Palm Centro Unlock Button

The key unlock button on my Palm Centro has ceased to work.  The only way to access the phone is to remove and replace the battery then use it before it goes to the sleep mode.  Has anyone else encountered this problem, and how did you solve it?
Thanks,

No, I have not installed any new software lately.  I started having the Keyguard problem a week or two ago and it was intermittant.  It would not work at all for several hours then would start working normally for a few hours.  About the time I was ready to give up on it, the Keyguard would start working again.  Finally, two days ago, I could not get it to work at all and had to recycle the battery to get to the phone to turn it on or off or make a call.  That is when I did some research and found out how to disable the Keyguard function.  It appears to working normally now except that the Keyguard function is disabled.  Do you think I should do a hard reset?

Or any option to upgrade to any other HP/PALM phone, in exchange of my this phone?

Hello smilekapoor, Palm Inc. ceased making new phones many years ago, and I'm afraid HP no longer supports them.
However, if you google "palm centro repair" you will find many places that still offer parts for your phone.
I do not know if any offer service to India; this will require some research on your part.

  • Can't send e-mails using Versamail 4.0.1 form my Palm Centro (unlocked - from ATT - on Rogers network).

Good afternoon. I am using a Palm Centro I just bought (unlocked - from ATT - on Rogers network). All is working great BUT sending e-mails. Versamail is receiving just fine but refuses to send. It puts everything I try to send into the "outbox" and then tries to send only to later tell me that it unable to send. The server I go through is a POP server. It has never given me such an issue before - Any advice!!

    Hello!
With POP/IMAP email, there are 2 server.  One is incomming to whihc ur ok and the other is outgoing to which that one is not.  Since you are using Rogers for service, use the SMTP server from them to which I do belive is still smtp.rogerswirelessdata.com for the outgoing mail server.
Even though the phone has been unlocked, the phone design is still ATT so the versamail application is probably still using ATT's SMTP by default and you need to make the manual change.

  • Palm Centro Option Button Issue

Hi, I have a Centro (Verizon) on software revision CENTRO-1.03-VZW that I had to hard reset last night. Ever since then, I've lost some option button function. I used to be able to hold the option button and press the left/right arrows and move word-by-word through messages, but that doesn't work anymore. Any ideas? This is driving me insane trying to figure it out!
    Thanks!

  • Sending contact from Palm Centro

    Hello,
I'm using Palm Centro (unlocked). I was trying to send a contact, and I found no option to send it with SMS. It automatically sent through MMS. I'm living in Indonesia, and MMS is not really a fashion. Very few of us activated this feature, and some others are still using non-MMS supported phones.
Is it possible to send contact from my Centro to others with SMS, without having to copy and paste the number manually?
Oh, and while I'm at it, is there a keyboard shortcut to highlight text on the screen without using the stylus or without touching the screen? (like pressing shift+arrow in windows).

Hi..  Welcome to the Palm forums.  If you are trying to send a contact I am not seeing a way to send it via sms.  But if you go into the contact and then using the menu key, bottom right hand corner of the keyboard next to ALT, you will find a send option.  I show you can send by bluetooth or email.  I would think email is the way you will want to send it.

I want to know how can I unlock a Sprint Palm Centro, to use it with another Service provider, since I have moved to another country. Any Ideas?

Unlocked phones normally refer to GSM networked phones - a Sprint Centro has a CDMA radio in it.

As I stated above, you look for the "Prefs" icon on your phone, then when it opens you look for "Keyguard"....   :\

  • Palm Centro GSM Unlocked freezing issues still unresolved?

Hi, I'm one of the many many (yes, we exist and we ARE MANY, even if Palm keeps ignoring us) unhappy Centro owners that purchased a smartphone that (ironically) doesn't work as a phone... I'm writing from Mexico and I bought a Palm Centro with Telcel.
I don't think it's necessary to again describe the problem because it's been discussed a lot here and in other respected and popular Treo/PDA forums... just google "Centro freeze" and you'll see for yourself.
I just wanted to know a couple of things:
1.Is Palm ever going to adress this issue as an official bug and offer a ROM/Firmware update solution or are they cowardly going to turn they're backs on us?
    2. Has anyone suffering from this issue tried the custom ROM update offered by some guy at TreoCentral and did it work?
    3. Flashing and/or changing the ROM of my quasi-phone voids warranty?
I hope someone can help us, the once satisfied and loyal Palm users now turned into desperate postin/ranting machines...

