Palm Centro Issue; Hard to Explain

Hello eveyone,
I really hope I can explain this accuaretly enough and hopefully get and answer.
I woke up this morning and my Palm Centro (AT&T) wouldn't turn on. Even though I thought I had charged it all night, I thought the charger must've fallen out or something. Later on, I got home and I plugged my charger in and the centro came on just like it would after you had the battery taken out or after a reset.
It came ot the date & time screen as per usual and then further went to the main phone app with the 'Phone Off.' I first loked at the battery meter and for some reason it said 97% (charging) which I thought was odd considering it was just dead. I then went to turn the phone on, the Hello Screen came on and it made the little nose but after that it restarted itself once again.
I've tried this several time and I've tried a soft and warm reset on the device and nothing works.
I now have it plugged into my computer via my hotsunc cable and the charge light is green but it will not turn on. i've also tried a soft and warm reset connected this way and nothing has worked, the screen wont even come on.
So I'm definitly at a loss here,any help would be very very very much appreciated!

Attempt a Hard Reset. If this behavior continues then the device will need to be repaired or replaced.

Palm Centro Issue With Yahoo Mail Plus POP via Versamail

I have a Palm Centro and have been using Versamail for 3 1/2 years with my Yahoo Mail Plus account via POP. On September 12th I stopped having the ability to send or receive POP email on my Yahoo Mail Plus account. I have spoken with Sprint & Yahoo. I have done all the steps they have asked and I have even gone as far as replacing my phone with another Palm Centro and still have the same issue. I know the config is correct as it was working for so long. I can use my Gmail POP in Versamail fine. I receive the error when setting up the Yahoo Mail Plus account in Versamail when I click on "Test Settings" I receive the following... "Error connecting to server. Please check your network or server settings and re-sync." Does anyone have any ideas about this? Thanks.

actually some e-mail providers like yahoo free account, msn mail and free hot mail does not work with the mail application, as you told me that it needs to enable the pop server for such mail
and about the iphone are you sure that ur using the mail application in iphone, you must be using safari to browse through ur mails
yahoo mail plus is compatible with the mail application but it comes for a price so here you could either use safari to go through your mail or go in for some other free account like AOL which will work with the mail application

16:9 issue (hard to explain)

I posted about this issue exactly a month ago, and I failed to respond to those gracious enough to help me for a handful of reasons. So first I'd really like to thank those guys before I give it another go. (Thanks, guys.)
So now then, I will do my best not to be redundant. The first time around, I found it really wordy to describe my issue, so I've made 3 screen captures of my FCP workspace to better explain what I'm dealing with. You can find them here:

My issue basically deals with the way in which my footage is represented in the canvas window. In Capture 1, the image in the canvas is smaller, and its aspect ratio is preserved with black matting. In Capture 2, the image is `normal` as it is the same size as the image in the viewer. The image in Cap. 2 has not been rendered, as indicated by the grey line above the timeline, whereas in Cap. 1, the clips in the timeline are marked by greyish-blue (NOTE: before they were auto-rendered, they were green). Now these are separate scenes, but when I attempt to assemble them, they jump from `normal` to `rendered` within the same sequence.
As for how this occurred? I have no idea. One day, everything was normal, the next, everything I spliced into a new sequence just did what it does in Capture 1. It is extremely worrisome. Has anyone got any ideas? I'd be eternally grateful to anyone who does. I'm thinning over this as we speak.
(Capture 3, by the way... Notice how the clips in the sequence look sort of bright, as if they were highlighted? When I click on a clip, the entire sequence goes back to its normal grey color, and then when I click just outside of it, it goes back to being bright. Could this be that something's minorly wrong w/ the program?)

Hey Raymond, glad you've gotten your other sequence straightened out.
As for capture 3 - now that I've gotten a little sleep - I think I know what the issue is. You seem to have a set an In point at the head of the sequence. (Did you accidently press the I key at some point?)
Anyway, with your 'Bar' sequence active in the Timeline, press Option-X (that's Clear In & Out, also found in the Mark menu of the menubar).
That should do the trick.

