Pale blue screen

Windows Vista Home Premium. Latest updated Acrobat.
When I'm reading a pdf, the background color of the screen toggles alternately white and pale blue for each mouse click. What causes this, and how do I get it to stop?

  • Pale Blue Screen of Death!

Did an update on my perfectly working 10.5.1 on the Dual 2 GHz G5 tonight. After the DL and restart it would not install because of failed validation. Thinking that I may have gotten a bum DL I tried Software Update again only to find that it thought I already had it and proceeded to try to install with the same results. I could not find where the DL was so I DLed the 10.5.2 Combo Updater. The install went without apparent problems but on restart the G5 is stuck at the PBSOD. A hard shut down was necessary. A restart resulted in the same. So now instead of a functioning G5 with 10.5.1 I have an aluminum paper weight.
Any one have any ideas on a way out short of a reinstall of 10.5?

  • Why is my macbook pro stuck on a blue screen

I was downloading a program that was put onto a disk image, then my macbook battery died (forgot it was unplugged). When i plugged it back in and booted it back up, it did the usual tone and apple logo/spinning gear. Shortly after it would go to a pale blue screen and occasionally have a spinning gear, but no matter how long i wait it stays on the same screen.
i have tried everything here:        http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570
except i't wont let me start from the install disk (it just goes to the blue screen)
i have the mac os x install disk one and two, but im also not sure what one to put in and if these are the right ones anyways.
I also have a windows xp partition that i CAN access without getting stuck on the blue screen.
So, is the hard drive corrupt even though i can access the windows partition?
Do i need to replace the hard drive?
i cant go to an apple store and get it fixed, i just dont want to drive there (but i will if i need a new hard drive)
this is my first mac and i have only basic knowledge of the operating system.
i think it was running on 10.6 (snow leopard), but i only have the install disks that came with my mac.

To fix your issue is too complicated and lengthy to go into all of it here as it sounds like a hardware issue, it will require the services of person very familiar and experienced with Mac's to first recover your data and then restore OS X back to a functional state which may or may not require new hardware/software installed.
If your under warranty or AppleCare, take it in for service.
You can also hire the services of a local Mac computer support technician experienced in these matters.
Have them look at your Wifi, RAM amount, extra storage and computer backup proceedures in the process.
    Good Luck.

  • Blue Screen of Death after latest update

I have just applied the latest recommended update to my Intel Mac Mini. After the updates installed, it recommended that I reboot the computer, but since doing that, I've been confronted with a blank pale blue screen for the last 45 minutes. I can't connect over SSH or via a shared screen either.
I'm afraid to power it off, in case it's in the middle of doing a firmware update, but then surely this should never take more than 10 minutes or so?
Anyone else had this problem before, or who can recommend my next step?

You are going to have to shut it down eventually. If its been 45 minutes something has gone wrong. Try shutting it down and rebooting in safe mode by holding down the shift key as it boots. Starting this way will force the system to run some checks and disable startup items and you may get it to boot. Then you can work on figuring out if you have any additional issues.

My G4 Apple PowerBook will not boot further than pale blue/grey screen displaying "flashing file symbol / flashing ?"
Last previous action:  Used Firewire cable and "Target Mode" to copy files from G4 eMac to the PowerBook.
I worked from the eMac to the PowerBook, making the PowerBook the "Target".      Files seemed to transfer OK.     Won't boot from InstallDisc.  Holding down T on startup results in Target mode screen.   I have a G4 iMac and a G4 eMac.    Can I use either of these with Firewire cable to boot-up my PowerBook ?
I'm new to using this Communities & Forums Help.   Can someone please help me to get going again ! !     Thanks for your time.  Graflood

    Hello,
It sounds to me like the PowerBook is stuck in target disk mode.
It's expecting the iMac/eMac to be there when booting. Seeming it's not attached, it will show a flashing folder.
If your PowerBook internal drive is bootable, then simply hold down the option key when booting and select it's internal hard drive. That should boot your PowerBook into Mac OS X.

