Pal to NTSC for the USA

Do I have a Pal video on Dvd change into NTSC VIDEO for DVD to be presented in the US or is it done by the DVD itself?
thanks for help on this one .
cheers WOlfgang

Oh dear! . . . All this conflicting advice!
Wolfgang, I can't agree with piero - I used JES Deinterlacer, and the quality's not good - especially if you have any action scenes.
I’ve found the best overall PAL to NTSC Standards Conversion comes from Hanumang’s Compressor method:
First, change your Easy Setup to DV PAL, then open a new sequence. This will make certain your Timeline is correct for PAL.
Before you Capture, be sure your Capture Settings (in Log and Capture) are:
Device Control: FireWire PAL
Capture/Input: DV PAL 48 kHz
"Load your DV PAL movie into Compressor 2, then choose
Advanced Format Conversions > DV NTSC from the settings.
Then, under the Frame Controls tab, alter your settings to:
Frame Controls: Custom
Resize Filter: Better (Linear Filter)
Output Fields: Bottom First
Deinterlace: Better Motion Adaptive
Adaptive Details: checked
Rate Conversion: Better (Motion Compensated)"
Results are stunning and once set up, it’s dead simple to use again because the settings are saved in Compressor.
The only downside is that it’s slower to process than other methods – but I find the results are better and I can use the Mac for other work whilst compressor’s working in the background.
A quicker (but I find, more fiddly) method is Graeme Nattress’ Standards Conversion:
http://www.nattress.com.
This method gives outstanding results too.

  • Nattress pal to ntsc degrading the image

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to use Nattress's Pal to NTSC converter & the clip got more blurry & degrading than the original PAL source. Has anyone has this same problem?
    My setting:
put the source field order as UPPER & destination as LOWER
De-interlace option as NORMAL. (also tried SMART too)
Gconverter also add in the fields SHIFT direction, I chose: +1 for the first attempt, -1 for 2nd, & non for the 3rd, but still get the blurriness look (kind like degrading the image)
Is it because of the FIELD order, or De-interlace OPTION?
or should I try PROGESSIVE OUPUT option too?
I left the pulldown offset as 0
    thanx
    JP

Remove the Apple shift fields filter - let the plugin handle all the field stuff.
PAL to NTSC shouldn't be blurry - are you viewing out of the NTSC monitor, not relying on the FCP preview? NTSC to PAL can be a touch soft, and with that I normally drop the motion blur to around 15% to get it looking better.
For upper to lower field conversion, you should be using 2.5.2 for best results, which we'll get for you via email.

  • Daylight Savings Time for the USA

I am trying to add a new entry for the new daylight savings time change implemented in the United States in a 4.6C system.  I am trying to make the change per SAP note 919538.
The problem is when I go into transaction STZBC, and try to add a new entry for the USA, after I input what was stated in the SAP note and try to save the new entry, I receive an error "Choose the key from the allowed name space".
How have others implemented this change?  I am unsure of modifying the entry that is there already for the USA since the sap note says to add a new entry.
    Regards,
    Doug Slupski

    Hi Doug
Isn't this message informational only?? It does not show as an Error. If you hit Enter a couple of times, it should go thru...
I am not sure if it will wipe out the previous entry under the Key "USA"from the table.
Make a note of the previous values before u hit enter.  After you have made the change, check if it overwrote that value.
If not, then you should be fine..If yes, chnage the value under USA to he original values and open up an OSS message.
    Hope that helps..
    Thanks

  • Can someone provide a number or email for The USA or The UK support team please?!

Can someone provide a number or email for The USA or The UK support team please?!

I had started my service in February of 2013. February of 2014, I was told that I would be getting my deposit back around May 2014. I was good with that, I added 2 more lines to my plan for that ONE reason, that I was getting it back or credited to my account. Around April 27-28th, not sure of exact date, I spoke to someone in financial services department and I was told that my deposit should be applied around May 7,2014. She then set up a payment arrangement for May 7, for my bill. On May 9, I called and spoke to someone else in financial services, where I was told my deposit got pushed back to August 2014 because of a returned check, which is ACTUALLY A CANCELLED PAYMENT MADE BY ME, because the amount that was scheduled was smaller than the actual amount. The next 2 days I made payments for the GREATER amount. I requested to speak to someone in the treasury department, and was told there is NOT a direct line to them, they can only be contacted by email, which I could NEVER find an email for them or for the corporate office to speak to someone higher up. I called AGAIN this morning to get a number or email and I was given the number to ANOTHER CALL CENTER, and was NOT able to get anything resolved!! I am fed up, and DONE WITH VERIZON WIRELESS. I HAVE ALREADY PLACED AN ORDER WITH ANOTHER CARRIER, AND I AM TERMINATING MY CONTRACT WITH VERIZON. I CAN'T EVEN SPEAK TO SOMEONE IN THE CORPORATE OFFICE, WHICH I BELIEVE IS HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!  #NOMOREVERIZONWIRELESSPROBLEMS#

  • How to convert HD DVD to SD in PAL and NTSC - is the MXO2 the magic bullet?