Since this is the offical forum of Palm, I and many other Centro users would like an offical answer on this, please.

  • Palm Centro - Button Issues (new)

Last month I dropped my palm centro in a bowl of water (aka my toilet... ). I let it dry in a bowl of uncooked rice and everything returned to normal. All the buttons worked, and the touchscreen function worked normally. Recently though suddenly the buttons stopped working. The last couple of days have been humid and that may have something to do with it but I tried turning my phone off and removing the battery to let it dry out. Only the touchscreen function works, making navigating around my phone very tedious and difficult. Sometimes I get stuck in an application and so I have to remove the battery and when I put it back in all of the buttons work momentarily. Is there anything I can do to get them to work permanently again? Thank you for your time.
    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

    That is unfortunate to hear.
You can try a hard reset to resolve the issue. The hard reset will erase all data on the device. Make sure you sync to the PC to backup your data.
If the hard reset does not correct the issue, then the Centro will need to be repaired.

  • Problems unlocking a Palm Centro

Hi, I bought a Palm Centro locked to Telstra for my son.  I have made 3 attempts to get this phone unlocked from Telstra:
    1. Went into a Telstra shop, they rang the number for unlocking phones and I was given the unlocking code.  Unfortunately this was given incorrectly by someone who spoke English as a 2nd language, made worse by being in a Telstra shop in a very busy shopping centre.  This person got the "slash" mixed up with "hache".  I followed their instructions, but couldn't get the unlocking to work and decided to try later at home.  Still no luck.
    2. A few months later (son still in primary school at this stage), I tried again by ringing Telstra and explaining the problem.  I got transferred to several different sections, but ended up being told that I had to ring Palm.  I rang Palm, got to speak to several different people, got told that it was a Telstra problem.  Rang Telstra again, got the run-around again, decided to give up for a whole to preserve my sanity.  Each time I spoke to a different person at Telstra or Palm/HP, I had to explain the whole story.
    3. About 3 months later, I decide to try again and managed to find a Telstra shop not in a shopping centre, explained the problem.  The first bloke struggled to understand what I was saying, passed the matter off to the second bloke, who was "the technician", but he still couldn't sort it out.  He told me that it was a software issue and that the phone would have be sent interstate for servicing, with a hefty fee just for them to look at it, and it would take about 10 days.  Meanwhile son is at high school and not having a phone is now a problem.
    Here's what happens:
The screen says Phone is Off.  When you try to switch it on, nothing happens.  It doesn't matter which type of SIM card you insert, the Centro just doesn't "see" the SIM card.  This did not happen before the first attempt to unlock.  I do not think that the phone is damaged, although it's possible that the software is now stuffed up because of Telstra's instructions.
I have the unlocking code, I have the IMEI - what I need to know is how to get this phone from Limbo-land, or wherever its phone function has disappeared to.  Can anyone help?
Post relates to: Centro (Unlocked GSM)

SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME TODAY!! I went to the ATT store, they said i would have to call the business number for them. Long story short, they told me my phone was "unavailable to unlock".  The guy said that usually in the unlock box on their system, it would show a reason as to why it can't be unlocked, but showed just unavailable.  It's only been 60 days for me; but a somewhat pricey alternative is here.  Good luck

  • Hanging up on Palm Centro without pushing red/end button?