  • Ipod screen goes bright, pale blue, displays vertical bars after update.

I got the notification to update to iTunes 7, did so. Ooh, snazzy interface.
I then got the notification to update my iPod's firmware, did so.
My screen is corrupted. It's extremely bright, everything is displayed in pale blue, and there are vertical stripes all the way across the screen. It's like static, almost.
I can't even think if a proper way to google this, I just get pages and pages worth of White Screen of Death, and this clearly isn't a white screen. For all the world, it looks like a broken screen.... a screen that was NOT broken before the firmware was updated.
I've tried reinstalling, I've tried resetting, I've tried rebooting. I've tried reverting to factory defaults. Nothing works.

One other thing that's not in the change log (but the regulars here know it from experience): If you're upgrading from an earlier 2.x firmware, you won't lose your music. Only those upgrading from .x (non-PlaysForSure) firmwares will lose their music.

  • My iPod Touch's screen has turned pale blue. Help?

My iPod Touch is still newly brought, just a few days old and whilst I was trying to charge it, the screen went to a pale blue. I tried switched it off with the "Wake/Sleep" and home button pressed together at the same time and took out the charger. After 10 seconds, it turns on with the apple logo but then, after a few seconds/minutes it turns back to pale blue. I'm going around in circles and my battery is on low charge.

It seem's that this a major problem and my best advice would be to create a meeting at your local Apple Store's Genius Bar. If you're not sure how to do this, ask me!

  • Total Blue Screen Crash

Just had a really nasty crash, almost like a kernel panic except that there was no panic message.
Had been running without a restart since installing 10.5.6. Woke up the computer from sleep and plugged in my iPhone 3g (running 2.2). It had apparently synched and was simply charging at the time of the crash (but see below).
Several other applications had been running since the day before, including Entourage, Excel, and Word (all 2004, last updated a few months ago; there is a new 11.5.0 update I have not installed). Had checked mail a few minutes before with Entourage and it was hidden. Word was visible on my external monitor (which has the menu bar), and I was actively using Excel on the Macbook screen, editing a formula in a newly-added column. A few keystrokes back Excel had lost keyboard focus (as happens every five minutes or so, apparently a known problem for Rosetta) but as usual clicking on the desktop and then in Excel brought it back.
Between two keystrokes, total crash. Both screens went pale blue with no messages of any kind, and a few seconds later I found myself at the startup login screen with the generic space background. Login completion seemed much faster than after a full restart, so probably some things were either still running or in a state that let them be used without reloading. But all applications were gone; I checked with Activity Monitor and nothing was running except system tasks and my login startup items. When I restarted Excel it loaded a recovery file that was nearly current; I lost only a few minutes of work.
The console log makes it look as if the trigger may have been a failed iPhone synch operation of some kind. Just after it was logged (with a crash report sent automatically) there are a whole series of termination messages (WindowServer event port death, and a whole series of Exited: Terminated events for various applications.)
Is this a known crash? If not, what's the best way to report it? It could be helpful to the OS team to have my logs. It may be relevant that Paragon NTFS was running (though not in active use), and posted some error messages to the console log during the crash and restart.

This is an old thread, but I'm replying in case anyone can shed more light on the subject -- or if my experience helps.
I've had the same blue screen crash a couple of times with my new MacBook Pro (which replaced a MacBook Pro with an apparent hardware problem about a week ago). Though I had problems with the first machine, I never had the blue screen issue with it (and it had a virtually sound-free trackpad click, which is sadly not the case on the replacement machine). But those are stories for another day.
Anyway, I also have Excel 2004 installed on my machine (I also have Excel 2008 installed). But neither app was open during the last blue screen crash, a few moments ago. I only had a few applications open at the time: Mail, Microsoft Entourage 2008, Firefox, TextEdit and possibly Microsoft Word 2004.
I was composing an email in Entourage when the computer screen simply became blue. A few seconds later I was returned to my desktop. All of my applications had closed, and when I reopened Entourage, I found a recovered version of the email I'd been composing, with just a sentence of recent typing unsaved.
This has happened at least one other time on this machine -- again, just a blue screen that functioned like a very quick restart, with no accompanying kernel panic or error message. This machine also was giving me kernel panics the first few days I was working with it, but something -- a Firefox reinstall, a few trashed prefs and library files -- seems to have resolved that.

