PAL file missing on Tutorial DVD?

Maybe it's just me, but I can't find the PAL version of the Hockey multiclip file, as the Multiclip Synchronized folder is not in the PAL folder. although it is present in the NTSC folder. (Apple Final Cut Pro Training Tutorials DVD)
Is there a workaround? Or can I download it from somewhere?

TutWD_FlightList_Init .project file missing

Hello,
I am trying the TutWD_FlightList_Init tutorial.
I have downloaded the project.
For the first time I could successfully import this project into my workspace , however while creating model i was getting jjava.lang.NullPointerException.
So also when I tried to import this project for the second time into my workspace , while importing it said .project file missing.
Can anyone suggest the possible solutions to resolve the issues I am facing.

Removing the .metadata folder and restarting NWDS fixed my NWDS as well.
I think you have to downloaded TutWD_FlightList_Init this application in SDN right. May be that application having some problem you can create application in own way. I think you are new to webdynpro JAVA right. Encoding fails with QT DV PAL files

hi all,
for some reason, in DVDSP4 I cannot get this QT DV PAL file to convert. the file is coming from FCEHD.
I am converting on 2 pass vbr and the bit rate is 5.0 with max at 7.0.
have tried both the settings encode on build and background encoding with no success. ( the error I get is error -2 and error - 12345, which no one seems to answer questions about)
and the problem is the video file. the audio file encoded fine.
I tried to encode a test video of 22 seconds using the same settings, from the same original FCEHD project,from the same locaction, into the same project and had no problems. but when I try to do the real thing ( a movie file that is 1 hour 16 minutes long) it fails to encode.
I've re-converted the file from FCEHD three times, and attempted to encode three times as well ( do the math for how long I've been sittting in front of the computer trying to do this)
anyone got any ideas?

thanks for the thoughts...yes I exported the files 3 different times from FCEHD as DV PAL files. none of them worked. also tried from the internal hard drive and an external drive.
compressor bit me in the *ss last time I tried to use it. went to my favorite mac store and we came to the conculsion that this was a panther/tiger issue with compressor. I promptly uninstalled it.
at that time, I burned a dvd using the same process I am doing now, and the file was of the same size. so I don't know what's up this time.
I thought I'd hear some other opinoins.

Converting PAL to NTSC for a dvd

I have a quicktime PAL movie that I want to burn to a dvd to send to the US as NTSC.
It's just a short movie using 720 x 576 size and 25 fps.
When I set up iDVD it warns me just before burning that I am trying to burn an NTSC dvd using a PAL format media and I don't know if this will result in a poor quality or an unplayable movie.
Can anyone please advice how to change the PAL movie to NTSC in Compressor so that I can make a good quality version of the PAL file into an NTSC file?

Just going from iMovie (PAL) to iDVD (NTSC) does work BUT VERY BAD RESULT
I do.
• In iMovie Export out as QuickTime full Quality QT.mov file
• Use JES_Deinterlacer - Google it - It's FREE
• Here I open the QT.mov and let it convert to NTSC - VERY GOOD - and save with a new name
• Open iDVD and make a NTSC project
• Now import the converted movie
• Burn
To make sure that it plays well in US I also do.
• Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on internal boot hard disk - Others not interesting
• I use Verbatim
• I use DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)
• I set in iDVD pref/Advance/burn speed down to x1
This has worked for me and been confirmed from sunny Calif.

Making a PAL version of an NTSC DVD

Hello all.
I have recently finish production on a short film, made a DVD with extras for the crew, and now need to send one to Australia (PAL DVD). What is the best way to transform my NTSC DVD project to PAL. Do I need extra software to do this, or simply use the PAL settings on my NTSC video and let compressor do the work? Could I change my DVD SP project file to PAL and let DVD SP work it's magic?

And something to take in account is that "ussually" DVD players & TVs in PAL countries can play NTSC DVDs (what doesn't happen in NTSC countries where most of the equipmnets cannot read/play PAL movies).
You could check that with your contact/customer in Australia.

Real World Experience - TIPS - Pal to NTSC and Authoring DVDS on both

I have just completed a DVD project.
It was shot and edited in Pal and then authored to both Pal and NTSC DVDS ( Pal for Europe - NTSC for Japan and USA)
Standards Conversion:
I used both compressor and graham Nattress' excellent G (for Graham?) Standards converter.
Compressor was a fast work around for a quick pal to ntsc conversion at ok quality. Since my footage is very demanding (lots of handheld heli shots, water housing footage)i imagine it was giving the converters a real work out).
The Nattress G converter was much slower but the results were as close to perfection as i would imagine a software solution can get. Obviously the extra render time was working extra hard to get the conversion looking good.
For anyone going down this path - For your master you just have to use the natress converter- thanks Graham - best $100 i have spent this year.
MPG2 encoding
i did this using compressor and it worked well.
Here is the rub - i THOUGHT compressor was not doing my MPG 2 conversion at acceptable quality - it was actually the lack of quality out of compressors fast and easy solution for pal - ntsc that was giving me banding on moving objects and color issues.
I suspect this may be where some people think they are coming unstuck with compressor. (go back and check you ntsc conversion relative to your original pal quality)
I hope this saves anyone else in my situation some time.
In summary - when working in PAL (ie you are shooting and editing in Europe or Australia)Your work flow should be - shoot and edit in Pal ,convert with Natress, encode with compressor (compressor 2.1 - i use 7.7 mbs max, 6.0 mbs av - 2 pass variable - use ac3 for audio) - which has actually been working well for me (despite various threads about issues with compressor)

Hi Rory.
It's not possible in Encore or Premiere.
The conversion process is a complex one & consists of changing the actual resolution from 720x576 to 720x480, which gives a very different shaped pixel as well.
Then it also changes the frame rate of the footage from 25 to 29.97.
The easiest way to do this with Adobe tools is to use Atter Effects, making sure that the AE render is locked to the duration of the composition - this is critical, or you will end up with footage at the wrong speed. All menus will need to be rebuilt.
Sorry I cannot give you better news.
As a general rule of thumb, if in doiubt - create & author in NTSC as there are almost no PAL setups that cannot output either pure NTSC or PAL-60, yet there are very few that can go the other way.....

