PAL Videos with NTSC camera

I have problems capturing PAL video played with a Sony DCR-HC40 NTSC camera. Though I can follow the movie at the camera level, nothing in captured in the Premiere Pro 1.5 program. What is the correct setting in Premiere?

I am with Steve, on not knowing how one might be able to do what you want, other than converting from NTSC to PAL. However, with PrPro 1.5, I would post to the PrPro CS4 and Earlier Forum, as many folk there do both PAL and NTSC work, and might have some nifty tips for you.

I try to capture (download) PAL videos from a Sony DCR-HC40 NTSC camera using Premiere Pro 1.5. I can see the movie (on the camera) but none is captured in Premiere. I did it before and it worked, but I forgot the appropriate setting within the Premiere program.

The latter is the problem. As I hit the capture button, the tape in the camera rolls, I can see (and hear) the PAL movie in the view finder and on the LCD screen of the camera, but the capture window stays black (though the frame counter works) and nothing is captured. (This is true whether I use an NTSC or PAL project set-up in Premiere). Again, I know there is a solution. I have done it before but forgot the necessary set-up steps in Premiere.

Yeah, of course you can. All you do is, open PhotoBooth, record your video and then, once you have stopped the video recording just drag the movie out of the bottom of PhotoBooth onto the desktop. It is in .mov format so you can then add it to iMovie for further editing or just upload it to youTube as it is.

IDVD-change PAL video to NTSC video format on burning

Hi.
I have families overseas and would like to send them family movie video. But the problem is they have NTSC format or signal system and we have PAL here in Australia. Is it possible for a video made by PAL video camera burn as NTSC to dvd using iDVD?
I have just bought my new Mac Mini Intel Core 2 Duo Leopard. I don't know anything about iDVD and I still have to use and try it.

Yes, BUT .......
PAL and NYSC video have different frame rates and image sizes. Quicktime, as used by iDVD can make the conversion, but the results probably won't be great quality.
Make sure you have iDVD's preferences set to NTSC BEFORE you start a new project to send to them.

My new iphone 4 does not have any sound when recording a video with the camera app. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I just got a new white iphone 4. When I try to take a video using the camera app, there is only a muffled sound. I never had this problem with my old iphone. There is a good possibility that your trimming of the SIM card could have damaged it some way. If the SIM was working in the old phone, then you cut it and the first new phone didn't work and now this phone doesn't work, it leads me to believe it has to do with the SIM card or the account. You are sure there is no problem with the account. Did you check with the provider when you got the iPhone 4 to make sure there was no problem with the account when you could not send or receive SMS? Why can't you just get a micro-sim? The iPhone should have come with one when you purchased it.The iPhone 4 is designed for a micro-sim. I don't believe this is a hardware problem unless the phone has been hacked or modified in some manner.

Exporting problem: How can I make a PAL DVD with NTSC footage?

I need some help as I've been trying to burn a DVD for a couple of days now but it still isn't working. Here is my situation:
I shot a lot of standard definition DV with my Canon GL-2 (NTSC, bought in America) that I imported into the trial version of Premiere 5.5.
I edited the footage and set out to make a DVD with the footage that will play on PAL televisions as I live in Australia now and it's all PAL over here.
I exported the footage and put it onto Windows DVD Maker because the trial version of Premiere doesn't let you use Encore.
The footage looked great on Premiere and on the little preview that you get through Windows DVD Maker, but when I burnt the DVD and tried playing it on my TV it looked really bad.
The big problem was the color. Everything was much too red, particularly people's faces.
I assume the problem lies in my export settings, and I was hoping someome who has done this before could help me out. I tried a variety of settings, but they all looked bad and I'd prefer not to waste any more money on DVDs that look like hell.
Is there anyone out there who can tell me how I can get the DVD to look like it does on my computer? What setting would I need to apply? I have been all over the internet, looking at a lot of tutorials and forums, but havent found an answer yet.

My DVD player is playing the DVDs so that's OK, the real problem is that they look so bad. I just bought a whole mess of DVDs because I thought I would just experiment while I was waiting to see if anyone could help me out, and the results have been frustrating. I tried it with all PAL settings and the first DVD I made was much better. That one didnt have all of the sections, just one of the chapters (I wanted to check quickly whether the setting I had was a good one, so I just put a short 7 minute clip on). Encouraged, I tried burning the whole disc using the same settings, but it came out crappy again. Much too red. This is really frustrating me. My computer is new, so I can't see why there would be any problem with the DVD burner, but if two DVDs with the same export settings are coming out differently, I'm thinking it might have to be a problem with either the DVD burner or the DVDs?
Can anybody suggest anything? I'm dying here.

