Pallet/Context Menus Inconsistent?

Has anyone else noticed that sometimes when you right click on a diagram you get "Select a VI" and "User Libraries", and other times you do not?
I cant find any rhyme or reason for this and its driving me insane. I've tried selecting objects, deselecting object, etc but it still happens. In fact, sometimes i will right click, and the options will be missing, then i will right click again in the same spot and they will show up! Sometimes it seems like its the direction the mouse happens to be moving when I click, but its never repeatable as far as i can tell.
I use my user libraries heavily- sure would shave a few seconds off my day if I could use those nice handy features with a single click everytime!

I am running 8.0.1 on XP, and its done it since day one. Im pretty sure i've seen it on other computers, although I dont have another one handy to try at the moment.
My pallet is in text only mode, but im sure it was happening in icon mode as well.
Ill post pictures of the two version of the pallets- maybe one is a "short mode" or something that you guys might recognize.
There may be a reason for it that I just cant figure out.

  • Can't click links under text menus (CSS menus)

I have an issue clicking certain text menus while using mobile browsers including Firefox Beta and even chrome.
I'm pretty sure they are CSS text menus.. but say I click a header, and there are link options below that header.. I can't click the links that are below it because it quickly loads the link at the top of the menu.
    Say this is the menu:
    Account
    -- info
    -- security
    -- etc
And account is the header link, and I want to access "security" it doesn't even give me a chance to because it loads the Account link.
Confused and don't know why its happening
The pic is an example of a menu with links incant use

This is a common problem with traditional menus because unlike using a mouse, there's no way to "hover" over a menu on mobile, you have to touch it, which then gets processed like a click. Unfortunately I'm not aware of any workarounds.
(My blog has this problem and I probably need a new template that can tell the difference between desktop and mobile browsers and adapt how the menus work.)

  • Text Menus in DVDSP4 or Photoshop?

I'm creating a menu in DVDSP4 that goes through the history of the project.. it is just text with a "NEXT" arrow to navigate through the information.. what is the best way to make the background and text so that it looks crisp and professional as possible when burned onto a dvd -- DVDSP4 or Photoshop or some other process you suggest?

I prefer Photoshop due to the control over the text. San-Serif/larger fonts will work better (20pt plus). Rasterize all layers and effects (drop shawdows and other effects can help to make things look cleaner/less alias) and make a flattend Pict or Tiff. Make sure the menu is the proper size and do not let DVD SP rescale it.
Also working in Motion can help an exporting as a movie (even if you want a still) can look good on the background.

  • Can't select vertical text formatting since Win 7

    Please help.
Have recently upgraded to win 7 and now I cannot select any text formatting options in the drop down text menus. I can see them, but the drop down menu buttons don't work.
    Has anyone had this happen?
I have spent so much time on the computer and it's so hard to get any work done.
    Advice would be much appreciated
I would like to go back to XP but the computer guy says that's not possible.
    Thanks
    ZeeBud

Thank you so much for responding Peter. I feel one step closer to being able to get my work done.
Your solution means that I can now use the tools in the tools palette, but no luck with being able to use the text selection drop down menus.
It's quizzical. I can select the fonts by clicking through file the file path> type> font. Just not through drop downs.
    Any thoughts anyone?

  • I cannot enter text in the iTunes search box

I'm having a really bizarre problem with iTunes latest version (10.5,0.142). When I click in the search field in the upper right-hand corner of the program, I cannot enter any text--no text cursor appears.  I can click on the little down arrow next to the magnifying glass and select "All," or "Artist," or "Album," etc, but I'm not able to enter text. It's like the focus doesn'tshift from the Library pane and any letters I type just cause the highlight for that window to drop down to the closest match to the character I typed, even though the focus has shifted to the search pane.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, but that does not correct this misbehavior.
Not sure if it's related, but I also no longer have the text menus available at the top of the window, whether the program is maximized or minimized and taking up only part of the screen (this is not a screen clipping problem--those text menus are no longer there, though you can get very small hotspots to appear near the upper left hand edge of the program window (when you have the program window in normal mode, rather than maximized), where those text menus would be, and if you click on the hotspots, the menus do appear.
But, by far, the first issue is the most perplexing.

