Palletization and storage unit management

Hi,
On the WM view 2 in material master, there is a section call palletization.
Question:
1 u2013 If this material is going to be used in a storage unit environment, is it COMPULSORY to maintain it? If not maintain it, will I face error during TO creation for SU process?
2 u2013 Because we wouldnu2019t know the Storage unit type upfront until when the truck actually stop at our warehouse, and we using scanner to perform TO creation. Thus, under such scenario, is there a way in the system setup to bypass this maintenance in the material master and later still allow me to put in the SUT  Type I desire on the spot?
tuff

palleteziation data is maintained in material master so that at the time of TO system can know how much quantity will be stored on which  type of pallet and accordingly system will search for the BIN or it will find out that the bin is full
In case you do not mention it in material master then ceratinly you will get the error that please enter the palletelization data during Transfer order creation

  • Storage Unit Management at WS level and/or Storage Type level??

    Hi all,
There are two ways to activate the storage unit management in WM (i.e. Warehouse No, and Storage Type).
Does it means if I want only certain storage type to have the function of SU management, I should NOT activate it on the Warehouse number, and If I want ALL my storage type to have the function of SU management, then I should activate it at warehouse no, and I DO NOT need to activate the storage type level anymore??
    Am i correct?
If not please explan to me as it is quite confuse.
    Thanks
    Tuff

To enable SUM, you must activate it on warehouse number level first. Then SUM can be activated for relevant individual storage type. Interim storage type can not be activated for SUM though.

  • To print transfer order and storage unit labels in lt31

    Hi SAP Gurus
1>Is it possible to print Transfer order and Labels simultaneously in tcode LT31(At a time when LT31 is executed
If yes please guide me the selection parameter in Tcode LT31 and if any configuration required in the background
2>Is it possible to print Transfer order and storage unit labels automatically when MIGO is posted.what are the settings required
My client raised a query that before he was able to print both once Migo is posted .But now only trnasfer orders is getting printed but not SU.
Requesting to help in this issues
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    chandu

you need to define the print control parameter in the customizing and whether you can print both(SU & TO) is depend on the print code which you specify in the setting under
    LE----WM---Activities-----Define print control
After MIGO are you transferring the stock to SU managed storage type , as per STANDARD SAP stock goes to 902 which is Non SU managed so here you need to tell us the flow and the storage type where stock goes after MIGO also is that storage type is SU managed or not

  • Storage Unit Management

    Hi All,
My client has a requirement to use Storage Unit management in a very similar way to HUM. We know that there will be a large amount of custom development to make things work but i have one question.
In HUM you can create multi level structures.
Is this possible in SUM? I assume not and I am aware that un SUM you only see the top level unit. My clients business does require multi level units.
    Thanks
    Stuart

    Hi,
If your client wants to have SUM with multi level SUs you should consider the use of HUM instead of developments.
As for multi level SUS: in my opinion you are right, you cannot have SU "structure" whilst in case of HUM you can use nested HUs. Always the outer HU corresponds to the SU.

The storage unit recognizes the sum of the materials and their related quantities. Handling units recognize packing hierarchies (resulting from nesting) and the serial numbers relating to them. If the stock is changed, it follows that both the storage unit and the handling unit are changed as well.

  • Simple Storage unit management by using of 'real' handling unit data

    Hi all,
actually we have a WM setup to use the full handling unit management in Warehouse. After some years we detected that the HU managed
Warehouse is not the best solution for our business.
Inside of WM we do no more want to have the Handling units. The assigned storage location is not HU managed.
    Now to my question:
We receive from other plants finished goods via inbound delivery. All goods are packed on Handling Units.
When doing the good receipt, Is it possible to use the HU data (vekp, vepo) and create according to it the WM storage units? So one Handling unit
from the inbound delivery will become one storage unit.
thanks in advance for your answers.
    Michael

    Hi Patrick,
we actually have SAP WM with HU management running. but we want to go back to WM without HU management - only with the storage unit management.
when getting an inbound delivery from another plant (in the same client) goods are batch managed and packed on HU´s. i am searching for a possibility to use the HU data from the inbound delivery to create the WM storage units. So one HU should become one WM storage unit.
so i will post to an ERP comuity.
    thanks

