Palm Centro with Jawbone - dropped calls

I have the original Jawbone and a new Jawbone Prime.  Both are dropped by my Centro (AT&T) and will not reconnect during the call.  However, the phone still shows that it is connected to the Jawbone.  After the call is completed, the next call starts out on the Jawbone.  The Jawbone website indicated that Palm has a patch to resolve this problem.  I can't find it at palm.com.
Post relates to: Centro (AT&T)

Have you removed the partnership off the Centro, done a soft reset and re added the partnership back to the device? Also I tried to search the Jawbone website for the patch that it speaks of. I could not find it. Can you link back to the site? Reason I ask there is no Patch or update for the Centro for Bluetooth.

I assume you are using Palm desktop 6.2. To verify the version, go to help-about in Palm desktop for the version number.
Are you using Windows Vista or XP?
Outlook 2000 will not work with 6.2 on Vista. You need Outlook 2002 or higher.
If you want to use Outlook 2000 on Vista, you can use Palm desktop 4.1.4e. Here is the link for the download for 4.1.4e.
    http://kb.palm.com/SRVS/NUA/launchKB.asp?c=32991
You will need to "clean" uninstall Palm desktop 6.2 before installing Palm desktop 4.1.4e.
Let me know the version of Windows you have and I can provide the uninstall instructions.

  • Can't sync palm centro with Mac G4 and palm software 4.2.1

I just purchased a palm centro690 smart phone.  My service is with verizon.  I have a Mac G4 with OS 10.4.11.  I already had palm software installed on my computer and was using the palm calendar as my main calendar.  My calendar and address data won't sync with my palm centro.  I've tried changing the settings of the conduits to 'MacIntosh overrides device'.  I've tried removing and then reinstalling the palm software as well.  Strangely enough, the memos and the tasks did hotsync.  I spent around 2 hours with  palm tech support and nothing is working.  I'm not completely sure, however, that I correctly removed the palm software from my desktop before reinstalling the new software.  Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Allen G
Thank you so much for your reply.  I did speak to a different customer service person at Palm tech support.  I think that the problem was that I had a different username on my device (from a previous test) and after changing that and doing a hard reboot of the phone and also changing the settings on the proper conduits, it is now working.  I had tried changing the settings on the conduits before, but I think that it had synced with the wrong username on the device for some reason.  It now seems to be working.

  • Has anyone else had problems with severe dropped calls since updating to IOS 5.1?

I have just updated my phone today and have had nothing but dropped calls.  I thought this update was supposed to make my AT&T connection better.  What's going on Apple????

Ever since I updated to iOS 5.1 my connection has dropped down to what I was getting with my older iPhone 3g. With Apple eliminating the rollback option my feeling is that we are SOL until the powers to be determine that we are not (a) crazy (b) stupid or (c) unable to realize that the phones have always performed this way.

  • Syncing selected files only to Palm Centro with Mac

Hello!  Even when I tell my Mac to "do nothing" with my contacts, calendars, memos, etc via HotSync's conduit manager (for instance, I am just trying to install new files) it still syncs everything.  Not only does this take forever, but it rewrites over my phone book with the contacts I had in my last Palm (TX which was not a phone).  What do I need to do differently?  Thanks!

I am unable to find any information (ast least so it makes sense to me) that would explain how to actually sync between the calendar app that comes with Vista rather than Outlook.
Can anybody tell me whether I can do this?  If so, how????

  • Intellisync Handheld Edition with Palm Centro / OS 5.4.9?

    Hi there!
I am thinking of upgrading my AT&T Wireless phone to a Palm Centro so I can combine my old Palm Vx with my phone.  The Centro uses Palm OS 5.4.9, according to the spec sheet.  I currently synchronize my old Palm Vx using Intellisync 5.3.2, as I have to synchronize to Outlook 2003 and Lotus Organizer 5.0.
Does anyone on this board have experience with using Intellisync with a Palm Centro?  If so, which version of Intellisync have you used?  Per the Nokia tech support, Intellisync 6.0 is compatible with Palm OS 5.4, so it should be compatible with 5.4.9.  I just need to ensure I can synchronize my Lotus Organizer 5.0 with the Centro phone, as I believe the Outlook 2003 isn't a problem.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi.. Welcome to the Palm forums.  I would have to do some research on intellisync as it is not something supported by our support.  But in this case intellisync will not be necessary since your data is in Outlook 2003.  When you get your Centro install the software that comes with it.  During that installation it will ask you if you want to sync with palm desktop or outlook.  Select outlook and it should put your outlook data on the centro for you.  You will not need the old device or intellisync to accomplish this.  I would however, recommend that once you have the centro in hand you call our tech support at 8774263777 to help walk you thru the first setup and sync.

