PAL image size

OK I have managed to converted NTSC anamorphic 16:9 video to PAL. When I export through Compressor with the 16:9 setting it comes out the correct PAL image size, but in DVD Studio Pro, even with all the right settings (16:9, PAL etc) it is still a little squished.
Do I need to change the image size? 1024x576 looks fine, but that is square pixels...will it look good on a PAL monitor?

Can you detail what image size you're getting out of Compressor? When you open the .m2v file in QuickTime player, it's 720x404, correct?
You say things are a little squished in DVDSP. Mind elaborating on that please? That is, squished vertically (objects look shorter and fatter than they should) or horizontally (objects are taller and thinner than they should be)?

  • PAL background image size requirement

I'm trying to help Shingy who asked a question about a background image problem (see the message thread at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=475370&tstart=0).
Background images for NTSC projects (for at least the themes I've checked) seem to workout at the 'standard' image sizes: 720x540 pixel for standard and 854x480 pixels for widescreen.
With PAL, using the PAL 'standard' image sizes: 768x576 pixel for standard and 1024x576 pixels for widescreen - results in images far larger than the background.
    Any suggestions to help Shingy?

    Fred,

  • Premiere Pro CS4: Output Issue - codec and image size

I am having an issue when outputing a video file from Prem Pro to Media Encoder.  The dimensions of the input video are the usual 720x576.  The output I need is 390x390 to match my project.  By choosing the Sorenson 3 video codec I am able to adjust the size from 720x576 to 390x390.  However, it also applies black bars to the top and bottom of the image.  I don't want this.  If I choose the DV PAL video codec the black bars are removed in the output but I do not have control over the image size.
In Prem Pro 1.5 the media encoder allowed for this and I was able to create a cropped video image (390x390) without black bars.  By selecting the zoom option the image was fitted into the window size.  There is no zoom option in CS4 in Media Encoder.  This is very frustrating!
    Any help would be appreciated...
    Thanks, Neil

This is odd indeed, and I cannot recall having read of such. The tips were just the general things that one normally checks out, when there are audio issues, so nothing specific to this behavior.
Now, as a test, you might want to try ASIO4ALL, linked in the article above. Usually, it will get audio, where the Realtek, or Creative driver will not. Again, this is as a test, just to see if by-passing the Realtek driver will help. Do not forget to set the Audio Hardware ASIO to ASIO4ALL in Input and Output. Then test. If it has zero affect, then just uninstall it, and change the setting back.
Good luck, and wish I had more to help,
    Hunt
PS - other than mechanical/electrical things like the audio chip heating up and a connection failing, I just cannot think of something that would cause this behavior. Maybe download and run SpeedFan, a great little free utility, and monitor the temps for all components with sensors.

  • Menu background image size

Hi...if I follow this link http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/6.0/en/17.html and the instructions for preparing menu background images. My images still get cropped. Does anyone know the real sizes that will fit perfectly?
    From the Apple link:
"If you want your images to fit the DVD window exactly, use an image-editing application to crop and resize the images to the following dimensions:
720 x 540 pixels for standard video in NTSC format
854 x 480 pixels for widescreen in NTSC format
768 x 576 pixels for standard video in PAL format
1024 x 576 pixels for widescreen in PAL format"
    Many thanks in advance

    Shingy,
Today there is an update to iDVD (as well as other iApps) that you should make.
After doing the update this is what I found:
I'm not sure if the things I'm seeing are a result of the update, but after updating I have further defined the problem.
The problem now seems to be in figuring out the proper background size when using a widescreen theme converted to 4:3
Widescreen as widescreen and 4:3 as 4:3 work as expected in PAL.
So, if you stick with the originally discussed image sizes for PAL you will be OK AS LONG AS you don't try to use a widescreen theme as a 4:3 theme. (I didn't try using a 4:3 theme as widescreen.)

  • Image size adjust on DVD

I am putting my pictures onto DVD.  When I play the DVD some, not all, of my pictures are shorten and stretched, which makes them hard to see.  I have been told that it is a resizing issue, but I can't seem to figure out how to change the image size.  Is that possible and can anyone help?  Thanks

Image --> Image Size. For DVD (Video) all images must be 480x720 pixels (NTSC) with a pixel aspect ratio of 0.9 (4:3) or 1.2 (16:9). For PAL this would be 576x720, 1.667 or 1.422 PAR. That's assuming you mean true slide shows. If you are merely using your DVD player's ability to display JPEGs from a data folder, then a look in the device's manual would hold the truth. The player would do all scaling "life" then and limits in file size and resolution may apply.

  • New Image Size and Resolution in CC

    Hi there.
Ok, maybe i'm missing something, but how do i reduce the ppi's of a given image in the Photoshop CC? Changing it in the image size, in the Resolution field, it acomplish nothing. It logs an entry in the History panel, but nothing changes in the picture. Did Adobe changed how this works, or it's just a bug?
    Thank you.