  • WM and storage units

    Hi all.
I tested that when in material master (Warehouse management view2) is maintained the relation between loading equipment quantity and storage unit type, system divide total quantity in GR based on this relation and thus there is a TO split. This is OK.
I tried to do this calculation but manually during GR in MIGO, this means, during GR I go to "WM" tab in MIGO transaction and manually introduce this same relation. In this case, no TO split happens, it seems as the system doesn´t recognize the relation introduced in MIGO, just the one introduce in material master. Is it something missing? Is it necessary to activate anything in MIGO? anything related to transfer this informaiton from MIGO into WM?
    Thanks!!!!!

Even I have faced the same problem. Even if you specify the quantities in the WM tab, the values from master gets picked up while creating TO against material document. You will have to take help of a development for this.

  • Storage bin type and storage unit type.

    Hi,
Can anyone explain what is the differnce between the staorage bin type which is maintaine for storage bins and the storage unit type which is maintained in material master.
Can any one correct me that My material storage unit type is maintained in TT and the storage bin for put awayis maintained in PC (storage bin type).
is this the right way to be adapted.
    Sunil

    Hi,
THe storage unit type is a description of how the material is stroed in the storage bin.
Some bins may not able to allow a full pallet due to height restrictions, but a half-pallet may fit.so warehouse can define a storage unit type that defines a half-pallet and qty of the material that can fit on that half-pallet.
    Configuration menu path:IMG-logistics Execution-Warehouse Management-master data-material-define storage unit type.
where as storage bin is the lowest level of storage defined in the warehouse.

  • Zero Stock Check and Storage Units

Hi all, I'm trying to activate zero stock check in a SU managed storage type.
Guys from OSS told me that this is not feasible, since it may expose system to SU duplication. Even if I don't understand this constraint (I am picking for production replenishment, i.e. moving toward a not SU managed Storage Type, so this risk is not my case), I can accept this sentence.
Since customer is asking for this function, I've tried, as interim solution, to activate Zero Stock Check as Inventory Method, but it does not work too.
I've found note 862681, not applicable in my case, but is quoting LT09 and inventory check, not mentioning any constraint. In my understanding, it means that it is possible.
Someone can help me to solve this problem?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Sanpan
I am in a similar boat.
We have a Bulk warehouse with storage types with 'B' putaway strategy. We would also like to instigate zero stock check but get the message Zero stock check not supported in bulk storage areas with storage units
    Message no. LT246
Did you find a solution to this? Or have you coded a solution?
    Many thanks
    Adam.

  • MIGO and storage unit type ?

    Hi
In MIGO,  in the WM tab. When replacing the unit of storage type by another  and the user execute save. the system always takes the unit storage type of material.
Is there a way so that the system takes the storage unit type entered by the user and not of material ?
    Many thinks

I believe the answer is yes, this link may give you some good info for this:

  • PACKING AND HANDLING UNIT MANAGEMENT

    HELLO GURUS,
Please help me out in handling a project consisting of Packing and HU. I want to know how it can be done in dairy products. Here in dairy, we will have two kinds of packing. One is milk into Plastic packet and the other one is packets into crates. If you give detailed customization part along with the sequence of the steps, it would be of great help. Your fast reply in this regard is highly appreciated.
    Ravindra
    SAP SD consultant

To define Packing you should follow the below mentioned SAP Menu path.
    1. Define Number Ranges for Handling Units by going to IMG-->Logistics Execution >Shipping>Packing-->Define Number Ranges for Handling Units
    2. Packing Control by Item Category
    3. Define Packaging material Types
    4. Define Material Group for Packaging Materials
    5. Define Allowed Packaging Materials
    6. Define Packing Instructions
    Transaction code POP1
    SAP Menu R/3 Easy Access>Logistics>Central Functions>Handling Unit Management>Master Data>Packing Instructions>Create
    7. Define Packing Instructions Determination Records
Check with  Material master data if the error comes. maintain material group pack matl.

