Palm Centro/Outlook Sync

Hi,
I have a Verizon Palm Centro, about 2 years old. When I sync using the USB cable, I continually get the message that all databases have synced correctly. However, nothing changes in either my phone or the Outlook on my PC (Windows XP, Outlook 2007).
This all used to work until a few months ago I started getting messages that one of my databases was not syncing (forget which one it was). This happened shortly after I added ACT! software to my PC, which operates off of Outlook. I called Verizon tech support and was stepped through a "fix". After the fix, I was no longer getting error messages, however I now realize that no syncing was actually taking place, at least not with Outlook. (BTW, I am willing to uninstall ACT! if that will help).
I need to get this fixed, and have had little luck in getting through on the phone to a Verizon tech support person.
Please help, and thanks.

Try these steps to configure your device.
Double-click the HotSync icon(located in the System Tray).
Alternate navigation: Click Start> Programs (All Programs)> Palm> HotSync Manager.
Select the desired device / profilefrom the HotSync Manager settings formenu.
Click Connections.
Ensure USBis checked.
Click Applications.
Select the desired Conduitthen click Configure.
Ensure the desired Actionis selected for the conduit then click OK.
Synchronize the Files-Updates and synchronizes the data on both the handheld and desktop computer, using the most current information as the standard. This setting is typically used for day-to-day HotSync operations.
Desktop Overwrites Handheld- Uses the information on the desktop computer to replace any information on the handheld. Typically, this option is used in restoring lost information to a handheld.
Handheld Overwrites Desktop- Uses the information on the handheld to replace any information on the desktop.
Do Nothing- Does not synchronize or replace any data on either the handheld or desktop computer.
8.Repeat steps 5 and 6for each of the desired conduits..
9. Click Done.
Hope this is helpful!

The best way is to not sync media rather use an SD card to store pictures. Less stress on you and more free memory for your device.

  • Palm centro wont sync epocrates

    Hello,
I am having two problems with my palm centro
    1. I am trying to download epocrates, via a mac, to my palm centro. The icon shows up but when selected the program is empty. The hotsync message says there is an error in downloading. The centro says it is unable to complete, the installer is missing
    2. I want to edit the categories on my contacts. Everytime I try to edit I can get into the edit screen, type in the edit, but the centro re-boots when I hit OK, not saving the edit.

    Did these keys ever work?
Have you installed anything lately that corresponds with the timing of the errors?
Since the device is still covered under warranty, I'd take it back to whomever you purchased it through, either Sprint or Palm.
Note:  Both of them might ask you to Hard Reset the phone to determine whether the problem is caused by software.  Have you tried this yet?

  • Palm Centro Bluetooth Sync with Vista 64bit

I just got a Palm Centro and was able to go all the way through configuring both the Palm Centro and the PC to see each other.  I created a virtual COM port (COM5) and selected that port as my Serial Connection.
That is when it stops working.  Pressing the HotSync button on the Centro gives me the following error...
Unable to initiate HotSync operation because the port is in use by another application.
This port was just created, how can it be in use?
    Thanks, John

Did you check bluetooth under connections in Hotsync Manager on the PC? Right click the hotsync icon and goto settings, then connections. Is bluetooth there and checked? If not do so.
Next delete the bluetooth connection on the device and try to recreate it.  You shouldn't need to create the virtual port on a vista system. That step was for older versions of windows that didn't do that automaticaly.

  • Palm Centro - Entourage Sync HELP!

How do I set up to sync my centro to my entourage? I'm sure someone knows how to do this. HELP!
I can get hot sync to go both ways between Palm desktop but I use Entourage for all my contacts and calendar. How do I set this up? I assume it's very basic but I find no conduit install etc to get it working.
    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

It used to be simple with Entourage 2004, all you have to do supposedly was just to install a Microsoft office component called Handheld Sync Installer. But with Entourage 2008, it is is tightly integrated with Apple's Sync services. There is an excelent tutorial guide by Microsoft from this link.