Verizon Palm Centro ringtone issues

I have A Verizon Wireless Palm Centro and I have some songs on Ptunes I want to use as ringtones. I'm not getting a card anytime soon so can someone just please find a FREE software for me that will turn the songs either on my computer to MIDI files or whaterever will work with my phone. thnx!

Songs can easily "DL" right to your phone from your computer. It's all explained clearly in the User Guide that ships with every device (on the Installation Disk in pdf format), and is also available online at Palm.com.:
First Open Pocket Tunes on your phone, then Windows Media Player. When both programs are up and running, plug in your HotSync cable, but do not press the button to Hotsync!
Windows: Open Windows Media
Player on your computer. On the Sync
tab, select Set Up Sync. Select Finish.
In the Sync tab, select the files and
playlists you want to sync manually.
Select Start Sync. The files are
transferred to your smartphone.
This will send the whole library to your card. There is an option to "Not Sync Automatically" that will then just open the library window in Windows Media Player on the right pane. You can then drag and drop any songs you want on the card into this window. When the songs are in the window that you want, then press the "Start Sync" button below the list in Windows Media Player.

Palm Centro - Button Issues (new)

Last month I dropped my palm centro in a bowl of water (aka my toilet... ). I let it dry in a bowl of uncooked rice and everything returned to normal. All the buttons worked, and the touchscreen function worked normally. Recently though suddenly the buttons stopped working. The last couple of days have been humid and that may have something to do with it but I tried turning my phone off and removing the battery to let it dry out. Only the touchscreen function works, making navigating around my phone very tedious and difficult. Sometimes I get stuck in an application and so I have to remove the battery and when I put it back in all of the buttons work momentarily. Is there anything I can do to get them to work permanently again? Thank you for your time.

That is unfortunate to hear.
You can try a hard reset to resolve the issue. The hard reset will erase all data on the device. Make sure you sync to the PC to backup your data.
If the hard reset does not correct the issue, then the Centro will need to be repaired.

Palm Centro GSM Unlocked freezing issues still unresolved?

Hi, I'm one of the many many (yes, we exist and we ARE MANY, even if Palm keeps ignoring us) unhappy Centro owners that purchased a smartphone that (ironically) doesn't work as a phone... I'm writing from Mexico and I bought a Palm Centro with Telcel.
I don't think it's necessary to again describe the problem because it's been discussed a lot here and in other respected and popular Treo/PDA forums... just google "Centro freeze" and you'll see for yourself.
I just wanted to know a couple of things:
1.Is Palm ever going to adress this issue as an official bug and offer a ROM/Firmware update solution or are they cowardly going to turn they're backs on us?
2. Has anyone suffering from this issue tried the custom ROM update offered by some guy at TreoCentral and did it work?
3. Flashing and/or changing the ROM of my quasi-phone voids warranty?
I hope someone can help us, the once satisfied and loyal Palm users now turned into desperate postin/ranting machines...

Palm Centro Carriername display

Hi I'm new and this is my first post.
In March I baught a Centro from England to use in Sweden with the carrier Comviq / Tele 2.
I noticed emedietly two problems one minor and one for me vital error.
I reported the problem to Palm Support in Ireland and after over 50 mail trying to explain and even trying to help them correcting the problem I only got
replys like have you resetted the phone have you installed any program, you sertanly recognise the totaly ignoranse for take the problem seriously.
I got so upset so I reported the malfunctioning phone to VISA as a fraud and thankfully they have now refunded the hole amount for the purchase of the PALM Centro.
And I didn't even had to send the phone back. So I experimented with it and solved the problem to get SMS-Reciept to work and found a solution that I have posted
at TreoCentral and others have confirmed the patch to work.
The other problem with the Carrier Name Display in the phoneapp is more of an cosmetic thing and I haven't looked into it so deep because it's only cosmetic.
But I got some PM from people asking me if i have found a solution, and I promised to look into it. But I need some basic information.
So what I need to know is where the Phone Application reads this information carriername, is it from the SIM Card or is it from any database file like CarrierProfiles2.pdb or NetworkProfiles.pdb that is extracted from CarrierCustomisation.prc in ROM.
Any help appreciated because PALM seems not to care and it would be fun to solve before Palm is vanished.

