right channel does not remove the squeal, but only removes the right channel audio.
I honestly don't know what the problem is. Could it be a mythtv recording problem? Could it be a codec problem? Could it be a DSP problem?
Is there some way I could test DSP to see if the squeal exists there?
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Colin

Ok, Í've done a little more fooling around. I changed the recording profile sample rate to 48000 which helped a fair amount. Now the squeal doesn't switch on and off. But now I get this weird thump noise about every 4 seconds, sort of like a static blip. Again this doesn't occur in other programs from mythtv. Any ideas?

  • MSI-Gm2-only one channel audio output

    Hi everybody ,
Its nice that guys are working hard to solve every one's problem. Keep it up !
Recently I upgraded the bios version to 1.4 (the latest) also the Realtek HD audio drivers but not system chipset drivers (which is 170mb too big).
Now I am able to hear only right channel of my onboard audio (ALC 888, 8.1 channel i guess) as I am using 2.1 channel. what could be the problem. Is it hardware problem or bios problem. My system configuration is as follows:
                      CPU: Amd 3800+ X2
                      MOBO: MSI-GM2 (690v chipset)
                      MEM: Kingston 1GB 667Mhz
                      VIDEO: onboard (ATI X1200)
                      HDD: Sata 80GB Samsung
If you guys can help me figure out what it is? Thnx in advance !

    Hi!
Chack audio settings in the Realtek console and in Windows Settings -> sound.
Why did you update bios? Was there some compatibility problem with your system that required the flash? If not, then keep in mind that updating bios when it's not needed can cause many problems. So, if nothing helps, you may want to flash back to the old version you had. Same goes for the drivers.
Now, please note: only flash back if nothing else solves this problem! I don't think that flashing the bios lead to this audio problem, so leave the bios alone for now. Try downgrading drivers. Newer drivers aren't always better ones!
Hi Hans! first of all thanks a lot for your kind reply. I updated my BIOS for no such reason. I thought it is always healthy to update BIOS to avoid future compatibilities problem (silly move of me I guess) and be future problem proof. I checked all the possibilities in Realtek concole but no improvement. I now noticed that when I switch off my PC the channel which is dead produces weird sound like shrill noise as the power of speaker is on. As now I switch off the UPS after PC shutdown the noise from the speaker goes off with the noise like Siren fading from High to low.
What do you think this is ? Oh sorry please do not get mad at me as I forgot to mention that I used Audio Splitter at the Line-Out (2.1 channel) to drive independent Audio Systems e.g. 1) low wattage lower end music system. 2) High end Audio system with High wattage. They both were driven simultaneously.
Do you thank I screwed it up ? In any case I shall follow what you suggested i.e. Flash Back to older version. Problem is I do not have Floppy Drive and I do not know how to do it with MSI live update. Your insight solicited and awaiting your expertise. Thnx a lot buddy. You care !

  • Headphone jack no right channel audio

So recently the right channel audio stopped working for my headphone jack. Any Ideas on how to fix this?

    I found a temporary solution :
    1) Open the registry editor (Windows key + R, then enter "regedit")
    2) Go to this directory :
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0001\Settings\Drv7246_DevType_0892_SS146210c7
or something that looks like that
    3) Change the settings as following :
    Pin 14 : 02 00 00 00
    Pin 18 : 04 00 00 00
    Pin 19 : 04 00 00 00
    4) Restart
    5) Check if it applied. If it doesn't, try again. Sometimes it doesn't work at the first try.
It actually remaps the Mic-in jack in a audio output. The sound coming out is a bit lower than the original output but it's still better than the crappy sound I've had since the headphone jack became a piece of .

  • Does FCP 4.5 have audio channel bug, and can only do 2 audio channels?

I transferred my digibeta project with 4 audio channels (2 are Music & Effects) to an uncompressed QT at a dubbing facility. I can play the QT with all 4 channels heard on my G-5 Powermac, but when I import the QT file into FCP 4.5 (to do some re-cutting), it will only import two audio channels (the Music & Effects) and not my other two stereo tracks with dialogue. and it's not the timeline because I have four channels available -- it's the actual imported file losses two of the audio channels on import into FCP. I tried importing the same file into iMovie and it plays all four channels, unlike FCP. I have three computers with 4.5, and each of them have the same problem. Is there a setting that will change this, or should I just throw FCP 4.5 away. Will I have the same problem with 6.0?
    Bryan

If you want to work with 4 Channels, throw out version 4.5 and get 6. Version 4.5 could only work with 2 channels. This changed with the 5.0 version. It's not really so much of a bug with 4.5 as just not being implemented in that version.

  • Imported DV plays only left channel audio

In working with iMovie HD 6, I've imported video from my DV camera and I'm only getting sound from the left channel (I used a lapel mic plugged into the camera while I was recording). Is there a way to mix the left channel audio into stereo, or at least two channel mono so that my movie and subsequent DVD project will play sound in both channels? I'd prefer to run the fix within iMovie, but will consider exporting if necessary. I can't recreate the original interview without a lot of work.