I edited a 1 hour-long video of my college class reunion in FCP Studio 2, exported via Compressor and finally made it into a DVD with menus via DVDSP. Very neat so far, but there's a problem - the DVD is in HD, but I need to convert it to SD PAL to distribute to my old pals in the UK and SD NTSC for those who made it to the USA.
I'd like to do that without re-doing all the fancy menu-work in DVDSP, but how? Can anyone advise me, will the new Matrox MXO2 convert an input HD PAL signal to an SD PAL / or SD NTSC output which can be re-acquired into DVDSP and burned to disk?
Advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

Jerry, I appreciate your help with this. I exported the film from FCPS2 via Compressor as a PAL SD .mov, located the correct HD video asset in the DVDSP Build folder and replaced it with the new SD version, renamed to look like the HD asset.
On re-opening the project, DVDSP registers the fact that the video asset has changed (mainly affects menu items), but despite ensuring Preferences is set for SD, there seems no way of changing the format of its output from HD to SD.
Trying to hide the HD video asset in a sub-folder doesn't work - DVDSP re-names the new SD video as Filename (Video) 1.
Build command creates an HVDVD_TS folder containing the usual HD-type files. Creating a template in the hope of using the menu structure in a new SD project results in all the HD video assets coming with it.
I'm sure I'm being stupid, as usual, but can you point me in a better direction?
    Thanks

  • PAL or NTSC for international distribution?

Hi everybody, we have a 5 hrs film shot and edited in Premiere Pro CS6 in HD pal, 50fps, 16:9  intended for international distribution on 2 double layer DVDs. How should we best author it to guarantee worldwide compatibility and best possible quality? PAL or NTSC? There is no budget to press both, PAL and NTSC DVDs. Thanks for your help!!!

    NTSC every time.
All PAL players these days will happily output NTSC content either as true NTSC (by running an on-the-fly standards conversion in the video decoder chips) or else as PAL-60.
Very few NTSC players will output PAL in any form.
Your biggest problem will be standards converting your 50i footage into 29.97.
    EDIT.
Here's a great tip for you.
Do not ever shoot at 25 fps in any shape, way or form if you need international release. Use 24p instead - and when the time comes to burn a DVD all you need to do is scale it down & render to DV 24p widescreen from Adobe Media Encoder. All will be fine, and you can use fully progressive images all the way through.
    Pros:
24p footage is universal, 25p is not spec compliant, must be interlaced & will only work in PAL regions.
24p will play - in an upscaling player (such as a modern Universal, or a good BluRay player) at the encoded rate (Hollywood have been pulling this trick for years now) and in a non-upscaling player it will automatically pull to 29.97 with no intervention needed from the user.
    Cons.
None that immediately come to mind - although of course 24p footage has it's own issues but these are outweighed by not having to standards convert.
    Why this is needed.
Because although most US discs will play in PAL players, either as pure NTSC or PAL-60, the reverse is not true and even when you can find a US player that will handle a 25i stream, you will run into difficulties with the display because the mains is at the wrong frequency (60Hz instead of 50Hz) and the image will be garbled, black & white or missing altogether. A study by Sony showed that perhaps 1/20 players can output PAL frame rates properly in NTSC regions.

  • PAL or NTSC for France?

I have a project I need to burn for use in France. Should this be a PAL or NTSC disc?

Though ex-U.S. the players are more often able to play NTSC and PAL discs (as oppossed to U.S.) making a PAL disc would probably be the better option. If it is a one off burn you can ask the person if they can play NTSC of course....

  • How to make a NTSC DVD for the USA

I want to put some movies on a DVD for some relatives to play on their DVD player in USA which uses NTSC I believe.
How do I convert my PAL footage to play on their machine in iDVD6?