More Centro issues

I had an issue with my phone a few weeks ago where the sound from the ear piece was coming out at a low volume and muffled through the Speakerphone part of the Centro, (Even when it was supposed to be coming from the ear piece). That happened on and off for a couple days but all the other sounds that were supposed to work from the speakerphone part of the centro worked fine. Then after about 3 days no sounds came out of anyplace. I had AT&T replace the phone and it's worked fine for me for about a week. Today it started doing the same thing. All AT&T tells me is "It's a device issue and we need to send you a new one". Is there anything that can be done to prevent this from happening? I use my Centro for work and can't afford to be without it again for a week while AT&T sends me another new one. I do have 3rd party software on my phone but nothing that is not made for the Palm Centro. Could any of my software be causing the issues, or is it just a bad batch of Centro phones?

Only way to check is to Hard Reset the device and not install any of the 3rd party apps. If the problem does not reoccur within the same length of time, then it points to a software problem.

Palm centro wont sync epocrates

Hello,
I am having two problems with my palm centro
1. I am trying to download epocrates, via a mac, to my palm centro. The icon shows up but when selected the program is empty. The hotsync message says there is an error in downloading. The centro says it is unable to complete, the installer is missing
2. I want to edit the categories on my contacts. Everytime I try to edit I can get into the edit screen, type in the edit, but the centro re-boots when I hit OK, not saving the edit.

Have you installed anything lately that corresponds with the timing of the errors?
Since the device is still covered under warranty, I'd take it back to whomever you purchased it through, either Sprint or Palm.
Note: Both of them might ask you to Hard Reset the phone to determine whether the problem is caused by software. Have you tried this yet?

Exporting address book to Palm Centro

I broke the screen on my Centro. Luckily, I had a spare a friend gave me when he bought an I-phone. I cannot figure out how to get my address book from my Palm Desktop to my new phone. I can't beam it from the other phone because the screen no longer works. Please help!!!

You'll need to erase the "new" phone with a Hard Reset first.
How to Hard Reset a Palm Centro.
Go to http://kb.palm.com and enter the number 45050 into the "Solution ID" box.
Once this is complete, perform a HotSync with the computer the data is residing on. Palm Desktop will recognize the device as blank, and will ask you: "Create a New HotSync Account, or use an Existing One?" Choose Existing, and pick your original HotSync Account name.
All the data should be copied to your "new" phone when the process is completed.

Palm Centro 690 - for Verizon

Hello - I am hoping that someone can help me - I have just recently received my new Palm Centro from Verizon which I have had for a week now - The problem I am encountering is - there are times that I hit the power button and it goes on without a problem and there are other times that it does a hard reboot - WHY does it do that - am I hitting something to completely power it down?
There has been 2 times already that I have to take the battery out and put it back on in order to turn the palm on - and
There has been a couple of times that that I hear almost a static noise and then it goes to a hard reboot -
Can anyone explain to me why this does this??
thank you for any help that you can offer - I really happy with this device but if it is something that I cannot rely on then I am going to have to possibly return it.

1. - will I be able to have all the old information that was on my Z22 on my centro ~ OR will I be starting from scratch?
You will have the data from the Z22. The renaming of the backup folder only affects the settings, 3rd party apps., etc. in the backup folder.
2. - After I rename the old back up folder ~ Do I have to reinstall the Verizon Centro program?
NO, the beauty of this method is that the only thing you need to do is rename the backup folder to backup.old, Hard reset your device and sync. You should be back in business without all the hassles you have been experiencing.
3. - After I rename the old back up folder ~ do I have to choose a new username?
NO, you will sync with the same username so you can get all your data in the existing username to the Centro.
Make sure before you sync, after renaming the backup folder to backup.old and the hard reset, to set the conduits to desktop overwrites handheld.
If you follow the instructions in the previous post, you should be A-OK.

Palm centro giving "Please wait" every 15 seconds.