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
Yep, you can do it in GarageBand, just setting it to move the mono channel into both channels.
Or you could use the free, downloadable "Audacity", and just select the left channel, then copy it, and paste it into the empty right channel, like this.
However, to use the wonderful "Audacity", you've got to find your original audio in iMovie, then remove it from within its hidden storage, whereas GarageBand just "knows" where to find the audio if you send your movie there, so click on Share and then GarageBand, where you can select the Movie Sound track, and just turn the little 'panning' control, in the Mixer column, to the centre.

  • Left / Right Channel Audio mixing?

How do I mix the audio between the left and right audio channel?
I have a bunch of tape imported, but the audio is only in the left channel, so I need to either balance the audio, or duplicate the audio in the right channel... thanks in advance!

You should be able to do this by 'Exporting' your movie to GarageBand, and just making the one-channel audio the same on both channels.
Alternatively, if you want to do extensive tweaking manually, do the following:
0 - Download an audio editor such as 'Audacity'.
1 - In iMovie, select the video clip(s) which you want to 'repair', and then use 'Extract audio' to separate the audio from the video.
2 - Close iMovie, and use the usual Finder to locate your movie project, then Ctrl-click (or right-click) on the name of the project and choose "Show Package Contents".
3 - Look in the 'Media' file which then appears, and you'll find all your audio clips. Copy them to your Desktop.
4 - Start 'Audacity' and use File and Open to open the audio files, one by one, which are on your Desktop. Use these hints (intended for 'Sound Studio, but they work with 'Audacity', too, so click on 'Start Slideshow') to copy and paste one channel onto the other, then Save your work.
5 - Take those newly amended files on your Desktop, and copy them back into the 'Media' folder within your project (see 2 and 3, above).
6 - Reopen iMovie; the audio will now play correctly.

I want my TV to keep audio and ALSO send audio to and AirPort Express at the same time.
It seems that I can choose either Apple TV audio OR send to AirPlay device. I want both!
How can I send audio to both and AirPlay device and still keep audio on the HDMI connected TV?

    >Did Apple ditch the opportunity when they introduced Airplay and switched firmware ?
The first gen ATV has not been supported for getting close to like 5 years now.  So it does not have any of the newer features.  I still like it's user interface over the new one though.

  • No right channel audio on import from stero videos

When I import files using the import from camera command I loose the right channel from my videos but when import my videos using the import files command and import videos previously captured with FCP 7 the right channel is there. Why is FCP X not recognizing stero videos when importing from camera? Anyone else having this problem?

I have had exactly the same problem. See my posts. I found this happens when creating a camera archive from mini dv. When importing direct into the event (not using an archive), or extracting the files from the archive in the finder and importing directly using import files, it works! Please report the bug to apple.

  • Lost right channel audio

    Hi ya,
Recently I had to reset my pram and upon restarting found that the right audio channel doesn't give any sound. It affects both my M-Audio Revolution 7.1 and the built in audio. I've tried reseting the pram again as well as uninstalling and reinstalling the M-audio drivers (even though as stated above the built in audio suffers the same problem) and it had no effect. Anyone have any ideas?
    Power Mac G4 466   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

It could be something as simple as the sound balance
in System Preferances is set for left side only.
Make sure you check that, if it's not that it could
be a problem with the logic board.
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I've gone and fiddled with the balance and every other setting that I could in the System Prefs. It seems weird that it would just start right after resetting the pram. Oh well. Here's to hoping it's not the logic board. Thanks again for your suggestion.

  • Defective Right Channel Audio Post Fluid Accident

My MBP 15" A1211 received light spillage. The apparent damage was limited to loss of the keyboard backlight on 3/4 of the panel and, of greater concern, effective loss of the right speaker. Audio does pass, though far too faint and distorted to be useful. The left speaker/channel functions as per normal. Last night I successfully replaced the combined speaker assembly yet the same symptoms remain with no change. My knowledge of the guts of my machine is slight though growing.
Where should I go next up the signal chain to trouble shoot? Is there a dedicated audio amp onboard between the logic board & the speakers? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Sidenote: outside of my stated problem, all other hardware/processes have functioned normally without issue since the accident.

Welp guys, it wasn't alsa at all actually. More of a PEBKAC actually. Somehow, my cable for my headphones wasn't plugged all the way in to my computer. Thanks anyways!

  • Right-channel audio dead

My Nano suddenly stopped playing the right audio channel a couple of weeks ago. I've tried swapping the earbuds with different sets, which didn't help. The earbuds work fine in my iMac, so I assume it must be a problem in the 'Pod. Is this something I can fix, or do I need something replaced?

try doing a 'restore', process here...
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
this will erase everything on the ipod so make sure you have a copy of all your music etc. on your mac
if it is within warranty (1 year from purchase, unless you have extended warranty) then use the ipod service request site to get it repaired...
    http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
if you have no warranty cover then repair is unlikely to be economic, but you could probably sell it for parts on ebay/wherever and use the money towards a replacement
if you are comfortable using a soldering iron then you could open up the nano and see if there's a dry joint that you could reflow, but things are pretty tight inside