Please post any info you find regarding the compatibility of the Palm Centro with Intellisync Handheld Edition.  As I said in a previous post, I still maintain data in Lotus Organizer 5.0 that will need to be sync'd with the Palm Centro.

  • Setting up Bluetooth HotSync - Palm Centro, Windows 7, 64 bit

A couple of days ago I posted on here trying to figure out how to HotSync my Palm Centro with my new computer that has Windows 7 (64 bit).  I followed the instructions - had to go and buy a Bluetooth Adapter for the computer - and went through the instructions from the sticky that was pointed out to me in my original question.  I'm to the point where I'm trying to set up the phone to do a Bluetooth HotSync but when it's searching for computers it doesn't find any...
HELP!!!!! What do I need to do now.  It may take me a couple of days to get back if anyone answers this quickly because I have a very hectic weekend but any and all advice is appreciated.  Thanks.

What has a card got to do with accessing the net from your phone?  Remove it, and see if the error goes away.  You do have a Data account with your provider, correct?
Certainly you aren't trying to use a Wifi card in a PalmOS Centro, right?    As mentioned above, if there are no Palm drivers, none will work.

  • Palm Centro GSM Unlocked freezing issues still unresolved?

Hi, I'm one of the many many (yes, we exist and we ARE MANY, even if Palm keeps ignoring us) unhappy Centro owners that purchased a smartphone that (ironically) doesn't work as a phone... I'm writing from Mexico and I bought a Palm Centro with Telcel.
I don't think it's necessary to again describe the problem because it's been discussed a lot here and in other respected and popular Treo/PDA forums... just google "Centro freeze" and you'll see for yourself.
I just wanted to know a couple of things:
1.Is Palm ever going to adress this issue as an official bug and offer a ROM/Firmware update solution or are they cowardly going to turn they're backs on us?
    2. Has anyone suffering from this issue tried the custom ROM update offered by some guy at TreoCentral and did it work?
    3. Flashing and/or changing the ROM of my quasi-phone voids warranty?
I hope someone can help us, the once satisfied and loyal Palm users now turned into desperate postin/ranting machines...

Since this is the offical forum of Palm, I and many other Centro users would like an offical answer on this, please.

  • NUMEROUS DROPPED CALLS!!!!!!!!!!!

You will note my frustration in this email. I apologize in advance.
I have been experiencing NUMEROUS dropped calls per day, with the problem beginning a couple of months ago, and getting progressively worse. I'm in the metro Detroit area. Has ANYONE else been experiencing this, either in Detroit or nationwide?
Lately, I consider myself LUCKY if I experience a 10 minute phone call with no dropped calls. On some of my worse calls, the thing drops out 5-10 times and I need to keep calling the person back. Sometimes the call doesn't drop, but a situation occurs where I can't hear anything and the other side hears a garbled sound.
I have a STRONG 3G signal. It is NOT a signal strength issue. I have an iPhone 3GS. WHAT'S THE DEAL APPLE/AT&T???
Finally -- I notice that my phone gets bogged down with syslogd from time to time. Could this be a software issue where a runaway process takes the processing power away from the phone call process?
    - Eric

Same problem here, and on three brand new iPhone 3GS's.
One I travel with, dropped calls all over the country. One my daughter uses in a large city, all calls drop within 10 minutes, most usually much faster than that. One my other daughter uses in a smaller town, dropped calls also often there.
After much searching I come up with a number of 30 percent seems to be the official number that apple/att consider acceptable for a dropped call rate. Since dropped calls "never" seem to happen to the multi-thousand posts apple coolaid drinkers on this board, I imagine your and my dropped call rate is much higher than the 30 percent.
The only thing I have found that helps somewhat is turning off the 3G feature in settings. When you have a suitable 2G signal, the call is more stable. My one daughter cannot do this because her phone reception is full of static without 3G, so it's either static or dropped calls for her. One would think apple/att would have a solution after two years for this dropped calls problem. The other obvious solution is to return the phone and try another carrier/phone.
FYI - Expect this thread to be deleted after a few days. That seems to happen to dropped calls threads on here. I just commented on one last week, and it was deleted already. Perhaps before the apple coolaid drinkers start bashing me they can suggest a few solutions, if they have any, to the dropped call issue this time.