My Palm centro is giving "Please wait" every 15 seconds, even if im doing nothing. When I am doing something its very annoying as It always freezes for one second beforehand.
ive tried a soft reset and a system reset.
what could be causing this and how do I fix it?

Hello AussieGuy and welcome to the Palm forums.
I don't recall hearing about this issue before. Are you restoring your applications and data on the Centro after performing a hard reset by immediately performing a HotSync? What happens if you don't restore your data right away? Will the Centro start working normally again?
Have you checked to see if there is a ROM software upgrade available for your Centro?

Problems unlocking a Palm Centro

Hi, I bought a Palm Centro locked to Telstra for my son. I have made 3 attempts to get this phone unlocked from Telstra:
1. Went into a Telstra shop, they rang the number for unlocking phones and I was given the unlocking code. Unfortunately this was given incorrectly by someone who spoke English as a 2nd language, made worse by being in a Telstra shop in a very busy shopping centre. This person got the "slash" mixed up with "hache". I followed their instructions, but couldn't get the unlocking to work and decided to try later at home. Still no luck.
2. A few months later (son still in primary school at this stage), I tried again by ringing Telstra and explaining the problem. I got transferred to several different sections, but ended up being told that I had to ring Palm. I rang Palm, got to speak to several different people, got told that it was a Telstra problem. Rang Telstra again, got the run-around again, decided to give up for a whole to preserve my sanity. Each time I spoke to a different person at Telstra or Palm/HP, I had to explain the whole story.
3. About 3 months later, I decide to try again and managed to find a Telstra shop not in a shopping centre, explained the problem. The first bloke struggled to understand what I was saying, passed the matter off to the second bloke, who was "the technician", but he still couldn't sort it out. He told me that it was a software issue and that the phone would have be sent interstate for servicing, with a hefty fee just for them to look at it, and it would take about 10 days. Meanwhile son is at high school and not having a phone is now a problem.
Here's what happens:
The screen says Phone is Off. When you try to switch it on, nothing happens. It doesn't matter which type of SIM card you insert, the Centro just doesn't "see" the SIM card. This did not happen before the first attempt to unlock. I do not think that the phone is damaged, although it's possible that the software is now stuffed up because of Telstra's instructions.
I have the unlocking code, I have the IMEI - what I need to know is how to get this phone from Limbo-land, or wherever its phone function has disappeared to. Can anyone help?

SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME TODAY!! I went to the ATT store, they said i would have to call the business number for them. Long story short, they told me my phone was "unavailable to unlock". The guy said that usually in the unlock box on their system, it would show a reason as to why it can't be unlocked, but showed just unavailable. It's only been 60 days for me; but a somewhat pricey alternative is here. Good luck

Hanging up on Palm Centro without pushing red/end button?

Hello,
I have recently gone through a few Palm Centros for various problems (initial one wouldn't charge when plugged into a wall, replacement 1 wouldn't make/receive phone calls/text messages) and thought I had finally gotten a properly working one. Unfortunately, the red end button on my Centro stopped working yesterday. Since the rest of the phone is fine and set up like I want it, I am reluctant to try to replace this one also. Does anyone know how to hang up a phone call without pushing the red end button??? This is my only problem - if I need to turn off the phone, I can take out the battery, but telling everyone to hang up when I talk to them or having to take out the battery after leaving a message/checking voicemail is getting annoying.

You could enable the touchscreen during calls or try using the 5-way navigator and center button to hang up.
Some corded and bluetooth headsets have a pick-up/hang-up button.
If you don't want to return the device but don't mind setting it up again from scratch, you could do a good HotSync and then "hard reset" the phone. That might resolve any software issue which is affecting the button; it can't fix a hardware problem, of course.

Palm Centro providers?

I'd like to keep using a Palm Centro, which I now have through Verizon Wireless. My current Centro is now partially disabled with a cracked screen. I have anther Centro handset, but Verizon says it can only activate a Verizon-branded Centro - and they don't sell them anymore. Ouch! Does anyone know any other wireless service provider who still offers the Centro?