  • Blue screen at startup; won't start from CD

    Hi,
Two days ago, my MBP froze in the middle of Skyping. I had to restart. First the grey apple appeared for a while with the grey spinning wheel, then a completely blank pale bue screen. I started in safe mode, which worked (though no internet), but a restart led to the same blue screen. I cleared PRAM, no luck. Since I'm traveling and don't have my system disks here in Germany, I bought a new copy of Snow Leopard, but the laptop will not start from it. (Pushing D at startup does not lead to the hardware test either.) The disk is now in the computer and eject does not work.
I have access to a Mac mini whose CD/DVD works, though I don't have a firewire cable here. Anybody have any ideas?
    Thank you.
    Michel

A purchased Snow Leopard will NOT include the hardware test, or run it, unless it is from the original prebundled discs that came with the Mac. Furthermore, the retail Snow Leopard will only boot Macs that predate March 2010.
At this point, I would purchase an external hard drive and data recovery software*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html#RECOVER
And see if your hard drive is salvageable. Thankfully MacBook Pros will boot off USB if you have the right drives. http://www.macsales.com/ sells overseas the right drives. Maybe you can find the same kind of drives where you are at.
Never travel without a backup plan if you are going to bring your computer along.

  • Why this blue screen?

Windows Vista Home Premium. Acrobat 8.1.2
When I click on the screen, the background color toggles between pale blue and white. Why does it do that, and how do I get it to stop?

Just hold on the power button until it turn off. It's a force shut down. It's not really going to harm your computer if you don't do it often.

  • NI Raptor Runtime: Blue screen of death

    Hi
We've suffered two blue screens of death on a Windows 8 system running LabView code in the last couple of months. The event logs show the cause to be the NI Raptor Runtime driver. We are running LabView 2012 SP1 with all critical updates installed. Are there any known issues with this driver?
    Best regards,
    Chris

    Hi Robert
Thanks for your reply. I resinstalled and updated all of the National Instruments software on the machine this week so the DAQmx version should be up-to-date. I've pasted the versions below. We experienced another blue screen within a day of the reinstall/update though.
With regards to the code, it isn't mine so I don't know it inside out. However, the general architecture is a flat sequenece in a while loop. The total loop rate is around 1-3Hz. Within individual frames of the sequence, analogue and digital input tasks are created, run, stopped and cleared in series on each loop iteration. Individual frames may not have rate limiting timers, so a create may happen quite quickly after a clear. State changes on the front panel can cause certain frames to create and run digital output tasks that change the value of output lines, however no front panel interaction was performed within at least a few hours of any of the crashes.
Do you think that it would be worth placing a frame-rate-limiting timer into the code, to reduce the rate at which tasks are stopped and started?
    Best regards,
    Chris

  • Start-up hangs on a blue screen - any ideas?

My iMac, which is running 10.5.7, is hanging on a blue screen at start-up. Goes through the pale gray Apple screen then cycles between two blue screens, one with the little circular progress bar and the other plain blue. No prior problems.
I've tried unplugging peripherals, reset PRAM, safe mode and repairing disk and disk permissions using install disc, all to no avail. Any suggestions before I try to archive/install?
Update: just found that, with my MacBook connected by FireWire, all my shared info on iMac still visible and fully accessible.
    Many thanks!

Already tried that stuff, but thanks for the help. Exhausted all the usual troubleshooting recommendations, and had to resort to archive/instal in the end. Now seems fine, but no wiser as to what happened.