Solved: This was caused by replacing the SegoeUI (Regular) true-type font. I have no idea what process or why that font was deleted, but finding the segoeui.ttf file on another Windows machine, emailing it to myself, saving it to disk, then right-clicking and choosing "Install" fixed this problem.

  • Text isn't displayed correctly in IE6

Just creating a site for someone and am having a few issues with the text displaying correctly in Internet Explorer 6. I tend to create the index page and test it on most browsers out of habit to see if there are any errors. I've noticed since using iWeb '09 I've experienced a lot of text errors. All text in this site is live and Verdana. It is the same if you change it to Arial.
The site can be viewed here: http://bayfield.passionfruitdesign.com/
As you will see, it displays fine in Safari and FF etc, but on IE6 it looks like this:
    http://bayfield.passionfruitdesign.com/images/Bayfieldindexgrab01.jpg
I decided to link to a grab so you can see it to scale - notice how some of the text (what will be live text menus) is either cut off or lines are too close in some paragraphs and line breaks?
Has anyone else experienced this or know of a solution? Is it a case of simply saying to viewers; Please update your browser to IE7?!

I thought I should share my experience. I have just built a website using entirely blank templates. No blogs or photo albums. I found iweb to be an amazing design tool and a fantastic web site builder. I published my site to my own url www.geraldhenry.com with no issues. The site was perfect in Safari, Firefox and Camino on my Mac Pro. I then checked it in Internet Explorer 6 and 8. It was acceptable in 8 but looked terrible in 6. In Explorer 6, all my lists and text formatting had come apart, creating huge gaps between list items and was pushing text off the page. Yet some lists looked perfect. So I used the iweb text inspector to see what was different between the formatting I had used in the lists that displayed perfectly in Explorer 6 and those that had come apart. Here is the information I wanted to share. When using the text inspector, there is a "list" option. It gives you the opportunity to indent text as well as bullets and numbers. If I used the bullet or number indent, there was no problem. But, if I used the text indent, Explorer did not like it and the formatting blew apart as described earlier. So, the key is not to use the text indent. To indent, use the tab key or space bar. You cannot create the amazing text layouts you can using text indenting, but your work will look good in all browsers. In my case, I went through my site and removed all text indenting and replaced it with spaces using the space bar and all of the issues with the lists blowing apart were resolved. Some final notes, I built my own navigation completely and so had no navigation issues. I used Verdana type which displays perfectly in Safari, Firefox and Camino but looks weak in Explorer. Why this is, I don't know. Also, as suggested on www.allaboutiweb.com, I added a landing page that says my site looks best in Safari and Firefox and I offer download links. Please feel free to look at my site using different browsers to see how it looks. I hope this helps.

  • Help combining rollovers with js menus

I'm building a site and have hit a roadblock. I've created
javascript menus (adapting code a friend gave me) that work
perfectly, except for the fact that the main menu items are
currently text, but I'd like them to appear as tabs that I've
created with rollover images. The submenus are working perfectly,
using an image background that repeats on the x axis.
I have built 2 samples of the page; one with each of these
features, that I'd like to combine into one. So far I've been
unsuccessful in my attempts to get this to work.
Each of the pages can be seen at:
    http://www.oaddesign.com/spm/index.html
(this one has the working text menus and submenus)
    http://www.oaddesign.com/spm/index2.html
(this one has the rollover images with no submenus)
If there's a way to get the submenus to work with the
rollover main menu items, I'd love any help I can get.
    Thanks,
    oadesign

You realize that by virtue of using the menu you have, your
    page is
inaccessable to those who browse without javascript enabled,
    or to those who
need to use screen assistive devices when browsing, or even
    to those who
    cannot use a mouse?
You could bypass all of these problems by using a menu system
    that is tested
to perform in all of those situations - like PVII's
    TabMenuMagic -