Exporting HD video to NTSC camera

I just edited a video shot on an HVX. I want to export it to a tape, but i only have my sony handycam in NTSC. I'm trying to print to video but all I hear is sound. However, when I stop the export I see the image on my camera monitor. I've tried messing around with Easy Setup but no luck. Any ideas?

DV...not HDV. You need to convert the footage to DV...then you can print that to DV tape to your camera. You can use compressor to do this...export a self contained movie, convert, import, drop into a DV sequence...output.

Converting PAL video to NTSC

Hello, Im new to MAC's and to FCE 4...in fact, I am new to all the Video editing world.
I just received a copy of an internal product movie that was filmed in Europe. They sent me the DVD by express as I need it to play on 6 50" plasmas next week at a trade show.
I use G-PLAY's (Media Players that are basically hard drives with built in control s/w for playing various media and not taking up a lot of space. We used to use DVD players but they are too bulky whereas these media players are the size of a hard drive that we velcro on the back of the plasma and use an IR remote to activate and control.
Up to now I have used ISO's of video's or MPEGS loaded on to the players.
My newest problem is that I have received the PAL version DVD and I think what I first need to do is convert it to NTSC ?? Then convert to an ISO if thats what Im using.
However, not knowing FSC4 and thats what I have on my IMAC, i dont know how to convert from one format to another and looking through the HELP I cant seem to get an answer. If FSC4 cant do that, can someone tell me what can ?

PAL tapes in NTSC cameras

I have an NTSC DV camera and a PAL formatted DV tape I'd like to import into either Quicktime or iMovie. Although the camera can't handle PAL, I'm assuming that DV data is just data, and if it's going via a Firewire cable there must be some way to just import the PAL data straight into a PAL DV file. Anybody know any way that this can be done?

Nattress Standards Conversion would be one proven technique.
Maybe MPEG Streamclip. Seems like I used this a few years ago to go from PAL → NTSC.

Creating a video with ipad camera

When opening the camera the video button can't be activated. I can find the setting to enable it.

Are you sliding the right side of the screen downward to highlight "video"? (Instead of trying to tap "video"?)
Or do you have Restrictions set for the camera? (Settings>General>Restrictions)

How do i get my ipad to stay on to take a long video with the camera?

I would like to record about an hours worth of footage with my ipad. Everytime I try, it shuts off about 5 minutes in. What do I need to change to allow the recording to continue? Thanks!

Settings>General>Auto Lock>Never.
The iPad will not go to sleep at all, but don't forget to set it back to 5 minutes or whatever time you want to use in the settings so that you don't burn through your battery any faster than needed.

HT1222 When i try to record a video with my camer or want to facetime with someone, the sound is very low, my normal sound like sounds of games do work. How can i fix this.? I already have the latest ios and i am using the ipad mini.

If you have not already I would change the Slide size to something that has a 4:3 Ratio.
The Buddy maybe trying to scroll left and right to see the whole slide although this shoud be controlled at you end.
I would open the Connection Doctor during a Chat (iChat's Video menu).
Check that both Bit Rates are relatively stable (there is always some variance.)
Anything over 5% particularly if over 500kbps is likely to be causing problems.
You could try limiting the Bandwidth (iChat Menu > Preferences > Video section) to 500kbps at both ends
It may pay to drop to 200kbps as a test. (you may lose the Side by Side presentation at this speed).

Why no video recording with iphone camera

Can I not take a video with my iphone camera? My old $50 phone did. My $500 iphone can't??????

This is correct.
Was the retail price for this phone $50, or was this your subsidized price for the phone? If subsidized by the cellular provider, the full retail price wasn't $500, but it was much more than $50.
The iPhone includes a camera, so it is a matter of software required to capture video with the camera and save the video. I can only assume Apple decided not to focus development resources on software that they thought the majority of people probably don't or wouldn't use, regardless if a $50 phone is so capable. The few times I've captured video with a cell phone, it wasn't worth the effort. Mediocre quality at best, but usually poor.
With firmware update 2.0 to be released in early July, along with the iTunes App store for 3rd party software as a result of the iPhone SDK (software developers kit) released in March, it is possible a 3rd party developer will provide software for capturing video with the iPhone, and if so, it will indicate this was Apple's intent all along making it optional to those who want this feature.