  • Palm Centro Calendar Sync

Downloaded new update for controlled up on 2 calendar.Nothing helped.Uninstalled.Where can I get an old version and will it load my dataviz document handler, colored calendar and stuff? Help !!! I used my desktop allot.
    Post relates to: Centro (AT&T)

Ok, you will need to do a "clean" uninstall of Palm desktop and install Palm desktop 4.1.4e and try that version. That version has the color for the calendar and your docs to go should work but you may need to upgrade to a newer version.
Click on the following link to the kb.palm.com webpage for the article regarding Palm Desktop 4.1.4e and HotSync Manager (Windows)
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=32991
Here are the insctuctions for the clean unionstall on Vista.
You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
happens. You can find your data files by going to Start --> Documents -->
Palm OS Desktop. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and
copy. Then go to your PC desktop right click on a blank spot and select paste.
If this is the first time you are installing Palm desktop and encountering a problem, skip the previous step.
Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
with Palm Desktop from your computer.
Go to the following locations on the PC and delete the folders listed below.
    C:\Program Files\Palm or Palm One
    C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Palm or
    PalmOne
    C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata
*Note you may need to view hidden folders to get to appdata. To do that go
into your control panel and open folder options. Go to view tab and uncheck
    hide hidden files.
Once this is done you will need to delete some registry keys from your PC Operating System.
Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
from starting up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
PC technician that you can pay to help you. This procedure will show them everything they need to delete. To make sure we have a good copy of the current registry, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
Go to start on the PC, in the search field type "regedit.exe" without quotes.
Highlight COMPUTER, go to File --> Export. Should pop up with a Save As box.
Current location is fine, should be in My Documents or save to a location you will remember. In the file name on the bottom type "backup[todaysdate]" i.e. backup07072008. Next, the hard part.
The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
BUT do not turn off your computer.
The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer.
Then reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks
you for a username, enter the name that is on your device in the upper right corner of the hotsync screen. Do not sync during this process. There is a chance the data will be deleted from the device if you sync during the install.
Once you have version 6.2 uninstalled, install 4.1.4e and do not sync during the install. After you complete the install of 4.1.4e, set the conduits in hotsync manager to handheld overwrites desktop. This will perform a sync one-way to the PC from the handheld.
Once you have the data in Palm desktop, use the export function in Palm desktop. Here is a procedure for exporting your data.
The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a seperate folder on your PC.
Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28734
Make sure you select all for the range in the export window.
With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive.
Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.

  • Can't sync Palm Centro and Outlook 2007/Windows 7 - please help!

    Hello,
I've never posted on a forum, but I'm at my wits end...!  I've been trying to get my Palm Centro to sync Contacts/Calendar/Memos to Outlook 2007 on my new laptop for a week now with no success.  It used to sync just fine to my old computer with Windows XP and Outlook 2003.  Then that computer crashed (my Outlook files were backed up on an external harddrive).  I received my new computer with Windows 7 XP (32-bit) and Outlook 2007.  I've downloaded the Palm Desktop 6.2, Windows 2007 Conduit, and Software Update 1.03 (Windows installer) for Centro for Verizon.
When I sync my phone to my new Outlook, it completes all 12 steps, but does not load Contacts/Calendar/Memos to Outlook.  This is a list of the error messages:

Can someone please help me transfer Contacts/Calendar/Memos from my Palm Centro to my computer's Outlook 2007?
I've ready about 3rd party software in posts (Pocket Mirror), but I don't know if it applies here because the Contact/Calendar/Memo information is in my Centro - not in Outlook.  I need to get it from my Centro to Outlook 2007.
Any help is greatly appreciated!  Thank you!

Sorry hat, the Centro has absolutely nothing in common with a webOS device!  It runs PalmOS.  Nice of you to reply with your suggestion though!
@SyncHelpPlease:  OLERR errors are covered in this Palm KB article:
    http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/31167_en.html
Something I noticed in your post - you installed Palm 6.2.2 AND the 2007 conduit.  Palm Desktop 6.2.2. has the 2007 conduits built into it already, and the patch is not needed.  Whether this is the cause of your problems, I'm not sure, but I've fielded several posts of the same issue where the user did the same thing you did!
I'd suggest doing a clean uninstall, and reinstall of Palm Desktop 6.2.2 only.
I admit, I do not use Outlook, nor Win7, so I'm giving you my best guess at a way to solve your problem.  Hopefully, this may lead to a solution!

  • How to set "from" field in Versamail 4.0.1 EAS / Palm Centro Verizon

I have set up a Palm Centro to sync via Activesync using Versamail 4.01.00. All seems to be working normally but there doesn't seem to be a place to set the senders proper first and last name as the sender. When I send an outbound message the recipient receives the message from login "username" instead of "Firstname Lastname". Anyone know where to change this?