  • MSI @ANYWHERE MASTER BLUE SCREEN ON TV

    hi
today i bought a MSI @NYWHERE MASTER, radio and composite works ok, but when i try to use the tv only i see a blue screen in MSIPVS, and the software can´t recognize any channel from my cable tv, only i can see a blue screen.
i´m in argentina and the tv signal is PAL-N

The MSI TV@nywhere Master (MS-8606) does have driver problems which affect some more than others.
My TV@nywhere Master driver problems are not as severe as yours. There are others I have talked to that have had problems get the card to tune in correctly but only to certain channels. I may be lucky that the channels affected are not used in my area (PAL-I UK), but even so if I wish to use the TV@nywhere Master with any other software (including WinDVR 3 the so called upgrade to MSIPVS) they will not work unles MSIPVS has been run first. Even after MSIPVS has been run there is no guarantee that the tuner will find any channels (like WinDVR 3. The card is no problem when SVideo or Composite inputs are used but this defeats the objective of a TV Tuner card. MSI may argue that MSIPVS works and it does for me but at the cost of a poor display of the "Invincible Video Quality" promised by MSI.
You are able to see the true video quality capabilties of this card by using other software and using one of the Video in options but to watch live TV via MSIPVS is very distracting. The display from MSIPVS whilst playing back live TV (OK on playback of recorded TV) is spoilt by the amount of jaggies, this seams to be cause by every 8-16th scan line either moving a few pixel from the previous 8-16 lines or by the complete absense of 2 or 3 scan lines every 8-16 lines. Either way it is very distracting to watch and destroys the pleasure of watching live TV.
All the problems with the TV@nywhere Master (MS-8606)are related to the Drivers and the supplied software. I will not recommend this card to anyone unless their main use is to capture video or do not intend to watch live TV. If MSI rectify these "flies in the ointment" they would have a TV card that would be hard to beat.

  • Windows Blue Screen Error Message Appears As Soon As IPod Connected

Everytime I connect my IPod to my computer, I get the Windows Blue Screen error message. Thought it was the cable, so plugged cable in by itself. No problem. Uninstalled IPod and ITunes software and then plugged in IPod, still got the Blue Screen. The Blue Screen says something about "recent plugged in device problem". It is not the cable, it must be the IPod. Did not have this problem when I bought it. Tried it on labtop and get the same error message. I can't do updater or anything that requires me to plug the IPod into a computer because the Blue Screen appears immediately. When I unplug, the Blue Screen remains and locks up the computer so I have to restart each time. I have tried everything I can think of. Please help.

Hi Mike thank you for replying,
I am not able to start the computer in safe mode, safe mode with networking, last good known configuration etc, Each time it quickly blue screens and restarts about two secs into the process.
I was unable to try a clean OS install from the disk as it gave the blue screen error shown in the original post. The same thing happened when I tried to use the repair option on the XP home disc. So i can't get into the computer at all to start diagnosing the fault, the only clue I have is the error message, and after searching the internet I haven't found much enlightenment from that yet.
If you can help me out or suggest where to search it would be much appreciated.
    Thx

  • Mini DVI to Video: blue screen after disconnect

    Hi,
can't find a solution: after disconnecting the mini dvi to video-adapter I always get a blue screen and I need to restart my brandnew 20" iMac.
I use it to connect my (old) television via s-video. It is clear that I bought the right Mini-DVI-Adapter.
Can anyone help or has the same problem?
    iMac 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thanks for the help. I'd figured out that shutting it off would keep it from happening and was probably a "best practice," but since 90% of my television watching is from my eyeTV, I'd be turning it on and off a lot.
The only problem with leaving the setup plugged in, is that as soon as the mini DVI cable is plugged in, the resolution on the iMac resets itself to super-large fit for television mode and becomes virtually unusable as a computer, thus when I want to use my computer, the cable has to be unplugged....unless of course you know something I don't
    Thanks,
    Shaun