Try setting to real-world measurement, like inches or cm.
Hi Charles, i think that change in cm/mm/in it's the only way to change the image ppi (in my case save/resample it to 108ppi). Can you confirm that this is correct?
Anyway when i go to image size (new panel of CC) the w/h are:
    1) grey and always set in pixel with resample flagged.
    2) always set in inches with resample NON-flagged (also if my ruler unit is in Pixel).
(and actually that is not new behavior. CS6 behaved same way when width and height were set to percent)
In CS6 and CC i never seen w/h in percent  - where is my error?
    Many thanks!

  • Save Image size setting in Save for Web

I'm using Save for Web (CS3) and scaling the file to different sizes with "scale image". I'm wanting to use the same scale settings for many images but when I save the pre-set the image size settings don't get saved. I'm wanting to use it as part of an action but the setting wont stick. Any suggestions? Alternative work flows?

That's never been saved as part of the S4W presets. Bloody annoying.

  • How do I set the image size in PS touch to print to my Epson printer w ithout losing any of the picture. PS Touch appears to be showing pixels and not inches, how can I covert it toshow inches?

I am using PS Touch from my tablet . I am importinga photo from an SD card . When all editing is completed I then send it wireless from the tablet  via Epson I print to the printer. It all works great except that part of the photo at each end is cut off and does not print. I am printing on 8.5 x11 paper.
How do I convert the image size in PSTouch frm pixels to inches?

Epson's iPrint has always been an oddball. It will always "zoom in" on an image to print even if you have the proper dimensions and resolution set for actual print size. I think other users have reported this, at least on Android.
You can't have PS Touch show inches instead of pixels at this time but you can use an online website to find out what you need to fit within a particular resolution. (Google "pixels to inches calculator".)

  • Since downloading the 2013 Keynote upgrade, the slide image size on handouts with 3 slides per page option is very small. Is there a way to make the slide size larger while still keeping 3 slides per page   lines?

With the new Keynote upgrade (version 6.1), the slide image size on handouts is very small, which makes it difficult to read slide content when compiling lecture notes for students. Is there a way to make the slide size larger while still keeping to a format of 3 slides per page with lines?

A number of posts have reported the same issue, two workarounds:
    1
check the paper handling options or equivalent in your print dialogue box and set to scale to fit

in the Keynote option, in the dropdown menu in the Print section, select Individual Slides
then choose Layout, and set the number of pages, when printed you will have multiple pages on a single sheet.

  • How can you find out an individual image size from multiple images on a canvas

This is probably a really really simple question but I can't for the life of me find how I can find out an individual image size from multiple images on a canvas. eg I have 3 photos i want to arrange 1 large and the other two next to it half the size. How can I edit individual image size on the canvas as when I select the image on a sperate layer I want to resize it just resizes the entire canvas and not the individual image
    Thanks

I want to know they exact dimensions though. You can get them by dragging to the 0,0 corner and then reading off of the ruler scale on the sides but its fiddily as you have to zoom right in and work it out. I know in photoshop there is a ruler but is there any other way in Elements?

  • How to set image size in a table view

    Hi,
I've just built a small VC application showing some process chain logs in a table view. For the different status types Error, Warning and Success I show the well-known traffic light icons. But up to now I haven't found out how to set the image size in a table view (height & width field is greyed out for the table). Any ideas? Or is it just not possible?
    Thanks for your help,
    Heiko

    Hello Heiko,
I don't know, if it is possible, but I would say,
it's not implemented yet. Maybe you can change the picture size and use then the pictures, that might be a workaround, if you can't change the height and width in VC.
    Best Regards,

  • I'm trying to get the image to print correct size.  i've tried center image, fit to media image,  and they all come out the same size...smaller than the size in "image size".  is this an Epson problem or Photoshop problem.  Thanks!

I just got a new printer...Epson R3000...but have had this problem before.  It's probably a simple fix, but I can't figure it out.  I'm asking for printing on 8.5 x 11 and the image comes out 6.5 x 9.5 every time.  Help please!  And thanks!

The Epson site stated that the R3000 printer can print borderless however the quality will suffer in the expanded print area. Borderless is not supported on some heavy paper.  To me the means your better off limiting you images size to the standard print area. There will be magins about 1/8" on the four  sides so the print area on 8.5"x11" paper is 8.26" x 10.76"....
Take note of the print size set by the epson driver it may change depending on the paper type set. Note my first epson 4800 setup where I set 8.5" x 11" sheet paper from tray into the printer setting the driver set a smaller size for the paper which was reflected into the Photoshop Print preview. It shows paper is 8.499" x 10.999 with a small unprintable area across the top....

Since the quality of any particular brand or type of paper may be changed by the manufacturer at any time, Epson cannot guarantee the quality of any non-Epson brand or type of paper. Always test a sample of paper stock before purchasing large quantities or printing large jobs.

  • Why jpeg file exported from Aperture with 300 dpi's it opens with 72 dpi's on PS ( image size)? I've tried several combinations and all give different results. And I am confused on what is the best workflow for me.