    Hi Alexander
Two ways. One bad and one very good.
    • Burn a NTSC-project in iDVD - BAD AND LOSY QUALITY
    • Open Your movie in JES_Deinterlacer - Google it - it's free and let it convert Your PAL (25fps) project
to NTSC (29.97fps) then start a new iDVD NTSC-project and drop this new converted movie into
    this.
This should be enough - BUT You can do more.
    • Now Save as a DiskImage to eg Desktop
    • Burn this by Apple Disk Util tool or Toast™ - AT AN AS SLOW speed as possible eg x1, x2 or x4
    • Burn it on high quality media: I use Verbatim DVDs
    • Use DVD-R (not +R or +/-RW)
Doing the last steps gives a DVD that has less writing errors = Can be played on more types of player
eg. stand alone DVD-player or PCs
Yours - HAVE TESTED THIS and got a very good result - confirmed from US: Bengt W

  • Converting PAL to NTSC for a dvd

I have a quicktime PAL movie that I want to burn to a dvd to send to the US as NTSC.
    It's just a short movie using 720 x 576 size and 25 fps.
When I set up iDVD it warns me just before burning that I am trying to burn an NTSC dvd using a PAL format media and I don't know if this will result in a poor quality or an unplayable movie.
Can anyone please advice how to change the PAL movie to NTSC in Compressor so that I can make a good quality version of the PAL file into an NTSC file?
Thanks a lot for any advice.

    Hi
Just going from iMovie (PAL) to iDVD (NTSC) does work BUT VERY BAD RESULT
    I do.
    • In iMovie Export out as QuickTime full Quality QT.mov file
    • Use JES_Deinterlacer - Google it - It's FREE
    • Here I open the QT.mov and let it convert to NTSC - VERY GOOD - and save with a new name
    • Open iDVD and make a NTSC project
    • Now import the converted movie
    • Burn
To make sure that it plays well in US I also do.
    • Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on internal boot hard disk - Others not interesting
    • I use Verbatim
    • I use DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)
    • I set in iDVD pref/Advance/burn speed down to x1
This has worked for me and been confirmed from sunny Calif.

  • PAL to NTSC for DVD

I have got a PAL Final Cut Pro sequence that needs to be made into an NTSC DVD. What's the best way of doing this?
Can I just export my project as an NTSC self-contained movie and then encode it to mpeg2 and put into DSP as I normally would with a PAL project?

You need to converter the PAL sequence to NTSC before create the NTSC DVD. There are several ways to do the standards conversion.
    1) Compression 2 has conversion in it now - just make sure you use the otipical flow setting to get the best result. Down side is it is VERY slow!!
    2) Graeme Natress has a plugin for final cut - www.natress.com
    3) We use the standard alone DVfilm application, Atlantis - with this you export your sequence as a self contained movie, and then open it in Atlantis and let it do the work. www.dvfilm.com .
We choose Atlantis over Natresses standard conversion because it worked a little bit better for us with slow-mo of fast action sequences, but we haven't used the latest versions.
With Atlantis we get a conversion time ratio of 1:3 eg. 1 minute of footage takes 3 minutes to convert. Thats on a Dual 2.5Gb G5 with 2Gb of RAM.
Of course once you;ve run the standards conversion you get out a NTSC-DV sequence and then you need to encode this to mpeg2.
    Hope this helps.

  • Converting PAL to NTSC for 16:9 DVD

    Hi guys,
Im trying to turn my HDV1080i PAL project into an NTSC DVD that will play on a TOSHIBA 19lv505 tv with a screen that's 16x10 inches - and retain it's 16:9 ratio.
I compressed my project in compressor then dragged it into DVD Studio Pro. 4 The dolby audio.dc3 file was recognised but the .m2v file was rejected, was it was a PAL format. It would only be accenpted if the the Video Standard settings were switched from NTSC to PAL - but ultimately im trying to make an NTSC DVD.
Do i convert my project by opening it in a new project with different sequence settings or copy it into a new sequence within the same project, but with new sequence settings? There's only a NTSC 4:3 option, not a 16:9 option.
    Current sequence settings are:
    HD (1440 x 1080) (16:9)
    pixel: HD 1440x1080
    Field Dominance: Upper (odd)
    Compressor (HDV 1080i50)
    Audio: 48Khz
    Any thoughts?
    Thank you.

so after an hour hunting around on the internet it seems two common options are Nattress or Advanced Format Conversion in Compressor.
i appreciate there is probably much already said on this issue, but any thoughts as to which avenue is the better use of time and money?
    thanks.