Also, you have a number of errors both in your page's HTML
    and in your CSS
    that you should fix, e.g.,

    What is "<bodycopy>"?
    * font-size:.3ems;
'ems' is not a valid font metric (use 'em').
    * a {text-decoration:none}

  • Issues with PSD layer menu and interlace "clipping" on text

I am using Photoshop to create text-based layered menus. I'm having issues with the top and/or bottom of the text being "clipped" or cut off. If i bump the text up or down one pixle, it sometimes gets better, but it throws off the balance/spacing of the overall menu... and on text with more than one line of text, it generally creates the clipping issue on another line of text. Is there a de-interlace filter for text menus in DVD Studio 4? Is there something I can try in Photoshop? (The text I am using is 20pt, helvetica. About 95% white over a blueish background... pretty good contrast between the 2.)

actually - just talked with a friend and discovered the problem. I created my photoshop files @720x486. When I cropped the files to 720x480, they work.
    Cool.

  • Menu text from Photoshop .psd bitmapped on DVD

    Hi,
I have edited some footage from DV tape in PP CC, exported sequences and then authored the DVD in Encore with Photoshop .psd files with text layers for menus.
PP CC Sequence settings: 720x576 25fps D1/DV PAL
Export Settings: Format: MPEG2-DVD Preset: PAL DV Wide Progressive
The problem I am having is on final DVD the text on the menus appears very bitmapped, I have left the text menus as text in the psd so should I rasterise it? I have done a test with some menus and tested through encore and it appears not to be any better although I don't have the facility to test on and actual DVD player in my current location.
Whilst creating the sequences can I up res the footage in Media Encoder to 1920x1080 and set my menus in encore to that but would this mean I would have to write a Bluray rather than a DVD?
This footage is 14 years old and I want to get the best from it, my knowledge is limited so any advice would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Martin
PS Any ideas why Adobe are not developing Encore any more and can anybody suggest any alternatives?

If you are using more than 72 DPI, or the wrong size, in your template in Photoshop, DVD SP scales it for you, which is something you do not want to happen. 55 Point type should look pretty good (sans-serif better than serif.)
You should start with a template from Photoshop (PAL it would sound like).
In CS2 you do not need to scale it because it sets it up up if you are not using the non-square pixel aspect ratio (the 720 x 576 template). If you are setting up otherwise the starting size is 768 x 576 and it should be rescaled to 720 x 576 without constraining proportions (Page 85 PDF)

    ¿Encore DVD no soporta AIFF?
AIFF es el formato de audio nativo de Mac pero si tienes quicktime instalado es posible generarlo en pc. Por que no intentas en esta forma?
Suerte, espero que alguna de estas locas ideas funcione.

  • Moving on to next slide right after completion of TEB (text entry box).

    Hello all--
    I'm using Captivate 4.
I have a system training course where we require learners to enter the appropriate date into an TEB.  After the date is entered, I want Captivate to move on to the next slide.  For example, on screen 1, the learner enters '060510', then Captivate should move on to the next slide.
I can make Captivate work great with text menus:  for example, if the learner enters the correct menu item 'A', then I can set the shortcut key to A which causes Captivate to move to the next slide right away and very nicely.  But I can't figure out how to make this work with dates.  Any suggestions???

    Hi there
What you need is a shortcut key to trigger the action. Captivate makes it super easy to assign shortcuts, but they aren't without issues.
For example, some shortcut keys are always interpreted by the browser and therefore cannot be used reliably. In your case a likely shortcut would be to assign 0 as the shortcut. But this has issues because the first character typed is a 0. So the first time 0 were pressed an error would likely be issued because the field isn't complete yet and doesn't match the expected date.
I've seen this asked about before. What is really needed here is for Captivate to allow configuring a Text Entry Box object so it is constantly on the hunt for a specific string the author configures. Once the criteria has been satisfied, the assigned action occurs. You (and anyone else that wants to see this emerge as a feature) should ask Adobe via the Wish Form (link is in my sig).