    Hello,
I have recently gone through a few Palm Centros for various problems (initial one wouldn't charge when plugged into a wall, replacement 1 wouldn't make/receive phone calls/text messages) and thought I had finally gotten a properly working one.  Unfortunately, the red end button on my Centro stopped working yesterday.  Since the rest of the phone is fine and set up like I want it, I am reluctant to try to replace this one also.  Does anyone know how to hang up a phone call without pushing the red end button??? This is my only problem - if I need to turn off the phone, I can take out the battery, but telling everyone to hang up when I talk to them or having to take out the battery after leaving a message/checking voicemail is getting annoying.
    Help!
    Post relates to: Centro (AT&T)

You could enable the touchscreen during calls or try using the 5-way navigator and center button to hang up.
Some corded and bluetooth headsets have a pick-up/hang-up button.
If you don't want to return the device but don't mind setting it up again from scratch, you could do a good HotSync and then "hard reset" the phone. That might resolve any software issue which is affecting the button; it can't fix a hardware problem, of course.

  • Unlocked palm centro

i have used a palm pda for many years and now have an unlocked centro.  i don't need a smartphone - just a pda.  is there any hp pda that is compatible with the palm os so that i can transfer the data from the centro?

Unfortunately, they dont make PDAs anymore
but there was an application Palm made where it would transfer your Palm Desktop info to your webOS phone, which I am not sure whether it still works.
webosnation.com is another option for help.

What has a card got to do with accessing the net from your phone?  Remove it, and see if the error goes away.  You do have a Data account with your provider, correct?
Certainly you aren't trying to use a Wifi card in a PalmOS Centro, right?    As mentioned above, if there are no Palm drivers, none will work.

  • Palm centro dropping calls at voicemail

I have a new palm centro from at&t. It seems to drop the call, or go to mute when I reach another persons mailbox. It doesnt always do this, but it goes in spurts. I'll hear the ringing, then when I should hear a voicemail message I hear nothing.
    Post relates to: Centro (AT&T)

Here is the work around.  I have escalated the issue to both AT&T Tech Support and Palm.  I don't think either really cares so all bets are off on a software/firmware upgrade.
Issue:  Palm Centro has high percentage of call failures on call originations that end up terminating to voicemail or answering machines.  After screen blanks out while the terminating number is still ringing, the phone mutes (both speaker and mic) and acts like the call was dropped.
The problem occurs when a GSM call origination generates ringback for 30 seconds or longer.  Most carriers now have the handset versus the network generating the ringback that the caller hears.  For some reason Palm mutes the call if the ringback is for 30 seconds or longer.  My findings indicate that this occurs because of their Auto Off  interval.  See page 252 of the owner’s manual.  Also see page 285 where Palm  states:  “ Auto-off interval - The time of inactivity that passes before the screen on your Centro turns off. The wireless features on your Centro are unaffected by this setting.”
Test:  Find a number that has either an answering machine set to answer after 6 (30 seconds of) rings or another mobile phone on a different carrier (Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile) that is powered on and has good signal strength.  Most carriers default the time of ringback (page response) to 30 seconds before either delivering an announcement or redirecting the call to voicemail.  If the phone is not on or doesn’t have a signal, the cellular network will not provide 30 seconds of ringback before rolling the call to announcement or voicemail.  In this case, this test will fail and you will hear the voicemail or answering machine greeting.  Make sure you place test calls to the phone # and it goes to dead air before trying the below.
    In the Centro:
    Go to Phone
    Options
    System Options
Change Auto Off after from 30 seconds to 1 minute.
Now test to see if you get to voicemail or the answering machine every time. You should also be able to leave a message.  I tested to see if the message gets cut off because the Auto Off  timer could power off the speaker and mic after 20-30 seconds (30 seconds of ringback, a greeting of some length and then the prompts to leave a message).  The message was complete so I do not believe this is an issue but it should be thoroughly tested.
The downside of this fix is that the screen will stay on for 1 minute after unlocking keyguard.  This will eat up more battery.  If you need max battery life, leave the auto off after set to 30 seconds.  Whenever you receive dead air when you believe you should get voicemail or an answering machine, hit the phone button while the call is in progress.  This wakes up the phone’s screen and you should get the greeting already in progress.  The phone could mute again after 30 seconds but you’ll never know it so your message may get cut off.  I have not tested this but other Centro owners report that the terminating number has a voicemail with a slight buzzing.
Let me know how this works for you.  We need to share this with Palm because there auto off function is certainly affecting the wireless features of our Centros.