  • Why am I dropping calls and only get 3G?

I switched to Verizon because my previous provider stopped covering my area. Now I'm having problems with Verizon dropping calls and not having internet at home. Any idea why the service has gotten worse?

        @local101,
Thanks for the additional details! I show you're in an extended area and may see the service fluctuate between 3G and 4G. Verizon Wireless radio frequency (RF) engineers and system performance engineers regularly evaluate network coverage and performance to identify locations that may require additional coverage. Based on their analyses and recommendations cell site construction or other improvements are then planned and budgeted accordingly.
Try removing the sim card for a minute or two. Insert and retest. This should help refresh the connection.

  • Repeated dropped calls while using speakerphone.

I'm having problems that whenever I'm using my speakerphone, and my phone shifts position ever so slightly (no, the screen does NOT get bumped) that my calls often get dropped.  At one point I thought it was just between myself and another smartphone user and had them restart their phone and we tried the call again.  The calls continued to drop off so long as I was using the speakerphone, but would be fine if speakerphone was turned off. I was frustrated to find out that it was not just with other smartphone users, but with standard cell phone users as well that this issue was continuing to happen.
Anyone else having this issue? Any suggestions as to what might be causing it and what I might do to solve the problem?
    Thanks!  =0)

    Thanks for posting itisme1!
I can imagine how frustrating it is dropping calls.  This is something different, however, I am confident we can get this resolved together.
When did the problems with the dropped calls start?  Did you notice the problem after downloading any particular applications?  Do you use any type of case, cover, glove or screen protectors on your device?  If so, have you tried the calls, using speakerphone, with the accessories off of the device?  Have you tried soft resetting your device by powering it off, removing the battery and reinserting?  If you have completed all of these steps, I would like you to try master resetting your device.  This will remove any corrupted files or faulty applications, and allow the device to start afresh.  Please ensure your device data is backed up prior to performing the reset.
Please let me know how that works out for you.

  • Another browser for Palm Centro??

I am not that happy with the Palm Centro (with Sprint) browser.  Blazer just does not seem that great.  I tried OperaMini but it is lacking an IBM plugin (which apparently is not available anymore).  Are there any other browsers that will work on Palm (Garnett OS)?  Thanks in advance for help.

Does the above link, once unzipped, include the Documentation folder for the product? If so, it should have a ReadMe and User Guide that explain the installation requirements.
    From the ReadMe:
To run the JVM on a device, HotSync all the ARM4T PRC files for your language.
    And from the User Guide:
Follow these steps to install a runtime environment on your device:
Note: These instructions are for Windows XP/2000 only.
    1. In the Start Menu, select Programs | Palm Desktop | Palm Quick Install
    to launch the install program.
    2. Select File | Add Files and browse to the directory where you installed
Java Technology for Palm OS Garnet. Then browse to \JVM\ARM4T.
    3. Select J9JavaVMMidp20.prc and j9pref.prc* and click Open to add the
files to the Quick Install window.
*The j9pref.prc, which is the developer preferences panel, is
intended for use by software developers only. It is not intended for end
users. Also, it is not localized; it is available only in English.
    4. Verify that your device is placed in the cradle correctly.
    5. HotSync the device. If you are prompted for a user, select the correct user.
In my case, I installed J9JavaVMMidp20 and JavaVMCheck_enUS (the English program - several languages are available).
    This seemed to work.
You will now have an "Other" listed in your Prefs screen on your Palm for the IBM Java Preferences. Click on this and ensure 'double buffering' is checked on and crank up both 'Set Memory Maximum' and 'Set Maximum Java Thread Stack Size'. Mine are set to 32 MB.
If you don't increase these settings from their original, Opera Mini will likely crash. A lot.
    Hope this helps!