  • Only Able to Wirelessly Sync Palm Centro One-Time Before Needing to Reboot My PC to Sync Again

I'm using a Bluetooth dongle to sync between a Palm Centro and my PC, which uses the Windows Vista 64-bit and Outlook 2007. After an unbelievable four hours on the phone with Palm support, I was able to synchronize wirelessly because that was the only option available.
All synchronizations have been problem free for at least four months and then for reasons that escape me, I can only successfully sync once, without having to reboot my PC. It seems that each reboot is good for one sync. When I try to sync more than once, I get the following error message on my Centro:
"Unable to initiate hot sync operation because the port is in use by another application."
I am probably going to be upgrading to Windows 7 over the next month or two and am a bit concerned with the problems I've seen from people who've gone from Vista to Windows 7, who did not have any problems under Vista. The only reason I mention this is because of whatever solution that is suggested, hopefully it will also work under Windows 7.
It is great to have a community that helps with Palm. Thank you very much.

The Bluetooth work around as worked for most customers and does not for some. This is for both Vista 64 and Windows 7 64. With your case it sounds like the Bluetooth partnership needs to be renewed. To do that delete both partnerships from the device and then re-add them. If you need more information on this please look at this thread: http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id=windows_hotsync&thread.id=53678

If you do a search on the forum for 4004 you will find many other posts about the error message especially with Vista. The Centro is relatively new and any extra information you can provide us will greatly help decode this error.
    1. Can you post all third party applications you have installed on your device
    2. What device did you upgrade from?
    3. Did you follow standard upgrade procedures that can be found here http://kb.palm.com solution id 12926
    4. Are you syncing through EAS?
    5. Are you doing a cabled sync, bluetooth, wireless?
    6. Are you using any other backup program, either through Sprint or another third party company?
    7. Are you syncing to Palm Desktop or Microsoft Outlook? (if outlook what version)
At this time with the limited information you have provided the only solution I can suggest if the soft reset as the previous person posted is to hard reset your device and follow the standard upgrade procedure that I provided for you on step 2.
Any other information you can provide that you believe might be of some use will be great also.

  • Palm TX: Outlook via Microsoft Exchange syncing but no data is transferred

    Dear Group
I am not a newbie. I am very computer and gadget hardware and software savvy. My PalmTX syncs but there is no data transferred. Previously, the syncing worked well on Outlook 2003, 2007, and 2013. However, I started having issues with data transfer after syncing when I downgraded from Office 2013 to Office 2010. I downgraded from Office 2013 because it was a resource hog on my computer. I stripped all reminants of Office 2013 (including registry reminants) before installing Office 2010 to ensure that there was no possibility of confusion for the Palm TX. I tried unstalling and reinstalling several times. Note, every time I performed this process, I uninstalled the Outlook software/files as well as all Palm software/files including any registry reminants. When I reinstalled, I started with the Outlook2007 then PalmDeskTopSetup6.2.2 then PalmConduit2007. Also, I tried several brand new sync cables as well as cleaned/de-dusted the sync connectors on the Palm TX itself  . . . again with no success.
I think that the problem is that the conduit itself is not being formed. In Hotsync when I click on configure > change hotsync action > settings, I receive an error message that states " Microsoft Outlook Conduit - An unknown error has occurred". Previously this setting function would have text that would allow me to modify how the conduit is receiving data (i.e. MS Exchange; IMAP) as I recall - not 100% sure. If my suspicions are correct, one of the following is corrupt: PalmDeskTopSetup6.2.2, PalmConduit2007, or MS Exchange. Since I do not have "fresh" copies of PalmDeskTopSetup6.2.2 and PalmConduit2007 since the HP links no longer work, I ran a repair on my MS Exchange file. This still did not fix the problem. Note that everytime I uninstall/reinstall Outlook, I delete the MS Exchange file and all connected files such that it recreates it from scratch when Outlook is reinstalled again. To be clear, that does not rule out MS Exchange as the culprit because everytime Microsoft adds in a patch or security change something else always "breaks" :-).  I am unsure what to do next. Has anyone else had this problem or have any suggestions on what I could do to fix this? I really really need my at minimum my calendar tranferred to my Palm TX. Please help. Thank you.
My computer and Palm TX setup is as follows:
    *Win7 x64
*Currently running Outlook 2007 (downgraded from 2010 and 2013 because MS Office Products are resource hogs on my computer)
*Email Sources: MS Exchange (work) and local ISP (home - IMAP email) - both accounts are running simultaneously
    *Sync through USB
    *Driver: Akeeba for Win x64
*Palm OS installation software: From HP - PalmDeskTop6.2.2 (Contains HotSync Manager 7.0.2); From HP PalmOutlook2007Condiut
    *Outlook log file message:

    Dear Group
I have solved my problem . I wanted to share the solution with you for those of you who may be having a similar issue AND you tried all of the posted suggestions from the PalmOS/WinMo message board with no success. My problem was that something was preventing the conduit between my Palm and Outlook from being formed. The result was that my Palm/Computer would sync but no data (calendar entries, tasks, etc) would be transferred. Before I get to what worked for me, run through the following options before you try my fix:
BACK UP YOUR FILES!!!! BACK UP YOUR FILES!!!! BACK UP YOUR FILES!!!!
Repair your outlook file (pst or ost) - microsoft has detailed instructions on how to do this with your version of outlook. Uninstall and reinstall Palm Components (Installation Files and Conduits relevant for your outllook). Sync your Palm/Computer and check for transfer of content (calendar, tasks, etc) to your Palm. If this is unsuccessful . . .
Remove your current outlook profile and build a new profile - microsoft has detailed instructions on how to do this with your version of outlook. Sync your Palm/Computer and check for transfer of content (calendar, tasks, etc) to your Palm. If this is unsuccessful . . .
Completely uninstall outlook, which will include removal of relevant registry entries and system folders. I STRONGLY recommend that you DO NOT attempt to do this "manually" yourself unless you are experience at making such changes to your computer. Incorrect changes to your computer registry and/or system folders will completely shut down your computer and ultimately cause you to lose all of your data due to the methods that will be required to repair your mistake. The good news for those of you who have no experise in this area is that Microsoft actually has a FIX IT PATCH REMOVAL TOOL that will perform a complete unstall of outlook/office automatically.  - microsoft has detailed instructions on how to do this with your version of outlook. Uninstall and reinstall Palm Components (Installation Files and Conduits relevant for your outllook). Sync your Palm/Computer and check for transfer of content (calendar, tasks, etc) to your Palm. If this is unsuccessful . . .
Ensure that your computer data is being completely INDEXED. In your Windows Control Panel, there should be a setting called INDEXING OPTIONS. If indexing is not complete follow microsofts instructions for your version of Windows to allow completion of the indexing. Note this will take some time. You may want to do this overnight. Uninstall and reinstall Palm Components (Installation Files and Conduits relevant for your outllook). Sync your Palm/Computer and check for transfer of content (calendar, tasks, etc) to your Palm. If this is unsuccessful . . . Uninstall Palm Components. Go back to INDEXING OPTIONS and completely strip and rebuild your index from scatch by pressing the Rebuild button in your version of Windows. Note that this will take some time, again you may want to do this overnight or over the weekend depending on how much stuff you have on your computer. Once complete, reinstall Palm Components, sync your Palm/Computer and check for transfer of content (calendar, tasks, etc) to your Palm. If this is unsuccessful . . .
What finally worked for me was creating a new WINDOWS PROFILE. I discovered through doing some other system and software checks that I did not mention here that my WINDOWS PROFILE was corrupt and that this was what was causing the failure of conduit formation between my outlook and palm. How you will create a new windows profile will be different depending on your Version of the Windows Operating System.  - microsoft has detailed instructions on how to do this with your version of Windows. Uninstall and reinstall outlook. Uninstall and reinstall Palm Components (Installation Files and Conduits relevant for your outllook). Sync your Palm/Computer and check for transfer of content (calendar, tasks, etc) to your Palm.
    Best of Luck

I assume you are using Palm desktop 6.2. To verify the version, go to help-about in Palm desktop for the version number.
Are you using Windows Vista or XP?
Outlook 2000 will not work with 6.2 on Vista. You need Outlook 2002 or higher.
If you want to use Outlook 2000 on Vista, you can use Palm desktop 4.1.4e. Here is the link for the download for 4.1.4e.

You will need to "clean" uninstall Palm desktop 6.2 before installing Palm desktop 4.1.4e.
Let me know the version of Windows you have and I can provide the uninstall instructions.

  • Can't sync palm centro with Mac G4 and palm software 4.2.1

I just purchased a palm centro690 smart phone.  My service is with verizon.  I have a Mac G4 with OS 10.4.11.  I already had palm software installed on my computer and was using the palm calendar as my main calendar.  My calendar and address data won't sync with my palm centro.  I've tried changing the settings of the conduits to 'MacIntosh overrides device'.  I've tried removing and then reinstalling the palm software as well.  Strangely enough, the memos and the tasks did hotsync.  I spent around 2 hours with  palm tech support and nothing is working.  I'm not completely sure, however, that I correctly removed the palm software from my desktop before reinstalling the new software.  Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Allen G
Thank you so much for your reply.  I did speak to a different customer service person at Palm tech support.  I think that the problem was that I had a different username on my device (from a previous test) and after changing that and doing a hard reboot of the phone and also changing the settings on the proper conduits, it is now working.  I had tried changing the settings on the conduits before, but I think that it had synced with the wrong username on the device for some reason.  It now seems to be working.