  • Yard Management and Handling Unit Management

I am configuring yard Management in ECC6.0 for a LSP business. Ecc 6.0 is standard and not LSP sepcific industry.
    Requirement is :
Track the Container once unloaded at the Port with its content - This I have mapped as HU management.
Recieve the Container at the Freight Forwarder (FF) Whse and perform Check In activity. .
Ability to issue Gate Pass once vehicle arrives at the ,FF whse.
Keep track of inventory of Containers by Shipping Line.
Recieve Empty containers from Shipping line.
Know the container as to how long it has been at the FF Whse to bill the Shiping line for Storage charges of the Container.
    Solution concept:
I am thinking that this will be used with HU management and Yard Management. Only doubt I have is that whether Yard Management will track my Containers or Not. The Gate Pass Issued by Yard Management is for the Vehicle and not the Container.
Any inputs will be highly appreciated
    Thanks
    Raj

    Hi Rajeev,
Thanks for the Answer. yes, I need reports to Track the Container by Freight Forwarder ie if a Container belongs to P&O Nedlyod shipping line then I should get the details of teh same . Also Empty Container comes in and then its loaded with Outbound delivery. I am putting the container number in the Container field when we do the check in and putting the forwarding agent as the respective shipping line that way I will know how many container of different size of Forwarder is in my Yard.
Also client wants a way to create a Container Master ie The shipping line gives a list of Empty containers which are lying at the Port. Only when the client needs the containers , he will ask for the same with the shipping line. Not sure is there any standard way of handling this in Yard Management. I am more inclined to make a Z Table to store this data.
Also in the process once I have the container in the Yard , I need to stuff this container with Deliveries. I am planning to Pack the Delivery goods on a Pallet and then Pack this Pallet on to the Conatiner. I am doing this via VL02n transaction . I was somehow unable to locate the Container by Conainer ID when I need to stuff the same in VL02N. Maybe I am missing something or is the data not available? If not , then I plan to get the same by means of some user exit on the HU side ie Check for a HU which is Empty and has the type 20 feet or 40 feet as the case may be and show a Pop up of the same and let user select the COntainer in which he needs to pack the Pallets.
Any pointers will be highly appreciated.
    Regards

  • When to introduce Storage Unit into a warehouse business

    Hi all,
I am new in storage unit and I did read up a couple website about the storage unit and know how it work.
However, I am wondering if you can share your experience with regards to following questions.
In what kind of warehouse operation setting best suit to use SAP storage unit functionality? Does the warehouse business process require to meet some basic pre-requisites before a storage unit process of SAP is consider feasible and not overkill or will provide value added to the whole warehouse operation?
Is there any concern or remification of introducing SAP SU into a warehouse operation (both from system and business perspective). In another word, impact to other module as a result of SU.
    Looking forward to your feedback.
    Regards,
    Daniel

Hello Daniel, there are a number of reasons and scenarios for introduction of storage units.
I assume you want to use / are using - RF devices for WM...
From the aspect of warehouse operations if your products don't have printed material bar codes, then you would need to print them at some point in order to be able to scan your materials during transfer order confirmation. When you have batch management too, in bulk storage types everything gets more complicated since if you don't have storage unit management, and have batch managed materials, you also need to scan batch number in addition to scanning your material bar code. Ok, now you need to have that batch number bar-coded too. This gets a bit tricky, scanning two bar codes, printing 2 bar codes... Then why not introduce storage unit management and kill a couple of flies with one hit?
What storage unit does, is keep all the info stored in itself.
SU keeps track of material inside it, batch number, etc. So when you are picking from bulk storage type, by simply scanning SU you want to pick, you are actually specifying all the info from that SU, like material, batch, etc.
Someone will argue that material bar-code isn't mandatory to be scanned and yes it can be switched off, but it leaves you with a lot of room for mistakes, so if you don't have SU management, you need to scan the material + batch.
Also, it is easier to perform physical inventory with RF and storage unit managed warehouse. If you are having batch management that is.
From business point of view first we can think of traceability (not in the meaning of standard batch traceability) => like having the information of which exact pallet went to which customer.
When you scan storage unit for picking to customer 1234, you will have the information where did the exact pallet go, if you need that kind of info.
You can also have some sort of functionality like that without SU management, because you can actually store more information in one bar code, like scanning once and having all the info in one long number (by parsing the number you can assign that info to the appropriate fields in RF transactions).
And that's one good approach too if you don't want storage unit management but want to scan only once, but this requires some modifications to RF programs to be able to parse the scanned data into multiple data fields. Storage unit does something like that with just a bit of customizing.
Actually there are a lot of good things SU introduces in your warehouse, but sometimes it is overkill indeed, if you don't really need it then don't implement it, sometimes things are good to be kept simple, although I seem to thing about SU management to be the simplest way of operating WH.
If you need any further clarification or question about SU, feel free...