    Ok.
    My workflow is
RAW > Aperture Library > export jpeg high resolution 300 dpi's > one file on PS > edit > Save us jpeg. The I realised that files from PS were being save in a smaller size from the ones exported form Aperture. That is when I went o see <image size> on PS and files were with 72.
Since ten I've trying different things
    1. Aperture > export as PSD > open on PS > edit > Save us jpeg = small file (around 15 MB)
    2. Aperture > export as jpeg high resolution 300 dpi's > open on PS > CHANGE dpi's to 300 on <image size> edit > Save us jpeg = big file (Huge, actually)
What am I doing wrong? Would someone give me guidance and tell me what is the best workflow, considering I edit photos to deliver to my clients and I shall give them 300 dpi's.
    Thank you

  • Problems with image sizes

There seems to be lots of confusion about image sizes and Apple iBookstore Support  et al simply state that images should not be greater than 2 megapixels.
IBook Author Help > Photos and other images,  states:-
Important:  When you export your book for distribution outside the iBookstore, images are automatically scaled to a width of 2048 pixels, which is optimized for iPad with Retina display. Readers can view these images on other iPad models, but the viewing experience might be slower. You can improve the viewing experience on iPad models without Retina display by using images no wider than 1024 pixels.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5117 states:-
    Publishing to the iBookstore:
If most of your readers will be using the original iPad, scale down images in Interactive Image widgets to a width of 2048 pixels and all other images to a width of 1024 pixels.
Previewing on iPad, or exporting for distribution outside the iBookstore:
You can improve the viewing experience on iPad models without Retina display by scaling down images in Interactive Image widgets to a width of 2048 pixels and all other images to a width of 1024 pixels.iBA help deals with exporting  books OUTSIDE the store and simply advises that you can  help none Retina viewers by having a smaller image.  No help at all really - but suggests that the use of images 2048 is OK. that would indicate 2048 x 1536 or 1496. No mention of what resolution should be used.
    iBookstore support basically reapeat this.
So  to ease life in getting books accepted,  should we all use 1024 x 768 @72ppi for iPad & iPad 2 and now iPad mini. ????
and use 2048 x 1536 @ ??   for The New iPad Retina display!
Both fail to mention HOW the books author would know which iPad a buyer/viewer will be using.  Also if "we" only use 1024 x 768, those with Retina do not get an "enhanced viewing experience".
For a company that deals entirely with  devices that use logical programming - there seems very little logic  applied when it comes to dealing with a section of their business which by issueing iBA Free and wacking 30% of the top, must be adding to the $billions already stacked away in a corner somewhere.
iBA makes eBooks for use/display on iPads only. For months now since iBA  became available, one of the  most common requests on this forum is help with....image sizes.
It seems reasonable  now when Retina is in use and eventually the iPad and iPad 2 will fade away - ditto the new none retina mini and ALL Apple devices and  computers will be retina. So why not plan now!  Surely images in shoudl be geared to deal with Retina displays. IF  Apple would  take that line maybe  "Support" would have less work dealing with requests for help about images IF Apple accept that the next Stephen King may not have a clue how to deal with adjusting images sizes and simply state the required dimentions.
I make photo books and use 2048 x 1496 @150ppi - so far ten free books have gone into the store.
The suggestion about  images  for retina display as "standard" as been  sent as feedback.

For all those who are still confused by Apples image restrictions / requirements...
In the new Template chooser after the recent updates is "Antique". This template has a Chapter background image ( the olde world print of sailing ships in blue litho print style ). This print when opened in PS is 2771 x 1506 @72ppi. 2771x1506=4,173,126 pixels. This implies  Apple supply a book which does not comply with its own requirements!
Higher  image resolution applied to printed photo inmages, make the image sharper. If for example you wanted to print a wall poster 45inches  wide, the  image needs needs a higher resolution to cater for the size, BUT the same image used for a 45" poster will print 4.5" wide print on your own printer!
iBA full page is deemed to be 1024 x 748. resolution from Apple is 72ppi. An image with those specifications will be OK in iPad & iPad 2 - but not so sharp on a Retina display especially if zoomed larger on screen
Now it seems 2048 x 1496 - double the original image size is suggested for Retina.
You  can change an image in PS i.e. 1024 x 748 and change resolution to 144. PS will double the pixel size as you change the resolution. OK, just change pixel sizes back to 1024 x 748 and reolution is now 144.
That indicates a sharper image which will be suitable for retina display and in fact all current iPad models.
    Today my 11th photo book was notified as available  in the iBook Store, all my images were pre-formatted at 2048 x 1496 @ 150ppi.   ( 2048 x 1496 = 3.063,808 pixels!)
During delivery there were no issues flagged and after delivery no tickets.
So I suggest all those folk pondering images sizes follow my example, which  is now proved to be accepatble!
One thing puzzles me though, I dont use all images as full page and  they can  be masked down to - say - 250 x 200.  Should  just  make an image to fit the size I  want to display ??