NTSC - PAL files too large

I'm trying to make a PAL version of my NTSC DVD. I'm taking my raw QTs & converting them through JES Deinterlacer to PAL, but it's increasing the size from 3GB to 10GB per show. Then, I'm trying to MPEG2 them in Compressor & it's locking up. Any ideas on going straight from the NTSC QTs to PAL MPEG2s. I tried using Compressor, but didn't like the look of the finished MPEGs...lots of jaggies and they didn't play smooth.

Not sure what is going on there, but it sounds strange that there is such an increase in size, the PAL file should not be that large I woulld guess
Also, FWIW you can see if bitVice (www.innobits.se) conversion works for you in converting to PAL. They have a demo download (there may be others that may work)
How are you monitoring the playback of the conversions? On your computer or dedicated player/monitor? What settings are you using? Have you tried other things to convert such as some of the plugins for FCP? You will, because the credited funds are on your iTunes account, not the application. When you reinstall iTunes just configure it with your old iTunes account and your credits will be there waiting for you.

I did have the setting Effective date, what cause the problem?

You could also run Application Engine PSXPCLEAN to clean orphan rows.
Are you running the report online or through PeopleCode?
In last case make sure the effdt is set correct in PeopleCode.
Also have a look if your server time settings are correct.

Try rebuilding your iTunes Library:
(This will cause all devices to see your library as a "new" library)
1. Open iTunes.
2. File>LIbrary>Organize Library: Consolidate Files.
-This process may take some time.
3. Quit iTunes.
4. Browse to your iTunes Folder.
5. Drag the files to the desktop, but leave the folders in place (folders will be iTunes Media, Album Artwork, Previous iTunes Libraries)
6. Open iTunes.
7. File>Library>Import Playlist.
8. Direct iTunes to import the "iTunes Library.xml" that is sitting on your desktop.
9. Once the process is complete attempt to resync your iPod.

Music files missing/hidden in folder on network hdd

Hi all,
I have setup my home net work with a iMac (mountain Lion) backed up by a TimeCapsule and at the back of the TimeCapsule I have a 2TB networked external HDD. My iTunes library is located on this HDD, I take care not to start up iTunes before this networked external HDD has propoerly mounted to avoid any conflicts with links to my itunes library files and folders.
The other day I noticed a few missing files (the dreaded exclamation mark !), not too bad a figured, I located a few manually but reached some that does my head in...... Out of the whole album there are two files "missing", the other ones play as they should. When I try and locate the missing files the folder comes up empty.....
I have even checked the songs that do play in the same album....they dont show up either, even though they still play in iTunes (yes, they are all located at the same location). The album was originally ripped from a CD and I don't use iTunes Match or Genius.
I have tried to find the files by:
1."open in finder" - files missing / whole folder empty
2."through finder and located the drive and folder" - files missing / folder empty
3."copy file location from "get info" and paste into "go to folder" - the file temporarily appears in the finder window but dissapears shortly after / folder yet again empty.
4. I check the folder "get info" from my finder and it says "zero bytes"
5. I can't use Search because its on an external HDD and there fore not indexed
6.I have tried to copy the folder to the desktop but still shows empty....
7. I have tried to "organise" my library, still no change.
What the..xxx..is happening..?
From what I can gather, the files are actually there but not visible through the finder window (even though the folder appears to be 0 bytes).
The problem being that I can't locate my missing files because I cant see them any more......
Am I missing something (like show hidden folder on a Mac) or has it got to do with anything else...? How can I fix it..? I have found posts that relate to windows users forced their W7 to show hidden folders but nothing yet on Mac.....

I was lucky to be able to use a PC, that after trying numerous times actually read the external hdd, I quickly copied all files over to a backup hdd and recovered all files. After that I ended up in contact with Western Digital about the incident and they recommended to completely erase (7-pass erase) of the hdd, which ended up taking over 5 days to do. They gave me no reason as to "Why" it would have happened but if I erase and reformatted of the hdd and the problem reoccurred they recommended to get the unit replaced.
I was lucky to recover all my files.....keep trying on different computers if you can, and copy what you can get hold of. The 7-pass erase will delete pretty much every trace of information on the hdd with no chance of recovery.
So far since the incident its been running ok but I not longer trust the hdd to be stable. Not a simple nor quick process / solution I'm afraid.

Once you have recovered your files (or as many as you can get hold of) and ready to erase the hdd:
(THIS WILL ERASE ALL YOUR DATA, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP BEFORE PROCEEDING)
Connect the drive directly to the Mac, open Disk Utility.
Select the drive and click on the "Erase" tab Select the "7-times zeros" to completely erase the drive.
Once the erase have completed format the drive to your selection.

File process - some files missing in processing

Found the issue:
At first glance my itunes music folder looks normal, but after some careful reading of the location data...it turns out all of my music is also stored in a subfolder "MUSIC" in with all the artist names. I found this after discussing with a genius today while having my battery replaced. Together we found the issue.
How? iTunes at some point started making a MUSIC and MOVIES and maybe some other folders in the iTunes folder. When I redid my library some time ago, it must have changed the directory and copied all my music to the user/music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Music folder. This would also explain why I found that sometimes my library took up more data than I had expected. iTunes would say 45 GB but the folder would say 90GB.