    Mihailo

  • Handling Unit Management and supply areas with WM/control cycles

    Dear all,
has anyone come across the issue how to handle a replenishment process for production with supply area within WM and Handling Unit Management?
Normally a supply area is being staged via control cycles. in the supply area, all storage units get lost (standard functionality as far as I know). When we post the GI, the components will be taken out of the supply area, backflushing is not allowed as far as I know.
Now: what happens if HUM is switched on? Do we have to enter a HU for these GI's as well? Or does the supply area  keep the information of the SU/HU? I want to avoid that the users have to tell the system the HU no. for every screw they take/consume...
    Thanks & regards
    Christian

    Hi,
    (as already described,)
it is possible to use handling unit management together with lean
warehouse management. You activate handling unit management independent
from storage unit management (that is only possible in case of full-WM
    as far as I know).
Only in case if storage location is full-WM- AND HU-managed the storage
unit management is always active and HU numbers are taken over as SU
numbers. In all other cases HUM and SUM are independent from each other
and number ranges must be set a way that they are not overlapping.
    Regards,
    Ely

  • Physical inventory with and without handling unit managment

    Hello all,
I would like to know what is the difference between physical inventory with and without handling unit management.
    Pl. advise.
    Thanks,
    Maxx

Assuming you are referring to WM inventory, it is very similar.  Inventory is conducted at the SU level in WM if you are HU managed.  One of the most widely known issues is the lack of ability to post differences of nested HUs at the WM level.  If you are not using nested HUs, the process is the same as storage unit management without handling unit management.

  • Storage unit types and storage bin types  - Need

    Hi,
i want to know what is the use of the storage unit type and storage bin type.
    thanks,
    Maxx

    Dear Maxx,
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005vp/helpdata/en/c6/f844694afa11d182b90000e829fbfe/frameset.htm
    Storage Bin:
A storage type generally contains several storage spaces or slots. These are called storage bins in Warehouse Management (WM). The storage bin is the smallest available unit of space in a warehouse. The storage bin therefore describes the position in the warehouse where the goods are or can be stored.
Since the address of a storage bin is frequently derived from a coordinate system, a storage bin is often referred to as a coordinate. The coordinate 01-02-03 for example, can refer to a storage bin in row 1, stack 2, and level 3.
You assign each storage bin to a specific warehouse number and storage type according to its location. You must also assign each storage bin to a storage section.
You can also define the following additional characteristics of a storage bin:
    Maximum weight
    Total capacity
    Fire containment section
Storage bin type (for example, for small or large pallets)
With certain stock placement strategies, the storage bin type plays a significant role in optimizing the automatic search for a storage bin in connection with the pallet type. For example, you can define the WM putaway strategy to place large industrial pallets into a specific large bin type and smaller pallets into small bins.
    Storage Unit:
In the system, a storage unit record consists of a header and at least one material data record (quant data record).
The header contains information which is relevant for the entire storage unit and includes the:
    Storage unit number
Storage unit type (SUT) of the storage unit
Storage bin in which the storage unit is currently located
Status, which provides current information about the storage unit
Specific information about the stock contained in a storage unit is found in the material data record. The material record is already familiar to you in the existing system as a quant data record. For SU management, this information can be managed at the storage unit level.
The following graphics illustrate how WM handles storage bins with and without the use of storage unit management. For these examples, storage bins are displayed in which 200 boxes of red pencils and 50 boxes of blue pencils are stored. The stock is distributed on two pallets.
    Hope this will help.
    Regards,
    Naveen.