  • Uneven white splotches on menus

I am using idvd 5.01 on a G4 running 10.3.9 fully loaded with 1.5 GB. I am creating a number of slide shows with and using text menus and sub-menus.
I have placed a simple graphic with a logo and white background over the the
idvd supplied theme background. When I go to preview the dvd I see these white splotches which are uneven and cover the text button. I thought this was simply a function of the preview, but when I burned the DVD it also appeared over every menu!

When I go to preview the dvd I see these white splotches which are uneven and cover the text button.
If you see them in Preview you really have a problem - Preview in iDVD only uses your source material. It sounds like a transparency issue.
Tell us more about what you are attempting to do.

  • DVD Studio Pro Cutting off My Text

DvD Studio Pro is cutting off the text when I have created a menu in Photoshop 8.o I read that DVDSP 4 renders text differently than 3.o but I haven't been able to solve this problem in my text menus.
Has anyone else come across this?
    Gene
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

though DVDSP will sometimes support text layers in photoshop files, it' a good practice to flatten or rasterize those layers in a copy of your photoshop file before importing to DVDSP. I recommend using the photoshop templates for video frame sizes - they will use th correct pixel aspect ratio, and include guides for title safe.

  • Typing Problem (Maybe a Virus?)

This problem probably first showed up about a week ago, and I think might have gotten worse.
Basically, sometimes when I am typing on my iBook, the characters which come up in result of my typing are not regular letters, but rather, symbols (often times similiar to the letter itself, for example, sometimes if I type "Y" a Yen sign will appear.) This occurs in all application windows, and it sporadic. One moment, I could be typing just fine, and then for a few seconds, it goes to weird type, and then back to regular. (However, the weird type has been showing itself more and more.) This problem will occur in all applications including the finder, and in all text fields. (Tested with iChat, System Preferences, iTunes, Safari, and Camino)
On top of that, it seems like whenever that problem occurs, I can't surf the internet (using either Safari, or Camino), by simply clicking in links, or typing out a URL, but rather, must open every page in a new tab or else the page will simply be downloaded to my desktop.
I've tried rebooting, looking around in the character pallete and input menus in the System Preferences, pretty much everything I guess, and still no fix. On top of that, I had to disable password request when waking from sleep just to ensure it doesn't lock me out of my own iBook. Scary stuff uh?
Ironically, I'm posting this from my PeeCee, but any help would be much appreciated so I can get this little bug resolved. Either here on the forums, or by emailing me at [email protected] would work just fine.
Thank you very much for any aid.

    Hi, Nyukin.
I know you've posted this a long time ago, and since there's no more info, you probably have already fixed the issue.
It seemed to be a keyboard malfunction, because those characters are usually activated by holding the ALT key.
Let me know if you had fixed it.

  • Opinions on which size i should get.

ok i am looking at getting a display over the summer, probably a 23 or 30 inch. im planning to get one of the tv tuners from elgato and just use my machine/display combo as my tv along with using it for working on. im an art student but i dont do much digital work other than photo editing and a little PS work here and there. should the 23 inch preform well for my needs? right now im just on my MBP 15in so dont have a huge amount of screen space but im not sure if i need something 4 times the size.
can others that are using the 23 give me feed back (or any one else for that matter)
    thanks
    -matt

    Hi Matt-
I have a 23" ACD. The display has ample desktop for day to day needs, and is plenty roomy using PS.
Browsing the net, you can have two pages open side by side, no problem. Working on text documents, the same, and room for inspectors and other pallettes. Text is never "too small" and eyestrain is kept to a minimum.
In PS, large photos fit easily, and pallettes don't have to ride over the canvas as with smaller displays.
The 23" also "fits" easily into ones eyesite- no need for turning ones head to see from side to side, top to bottom. The 30" definitely uses more muscles to see all parts.....
I don't watch TV on my monitor, but wide format DVD's are a pleasure to watch. Full screen video from a few feet away is comfortable to view.
Games, as well, with full screen presentation, look great, and the monitor presents colors and shades very nicely.
You can count me as a fan of the 23" ACD.
